  • Optimising SQL distance query

    I'm running an MySQL query that returns results based on location. However I have noticed recently that its really slowing down my PHP app. I used CodeIgniter and the profiler shows the query taking 4.2seconds. The geoname table has 500,000 rows. I have some indexes on the key columns, how else can speed up this query?   • REST API for driving distance?

    Is there a service that will give me the driving distance between two addresses? Apparently Google Maps API requires you to display a map, which I don't want to do (on that particular page), and I'd like to just snag the data and save it to my DB after a user submits a form, rather than waiting for JS to do it's thing. If it's relevant, this is going into a Django app. I discovered that CloudMade offers a Python API, which is nice, except their latest dev release has a bug in it (can't use the API object), but more importantly, it's support for Canada is awful/worthless (couldn't find directions from any major city around here!).

  • Slickgrid, confirm before edit

    I am making a slick grid and need the ability to add rows with a code column. For this to be possible the code column needs to be editable for the entire table. I am trying to work out a way that I can confirm the edit with a standard javascript confirm popup box. I tried putting one into the onedit event within the slickgrid constructor and that executed after the edit. I am led to believe that the edit function is independent from calling the edit stored procedure of the database. Is there a better way to go about this?   • JQuery JEditable stay in edit mode on error

    I'm successfully using jeditable to submit via a function using jQuery.ajax and the async : false option , but am having an issue aborting if an error is returned. How can I get the edit box to stay activated and / or revert back to the original value if there are errors? I'm returning http status codes. so something like async : false .ajax submit here... if (xhr.status == 200) { return value; else { alert ('returned error'); // keep edit box activated but available for another try, or revert back to original value } I tried not returning a value from the function, which keeps the edit box activated and ready for another submit, but then the ESC key doesn't work anymore and if I click outside the edit area, the edit box stays.     I have a form that posts back to /Edit/ and my action in controller looks like this: // // POST: /Client/Edit [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(Client client) My form includes a subset of Client entity properties and I also include a hidden field that holds an ID of the client. The client entity itself is provided via the GET Edit action. Now I want to do entity update but so far I've only been trying without first loading the entity from the DB. Because the client object that comes in POST Edit has everything it needs. I want to update just those properties on the entity in datastore. So far I've tried with Context.Refresh() and AttachTo() but with no success - I'm getting all sorts of exceptions. I inspected the entity object as it comes from the web form and it looks fine (it does have an ID and entered data) mapped just fine. If I do it with Context.SaveChanges() then it just inserts new row..

  • Show Add button after Edit button is clicked?

    I have a view with navigation bar control on the top. The view is in the second level with a "back" button is displayed on the left by default. In my view class, I added a default navigation edit button on the right: self.navigationbarItem.rightButtonItem = self.editButtonItem; with this line of code, an edit button is on the right side, and when it is clicked, the view (table view) becomes editable with delete mark on the left for each row. After that, the edit button's caption becomes "done". All those are done by the default edit button built in the navigation control, I think. I would like to add an add button the left, or replace "back" button when edit is clicked. I guess I have to implement some kind of delegate in my view class. This would provide a place to plug in my code to add the add button on the left when edit button is clicked, and to restore "back" button back when the done button is clicked. If so, what's the delegate? Or is there any other way to achieve it?

    I have a gridview with edit option at the start of the row. Also I maintain a seperate table called Permission where I maintain user permissions. I have three different types of permissions like Admin, Leads, Programmers. These all three will have access to the gridview. Except admin if anyone tries to edit the gridview on clicking the edit option, I need to give an alert like This row has important validation and make sure you make proper changes. When I edit, the action with happen on table called Application. The table has a column called Comments. Also the alert should happen only when they try to edit rows where the Comments column have these values in them.     I have a set of trajectories, made up of points along the trajectory, and with the coordinates associated with each point. I store these in a 3d array ( trajectory, point, param). I want to find the set of r trajectories that have the maximum accumulated distance between the possible pairwise combinations of these trajectories. My first attempt, which I think is working looks like this: max_dist = 0 for h in itertools.combinations ( xrange(num_traj), r): for (m,l) in itertools.combinations (h, 2): accum = 0. for ( i, j ) in itertools.izip ( range(k), range(k) ): A = [ (my_mat[m, i, z] - my_mat[l, j, z])**2 \ for z in xrange(k) ] A = numpy.array( numpy.sqrt (A) ).sum() accum += A if max_dist < accum: selected_trajectories = h This takes forever, as num_traj can be around 500-1000, and r can be around 5-20. k is arbitrary, but can typically be up to 50. Trying to be super-clever, I have put everything into two nested list comprehensions, making heavy use of itertools: chunk = [[ numpy.sqrt((my_mat[m, i, :] - my_mat[l, j, :])**2).sum() \ for ((m,l),i,j) in \ itertools.product ( itertools.combinations(h,2), range(k), range(k)) ]\ for h in itertools.combinations(range(num_traj), r) ] Apart from being quite unreadable (!!!), it is also taking a long time.   • Can't edit an account in MySQL Administrator on OS X

    I'm running MySQL 5.5.20 on OS X 10.6.8. Using MySQL Administrator 1.2.12 (the latest) I am unable to edit any accounts. After successfully connecting to the database in MySQL Administrator, I go the Account tab, expand a user, and it just says "Loading...". It will stay on "Loading..." indefinitely. The symptoms are almost identical to user's experience and this MySQL bug from 2006, which has since been closed (fixed?). If I create a user and grant permissions to a schema, I get the error "Could not save changes to the use", which came up in 2005 as a bug (now closed). How do I edit MySQL accounts using MySQL Administrator?

