  • Cant connect to mysql using self signed SSL certificate

    - by carpii
After creating a self-signed SSL certificate, I have configured my remote mysqld to use them (and ssl is enabled) I ssh into my remote server, and try connecting to its own mysqld using ssl (mysql server is 5.5.25).. ~> mysql -u <user> -p --ssl=1 --ssl-cert=client.cert --ssl-key=client.key --ssl-ca=ca.cert Enter password: ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error: error:00000001:lib(0):func(0):reason(1) Ok, I remember reading theres some problem with connecting to the same server via SSL. So I download the client keys down to my local box, and test from there... ~> mysql -h <server> -u <user> -p --ssl=1 --ssl-cert=client.cert --ssl-key=client.key --ssl-ca=ca.cert Enter password: ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error Its unclear what this "SSL connection error" error refers to, but if I omit the -ssl-ca, then I am able to connect using SSL.. ~> mysql -h <server> -u <user> -p --ssl=1 --ssl-cert=client.cert --ssl-key=client.key Enter password: Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g. Your MySQL connection id is 37 Server version: 5.5.25 MySQL Community Server (GPL) However, I believe that this is only encrypting the connection, and not actually verifying the validity of the cert (meaning I would be potentially vulnerable to man-in-middle attack) The ssl certs are valid (albeit self signed), and do not have a passphrase on them So my question is, what am I doing wrong? How can I connect via SSL, using a self signed certificate? MySQL Server version is 5.5.25 and the server and clients are Centos 5 Thanks for any advice Edit: Note that in all cases, the command is being issued from the same directory where the ssl keys reside (hence no absolute path)

  • How to retrieve all MySQL settings?

    - by Max Kielland
I have a configured MySQL server (MySQL 5.1.47-community) that works perfect. I installed a second server (MySQL 5.5.15-community) to see if the new version of MySQL would work with my application before upgrading. When I run the application against the new server it behaves different. When I run it against the old server (MySQL 5.1.47-community) everything works perfect. I remember that I set some parameters through the MySQL prompt to accept larger result set and some other stuff, now I can't remember what I did. So my question is: Is there a way to transfer all the MySQL settings from one server to another? Thanks.

  • MySQL consuming all system memory on INSERT ... SELECT

    - by siete
The mysql daemon is getting killed because Linux is reaching out of memory: Oct 24 07:41:23 <hostname> kernel: [82297.673701] Out of memory: kill process 13816 (mysqld) score 1839626 or a child There is a link with some workaround on this. That only happen when executing a query INSERT ... SELECT with a very huge resulset. MySQLTuner script displays that maximum theorical memory is less than 8GB, but top and munim shows that is getting over all RAM and swap available: [--] Total buffers: 560.0M global + 72.2M per thread (100 max threads) [OK] Maximum possible memory usage: 7.6G (43% of installed RAM) I'm tried to tune some options with not results, there are the relevant ones: skip-locking max_connections = 100 key_buffer_size = 512M max_allowed_packet = 32M table_open_cache = 2000 open_files_limit = 3000 sort_buffer_size = 16M read_buffer_size = 16M read_rnd_buffer_size = 8M myisam_sort_buffer_size = 64M thread_cache_size = 4 query_cache_size = 16M query_cache_limit = 2M thread_concurrency = 4 join_buffer_size = 32M tmp_table_size = 32M max_heap_table_size = 32M query_cache_limit = 8M bulk_insert_buffer_size = 64M myisam_max_sort_file_size = 50GB myisam_mmap_size = 10GB And there is a system resume: OS: Linux Debian "Squeeze" 6.0.8 (upgraded yesterday) RAM: 18GB Swap: 18GB MySQL: 5.1.72-2 (official Debain release) At this moment, update or change OS or MySQL version is not possible, there is any option that can help and i missed? Sorry by my english, and thank you in advance! Edit: I'm only using MyISAM tables, and cannot change to InnoDB.

  • How to find out where or if MYSQL5 logs are stored on a machine WHM/Cpanel

    - by moi
I have a WHM/Cpanel re-seller hosting account on a virtual private server (Linux). I have root access to the machine via SSH I am trying to locate a file that contains information that will help me to determine which users have accessed what db and from which hosts. I would imagine this kind of data is stored in a log file somewhere. The MySQL page says: The general query log - Established client connections and statements received from clients See: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/server-logs.html It also says: By default, all log files are created in the mysqld data directory. So, I am am NOT asking where are the general query log logs stored, (cos I expect I will get answers saying "it depends") Please help me work out: "How can go about finding out where MySQL general query log logs are stored on a linux machine" Couple of things i've already tried: I looked at /etc/my.cnf it was a tiny file that only contained the following info: [mysqld] skip-bdb skip-innodb set-variable = max_connections=500 safe-show-database ~ ~ I have looked in: /var/lib/mysql/ But I could not see any log-like file names in that directory. Any clues on this would be most welcome.

