  • Play Framework: Error getting sequence nextval using H2 in-memory database

    - by alexhanschke
As the title suggests, I get an error running Play 2.0.1 Tests using a FakeApplication w/ H2 in memory. I set up a basic unit test: public class ModelTest { @Test public void checkThatIndustriesExist() { running(fakeApplication(inMemoryDatabase()), new Runnable() { public void run() { Industry industry = new Industry(); industry.name = "Some name"; industry.shortname = "some-name"; industry.save(); assertThat(Industry.find.all()).hasSize(1); } }); } Which yields the following exception: [info] test.ModelTest [error] Test test.ModelTest.checkThatIndustriesExist failed: Error getting sequence nextval [error] at com.avaje.ebean.config.dbplatform.SequenceIdGenerator.getMoreIds(SequenceIdGenerator.java:213) [error] at com.avaje.ebean.config.dbplatform.SequenceIdGenerator.loadMoreIds(SequenceIdGenerator.java:163) [error] at com.avaje.ebean.config.dbplatform.SequenceIdGenerator.nextId(SequenceIdGenerator.java:118) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.deploy.BeanDescriptor.nextId(BeanDescriptor.java:1218) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.persist.DefaultPersister.setIdGenValue(DefaultPersister.java:1304) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.persist.DefaultPersister.insert(DefaultPersister.java:403) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.persist.DefaultPersister.saveEnhanced(DefaultPersister.java:345) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.persist.DefaultPersister.saveRecurse(DefaultPersister.java:315) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.persist.DefaultPersister.save(DefaultPersister.java:282) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.core.DefaultServer.save(DefaultServer.java:1577) [error] at com.avaje.ebeaninternal.server.core.DefaultServer.save(DefaultServer.java:1567) [error] at com.avaje.ebean.Ebean.save(Ebean.java:538) [error] at play.db.ebean.Model.save(Model.java:76) [error] at test.ModelTest$1.run(ModelTest.java:24) [error] at play.test.Helpers.running(Helpers.java:277) [error] at test.ModelTest.checkThatIndustriesExist(ModelTest.java:21) [error] ... • How do I get the NextVal from an oracle Sequence thru NHibernate

    - by trainer
    I am working on c# .net 4.0 and using NHibernate to talk with an Oracle DB. You would think something as simple as this is already addressed somewhere but sadly its not. I need the NextVal from an Oracle sequence. I do not need to insert it a database as part of an Id or Primary key. I just need to use the next val on the c# side. Can somebody help me out with xml mapping and C# file(or a link) to achieve this. Thanks. Something like int NextValueOfSequence = GetNextValueofSequence(); public int GetNextValueOfSequence() { // Access NHibernate to return the next value of the sequence. }

  • At most how many customized P3 attributes could be added into Agile?

    - by Jie Chen
I have one customer/Oracle Partner Consultant asking me such question: how many customized attributes can be allowed to add to Agile's subclass Page Three? I never did research against this because Agile User Guide never says this and theoretically Agile supports unlimited amount of customized attributes, unless the browser itself cannot handle them in allocated memory. However my customers says when to add almost 1000 attributes, the browser (Web Client) will not show any Page Three attributes, including all the out-of-box attributes. Let's see why. Analysis It is horrible to add 1000 attributes manually. Let's do it by a batch SQL like below to add them to Item's subclass Page Three tab. Do not execute below SQL because it will not take effect due to your different node id. CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE createP3Text(v_name IN VARCHAR2) IS v_nid NUMBER; v_pid NUMBER; BEGIN select SEQNODETABLE.nextval into v_nid from dual; Insert Into nodeTable ( id,parentID,description, objType, inherit, helpID,version, name ) values ( v_nid,2473003, v_name ,1,0,0,0, v_name); Now go to JavaClient and confirm if we have them or not. Theoretically we are able to open such item object and see all these 1000 attributes and their values, but we get below error. We have no error tips in server log. But never mind we have the Java Console for JavaClient. If to open the same item in JavaClient we get a clear error and detailed trace in Java Console. Check here http://ora-01795.ora-code.com If you need Oracle Agile's final solution, please contact Oracle Agile Support. Performance Below two screenshot are jvm heap usage from before-SQL and after-SQL. We can see there is no big memory gap between two cases. So definitely there is no performance impact to Agile Application Server unless you have more than 1000 attributes for EACH of your dozens of  subclasses. And for client, 1000 attributes should not impact the browser's performance because in HTML we only use dt and dd for each attribute's pair: label and value. It is quite lightweight.