  • SharePoint Item Edit Form (editform.aspx) keeps closing webparts - MOSS 2007

    We have a custom list within MOSS 2007 which sporadically closes the edit forms web part, despite the fact that the web parts property 'allow close' is unticked. The only way to make the form work again is to edit the page in SharePoint Designer and untick the option of 'web part closed', this then allows the form to function but at a seemingly random interval it will close itself again. There is quite a large user base accessing the site/list at anyone time, also note this has happened once on another list on another site collection. Has anyone else experienced this issue before or can offer any advice?

  • How to edit multilevel list in Word 2011 Mac

    I use the multilevel list feature in Word as described here to set up proper nested numbering linked to styles. I did this on Windows, and it worked well. Now I am editing the documents on my Mac using Word 2011. I need to modify the list style; I can create a new multi-level list style from the toolbar dropdown, but I can't right-click to edit an existing one. How can I edit my existing list style on Word for Mac? Thanks

  • Sharepoint 2007: Edit vs Read Only Mode

    Sorry about the title, dont' really know what it should be. If I open a doc in read only mode I'm able to press save and then it opens up a save as box and the default directory is the directory on the sharepoint server and if you press save you save it to the server. This actually makes the whole process not really "read only" mode since I could actually update the document. Is there a way to prevent this from happening so that if someone chooses read only there is no way possible to updload any changes back to the sharepoint site? Also, it has been suggested as a solution to get rid of the edit/read only option so that people have to check out the document. Is there a way to remove the edit/read only option on documents?

I expect to get the following date: ls -ltr /etc/some_file -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 188 Jul 1 2010 sysstat but the date & time of this file must be not change ! I just want to edit file but I Wondering how to change the file without effect on the date & time of the file - is it possible ?

  • How can I edit files directly from find results

    Let's say, I want to replace one string with another. Normally I use TextMate, but today, I don't remember why, I decided to run the search in Sublime Text 2 (which I installed some time ago, but haven't used since). I was impressed with "Find Results" window, seems more useful that textmate's. Then I tried to edit text right inside that window and (I can swear on my macbook) it worked (I was able to commit those changes to git repo)! I thought then, "Wow, that's a really nice feature. Should I migrate from TM already?". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reproduce this behaviour later. I can still edit text in "find results" window, but changes don't persist (that is, original files are not touched). Am I doing something wrong now, or was it caffeine-induced hallucination earlier in the day?

  • Batch edit (not rename) file properties in windows

    I have a large directory of downloaded shareware. I keep track of what i have by individually editing the properties of each program. However, some of the programs are multipart .rar types. And i have at least a few hundred programs so far. I am looking for a utility that will let me batch edit file properties such as Title, Author, Summary, and Comments, so I don't have to edit each file or file part individually. Windows doesn't let me do this in Explorer. Powerdesk has a proprietary system, but it isn't preserved when moving or copying files. Any Suggestions?

  • MP4 video - edit audio track

    I have recorded some nice sport videos with mz GoPro HD action camera. I would like to edit the audio track. I dont want to get rid of the whole audio track - just erase small parts (e.g. compression artifacts or me saying some swearwords). When the original audio track is cleansed, Id add another music layer in FCE afterwards. I'd really like to edit the audio like in a WaveLab etc. Any ideas?

    Editing Question for Clarity Thanks for feedback so far, very insightful. I'm not sure how far along this part of the software community is, and what if any libraries exist for me to leverage from. Heres what I'm trying to do. Problem: Take an existing video of a game of rugby league. The Rugby League field is 100 metres long, 70 metres wide, and has white line markings every 10 metres running along the width of the field, as well as along the sidelines. Each side has 13 players on the field. Players on each team have identical jerseys that normally constrast strongly against background colours (green/brown field colour) and the referee's colour (usually yellow) and the designated water runner (orange). All players have a unique number in thick white lettering on their backs for identification. Video is taken with a high definition camera. Currently only one camera is used (2D) and existing video does not contain a foreground object of fixed spatial dimensions (as suggested in one answer for comparision measurements, however I could add this to future filming sessions if it is worthwhile). The player's do not run in a straight line 50% of the time but will go sideways on on a diagonal to the play the ball. The distance measured always starts from the spot of the previous "tackle", which ends where the player stops forward movement. It is not always possible to determine the players number from the video (facing other direction, sunlight, others standing in the way of the camera). But this isn't important as the software could allow for manual inputting of unknown "runs" at a later point after analysis. Determine the distance between two points (i.e. where the player started his "run" and where he finished it). I'm guessing that this would be quite doable if I manually marked the start and end point in the video. But how would I use landmarks in the background to determine the distance (assuming the person taking the video has kept it from jerking around). Question: Do software packages or libraries exist that are specialised enough to assist with writing analysis software to determine a sports persons distance travelled based on video taken of the performance?
