  • Get the SEF URLs for articles in joomla

    - by DMin
Hi, I use no-editor in joomla with SEF urls enabled. With no SEF enabled its easy to know the URL by just getting the ID of the article something like : Article 1 would be : http://www.abc.com/j15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=1 Now if I have SEF switched on I would get urls that look like: http://www.abc.com/j15/the-content.html Is there a way inside joomla where I can findout what the SEF URL for a particular page is? Currently I add these articles to a menu, then from the front-end I get the SEF URL and then use it. I know the process is a little dumb but I want to find-out if there is a better way inside joomla where you can get the SEF URL(using no-editor). Thanks! :)

  • Transitioning from desktop app written in C++ to a web-based app

    - by Karim
We have a mature Windows desktop application written in C++. The application's GUI sits on top of a windows DLL that does most of the work for the GUI (it's kind of the engine). It, too, is written in C++. We are considering transitioning the Windows app to be a web-based app for various reasons. What I would like to avoid is having to writing the CGI for this web-based app in C++. That is, I would rather have the power of a 4G language like Python or a .NET language for creating the web-based version of this app. So, the question is: given that I need to use a C++ DLL on the backend to do the work of the app what technology stack would you recommend for sitting between the user's browser and are C++ dll? We can assume that the web server will be Windows. Some options: Write a COM layer on top of the windows DLL which can then be access via .NET and use ASP.NET for the UI Access the export DLL interface directly from .NET and use ASP.NET for the UI. Write a custom Python library that wraps the windows DLL so that the rest of the code can be written. Write the CGI using C++ and a C++-based MVC framework like Wt Concerns: I would rather not use C++ for the web framework if it can be avoided - I think languages like Python and C# are simply more powerful and efficient in terms of development time. I'm concerned that my mixing managed and unmanaged code with one of the .NET solutions I'm asking for lots of little problems that are hard to debug (purely anecdotal evidence for that) Same is true for using a Python layer. Anything that's slightly off the beaten path like that worries me in that I don't have much evidence one way or the other if this is a viable long term solution.

  • Experience/Articles about "decision tree" documentation?

    - by Philipp Keller
I'm running an "defect fixing" group (developers do 2 weeks operations, then rotate). I want to build up a documentation "how to deal with problem x" - basically a decision tree: Is the problem in part x of the web site? Yes: Is the problem occurring in all browsers? Yes: ... No: ... No: ... The documentation should be written and extended by the people using it. Do you know of any book/article describing how that is best done, or is there a software (Mac OS X) that helps doing that?

  • Building a Drupal Newsletter Module for handling Newsletter Articles

    - by Michael T. Smith
We're building a module for generating HTML for email newsletters. We've looked into using a few other modules (SimpleNews, MailChimp, among others), but due to various requirements, it'll be easier and better for us to build a custom solution. Being a new Drupal developer, I'm a bit worried about handling this in a "non-Drupal" way. That being said, my plan is to setup a vocabulary with Newsletters as a term and the actual Newsletters as sub-terms, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Newsletter B (sub-term) This has the added benefit of being able to organize where articles were published (besides just on the site.) The question, though, is how to handle the different Newsletter issues. I could go another level deeper in the vocabulary, like so: Newsletters (term) - Newsletter A (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-02 - Newsletter B (sub-term) - Issue - 2010-03-01 - Issue - 2010-03-08 But I'm wondering if this is adding a bit too much complexity. Once I have this taxonomy setup, when the user went to add new newsletters it would also create a node (content type: newsletter), and when he/she went to add new issues, it would also create a node (content type: issue.) Those would then be the landing pages for that content. So, the question is is there a better way for handling this structure? Is this a Drupal-like solution?

