  • z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

    - by Ojtwist
I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot. So the user can drag an image from 1 gallery to the next gallery screenshot of how it should work: http://img69.imageshack.us/i/draganddrop.jpg/ Some html: <!--SECOND ARROCRDION ITEM --> <a class="flickr_accordeon_header" id="flickr_second_header" href="javascript:;">__MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</a> <div> <p class ="flickr_text" > __MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</p> <form method="GET" action="javascript:;"> <p> <input type="text" value="__MSG__SEARCH__" id="flickr_key_input" class="flickr_changeColorNormal" /> <button class="s3d-button flickr_search" id="flickr_seach_button"> <span class="s3d-button-inner" >__MSG__SEARCH__</span> </button> <img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/ajax-loader-gray.gif" alt="__MSG__LOADING_IMAGE__" id="flickr_loading_img" /> <a href="javascript:;" id="flickr_refresh_key_button"><img src="/dev/_images/recent_activity_icon.png" alt="refresh" title='refresh' /></a> </p> </form> <div id="flickr_input_error">__MSG__INPUT_ERROR__</div> <div id="flickr_input_same_error">__MSG__INPUT_SAME_ERROR__</div> **<div id="flickr_key_gallery" ><ul class="flickr_key_ul"><li></li></ul></div>** <div id="flickr_key_pagging" ></div> </div> </div> <!--SLIDING SIDEBAR --> <div id="flickr_sidebar" class="jcarousel-skin-tango"> <div id="flickr_side_paging"></div> **<ul> <li><img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/drop-image.png" alt="__MSG__DROP_HERE__" class="flick_drop_here"></li> </ul>** </div> The images get rendered into the ul, so basically it's just an ul with li's with images javascript for sortable: horizontal: { helper: "clone", // Instead of dragging the real image a copy will be dragged connectWith: ["#flickr_sidebar ul"], // To be able to drag and drop an image to another image gallery they need to be connected cursor: 'pointer', //change the cursor when dragging opacity: 0.50, //Change the opacity while dragging appendTo: 'body', //When dropped the images need to be appended to the image gallery where they are dropped containment: 'body', //Make sure the user can't drag the images outside the widget revert: true, // if the user releases the image ouside the dropbox it'll return to it's original position zIndex: 9999 } I've tried it with setting the dragged image to absolute and the container on relative... doesn't work Anyone know how to solve this in IE8 ?

  • CSS - Can't get the z-index to apply correctly in Internet Explorer

    - by peaki
    I've written a jQuery script to replace <select /> elements with some DIV's and UL's allowing my to simulate the original SELECT but also allow me to style it. So far, aside from a few minor bugs, it works rather nicely. However, in Internet Explorer, the 'options' div is getting rendered underneath the elements below the div. Here's the HTML: <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test4</li> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> <br /><br /> <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> If I open the first select, the LI list sits underneath the second select box rather than above it. I can't get the z-indexes to work properly. What am I missing? :/

  • Does Google index HTTPS ASP.NET pages?

    - by ncakmak
I have an online application that all of its pages use HTTPS. I have 3 questions: Does Google index HTTPS pages? I have a password protected single ASP.NET page (using HTTPS). Password protection is basically achieved by a Session object. When the correct password is entered, it hides the login panel and displays the same page which has a sensitive data. Is this page indexed by Google? I have a Secure folder that I implemented Forms Authentication. All pages in folder use HTTPS as well. Are the pages in this folder indexed by Google? Thank you for your help, Niyazi

  • jQuery UI Autocomplete with scrollbar z-index help

    - by rpf3
I have a textbox that I am attaching jQuery UI's Autocomplete functionality to and I am using CSS to give it a max height via the example here. My problem is that doing this causes the z-index problem that bgiframe solves to come back again, but in a different way. The initial autocomplete menu is above all the controls underneath it, but when I begin to scroll the autocomplete menu falls behind them. Any suggestions? EDIT: This is purely an IE6 bug. As you can see, after scrolling down the autocomplete falls behind the other controls.

  • MySQL - how long to create an index?

    - by user293594
Can anyone tell me how adding a key scales in MySQL? I have 500,000,000 rows in a database, trans, with columns i (INT UNSIGNED), j (INT UNSIGNED), nu (DOUBLE), A (DOUBLE). I try to index a column, e.g. ALTER TABLE trans ADD KEY idx_A (A); and I wait. For a table of 14,000,000 rows it took about 2 minutes to execute on my MacBook Pro, but for the whole half a billion, it's taking 15hrs and counting. Am I doing something wrong, or am I just being naive about how indexing a database scales with the number of rows?

