  • How to make Microsoft Keyboard special keys run osascript commands on OSX?

    - by t-a-w
I'm trying to make (1) special key open new terminal window. I bound it to file /Users/taw/bin/new_term, which contains: #!/bin/sh exec osascript -e 'tell application "Terminal" to do script "cd ."' This does the trick, except it also opens a Terminal window with this (even though Terminal.app is configured to always close windows when processes finish): Last login: Thu Mar 11 19:41:29 on ttys000 /Users/taw/bin/new_term ; exit; ~$ /Users/taw/bin/new_term ; exit; tab 1 logout [Process completed] How do I make it all work correctly? (possibly using a way different that what I've been attempting so far)

  • AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges and osascript failing

    - by cygnl7
I'm attempting to execute an uninstaller (written in AppleScript) through AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges. I'm setting up my rights after creating an empty auth ref like so: char *tool = "/usr/bin/osascript"; AuthorizationItem items = {kAuthorizationRightExecute, strlen(tool), tool, 0}; AuthorizationRights rights = {sizeof(items)/sizeof(AuthorizationItem), &items}; AuthorizationFlags flags = kAuthorizationFlagDefaults | kAuthorizationFlagExtendRights | kAuthorizationFlagPreAuthorize | kAuthorizationFlagInteractionAllowed; status = AuthorizationCopyRights(authorizationRef, &rights, NULL, flags, NULL); Later I call: status = AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges(authorizationRef, tool, kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, (char *const *)args, NULL); On Snow Leopard this works fine, but on Leopard I get the following in syslog.log: Apr 19 15:30:09 hostname /usr/bin/osascript[39226]: OpenScripting.framework - 'gdut' event blocked in process with mixed credentials (issetugid=0 uid=501 euid=0 gid=20 egid=20) Apr 19 15:30:12: --- last message repeated 1 time --- ... • Return Immediately from "run script" in Applescript

    - by Andrew
I want to be able to run an applescript from another applescript, but have it return immediately. I cannot use "osascript script.scpt &" because osascript does not permit "user interaction" and I want to be able to. So, I'm looking for the equivalent of: osascript script.scpt & in "run script script.scpt"

  • Close all Mac Terminal windows, but the one running a script

    - by Greg Brown
I am trying to create a shell script that runs a python simulation programing in 4 terminal windows. I have the script that launches the program four times in four separate terminal windows(total of 5 windows, 4 for the python programs, and one to control the other terminal windows). I want to now create a script that I can run in the control terminal window that closes and kills the programs of the other four terminal windows, but still have the control one open. What I have so far is something like this #!/bin/sh osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" do script "killall python" end tell' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to quit' osascript -e 'tell app "Terminal" to open' The problem is that the last line doesn't work because it closes all the windows including the one the script is executing in. I am not really familiar with shell or apple script so any help would be welcomed. I posted on Stack, but I think this might be a better place for an automation type question. Thanks

  • Run AppleScript with Elevated Privileges from Objective C

(-1708) After researching this for a few hours my first guess is that Leopard somehow doesn't want to do what I'm doing because it knows it's in a setuid situation and blocks calls that ask about user-specific things in the applescript. Am I going about this all wrong? I just want to run the equivalent of "sudo /usr/bin/osascript ..." Edit: FWIW, the first line that causes the "execution error" is: set userAppSupportPath to (POSIX path of (path to application support folder from user domain)) However, even with an empty script (on run argv, end run and that's it) I still get the 'gdut' message.

  • Logout user script

    - by Baconlove
I am trying to create a script in ARD that will let me logout a user. Now I have a script which does start the logout, but I want it to execute instead of waiting 60 seconds. The script currently is: osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to log out' As I said, this works but then I want it to press return on the logout dialog. The script I tried to make it do that is: osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to log out' -e 'keystroke return' which doesn't work. Is there a way, possibly by telling the system to press Cmd+Opt+q, then Enter, to log out without waiting for the timeout to expire?

  • How to hide a Mono application on the OSX Dock

    - by Chris
I have a Mono application that should not show on the dock, but will occasionally show a window. I want neither menu bar nor dock icon to show for this application. I have my application wrapped in an app bundle, and my info.plist file has the LSUIElement set to "1". This does not seem to be hiding my application from the Dock. I have tried also calling osascript with the following info in a Process.Start: osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to set visible of process "myapp" to false' This returns a System Event error code: -10006. Thus far, I've had no luck finding out what that means. I've also tried all the standard Hide() and Visibility = false stuff inside Mono. Anyone found a workaround for this, or have an idea a direction I can look in? For the most part, working in Mono has been straightforward .Net coding, but this has me stumped.