  • Adding Categories to my Articles in my Rails app (Small Help)

    - by user214038
I'm currently building a semi-small ruby app for a project. The problem I'm currently facing is the following: I want to be Able to fit the Article into the Categories. I've already accomplish this by having two models. An article model with a foreign key of category_id and my Category model with the name of the category. With a has_one and belogs_to relationship. (We're assuming you can only fit an article into one category). Here's the piece of code. This is the new method, where i create a new article and load up all the categories. def new @article = Article.new @categories = Category.find(:all) end The problem comes when i try to get the category from a combo box in order to insert it along with the article. This is the combo box code : f.select(:category_id,@categories) And this is the create method: def create @category = Category.find(params[:id]) @article = @category.articles.new(params[:article]) if @article.save flash[:notice] = "Article Submitted Sucessfully" redirect_to user_path else render :action = 'new' end end I believe that the problem i have is in this line when i try to load up the selected category "@category = Category.find(params[:id])" because whenever i hardcode the this line into @category = Category.find(1) It Works perfectly

  • Virtualhost entries gets over-written when apache httpd.conf is rebuilt

    - by Amitabh
Background: We have been trying to get a wildcard SSL working on multiple sub domains on a single dedicated address.. We have two sub domains next.my-personal-website.com and blog.my-personal-website.com Part of our strategy has been to edit the httpd.conf and add the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the virtualhost entries for port 443 for the subdomains there. This works good if we just edit the httpd.conf, add the entries, save it and restart the apache. The problem: But if we add a new sub domain from cpanel or we run the # /usr/local/cpanel/bin/apache_conf_distiller --update # /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf the virtualhost entries that we added manually are no more there in the newly generated httpd.conf file. Only the virtualhost entry for the main domain for port 443 that was there before we made edits to the httpd.conf is there(assuming we are not discussing virtualhost entries for port 80). I understand we need to put the new virtualhost entries in some include files as mentioned here in the cpanel documentation. But am not sure where to. So the question would be where do I put the NameVirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443 directive and the two virtualhost directive for port 443, so that they are not overwritten when httpd.conf is rebuilt/regenerated later. Virtualhost entries: The two virtualhost entries for the subdomains are: <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName next.my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.next.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html/next.my-personal-website.com ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName On CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/next.my-personal-website.com/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/next.my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> and <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName blog.my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.blog.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html/blog.my-personal-website.com ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName On CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/blog.my-personal-website.com/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/blog.my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> and the automatically generated virtualhost entry for the main domain for port 443 is <VirtualHost xx.xx.144.72:443> ServerName my-personal-website.com ServerAlias www.my-personal-website.com DocumentRoot /home/myguardi/public_html ServerAdmin [email protected] UseCanonicalName Off CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com combined CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com-bytes_log "%{%s}t %I .\n%{%s}t %O ." ## User myguardi # Needed for Cpanel::ApacheConf <IfModule mod_suphp.c> suPHP_UserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_disable_suexec.c> SuexecUserGroup myguardi myguardi </IfModule> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin/ SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/my-personal-website.com.key SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/my-personal-website.com.cabundle CustomLog /usr/local/apache/domlogs/my-personal-website.com-ssl_log combined SetEnvIf User-Agent ".*MSIE.*" nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown <Directory "/home/myguardi/public_html/cgi-bin"> SSLOptions +StdEnvVars </Directory> # To customize this VirtualHost use an include file at the following location # Include "/usr/local/apache/conf/userdata/ssl/2/myguardi/my-personal-website.com/*.conf" I really appreciate if somebody can tell me how to proceed on this. • Resizing mysterious partition written by DDing an ISO file

    - by Jon
I downloaded clonezilla and then wrote it to a USB flash drive with this: dd if=clonezilla.iso of=/dev/sdb I've confirmed that the system boots and clonezilla runs from the flash drive. I want to store a clonezilla backup on the same flash drive clonezilla is running on, but I tried it and ran out of space, so I started looking at how to resize the mysterious partition type that was generated from the ISO. fdisk -l /dev/sdb .... Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 1 111 113664 17 Hidden HPFS/NTFS .... I've tried using ntfsresize from the Debian ntfsprogs package. I'm trying gparted next, but thought I'd ask here if anyone knows a neat way to resize a partition created on flash from a liveCD image. Thanks in advance Jon ps. Assume Debian 6 please.

