  • My webcam is not working with Google+ Hangout, can I make it work?

    I just got an invitation for Google+, the video conference feature "hangout" is the first feature I checked out, and unfortunately the webcam is not working, the mic and speakers work ok. When I started it, it recquired me to install a new version of Google Talk plugin 2.1.7.0. It seems that now the gmail chat and the chat within empathy( that used to work) does not work either. in the settings of the webcam in google hangout window my only option, is gspca driver. Notice that my cam had problems with skype, and i had to go around it by env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype How can I make it work?

  • Limit the size of a directory by deleting old files

    I have a IP cam which save its recordings in a specific directory named Camera1 in my Ubuntu Server 12.04. I would like to limit the size of this folder to 5 gigs, by deleting -say once a day- the oldest files. I first checked the quota program but it doesn't seem to allow the creation of new files and deleting of the old ones. So I think the best workaround would be to run a bash script ? But I have no idea how to write it... Thank you guys !

  • Why I LOVE Dell

    We recently ordered a laptop for an employee.  It was delivered yesterday and we realized it had no web cam and wasn’t the 1080p resolution.  He wasn’t happy. So, this morning, I sent an e-mail to our rep and asked him what we could do.  Within an hour or two, he called me, arranged a replacement laptop with the corrected specs, set up a return and had everything arranged and charged us only for the difference.  No pain, no silly questions.  We won’t loose use of the laptop either.  The return and the new laptop will overlap so that we can just pack up the old laptop in the box of the new one, slap some labels on and away we go. This has been my experience with Dell over the past 10 years.  Their corporate service has always been fantastic, and it’s made me a huge fan.  Keep up the good work, Dell! Technorati Tags: Dell

  • Ubuntu 12.04 Syntek in-built webcam not detected

    I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and my inbuilt camera is not detected. I have tried with Cheese and GUVCView, but neither detects the webcam. I have also tried the solution proposed above using the Terminal, with no results.   • How to limit concurrent file access on a Samba share?

    I have a Ubuntu 12.04 file server running Samba. There are 6 windows machines that access the server, as well as two people that will occasionally access files remotely. The problem that I am having is that the CAD/CAM software we are using doesn't seem to request file locks, meaning if two people open a file at the same time, the first person to close the file will get their changes overwritten if the second person saves the file. I tried changing the smb.conf to strict locking = yes but this doesn't seem to have any effect. File locking with excel seems to work fine, so I know that Samba is using the file locks...if they were put on the file in the first place. Is there a way (either in Samba or Ubuntu) to only allow one user to have a file open at a time? If not does anyone have any suggestions for managing a problem like this?

I am able to do encoding with a usb connected web cam but I cannot find a way to use the encoder to connect to ip camera connected to our switch. Does anyone have experience setting up an ip camera to encode into the Silverlight framework?

I using web cam for tracking and It can recognize face.Then I am taking only part of face to an new gray image and comparing it using EigenObjectRecognizer with list of images in database.But it is not giving good result.Some times find some thing wrong,some times nothing.I want to ask that for comparing photos which additional techniques i must implement?Like Histogram equalization or resolution of faces equalization ?

    Hi, I am looking for a fairly simple image comparison method in AS3. I have taken an image from a web cam (with no subject) passed it in to bitmap data, then a second image is taken (this time with a subject) to compare this data, from these two images I would like to create a mask from the pixels that match on both bitmaps. I have been scratching my head for a while, and I am not really making any progress.     Hello, I am using JMF to operate my web cam.My usb webcam works perfectly with JMF, I used it in JMStudio however,when I make this call from my java code deviceListVector = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList( null ); my USB "webcam" is detected however when i am trying to detect webcam on my laptop it is not detecting any device.   • UTF-8 character encoding in Java

    Hello, I am having some problems getting some French text to convert to UTF8 so that it can be displayed properly, either in a console, text file or in a GUI element.