  • Selecting a sequence NEXTVAL for multiple rows

    - by stringpoet
I am building a SQL Server job to pull data from SQL Server into an Oracle database through a linked server. The table I need to populate has a sequence for the name ID, which is my primary key. I'm having trouble figuring out a way to do this simply, without some lengthy code. Here's what I have so far for the SELECT portion (some actual names obfuscated): SELECT (SELECT NEXTVAL FROM OPENQUERY(MYSERVER, 'SELECT ORCL.NAME_SEQNO.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL')), psn.BirthDate, psn.FirstName, psn.MiddleName, psn.LastName, c.REGION_CODE FROM Person psn LEFT JOIN MYSERVER..ORCL.COUNTRY c ON c.COUNTRY_CODE = psn.Country MYSERVER is the linked Oracle server, ORCL is obviously the schema. Person is a local table on the SQL Server database where the query is being executed. When I run this query, I get the same exact value for all records for the NEXTVAL. What I need is for it to generate a new value for each returned record. I found this similar question, with its answers, but am unsure how to apply it to my case (if even possible): Query several NEXTVAL from sequence in one satement

  • Calling next value of a sequence in jpa

    - by Javi
Hello, I have a class mapped as an Entity to persist it in a database. I have an id field as the primary key so every time the object is persisted the value of the id is retrieved from the sequence "myClass_pk_seq", a code like the following one. @Entity @Table(name="myObjects") public class MyClass { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="sequence") @SequenceGenerator(name="sequence", sequenceName="myClass_pk_seq", allocationSize=1) @Column(name="myClassId") private Integer id; ... } I need to get the next value of the sequence myClass_pk_seq to reserve that value (get the next value of the sequence and the current value is incremented), but without saving the object. How can I call the next value of a sequence when it's defined like this? Thanks.

  • Problem running oracle script from command line using sqlplus

    - by Charlie
    I'm having a problem trying to run my sql script into oracle using sqlplus. The script just populates some dummy data: DECLARE role1Id NUMBER; user1Id NUMBER; role2Id NUMBER; user2Id NUMBER; role3Id NUMBER; user3Id NUMBER; perm1Id NUMBER; perm2Id NUMBER; perm3Id NUMBER; perm4Id NUMBER; perm5Id NUMBER; BEGIN INSERT INTO PB_USER(USER_ID,USER_NAME, USER_EMAIL, USER_ACTIVEYN) VALUES(PB_USER_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'RoleDataManagerTests_Username', '[email protected]',' '); INSERT INTO ROLES(ROLE_ID, ROLE_NAME) VALUES(PB_ROLE_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'Test role 1'); INSERT INTO ROLES(ROLE_ID, ROLE_NAME) VALUES(PB_ROLE_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'Test role 2'); INSERT INTO ROLES(ROLE_ID, ROLE_NAME) VALUES(PB_ROLE_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'Test role 3'); SELECT ROLE_ID INTO role1Id FROM ROLES WHERE ROLE_NAME = 'Test role 1'; SELECT USER_ID INTO user1Id FROM PB_USER WHERE USER_NAME = 'RoleDataManagerTests_Username'; INSERT INTO USERS_ROLES(USER_ID, ROLE_ID) VALUES(user1Id, role1Id); SELECT ROLE_ID INTO role2Id FROM ROLES WHERE ROLE_NAME = 'Test role 2'; SELECT USER_ID INTO user2Id FROM PB_USER WHERE USER_NAME = 'RoleDataManagerTests_Username'; INSERT INTO USERS_ROLES(USER_ID, ROLE_ID) VALUES(user2Id, role2Id); SELECT ROLE_ID INTO role3Id FROM ROLES WHERE ROLE_NAME = 'Test role 3'; SELECT USER_ID INTO user3Id FROM PB_USER WHERE USER_NAME = 'RoleDataManagerTests_Username'; INSERT INTO USERS_ROLES(USER_ID, ROLE_ID) VALUES(user3Id, role3Id); INSERT INTO PERMISSIONS(PERMISSION_ID, KEY, DESCRIPTION) VALUES (PB_PERMISSION_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'perm1', 'permission 1'); INSERT INTO PERMISSIONS(PERMISSION_ID, KEY, DESCRIPTION) VALUES (PB_PERMISSION_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'perm2', 'permission 2'); INSERT INTO PERMISSIONS(PERMISSION_ID, KEY, DESCRIPTION) VALUES (PB_PERMISSION_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'perm3', 'permission 3'); INSERT INTO PERMISSIONS(PERMISSION_ID, KEY, DESCRIPTION) VALUES (PB_PERMISSION_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'perm4', 'permission 4'); INSERT INTO PERMISSIONS(PERMISSION_ID, KEY, DESCRIPTION) VALUES (PB_PERMISSION_ID_SEQ.nextval, 'perm5', 'permission 5'); SELECT PERMISSION_ID INTO perm1Id FROM PERMISSIONS WHERE KEY = 'perm1'; SELECT PERMISSION_ID INTO perm2Id FROM PERMISSIONS WHERE KEY = 'perm2'; SELECT PERMISSION_ID INTO perm3Id FROM PERMISSIONS WHERE KEY = 'perm3'; SELECT PERMISSION_ID INTO perm4Id FROM PERMISSIONS WHERE KEY = 'perm4'; SELECT PERMISSION_ID INTO perm5Id FROM PERMISSIONS WHERE KEY = 'perm5'; INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role1Id, perm1Id); INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role1Id, perm2Id); INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role1Id, perm3Id); INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role2Id, perm3Id); INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role3Id, perm4Id); INSERT INTO ROLES_PERMISSIONS(ROLE_ID, PERMISSION_ID) VALUES(role3Id, perm5Id); END; / My script works fine when I run it using Oracle SQL Developer but when I use the sqlplus command line tool this is what's outputted and then it just hangs: SQL*Plus: Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production on Tue May 11 09:49:34 2010 Copyright (c) 1982, 2008, Oracle. • Oracle Sequences