  • Setting up Apache and PHP on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    - by Martin Bean
I've recently purchased an Apple iMac. Unfortunately, enabling Apache and PHP has thrown up some problems. I enabled Mac's built-in Web Sharing through System Preferences, at which point I got an output and could add HTML files to my user directory. However, PHP files were being displayed rather than interpreted. I then discovered this is because PHP isn't enabled by default on Mac's Apache set-up. After a quick Google search, I came across this page: http://developer.apple.com/mac/articles/internet/phpeasyway.html I proceeded to the section, Enabling PHP in Apache, copying and pasting the following code snippet into a new Terminal window and hitting Return: set admin_email to (do shell script "defaults read AddressBookMe ExistingEmailAddress") user_www=$HOME/Sites filename=php-test user_index=${user_www}/${filename}.php user_db=${user_www}/${filename}-db.sqlite3 # NOTE: Having a writeable database in your home directory can be a security risk! conf=`apachectl -V | awk -F= '/SERVER_CONFIG/ {print \$2}'| sed 's/"//g'` conf_old=$conf.$$ conf_new=/tmp/php_conf.new touch $user_db chmod a+r $user_index chmod a+w $user_db chmod a+w $user_www echo "Enabling PHP in $conf ..." sed '/#LoadModule php5_module/s/#LoadModule/LoadModule/' $conf | sed "s^[email protected]^<b>\$admin_email</b>^" > $conf_new echo "(Re)Starting Apache ..." osascript <<EOF do shell script "/bin/mv -f $conf $conf_old; /bin/mv $conf_new $conf; /usr/sbin/apachectl restart" with administrator privileges EOF Unfortunately, this has completed thrown Apache and now nothing is being served; instead I'm receiving "Failed to open page" errors because it cannot connect to the server, despite Web Sharing still being active in System Preferences. So therefore I guess my question is this: how can I undo the changes made by the copy-and-pasting of the above code snippet? Admittedly, I don't understand what the above did; I just thought it looked like a Terminal command and tried it. I have no experience in setting up Apache on Mac OS X (and I've only installed XAMPP and WampServer on Windows). So any points on reversing the aforementioned, and then successfully enabling PHP would be great. EDIT: I've discovered, via Console, the following error message is being recorded when trying to browse to 127.0.0.1... (org.apache.httpd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs (org.apache.httpd[13453]) Exited with exit code: 1 Does this point any more to the issue? EDIT #2: I'm now getting this in Console... 15/02/2010 21:24:14 osascript[3597] Error loading /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: dlopen(/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types, 262): no suitable image found. • AppleScript to click "Don't Save" on window close

    - by dsg
I am using AppleScript to close windows in Google Sketchup as follows: $ osascript -e 'tell application "SketchUp" to close window 1' When I close the window, the program prompts me to save, and there is a dialog box with buttons "Don't Save", "Cancel", and "Save...". How do I make my script click on the "Don't Save" button in this situation? Also, if there is a better way of closing the window, I'm all ears.

  • Calling applescript from shell script using admin previleges

    - by Nir
I'm running a shell script that runs an installation program (by ViseX) and selects different items in the installer through a list. The installer needs administrator privileges to run properly, but I don't want to use sudo. Here's the applescript I'm using: osascript <<-END tell application "$1" with timeout of 8 * 3600 seconds activate Select "$2" DoInstall end timeout end tell END

  • How can I make pref changes via defaults command happen immediately?

    - by user329863
There are many changes to Finder, Dock, etc. preferences that you can do with the defaults command, i.e. defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool yes However, in order to make the changes take effect, you must quit and relaunch the target app: osascript -e 'tell app "Finder" to quit' When the Finder is quit like this (rather than using the killall command, as some published sources advise), it saves and restores its window placements and disk locations (but not the forward-and-back history associated with each window). Is there some way to make such changes take effect immediately, without quitting the target app? After all, when you make changes in the Dock preference panel, they take effect instantly in the Dock application. Is there some Apple Event that I can send to make the change or make the app reread its prefs?

  • Mount a share on a Mac using a login hook

    - by Arcath
I have a script that mounts a Samba share to a folder on the desktop, it runs no problem but when its setup as a LoginHook it doesn't mount the folder. Does anyone have a working login hook that mounts a share that they can post? Or know any issues with mounting shares during login? This is my Script: #!/usr/bin/env ruby @domain="Lancaster" @user=ARGV[0] #@[email protected](/\n/,"") @userfolder="/Users/" + @user.to_s @smbshare="//#{@user}@hercules/everyone" system("mkdir #{@userfolder}/Desktop/everyone") system("mount_smbfs #{@smbshare} #{@userfolder}/Desktop/everyone | #{@userfolde$ system(" /usr/bin/osascript <<-EOF tell application \"System Events\" activate display dialog \"Welcome to the #{@domain} domain #{@user}\n\nY$ end tell EOF ")

  • Can spell checking be disabled by default on OS X?

