  If I'm working within a single powershell console, and say I want to spawn another powershell console window. Is there a way to do this? If you type "powershell" at the prompt - it doesn't launch a new window, just starts a new powershell instance within the current console window. Any thoughts?

  I am working on an open-source missile launcher application. I have added a big red button to a Form that says "Launch Missile". When I click the button, the event handler gets called. From the event handler I call a method named LaunchMissile(). So far so good, but how do you launch a missile from C# code? Will I have to write this code myself or is there an API or third party library for launching missiles? Please add sample code for various launch scenarios: orbit, moon, mars, etc.

I'm trying to make an automatic tool to create Local Users and then launch the associate RDP session. I've already made LocalUser creation and adding them to Remote Desktop Users (using net.exe). But I'm struck with the next step : create and launch user's rdp-session. I don't know how to handle this problem without having the Remote Desktop Client Gui.   90% of the time I am unable to launch osk.exe from a 32bit process on Win7 x64. Originally the code was just using: Process.Launch("osk.exe"); Which won't work on x64 because of the directory virtualization. Not a problem I thought, I'll just disable virtualization, launch the app, and enable it again, which I thought was the correct way to do things.   I'm thinking about customizing my Windows 7's application icons, so that they all follow a specific theme (Token-like icons). This would involve using Resource Hacker (or similar) to patch each .exe. Not only this would be tiresome, but also it would require doing it again at each update of each application (nevermind that some could break just because it was tampered with). Instead, is there any way to launch an application with a specific icon? Ideally it would be something from the command-line (so I can make a shortcut), like this: launchwithicon.exe --app C:\myapp.exe --icon C:\myicon.ico Note that while it is possible to do something similar by setting the taskbar to "always combine, hide labels", I do not like this approach and instead am looking for something that works without combining the taskbar icons.

• Mac - Run java program at launch

  I want to launch a java program (server program) at computer start up. I can run it from the command line perfectly. I created /Library/Server/startFS.sh. The file is executable by root and contains: cd /Library/Server/FiloSync /usr/bin/java -jar /Library/Server/FiloSync/filosync-server-latest.jar -p 7000 -s 7001 I can't get my launchd plist included here, the formatting is all off. I can run it fine from the command line: './startFS.sh' but when I put create the plist (via Lingon), nothing happens. Now, when run, it outputs a few lines to the console. Might that be problem?? I have tried prepending 'nohup' and post pending '&', but no combination seems to work. Help please.

  I would like to use the unity option in ubuntu but without the unity sidebar. I've seen how I can select to use just gnome from the login screen but there are some things I like about the unity interface. E.g. From what I've seen I like the integrated application menu with the ubuntu menu up the top that unity option comes with. So I really just want to turn the launch bar off. • Can't launch Oneiric x64 instance on Eucalyptus

  EDIT: after many hours, I've found out that the problem has nothing to do with Eucalyptus. It looks like the image is buggy. Very, very buggy. More details in the end. I didn't manage to fix it, and I will file a bug. EDIT 2: I managed to fix it, it apparently works. I have a 4-machine cluster running Ubuntu Server Natty (11.04) x64. I've installed "Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud" from the installtion CD (then updated it) on each of these machines. The cloud seems to work fine, I have lots of virtual machines running Natty servers on them. Now I'd like to run Oneiric in a virtual machine, but somehow I can't. I downloaded Oneiric's (x64) image from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/oneiric/current/, published it (uec-publish-tarball oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64.tar.gz oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64) exactly as I did with Natty, then tried to launch an instance (euca-run-instances -n 1 -k my-key -t m1.small -z my-cloud emi-XXXXXXXX) using Oneiric's image, but the instance is not able to boot. Very, very buggy. The first problem is that the Kernel in the image is a -generic kernel, while I suppose it should be a -virtual one. I chrooted into the image, removed the -generic packages, replaced it with the -virtual ones. Then I extracted the new kernel (and replaced the original one (-generic) that came with the tarball) because I need it when I publish and launch an image with Eucalyptus. The problem described above was solved. But then, the console started showing this: mount: mount point ext4 does not exist If you check the /etc/fstab file in the image, it says: LABEL=cloudimg-rootfs ext4 defaults 0 1 Damnt, where's my mount point? Note that it is missing /proc as well. Well, when you think it is over, you will notice that your instance will have no network connectivity. Let's check /etc/network/interface: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback Oh my! It is missing eth0... here I stopped. I can't take no more. I give up. Looks like Canonical has just forgotten to properly set up this image. At first, I though: "have I downloaded a server image by mistake?", but no, I double checked. It is really the cloud image, it has even "cloud-init" installed (which is not, by default, on server images). They just forgot to prepare it. I will file a bug (and reference it here once this is done), and hope they fix it soon! EDIT 2: it looks like the network configuration was the last thing missing. I decided to test it with the fixes above, and it booted properly! However, I haven't got the slightest idea if the image is now good to go...