  • Create Your Own Hand-written Font for Free

    - by User1
Does anyone know of a place where you can create your own handwritten font for free? I used to use http://www.yourfonts.com/, but now they want money. Is there some sort of free, downloadable tool to do this? BTW: There are some online programs that allow the user to create a font using a mouse. (See this question). Very cool. But, I want something that can take a scan and turn it into a font file. Any ideas?

  • SAMBA and Linux ACLs -- "Permission denied" on write to share but file written nevertheless

    - by MCH
I set up a writable share directory "/home/net/share" with acl like this: sudo mkdir -p "/home/net/share" sudo setfacl -m "u:localuser:rwx,u:remoteuser:rwx,g:users:rwx" "/home/net/share" My /etc/samba/smb.conf looks like this: [global] workgroup = w server string = server security = user load printers = no log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 50 dns proxy = no printing = bsd printcap name = /dev/null disable spoolss = yes encrypt passwords = true invalid users = nobody root follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes [share] comment = Writable by localuser and remoteuser path = /home/net/share valid users = remoteuser read only = no public = no printable = no Locally, localuser and remoteuser have user accounts and smbpasswds and can both read, create and delete files in /home/net/share. But when I log on from a different machine (like this: sudo mount -t cifs //server/share mountpoint/ -o username=remoteuser ), I get "Permission denied" both when trying to create directories and files, oddly though, it does create files (not directories!) despite these messages! How can I get this working?

  • How to find what is written to filesystem under linux

    - by bardiir
How can i find out what processes write to a specific disc over time? In my particular case I got a little homeserver running 24/7 and I included a script in the crontab to shutdown all drives that are not used (no change in /proc/diskstats for 15 minutes). But my system disc won't come down at all. I'm suspecting logs but it's probably not only logs writing to the filesystem on the system disk and I don't want to go all the way moving the logfiles to something else just to find out the disc still doesn't spin down and there's nothing i can do against it.

  • Japanese keyboard layout in Windows 7 doesn't correspond to what's written on the physical keyboard

    - by theo
I have an English version of Windows 7, but my keyboard is Japanese. However, even though I choose a Japanese keyboard (Microsoft IME) under Keyboard and Languages, the layout isn't right. I think it's English layout, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I want the layout and usage to be exactly like it is on a Japanese Windows 7, as there are some nice (mouse free) shortcuts to change between input modes. Any suggestions?

  • Corsair SSD appears completely blank and does not retain written data

    - by ebanders
I have a 180GB Corsair SSD (model# CSSD-F180GB2-BRKT) as the primary drive in a Windows laptop. Recently the machine became unbootable after installing Windows updates. Windows installed updates before the machine shut down and the next time the machine boot up it complained about not being able to find a bootable device. After finding fixmbr unsuccessful at making the machine unbootable, I investigated a little within knoppix. Fdisk revealed an empty partition table. A scan by Testdisk came up empty. And finally 'head -c 1024 | hd' reveals all zeros. Creating a primary partition spanning the whole disk completes successfully, but after a reboot the disk appears empty again. dmesg reveals no read or write errors. smartctl indicates that the drive is healthy- although the SMART attribute values do not appear to be read properly. "Data Page | WARNING: PREVIOUS ATTRIBUTE HAS TWO" and "Threshold Page | INCONSISTENT IDENTITIES IN THE DATA" messages appear within the table of values. I don't have much experience with SSDs. Is this drive dead or something? Can anyone recommend any diagnostic tools that may be suited for diagnosing SSDs?

  • What are modern and old compilers written in?

    - by ulum
As a compiler, other than an interpreter, only needs to translate the input and not run it the performance of itself should be not that problematic as with an interpreter. Therefore, you wouldn't write an interpreter in, let's say Ruby or PHP because it would be far too slow. However, what about compilers? If you would write a compiler in a scripting language maybe even featuring rapid development you could possibly cut the source code and initial development time by halv, at least I think so. To be sure: With scripting language I mean interpreted languages having typical features that make programming faster, easier and more enjoyable for the programmer, usually at least. Examples: PHP, Ruby, Python, maybe JavaScript though that may be an odd choice for a compiler What are compilers normally written in? As I suppose you will respond with something low-level like C, C++ or even Assembler, why? Are there compilers written in scripting languages? What are the (dis)advantages of using low or high level programming languages for compiler writing?