  • nginx+mysql5 loadtesting configuration strangeness

    - by genseric
    i am trying to setup a new server running on debian6 and trying to make it work smooth under load. i ve used a wordpress site as a test object, and tried the configurations on http://blitz.io. when i increase the mysql max_connections from 50 to 200 lots of timeouts start to occur. but on 50 , no timeouts and pretty well response times. nginx configuration is fine , i tuned the config so i dont see errors. so i presume it's related to the other configuration options of my.cnf . i read some about options but still cant find what max_connections problem is all about. btw, the server has 16gb of ram and a fine i7 cpu. here is the current my.cnf [client] port = 3306 socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock [mysqld_safe] socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock nice = 0 [mysqld] wait_timeout=60 connect_timeout=10 interactive_timeout=120 user = mysql pid-file = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock port = 3306 basedir = /usr datadir = /var/lib/mysql tmpdir = /tmp language = /usr/share/mysql/english skip-external-locking bind-address = 127.0.0.1 key_buffer = 384M max_allowed_packet = 16M thread_stack = 192K thread_cache_size = 20 myisam-recover = BACKUP max_connections = 50 table_cache = 1024 thread_concurrency = 8 query_cache_limit = 2M query_cache_size = 128M expire_logs_days = 10 max_binlog_size = 100M [mysqldump] quick quote-names max_allowed_packet = 16M [mysql] #no-auto-rehash # faster start of mysql but no tab completition [isamchk] key_buffer = 16M thanks in advance. i asked this question on SO but it's closed as off topic so i believe this is a SF question.

  • Installing mysql on leopard: "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket"

    - by Neil
I migrated to a new machine and used migration assistant to copy across my files (which seemed to copy across the DBs) but I had to use macports to install Mysql (whereas last time I compiled from source via Dan Benjamin's guide). For some reason, mysql is intermittently throwing the following error; Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' (2) It does this no matter what I try, which has included setting the socket in /opt/local/etc/mysql5/my.cnf. Previously I've managed to temporarily fix this by restarting the machine, but right now it just doesn't want to know, despite grep mysql telling me I seem to have a pid; 0 46 1 0 0:00.01 ?? 0:00.01 /opt/local/bin/daemondo --label=mysql5 --start-cmd /opt/local/etc/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.mysql5/mysql5.wrapper start ; --stop-cmd /opt/local/etc/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.mysql5/mysql5.wrapper stop ; --restart-cmd /opt/local/etc/LaunchDaemons/org.macports.mysql5/mysql5.wrapper restart ; --pid=none 0 70 1 0 0:00.01 ?? 0:00.01 /bin/sh /opt/local/lib/mysql5/bin/mysqld_safe --datadir=/opt/local/var/db/mysql5 --pid-file=/opt/local/var/db/mysql5/localhost.pid 74 100 70 0 0:09.22 ?? 1:02.68 /opt/local/libexec/mysqld --basedir=/opt/local --datadir=/opt/local/var/db/mysql5 --user=mysql --pid-file=/opt/local/var/db/mysql5/localhost.pid --socket=/tmp/mysql.sock 501 66217 65266 0 0:00.00 ttys001 0:00.00 grep mysql How do I fix this? Are there any steps I can take next? I've been trying for a few weeks now and I've read round all relevant blog posts, so I'm completely out of ideas.

  • OS X: Storing MySQL data securely, on an encrypted FileVault image using a soft link

    - by GJ
I am trying to get a macports-installed MySQL to use a data directory stored inside my FileVault-protected home dir. I used sudo cp -a /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 ~/db/ (the -a to ensure file permissions remain intact) and then replaced the original mysql5 directory with a soft link: sudo ln -s ~/db/mysql5 /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 However, when I now try to start MySQL it fails. It follows the soft link at least to the extent that it modifies some files in the ~/db/mysql5 dir, notably the error log which gets appended to it this: 110108 15:33:08 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /opt/local/var/db/mysql5 110108 15:33:08 [Warning] '--skip-locking' is deprecated and will be removed in a future release. • Error 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when executing CHECK TABLE FOR UPGRADE