    - by jkrebsbach
Reminder to myself - SQL Server has nice index columns directly tied to their tables. Oracle has sequences that are islands to themselves. select seq_name.currval from dual; select seq_name.nextval from dual; currval - return current number at top of sequence nextval - increment sequence by 1, return new number   therefore - to create functionality in oracle similar to an index column - OPTION A) - Create insert trigger: CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER dept_bir BEFORE INSERT ON departments FOR EACH ROW WHEN (new.id IS NULL) BEGIN SELECT dept_seq.NEXTVAL INTO :new.id FROM dual; END; This will handle creating a unique identity, but will not necessarily inform process flow of identity without additional logic. OPTION B) - Select indentity into temp variable, insert whole item into tab **** When attemptint to query currval, the below error was being thrown - SELECT seq_name.currval from dual; ERROR : TABLE OR VIEW DOES NOT EXIST *** Although Oracle sys tables may have access to the sequences, that isn't to say the Oracle user may have access to those sequences - verify permissions when the system can't see object that are being reported in the object explorer.

  • rake test not copying development postgres db with sequences

    - by Robert Crida
I am trying to develop a rails application on postgresql using a sequence to increment a field instead of a default ruby approach based on validates_uniqueness_of. This has proved challenging for a number of reasons: 1. This is a migration of an existing table, not a new table or column 2. Using parameter :default = "nextval('seq')" didn't work because it tries to set it in parenthesis 3. Eventually got migration working in 2 steps: change_column :work_commencement_orders, :wco_number_suffix, :integer, :null => false#, :options => "set default nextval('wco_number_suffix_seq')" execute %{ ALTER TABLE work_commencement_orders ALTER COLUMN wco_number_suffix SET DEFAULT nextval('wco_number_suffix_seq'); } Now this would appear to have done the correct thing in the development database and the schema looks like: wco_number_suffix | integer | not null default nextval('wco_number_suffix_seq'::regclass) However, the tests are failing with PGError: ERROR: null value in column "wco_number_suffix" violates not-null constraint : INSERT INTO "work_commencement_orders" ("expense_account_id", "created_at", "process_id", "vo2_issued_on", "wco_template", "updated_at", "notes", "process_type", "vo_number", "vo_issued_on", "vo2_number", "wco_type_id", "created_by", "contractor_id", "old_wco_type", "master_wco_number", "deadline", "updated_by", "detail", "elective_id", "authorization_batch_id", "delivery_lat", "delivery_long", "operational", "state", "issued_on", "delivery_detail") VALUES(226, '2010-05-31 07:02:16.764215', 728, NULL, E'Default', '2010-05-31 07:02:16.764215', NULL, E'Procurement::Process', NULL, NULL, NULL, 226, NULL, 276, NULL, E'MWCO-213', '2010-06-14 07:02:16.756952', NULL, E'Name 4597', 220, NULL, NULL, NULL, 'f', E'pending', NULL, E'728 Test Road; Test Town; 1234; Test Land') RETURNING "id" The explanation can be found when you inspect the schema of the test database: wco_number_suffix | integer | not null So what happened to the default? I tried adding task: template: smmt_ops_development to the database.yml file which has the effect of issuing create database smmt_ops_test template = "smmt_ops_development" encoding = 'utf8' I have verified that if I issue this then it does in fact copy the default nextval. So clearly rails is doing something after that to suppress it again. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Thanks Robert