  • jQuery Sortable + Droppable z-index problem

    - by unknowndomain
I am having a probelm with the z-index of my sortable object not being above my droppable. If you visit http://clareshilland.unknowndomain.co.uk/. Press Ctrl + L to bring up the login screen. Enter the username clare and the password shilland. It will then load in the admin bar and if you click manage gallery. A pop down thumbnail view will appear with all the photos from that gallery. The issue is that when you drag the 'polaroids' from the grid to the delete area they are under the delete area. I tried putting the delete area inside the same div as the grid but it makes no difference, I just don't know what to do at this point so any help would be a massive help!

  • Get highest frequency terms from Lucene index

    - by Julia
Hello! i need to extract terms with highest frequencies from several lucene indexes, to use them for some semantic analysis. So, I want to get maybe top 30 most occuring terms(still did not decide on threshold, i will analyze results) and their per-index counts. I am aware that I might lose some precision because of potentionally dropped duplicates, but for now, lets say i am ok with that. So for the proposed solutions, (needless to say maybe) speed is not important, since I would do static analysis, I would put accent on simplicity of implementation because im not so skilled with Lucene (not the programming guru too :/ ) and cant wrap my mind around many concepts of it.. I can not find any code samples from something similar, so all concrete advices (code, pseudocode, links to code samples...) I will apretiate very much!!! Thank you!

  • How to "defragment" MongoDB index effectively in production?

    - by dfrankow
I've been looking at MongoDB. Feels good. I added some indexes to a collection, uploaded a bunch of data, then removed all the data, and I noticed the indexes did not change size, similar to the behavior reported here. If I call db.repairDatabase() the indexes are then squashed to near-zero. Similarly if I don't remove all the data, but call repairDatabase(), the indexes are squashed somewhat (perhaps because unused extends are truncated?). I am getting index size from "totalIndexSize" of db.collection.stats(). However, that takes a long time (I've read it could be hours on a large database). It's unclear to me how available the database is for reads or writes while it is running. I am guessing not so available. Since I want to run as few instances of mongod as possible, I want to understand more about how indexes are managed after deletes. Can anyone point me to anything or give any advice?

  • Python: Trying to get index of an intersection

    - by user1620716
I have the following line of code: for i in [i for i,x in enumerate(catdate) if x == set(NNSRCfile['datetimenew']).intersection(catdate)]: print i I am trying to find the index of the intersection for the two components above. Both are lengthy lists that have several commonalities. The intersection part works perfectly; however, the for loop seems to output nothing. (ie: there is nothing that is printed). Python outputs no error, and when I run the code in IPython, I notice that i is equivalent to to the very last element in the list "catdate", instead of listing the indices of "catdate" that are equivalent to the intersection values. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Selecting data in clustered index order without ORDER BY

    - by kcrumley
I know there is no guarantee without an ORDER BY clause, but are there any techniques to tune SQL Server tables so they're more likely to return rows in clustered index order, without having to specify ORDER BY every single time I want to run a super-quick ad hoc query? For example, would rebuilding my clustered index or updating statistics help? I'm aware that I can't count on a query like: select * from AuditLog where UserId = 992 to return records in the order of the clustered index, so I would never build code into an application based on this assumption. But for simple ad hoc queries, on almost all of my tables, the data consistently comes out in clustered index order, and I've gotten used to being able to expect the most recent results to be at the bottom. Out of all the many tables we use, I've only noticed two ever giving me results in an unpredicted order. This is really just an annoyance, but it would be nice to be able to minimize it. In case this is relevant because of page boundary issues or something like that, I should mention that one of the tables that has inconsistent ordering, the AuditLog table, is the longest table we have that has a clustered index on an identity column. Also, this database has recently been moved from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008, and we've seen no noticeable change in this behavior.

  • Do non-clustered indexes slow down inserts?

    - by mikeinmadison
I'm working in Sql Server 2005. I have an event log table that tracks user actions, and I want to make sure that inserts into the table are as fast as possible. Currently the table doesn't have any indexes. Does adding a single non-clustered index slow down inserts at all? Or is it only clustered indexes that slow down inserts? Or should I just add a clustered index and not worry about it?