    - by Dean Richardson
I just upgraded Ubuntu from 11.10 to 12.04. My rails app now returns the (passenger) error "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) (Mysql2::Error)". I get a similar error when I try to access mysql at the command line on my Ubuntu server using mysql -u root -p. I have mysql-server 5.5 installed. I've checked and mysql is not running. When I try to restart it, it fails. Here are some key lines from the tail of /var/log/syslog after an attempted restart: dean@dgwjasonfried:/etc/mysql$ tail -f /var/log/syslog Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: /usr/bin/mysqlcheck Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Running 'mysqlcheck' with connection arguments: '--port=3306' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Running 'mysqlcheck' with connection arguments: '--port=3306' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: /usr/bin/mysqlcheck: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when executing 'CHECK TABLE ... I reviewed the related questions here and attempted some of the fixes offered but to no avail. Thanks! Dean Richardson Update: Thanks to quanta's suggestion, I looked at the /var/log/mysql/error.log file. I found error messages relating to pointers, fatal signals, and more stuff that I really couldn't make much sense of. I also found mysql man page references, however. One suggested that I try starting mysqld with the --innodb_force_recovery=# option, then attempt to dump (or drop) the offending/corrupted database or table. I worked through the escalating option levels one-by-one (innodb_force_recovery=1, innodb_force_recovery=2, etc.) This allowed me to successfully run mysql -u root -p from the command line and execute several commands. I was able to run queries on my production database, but any attempt to query, dump, or even drop my development database raised an error and led to me losing the connection to mysql. So I've made progress, but until I'm somehow able to drop or repair my development db I'm still unable to get my app to load. Any further advice or suggestions? Thanks! Dean Update: Right after running sudo mysqld --innodb_force_recover=1 from the command line, the error.log contains this: Right after retrying sudo mysqld --innodb_force_recover=1, The error.log file shows this: 130308 4:55:39 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: The InnoDB memory heap is disabled 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Mutexes and rw_locks use GCC atomic builtins 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Compressed tables use zlib 1.2.3.4 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Initializing buffer pool, size = 128.0M 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Completed initialization of buffer pool 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: highest supported file format is Barracuda. • mysql master-master setup as a way to simply master-slave promotion

    - by Chris Go
I'm trying to see if the following plan is viable. Goal here is to be able to do HA (uptime) and not necessarily for load -- writes are fine on one MySQL 5.5 server (with innodb) but not really possible when the database is down. Currently, I have a master-slave replication setup which works fine except it doesn't have automatic promotion (obviously). what I am planning on doing is setup master-master replication to possibly do this "automatic promotion" using Amazon Route 53 DNS Failover (Health checks). What I am trying to avoid is to NOT have to do the auto-increment trick because the "business folks" got used to the auto-incrementing PK as consecutive numbers (yeah, I know this is bad but data is from 2004). So, setup the master-master replication WITHOUT the auto-increment collision prevention bit. The primary master is db1.domain.com and secondary master is db2.domain.com In Amazon Route 53, setup DNS Failover record for db.domain.com - primary failover is db1.domain.com - with a TCP healthcheck on IP address port 3306 - secondary failover is db2.domain.com - with a TCP healthcheck on IP address port 3306 Most of the time (99%), unless tcp://db1.domain.com:3306 is dead, db1.domain.com will be served up on DNS hits to db.domain.com. In fact, hopefully this is 100%. The possible downsides of this is the loss of a primary key (collision) and I think I am OK with losing one order. We are a low data volume B2B business and can just call our client up if this occurs (like an order disappearing). Does this sound like a good plan? Then I will also run another slave replication on db1.domain.com as "master" to a slave-db1.domain.com -- not sure why, maybe for heavy SELECTs?

  • Purpose of "computer" section in MySQL Cluster 7.2?

    - by dpk
According to the cluster documentation, you can either define data nodes with: [ndbd] NodeId=n HostName=1.2.3.4 or [ndbd] NodeId=n ExecuteOnComputer=m [computer] Id=m HostName=1.2.3.4 I don't see a substantial difference between the two. The documentation has this to say: The [computer] section has no real significance other than serving as a way to avoid the need of defining host names for each node in the system. I'm stumped. If I have to define a hostname, what benefit is there to defining it in [computer] instead of [ndbd]?

  • mysql 5.0.23 vs 5.5 performance benefits and upgrade issues ?