  • db:migrate creates sequences but doesn't alter table?

    - by RewbieNewbie
Hello, I have a migration that creates a postres sequence for auto incrementing a primary identifier, and then executes a statement for altering the column and specifying the default value: execute 'CREATE SEQUENCE "ServiceAvailability_ID_seq";' execute <<-SQL ALTER TABLE "ServiceAvailability" ALTER COLUMN "ID" set DEFAULT NEXTVAL('ServiceAvailability_ID_seq'); SQL If I run db:migrate everything seems to work, in that no errors are returned, however, if I run the rails application I get: Mnull value in column "ID" violates not-null constraint I have discovered by executing the sql statement in the migration manually, that this error is because the alter statement isn't working, or isn't being executed. If I manually execute the following statement: CREATE SEQUENCE "ServiceAvailability_ID_seq; I get: error : ERROR: relation "serviceavailability_id_seq" already exists Which means the migration successfully created the sequence! However, if I manually run: ALTER TABLE "ServiceProvider" ALTER COLUMN "ID" set DEFAULT NEXTVAL('ServiceProvider_ID_seq'); SQL It runs successfully and creates the default NEXTVAL. So the question is, why is the migration file creating the sequence with the first execute statement, but not altering the table in the second execute? (Remembering, no errors are output on running db:migrate) Thank you and apologies for tl:dr

  • Check if row already exists, if so tell the referenced table the id

    - by flhe
Let's assume I have a table magazine: CREATE TABLE magazine ( magazine_id integer NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval(('public.magazine_magazine_id_seq'::text)::regclass), longname character varying(1000), shortname character varying(200), issn character varying(9), CONSTRAINT pk_magazine PRIMARY KEY (magazine_id) ); And another table issue: CREATE TABLE issue ( issue_id integer NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval(('public.issue_issue_id_seq'::text)::regclass), number integer, year integer, volume integer, fk_magazine_id integer, CONSTRAINT pk_issue PRIMARY KEY (issue_id), CONSTRAINT fk_magazine_id FOREIGN KEY (fk_magazine_id) REFERENCES magazine (magazine_id) MATCH SIMPLE ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION ); Current INSERTS: INSERT INTO magazine (longname, shotname, issn) VALUES ('a long name','ee','1111-2222'); INSERT INTO issue (fk_magazine_id,number,year,volume) VALUES (currval('magazine_magazine_id_seq'),'8','1982','6'); Now a row should only be inserted into 'magazine', if it does not already exist. However if it exists, the table 'issue' needs to get the 'magazine_id' of the row that already exists in order to establish the reference. How can i do this? Thx in advance!

  • Postgesql select from 2 tables. Joins?

    - by Daniel
    I have 2 tables that look like this: Table "public.phone_lists" Column | Type | Modifiers ----------+-------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------------- id | integer | not null default nextval(('"phone_lists_id_seq"'::text)::regclass) list_id | integer | not null sequence | integer | not null phone | character varying | name | character varying | and Table "public.email_lists" Column | Type | Modifiers ---------+-------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------------- id | integer | not null default nextval(('"email_lists_id_seq"'::text)::regclass) list_id | integer | not null email | character varying | I'm trying to get the list_id, phone, and emails out of the tables in one table. I'm looking for an output like: list_id | phone | email ---------+-------------+-------------------------------- 0 | | [email protected] 0 | | [email protected] 0 | | [email protected] 0 | | [email protected] 0 | | [email protected] 1 | 15555555555 | 1 | 15555551806 | 1 | 15555555508 | 1 | 15055555506 | 1 | 15055555558 | 1 | | [email protected] 1 | | [email protected] I've come up with select pl.list_id, pl.phone, el.email from phone_lists as pl left join email_lists as el using (list_id); but thats not quite right. Any suggestions?