  • Get index of nth occurrence of char in a string

    - by StickFigs
I'm trying to make a function that returns the index of the Nth occurrence of a given char in a string. Here is my attempt: private int IndexOfNth(string str, char c, int n) { int index = str.IndexOf(c) + 1; if (index >= 0) { string temp = str.Substring(index, str.Length - index); for (int j = 1; j < n; j++) { index = temp.IndexOf(c) + 1; if (index < 0) { return -1; } temp = temp.Substring(index, temp.Length - index); } index = index + (str.Length); } return index; } This should find the first occurrence, chop off that front part of the string, find the first occurrence from the new substring, and on and on until it gets the index of the nth occurrence. However I failed to consider how the index of the final substring is going to be offset from the original actual index in the original string. How do I make this work? Also as a side question, if I want the char to be the tab character do I pass this function '\t' or what?

  • Returning the index number of an Arraylist in Java

  • How to index and search .doc files

    - by Jared
I have an application that needs to have .doc files uploaded to it. These documents should then be index and the whole collection of documents should be searchable. This will run on a Windows Server, without Word installed, using IIS and SqlServer, but I'd rather not be tied to SqlServer's full text indexing. I was thinking of using Lucene.Net for the indexing part and was wondering what the best way to get the text out of the .doc files would be. I could probably extract the text by reading in the whole stream and then using a regEx to pull out any regular characters, but that seems hefty and prone to error. I saw an article on using iFilters that sounds promising, but I thought I'd put this out there since it's not something I'm familiar with. P.S. If it matters, these .doc files will have mail-merge fields in them and there's no other current alternative for the .doc format.

  • Google maps z-index problem in IE

    - by Bas van de Lustgraaf
I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div? While toggleDown in FF: http:// img169.imageshack.us/img169/9274/50485429.jpg While toggleDown in IE: http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/2110/93959677.jpg

  • Why MySQL multiple-column index is overpopulated?

    - by actual
Consider following MySQL table: CREATE TABLE `log` ( `what` enum('add', 'edit', 'remove') CHARACTER SET ascii COLLATE ascii_bin NOT NULL, `with` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, KEY `with_what` (`with`,`what`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB; INSERT INTO `log` (`what`, `with`) VALUES ('add', 1), ('edit', 1), ('add', 2), ('remove', 2); As I understand, with_what index must have 2 unique entries on its first with level and 3 unique entries in what "subindex". But MySQL reports 4 unique entries for each level. In other words, number of unique elements for each level is always equal to number of rows in log table. Is that a bug, a feature or my misunderstanding?

  • Clustered index on frequently changing reference table of one or more foreign keys

    - by Ian
My specific concern is related to the performance of a clustered index on a reference table that has many rapid inserts and deletes. Table 1 "Collection" collection_pk int (among other fields) Table 2 "Item" item_pk int (among other fields) Reference Table "Collection_Items" collection_pk int, item_pk int (combined primary key) Because the primary key is composed of both pks, a clustered index is created and the data physically ordered in the table according to the combined keys. I have many users creating and deleting collections and adding and removing items to those collections very frequently affecting the "Collection_Items" table, and its clustered index. QUESTION PART: Since the "Collection_Items" table is so dynamic, wouldn't there be a big performance hit on constantly resorting the table rows because of the clustered index ? If yes, what should I do to minimize this ?

  • SQL SERVER – Index Created on View not Used Often – Limitation of the View 12

    - by pinaldave
I have previously written on the subject SQL SERVER – The Limitations of the Views – Eleven and more…. This was indeed a very popular series and I had received lots of feedback on that topic. Today we are going to discuss something very interesting as well. During my recent performance tuning seminar in Hyderabad, I presented on the subject of Views. During the seminar, one of the attendees asked a question: We create a table and create a View on the top of it. On the same view, if we create Index, when querying View, will that index be used? The answer is NOT Always! (There is only one specific condition when it will be used. We will write about that later in the next post). Let us see the test case for the same. In our script we will do following: USE tempdb GO IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.views WHERE OBJECT_ID = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[SampleView]')) DROP VIEW [dbo].[SampleView] GO IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE OBJECT_ID = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[mySampleTable]') AND TYPE IN (N'U')) DROP TABLE [dbo].[mySampleTable] GO -- Create SampleTable CREATE TABLE mySampleTable (ID1 INT, ID2 INT, SomeData VARCHAR(100)) INSERT INTO mySampleTable (ID1,ID2,SomeData) SELECT TOP 100000 ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY o1.name), ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY o2.name), o2.name FROM sys.all_objects o1 CROSS JOIN sys.all_objects o2 GO -- Create View CREATE VIEW SampleView WITH SCHEMABINDING AS SELECT ID1,ID2,SomeData FROM dbo.mySampleTable GO -- Create Index on View CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX [IX_ViewSample] ON [dbo].[SampleView] ( ID2 ASC ) GO -- Select from view SELECT ID1,ID2,SomeData FROM SampleView GO Let us check the execution plan for the last SELECT statement. You can see from the execution plan. That even though we are querying View and the View has index, it is not really using that index. In the next post, we will see the significance of this View and where it can be helpful. Meanwhile, I encourage you to read my View series: SQL SERVER – The Limitations of the Views – Eleven and more…. • SQL SERVER – What is Spatial Database? – Developing with SQL Server Spatial and Deep Dive into Spati