    - by WarDoGG
I have been told that mysql 5.5 has a significant performanance boost compared to 5.0 Our server handles alot of data (around 30 million records processed per 5-10 seconds) and requires every drop of performance boost we can give. Will it be beneficial if we upgrade from 5.0.23 to mysql 5.5 ? Also, we have lots of database indexes setup on the tables and i've been told that sometimes the indexes become corrupt after a version upgrade and they have to be rebuilt. Is this true ?

  • Replicate between mysql 5.0.xx community and enterprise edition over ssh

    - by Arlukin
I'm trying to setup a mysql replication over an SSH tunnel. The odd thing about this setup is that I have one master with mysql 5.0.60sp1-enterprise-gpl-log and one slave with mysql 5.0.67-community-log. Could it be so that it's not possible to replicate between community and enterprise edition? As you can see in my log below, it's possible to login on the remote server with the mysql client. But the replication get "Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (13)" Is it any log file I have forgotten to look in, to get more info? • how to enable remote access to a MySQL server on an AZURE virtual machine

    - by Rees
I have an AZURE virtual machine with a MySQL server installed on it running ubuntu 13.04. I am trying to remote connect to the MySQL server however get the simple error "Can't connect to MySQL server on {IP}" I have already done the follow: * commented out the bind-address within the /etc/mysql/my.cnf * commented out skip-external-locking within the same my.cnf * "ufw allow mysql" * "iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT" * setup an AZURE endpoint for mysql * "sudo netstat -lpn | grep 3306" does indeed show mysql LISTENING * "GRANT ALL ON *.* TO remote@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; * "GRANT ALL ON *.* TO remote@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; * "/etc/init.d/mysql restart" * I can connect via SSH tunneling, but not without it * I have spun up an identical ubuntu 13.04 server on rackspace and SUCCESSFULLY connected using the same procedures outlined here. NONE of the above works on my azure server however. I thought the creation of an endpoint would work, but no luck. Any help please? Is there something I'm missing entirely?

  • New Windows Server 2008 R2 WIMP running slower than Windows Server 2003

    - by starshine531
We recently upgraded a WIMP server from Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) to Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit). The new server has significantly better hardware than the old server, yet many processes take much longer than the old box. We have a rather complex web application process that normally takes about 7 seconds on the old box, but on the new one it takes 11-12 seconds. That's down from 15.5 seconds it took before I disabled IPV6. This process involves some queries (some of them involve transactions with maybe 3 queries between the start and commit) and creating and emailing some pdfs. Windows updates are current with a more or less fresh machine. This happens consistently even when we have almost no traffic on the site and memory and cpu aren't being hard pressed at all. The only differences between the servers other than the OS and hardware: 1) When available, we used 64 bit versions of programs 2) The new server uses MySQL 5.5 rather than MySQL 5.1 (I did run the mysql_upgrade program and we use InnoDB for the engine) 3) The new server uses PHP Version 5.3.18 rather than PHP Version 5.3.1 4) With the new OS came IIS7 rather than IIS6 of course. What could be causing better hardware to run so much slower? Let me know if you need more details. Thank you.

  • How to proceed setting up a secondary mysql linux slave?

    - by Algorist
I have a mysql database master and slave in production. I want to setup additional mysql slave. There is around 15 Terabyte of data in the database and there are MYISAM and InnoDB tables in the database. I am thinking of below options: Shutdown master database and copy the mysql data folder to secondary slave. Can Innodb tables be copied like this? Run flush table with read lock, scp the file to new slave and unlock the table and this is possible for myisam tables, can I do the same for innodb tables too? Thanks for looking at the question.

  • CSV engine on MySQL server

    - by Jeff
I don't think that this is a programming question so I am going to ask it here - Reading the book high performance mysql, I read about the CSV engine. The paragraph says: The CSV engine can treat comma-separated values (CSV) files as table, but it does not support indexes on them. This engine lets you copy files in and out of the database while the server is running. If you export a CSV file from a spreadsheet and save it in the MySQL server's data directory, the server can read it immediately. Similary, if you write data to a CSV table, an external program can read it right away. CSV tables are especially useful as a data interchange format and for certain kinds of logging. What I get from this paragraph is that I can copy a .CSV file into the data directory of database, and it should show as a table that is able to be read from. However, whenever I copy a test .csv file into the directory, it does not appear as a table. I can't access it. I am using MySQL 5.5 also Does anyone know why this is not working, or what I am doing wrong? Thanks