  • How to insert an n:m-relationship with technical primary keys generated by a sequence?

    - by bitschnau
Let's say I have two tables with several fields and in every table there is a primary key which is a technical id generated by a database sequence: table1 table2 ------------- ------------- field11 <pk> field21 <pk> field12 field22 field11 and field21 are generated by sequences. Also there is a n:m-relationship between table1 und table2, designed in table3: table3 ------------- field11 <fk> field21 <fk> The ids in table1 und table2 are generated during the insert statement: INSERT INTO table1 VALUES (table1_seq1.NEXTVAL, ... INSERT INTO table2 VALUES (table2_seq1.NEXTVAL, ... Therefore I don't know the primary key of the added row in the data-access-layer of my program, because the generation of the pk happens completely in the database. What's the best practice to update table3 now? How can I gain access to the primary key of the rows I just inserted?

  • [EF + Oracle] Inserting Data (Sequences) (2/2)

    - by JTorrecilla
Prologue In the previous chapter we have see how to create DB records with EF, now we are going to Some Questions about Oracle.   ORACLE One characteristic from SQL Server that differs from Oracle is “Identity”. To all that has not worked with SQL Server, this property, that applies to Integer Columns, lets indicate that there is auto increment columns, by that way it will be filled automatically, without writing it on the insert statement. In EF with SQL Server, the properties whose match with Identity columns, will be filled after invoking SaveChanges method. In Oracle DB, there is no Identity Property, but there is something similar. Sequences Sequences are DB objects, that allow to create auto increment, but there are not related directly to a Table. The syntax is as follows: name, min value, max value and begin value. 1: CREATE SEQUENCE nombre_secuencia 2: INCREMENT BY numero_incremento 3: START WITH numero_por_el_que_empezara 4: MAXVALUE valor_maximo | NOMAXVALUE 5: MINVALUE valor_minimo | NOMINVALUE 6: CYCLE | NOCYCLE 7: ORDER | NOORDER 8:    How to get sequence value? To obtain the next val from the sequence: 1: SELECT nb_secuencia.Nextval 2: From Dual Due to there is no direct way to indicate that a column is related to a sequence, there is several ways to imitate the behavior: Use a Trigger (DB), Use Stored Procedures or Functions(…) or my particularly option. EF model, only, imports Table Objects, Stored Procedures or Functions, but not sequences. By that, I decide to create my own extension Method to invoke Next Val from a sequence: 1: public static class EFSequence 2: { 3: public static int GetNextValue(this ObjectContext contexto, string SequenceName) 4: { 5: string Connection = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["JTorrecillaEntities2"].ConnectionString; 6: Connection=Connection.Substring(Connection.IndexOf(@"connection string=")+19); 7: Connection = Connection.Remove(Connection.Length - 1, 1); 8: using (IDbConnection con = new Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection(Connection)) 9: { 10: using (IDbCommand cmd = con.CreateCommand()) 11: { 12: con.Open(); 13: cmd.CommandText = String.Format("Select {0}.nextval from DUAL", SequenceName); 14: return Convert.ToInt32(cmd.ExecuteScalar()); 15: } 16: } 17:  18: } 19: } This Object Context’s extension method are going to invoke a query with the Sequence indicated by parameter. It takes the connection strings from the App settings, removing the meta data, that was created by VS when generated the EF model. And then, returns the next value from the Sequence. The next value of a Sequence is unique, by that, when some concurrent users are going to create records in the DB using the sequence will not get duplicates. This is my own implementation, I know that it could be several ways to do and better ways. If I find any other way, I promise to post it. To use the example is needed to add a reference to the Oracle (ODP.NET) dll.