    - by pinaldave
What is Spatial Database? A spatial database is a database that is optimized to store and query data related to objects in space, including points, lines and polygons. While typical databases can understand various numeric and character types of data, additional functionality needs to be added for databases to process spatial data types. (Source: Wikipedia) Today I will be talking about the same subject at Microsoft TechEd India. If you want to learn about how to spatial aspect of data and how to integrate them with SQL Server this is the perfect session for you. Spatial is very special concept of SQL Server and I really like how it is implemented in SQL Server. In general Performance Tuning and Query Optimization is something I always have enjoyed in my professional life. Index are my best friends and many time, by implementing and many time by removing I have improved the performance of the system. In this session, I will be talking about Index along with Spatial Data. As Spatial Database is very interesting concept, I will cover super short but very interesting 10 quick slides about this subject. I will make sure in very first 20 mins, you will understand following topics Introduction to Spatial Database One line definition Understanding Spatial Indexing Index Internals Query/Performance Tuning Query Hinting/Cost Analysis Spatial Index Catalog Views Performance Troubleshooting Finding Optimal Index using Spatial Index SP Common Errors Index Maintenance This slides decks will be followed by around 30 mins demo which will have story of geometry, geography, index internals and performance tuning. If you are interested in learning how GIS works and how SQL Server out of the box supports this wonderful tools, you will really like how the story is told. I am sure all people who attend the event will know how the Bangalore is positioned on the map of India. I will take example of Bangalore and Hyderabad and demonstrate how index can improve the performance. Well there are lots of story to tell in the session, and I will be opening this session with the beautiful script of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus created by Michael J. Swart. I will also demonstrate few real life scenario where I will be talking about Spatial Database and its usage. Do not miss this session. At the end of session there will be book awarded to best participant. My session details: Session 3: Developing with SQL Server Spatial and Deep Dive into Spatial Indexing Date: April 14, 2010 Time: 5:00pm-6:00pm Microsoft SQL Server 2008 delivers new spatial data types that enable you to consume, use, and extend location-based data through spatial-enabled applications. Attend this session to learn how to use spatial functionality in next version of SQL Server to build and optimize spatial queries. This session outlines the new geography data type to store geodetic spatial data and perform operations on it, use the new geometry data type to store planar spatial data and perform operations on it, take advantage of new spatial indexes for high performance queries, use the new spatial results tab to quickly and easily view spatial query results directly from within Management Studio, extend spatial data capabilities by building or integrating location-enabled applications through support for spatial standards and specifications and much more. • Setting the SlideShowExtender's Index

    - by Bunch
The AJAX SlideShowExtender is pretty useful. It does what it says and works without much fuss. There was one trick I needed it to perform that I could not find natively within the control. That was to set the slide’s current index. With a little JavaScript however I could make the control do what I wanted. The example below assumes a few things. First you already have a SlideShowExtender setup and working (or see this post). Second this SlideShowExtender is on a page all by itself so the index to set the slide to is passed in the URL. The scenario I had was this SSE was showing full images, the index was passed from another page that had a SSE showing thumbnails. JavaScript in <head> <script type="text/javascript">      function pageLoad() {          var slider = $find("sse");          var photoIndex = GetQuerystring('Index', 0);          slider._currentIndex = photoIndex - 1;          slider._slides = '';          slider.setCurrentImage();      }      function GetQuerystring(key, default_) {          if (default_ == null) default_ = '0';          key = key.replace(/[\[]/, "\\\[").replace(/[\]]/, "\\\]");          var regex = new RegExp("[\\?&]" + key + "=([^&#]*)");          var qs = regex.exec(window.location.href);          if (qs == null)              return default_;          else              return qs[1];      } </script> The GetQuerystring function is what grabs the Index value I pass from the page with the thumbnails. It does not have anything else to do with setting the slide index. The code in the pageLoad function sets the index on the slide_currentIndex line. The slider.setCurrentImage() line does pretty much what it says. I added the slider._slider = ‘’ to avoid an error (not a show stopper just a bit annoying). Control in <body> <cc1:SlideShowExtender ID="ssePhotos" runat="server" TargetControlID="imgFull" AutoPlay="false"          PreviousButtonID="btnPrev" NextButtonID="btnNext" SlideShowServicePath="PlacePhotos.asmx"           SlideShowServiceMethod="GetPlaceFullPhotos" BehaviorID="sse" ImageDescriptionLabelID="lblPictureDescription"> </cc1:SlideShowExtender> The main property to set with the SSE is the BehaviorID. • Speed up SQL Server Fulltext Index through Text Duplication of Non-Indexed Columns