  • What useful GDB scripts have you used/written?

    - by nik
People use gdb on and off for debugging, of course there are lots of other debugging tools across the varied OSes, with and without GUI and, maybe other fancy IDE features. I would like to know what useful gdb scripts you have written and liked. While, I do not mean a dump of commands in a something.gdb file that you source to pull out a bunch of data, if that made your day, go ahead and talk about it. Lets think conditional processing, control loops and functions written for more elegant and refined programming to debug and, maybe even for whitebox testing Things get interesting when you start debugging remote systems (say, over a serial/ethernet interface) And, what if the target is a multi-processor (and, multithreaded) system Let me put a simple case as an example... Say, A script that traversed serially over entries to locate a bad entry in a large hash-table that is implemented on an embedded platform. That helped me debug a broken hash-table once.

  • In what language was MSDOS originally written in?

    - by nebukadnezzar
In what language was MSDOS originally written in? The Wikipedia Article implies either C, QBasic or Pascal, but: * C was invented to write UNIX, so I don't believe it was used to write MSDOS * Pascal seems popular to teach programming, but not really popular to write Operating systems in * QBasic didn't seem to be very popular for Operating Systems at the time MSDOS was developed (or was *BASIC ever very popular to write Operating Systems in it?) Except these three languages there is also Assembly, but I assume that Microsoft already switched from Assembly to a "higher" level language? Since C was originally invented for UNIX, I still wouldn't think Microsoft is using C... although the Microsoft API is written in C (I find this kind-of oxymoronic, actually). Can anyone enlighten me on this topic?

  • Multimedia files written over WAN are getting truncated

    - by Dean
I use the windows Multimedia API to create .wav files. 1. Open file with mmsioOpen 2. Creates WAVE,frm and data chunks using mmioCreateChunk 3. Write audio data using mmioWrite 4. Ascend out of the chunks using mmioAscend 5. Close file using mmioClose The file is being written into a temporary location, so after it has been closed it gets copied to another location using the CopyFile. This program is written in C++ and works great until the file it is writing resides over a WAN in a different city or country. The end result is a wav file that should be 20-30 seconds long ends up being 4 secodns long. It is always the last bit that is missing, so when you play it back it just stops before then of the recording. I initially thought that maybe I was copying the file too soon so as a test I put in a pause of 30 seconds after closing the file using Sleep(30000), but this made no difference to either it being truncated or by how much. I have modified the program to write to a file in parrallel using CreateFile and WriteFile, and the result is the same, so it is not an issue specifically with the mmio API's. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and if there is a work-around to it? I suspect that I may end up having the temporary location on the local drive, but this is quite a big change to the application as well as existing deployments. thanks for everyones time Dean

  • Problem reading in file written with xdr using c

    - by Inga
    I am using Ubuntu 10.4 and have two (long) C programs, one that writes a file using XDR, and one that uses this file as input. However, the second program does not manage to read in the written file. Everything looks perfectly fine, it just does not work. More spesifically it fails at the last line added here with the error message xdr_string(), which indicates that it can not read in the first line of the input file. I do no see any obvious errors. The input file is written out, have a content and I can see the right strings using stings -a -n 2 "inputfile". Anyone have any idea what is going wrong? Relevant parts of program 1 (writer): /** * create compressed XDR output stream */ output_file=open_write_pipe(output_filename); xdrstdio_create(&xdrs, output_file, XDR_ENCODE); /** * print material name */ if( xdr_string(&xdrs, &name, _POSIX_NAME_MAX) == FALSE ) xdr_err("xdr_string()"); Relevant parts of program 2 (reader): /** * open data file */ input_file=open_data_file(input_filename, "r"); if( input_file == NULL ){ ERROR(input_filename); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } /** * create input XDR stream */ xdrstdio_create(&xdrs, input_file, XDR_DECODE); /** * read material name */ if(xdr_string(&xdrs, &name, _POSIX_NAME_MAX) == FALSE) XDR_ERR("xdr_string()");