    - by Lri
Is there some way I could disable continuous spell checking or other settings in the substitutions menu by default? System Preferences only has an option to disable autocorrect. defaults write -g CheckSpellingWhileTyping -bool false would be overridden by keys on the property lists of applications. This would only apply to applications that have been used before: #!/bin/bash for d in $(defaults domains | tr -d ,); do osascript -e "app id \"$d\"" > /dev/null 2>&1 [ $? == 1 ] && continue echo $d defaults write $d CheckSpellingWhileTyping -bool false defaults write $d SmartDashes -bool false defaults write $d SmartLinks -bool false defaults write $d SmartQuotes -bool false defaults write $d SmartCopyPaste -bool false defaults write $d TextReplacement -bool false done

  • NSTask Launch causing crash

    - by tripskeet
Hi, I have an application that can import an XML file through this terminal command : open /path/to/main\ app.app --args myXML.xml This works great with no issues. And i have used Applescript to launch this command through shell and it works just as well. Yet when try using Cocoa's NSTask Launcher using this code : NSTask *task = [[NSTask alloc] init]; [task setLaunchPath:@"/usr/bin/open"]; [task setCurrentDirectoryPath:@"/Applications/MainApp/InstallData/App/"]; [task setArguments:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:[(NSURL *)foundApplicationURL path], @"--args", @"ImportP.xml", nil]]; [task launch]; the applications will start up to the initial screen and then crash when either the next button is clicked or when trying to close the window. Ive tried using NSAppleScript with this : NSAppleScript *script = [[NSAppleScript alloc] initWithSource:@"tell application \"Terminal\" do script \"open /Applications/MainApp/InstallData/App/Main\\\\ App.app\" end tell"]; NSDictionary *errorInfo; [script executeAndReturnError:&errorInfo]; This will launch the program and it will crash as well and i get this error in my Xcode debug window : 12011-01-04 17:41:28.296 LaunchAppFile[4453:a0f] Error loading /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: dlopen(/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types, 262): no suitable image found. Did find: /Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Unit Types: no matching architecture in universal wrapper LaunchAppFile: OpenScripting.framework - scripting addition "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax" declares no loadable handlers. So with research i came up with this : NSAppleScript *script = [[NSAppleScript alloc] initWithSource:@"do shell script \"arch -i386 osascript /Applications/MainApp/InstallData/App/test.scpt\""]; NSDictionary *errorInfo; [script executeAndReturnError:&errorInfo]; But this causes the same results as the last command. Any ideas on what causes this crash?

  • Use launchctl to fire an AppleScript script periodically

    - by Daktari
I have written an AppleScript that lets me back up a particular file. The script runs fine inside AppleScript Editor: it does what it's supposed to do perfectly. So far so good. Now I'd like to run this script at timed intervals. So I use launchctl & .plist to make this happen. That's where the trouble starts. the script is loaded at set interval by launchctl the AppleScript Editor (when open) brings its window (with that script) to the foreground but no code is executed when AppleScript Editor is not running, nothing seems to be happening at all Any ideas as to why this is not working? -- After editing (as per Daniel Beck's suggestions) my plist now looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>KeepAlive</key> <false/> <key>Label</key> <string>com.opera.autosave</string> <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>osascript</string> <string>/Users/user_name/Library/Scripts/opera_autosave_bak.scpt</string> </array> <key>StartInterval</key> <integer>30</integer> </dict> </plist> and the AppleScript I'm trying to run: on appIsRunning(appName) tell application "System Events" to (name of processes) contains appName end appIsRunning --only run this script when Opera is running if appIsRunning("Opera") then set base_path to "user_name:Library:Preferences:Opera Preferences:sessions:" set autosave_file to "test.txt" set autosave_file_old to "test_old.txt" set autosave_file_older to "test_older.txt" set autosave_file_oldest to "test_oldest.txt" set autosave_path to base_path & autosave_file set autosave_path_old to base_path & autosave_file_old set autosave_path_older to base_path & autosave_file_older set autosave_path_oldest to base_path & autosave_file_oldest set copied_file to "test copy.txt" set copied_path to base_path & copied_file tell application "Finder" duplicate file autosave_path delete file autosave_path_oldest set name of file autosave_path_older to autosave_file_oldest set name of file autosave_path_old to autosave_file_older set name of file copied_path to autosave_file_old end tell end if