    - by Alex
    1) I have the text fields FirstName, LastName, and City. They are fulltext indexed. 2) I also have the FK int fields AuthorId and EditorId, not fulltext indexed. A search on FirstName = 'abc' AND AuthorId = 1 will first search the entire fulltext index for 'abc', and then narrow the resultset for AuthorId = 1. This is bad because it is a huge waste of resources as the fulltext search will be performed on many records that won't be applicable. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, this can't be turned around (narrow by AuthorId first and then fulltext-search the subset that matches) because the FTS process is separate from SQL Server. Now my proposed solution that I seek feedback on: Does it make sense to create another computed column which will be included in the fulltext search which will identify the Author as text (e.g. AUTHORONE). That way I could get rid of the AuthorId restriction, and instead make it part of my fulltext search (a search for 'abc' would be 'abc' and 'AUTHORONE' - all executed as part of the fulltext search). Is this a good idea or not? Why?

  • "no inclosing instance error " while getting top term frequencies for document from Lucene index

    - by Julia
Hello ! I am trying to get the most occurring term frequencies for every particular document in Lucene index. I am trying to set the treshold of top occuring terms that I care about, maybe 20 However, I am getting the "no inclosing instance of type DisplayTermVectors is accessible" when calling Comparator... So to this function I pass vector of every document and max top terms i would like to know protected static Collection getTopTerms(TermFreqVector tfv, int maxTerms){ String[] terms = tfv.getTerms(); int[] tFreqs = tfv.getTermFrequencies(); List result = new ArrayList(terms.length); for (int i = 0; i < tFreqs.length; i++) { TermFrq tf = new TermFrq(terms[i], tFreqs[i]); result.add(tf); } Collections.sort(result, new FreqComparator()); if(maxTerms < result.size()){ result = result.subList(0, maxTerms); } return result; } /Class for objects to hold the term/freq pairs/ static class TermFrq{ private String term; private int freq; public TermFrq(String term, int freq){ this.term = term; this.freq = freq; } public String getTerm(){ return this.term; } public int getFreq(){ return this.freq; } } /*Comparator to compare the objects by the frequency*/ class FreqComparator implements Comparator{ public int compare(Object pair1, Object pair2){ int f1 = ((TermFrq)pair1).getFreq(); int f2 = ((TermFrq)pair2).getFreq(); if(f1 > f2) return 1; else if(f1 < f2) return -1; else return 0; } } Explanations and corrections i will very much appreciate, and also if someone else had experience with term frequency extraction and did it better way, I am opened to all suggestions! Please help!!!! Thanx!

  • SQL SERVER – What is Fill Factor and What is the Best Value for Fill Factor

    - by pinaldave
Working in performance tuning area, one has to know about Index and Index Maintenance. For any Index the most important property is Fill Factor. Fill factor is the value that determines the percentage of space on each leaf-level page to be filled with data. In an SQL Server, the smallest unit is a page, which is made of  Page with size 8K. Every page can store one or more rows based on the size of the row. The default value of the Fill Factor is 100, which is same as value 0. The default Fill Factor (100 or 0) will allow the SQL Server to fill the leaf-level pages of an index with the maximum numbers of the rows it can fit. There will be no or very little empty space left in the page, when the fill factor is 100. I have written following two article about Fill Factor. What is Fill factor? – Index, Fill Factor and Performance – Part 1 What is the best value for the Fill Factor? – Index, Fill Factor and Performance – Part 2 I strongly encourage read them and provide your feedback.