  • Oracle Data Provider and casting

    - by mrjoltcola
I use Oracle's specific data provider, not the Microsoft provider that is being discontinued. The thing I've found about ODP.NET is how picky it is with data types. Where JDBC and other ADO providers just convert and make things work, ODP.NET will throw an invalid cast exception unless you get it exactly right. Consider this code: String strSQL = "SELECT DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL"; OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(strSQL, conn); reader = cmd.ExecuteReader(); if (reader != null && reader.Read()) { Int64 id = reader.GetInt64(0); return id; } Due to ODP.NET's pickiness on conversion, this doesn't work. My usual options are: 1) Retrieve into a Decimal and return it with a cast to an Int64 (I don't like this because Decimal is just overkill, and at least once I remember reading it was deprecated...) Decimal id = reader.GetDecimal(0); return (Int64)id; 2) Or cast in the SQL statement to make sure it fits into Int64, like NUMBER(18) String strSQL = "SELECT CAST(DOCUMENT_SEQ.NEXTVAL AS NUMBER(18)) FROM DUAL"; I do (2), because I feel its just not clean pulling a number into a .NET Decimal when my domain types are Int32 or Int64. Other providers I've used are nice (smart) enough to do the conversion on the fly. Any suggestions from the ODP.NET gurus?

  • PostgreSQL - Error: SQL state: XX000.

    - by rob
I have a table in Postgres that looks like this: CREATE TABLE "Population" ( "Id" bigint NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval('"population_Id_seq"'::regclass), "Name" character varying(255) NOT NULL, "Description" character varying(1024), "IsVisible" boolean NOT NULL CONSTRAINT "pk_Population" PRIMARY KEY ("Id") ) WITH ( OIDS=FALSE ); And a select function that looks like this: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION "Population_SelectAll"() RETURNS SETOF "Population" AS $BODY$select "Id", "Name", "Description", "IsVisible" from "Population"; $BODY$ LANGUAGE 'sql' STABLE COST 100 Calling the select function returns all the rows in the table as expected. I have a need to add a couple of columns to the table (both of which are foreign keys to other tables in the database). This gives me a new table def as follows: CREATE TABLE "Population" ( "Id" bigint NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval('"population_Id_seq"'::regclass), "Name" character varying(255) NOT NULL, "Description" character varying(1024), "IsVisible" boolean NOT NULL, "DefaultSpeciesId" bigint NOT NULL, "DefaultEcotypeId" bigint NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT "pk_Population" PRIMARY KEY ("Id"), CONSTRAINT "fk_Population_DefaultEcotypeId" FOREIGN KEY ("DefaultEcotypeId") REFERENCES "Ecotype" ("Id") MATCH SIMPLE ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION, CONSTRAINT "fk_Population_DefaultSpeciesId" FOREIGN KEY ("DefaultSpeciesId") REFERENCES "Species" ("Id") MATCH SIMPLE ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION ) WITH ( OIDS=FALSE ); and function: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION "Population_SelectAll"() RETURNS SETOF "Population" AS $BODY$select "Id", "Name", "Description", "IsVisible", "DefaultSpeciesId", "DefaultEcotypeId" from "Population"; $BODY$ LANGUAGE 'sql' STABLE COST 100 ROWS 1000; Calling the function after these changes results in the following error message: ERROR: could not find attribute 11 in subquery targetlist SQL state: XX000 What is causing this error and how do I fix it? I have tried to drop and recreate the columns and function - but the same error occurs. Platform is PostgreSQL 8.4 running on Windows Server. Thanks.

  • Postgresql: keep 2 sequences synchronized

    - by Giovanni Di Milia
Is there a way to keep 2 sequences synchronized in Postgres? I mean if I have: table_A_id_seq = 1 table_B_id_seq = 1 if I execute SELECT nextval('table_A_id_seq'::regclass) I want that table_B_id_seq takes the same value of table_A_id_seq and obviously it must be the same on the other side. I need 2 different sequences because I have to hack some constraints I have in Django (and that I cannot solve there).

  • postgresql drop table

    - by Russell
I have two tables (tbl and tbl_new) that both use the same sequence (tbl_id_seq). I'd like to drop one of those tables. On tbl, I've removed the modifier "not null default nextval('tbl_id_seq'::regclass)" but that modifier remains on tbl_new. I'm getting the following error: ERROR: cannot drop table tbl because other objects depend on it DETAIL: default for table tbl_new column id depends on sequence tbl_id_seq After reviewing http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.1/static/sql-droptable.html It looks like there is only CASCADE and RESTRICT as options.

  • Loading from pickled data causes database error with new saves

    - by hibbie
In order to save time moving data I pickled some models and dumped them to file. I then reloaded them into another database using the same exact model. The save worked fine and the objects kept their old id which is what I wanted. However, when saving new objects I run into nextval errors. Not being very adept with postgres, I'm not sure how to fix this so I can keep old records with their existing ID while being able to continue adding new data. Thanks, Thomas

  • Behaviour of insertion trigger when defining autoincrement in Oracle

    - by Genba
I have been looking for a way to define an autoincrement data type in Oracle and have found these questions on Stack Overflow: Autoincrement in Oracle Autoincrement Primary key in Oracle database The way to use autoincrement types consists in defining a sequence and a trigger to make insertion transparent, where the insertion trigger looks so: create trigger mytable_trg before insert on mytable for each row when (new.id is null) begin select myseq.nextval into :new.id from dual; end; I have some doubts about the behaviour of this trigger: What does this trigger do when the supplied value of "id" is different from NULL? What does the colon before "new" mean? I want the trigger to insert the new row with the next value of the sequence as ID whatever the supplied value of "new.id" is. I imagine that the WHEN statement makes the trigger to only insert the new row if the supplied ID is NULL (and it will not insert, or will fail, otherwise). Could I just remove the WHEN statement in order for the trigger to always insert using the next value of the sequence?

  • Using MyGeneration, doodads, and Oracle XE, is it possible to implement an "auto number primary key"

    - by Michael Rosario
Hello world. Using MyGeneration, doodads, and Oracle XE, is it possible to implement an "auto number primary key" scheme? Problem facts: I am using Oracle XE. I have implemented the following table and trigger: CREATE TABLE "USERS" ( "ID" NUMBER(38,0), "USER_NAME" VARCHAR2(50), "PASSWORD" VARCHAR2(50), "EMAIL" VARCHAR2(100), CONSTRAINT "USERS_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("ID") ENABLE ) / CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "BI_USERS" before insert on "USERS" for each row begin select "USERS_SEQ".nextval into :NEW.ID from dual; end; / ALTER TRIGGER "BI_USERS" ENABLE / MyGeneration / Doodads created the following stored proc... CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE "XXX"."PI_USERS" ( p_ID IN USERS.ID%type, p_USER_NAME IN USERS.USER_NAME%type, p_PASSWORD IN USERS.PASSWORD%type, p_EMAIL IN USERS.EMAIL%type ) IS BEGIN INSERT INTO USERS ( ID, USER_NAME, PASSWORD, EMAIL ) VALUES ( p_ID, p_USER_NAME, p_PASSWORD, p_EMAIL ); END PI_USERS; The sequence and trigger combination is working fine. The BusinessEntity class in C# does not receive the new ID. Any recommended ways to allow the calling code receive the new record ID?

  • Using a PreparedStatement to persist an array of Java Enums to an array of Postgres Enums

I have a Java Enum: public enum Equipment { Hood, Blinkers, ToungTie, CheekPieces, Visor, EyeShield, None;} and a corresponding Postgres enum: CREATE TYPE equipment AS ENUM ('Hood', 'Blinkers', 'ToungTie', 'CheekPieces', 'Visor', 'EyeShield', 'None'); Within my database I have a table which has a column containing an array of "equipment" items: CREATE TABLE "Entry" ( id bigint NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval('seq'::regclass), "date" character(10) NOT NULL, equipment equipment[] ); And finally when I am running my application I have an array of the "Equipment" enums which I want to persist to the database using a Prepared Statement, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer("insert into \"Entry\" "); sb.append("( \"date\", \"equipment \" )"); sb.append(" values ( ?, ? )"); PreparedStatement ps = db.prepareStatement(sb.toString()); ps.setString("2010-10-10"); ps.set???????????

  • How to set up an insert to a grails created file with next sequence number?

    - by Jack BeNimble
I'm using a JMS queue to read from and insert data into a postgres table created by grails. The problem is obtaining the next sequence value. I thought I had found the solution with the following statement (by putting "DEFAULT" where the ID should go), but it's no longer working. I must have changed something, because I needed to recreate the table. What's the best way to get around this problem? ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (DEFAULT, 0, ?)"); UPDATE: In response to the suggested solution, I did the following: Added this to the the domain: class XmlTest { String xmlText static constraints = { id generator:'sequence', params:[name:'xmltest_sequence'] } } And changed the insert statement to the following: ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (nextval('xmltest_sequence'), 0, ?)"); However, when I run the statement, I get the following error: [java] 1 org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: relation "xmltest_sequence" does not exist Any thoughts?