I need to define my own hosts as my environment does not support multicast of any kind. I understand that my options are: 1) supply hosts when elasticsearch is run as a command line parameter 2) modify my elasticsearch.yml file to set the hosts. The network settings I have on LinuxUbuntu VM is : Adapter1 : attached to Bridge adapter. I tried NAT as well. But nothing seems to work. I am not in China. I provide google.com as mere example. We have a test website which cannot be launched inside Linux Ubuntu.

• Launch apps or run commands on Windows via shortcuts

  Is it possible to register shortcuts on Windows 7 so that regardless where you are looking (Desktop, a folder etc) the shortcut gets "heard" and the appropriate action is performed. For example, creating a shortcut in the System32 folder which will work if you use Run with the shortcut's name, will not work if you set a key combination when focus is set on the Desktop for example. Is there a native way of registering top-level shortcuts or even an application for enabling this? Example of things I want keyboard shortcuts for: open a specific folder like %path% create a new .js file in the current folder launch an application eventually with its path set to the current location if the app supports this (e.g. command prompt) Thank you.

  I'm running a few linux desktops; mainly for kids (yeah, trying to teach them the right OS at early stage) (running Ubuntu 10.10, Gnome) The problem is that they found very funny to make their workstations (actually, old 512 Mb pentium 4) by launching thousands of firefox instances. I'm looking for a way to restrict them to launch 'N' instances of a particular application. Haven't figured yet how. Thought of a monitoring daemon but I think that would be too ressources hungry. Any idea of a script/trick to achieve this ? Note: i might have 1-2 level of users (the kids, and the more grown up kids) so i have also to limit per user; something like user1: 3firefox, user2: 2firefox instances.

  We have an application we have developed, it gets deployed via an MSI I built. The MSI has been used in many locations, on many different builds. On one customers site, on occasion we are seeing some odd occurrences of data from the registry going missing. The 'data' from some select registry keys disappears and we have little idea why. One interesting point is that the MSI installer for our application has been seen in passive mode during OS load / load of our application on stat-up. The MSI loads a progress bar then disappears, following this our application loads up. It has been noted that following this the data disappears from our registry. However I can't say these two events are absolutely linked, it could have been missing before this event. What causes the MSI for an application to launch way after initial installation. How can it be prevented (correctly)

  Can anyone suggest a software tool (preferably under Windows XP or later) that would launch an application or script in response to a phone call being received on a landline phone line connected to a data modem on the same PC? or, better, in response to a sequence of touch-tones being played over such a phone line. This would allow, for example, using the telephone to manipulate firewall settings so as to create another layer of security in connection with remote internet access to that computer. I seem to recall seeing tools to do this sort of thing in the days before broadband internet access, when there was more attention to various tips and tricks for the dial-up modem, but a few attempts at Google hasn't turned anything up.

After I start up the Ubuntu VM, I have to go to a terminal window and do this to start MySql: /etc/init.d/mysql start So that works fine, but, since I am such a GUI person, I’m wondering how I can create an icon on the Ubuntu Desktop that I can click on to launch this command.   My Windows XP computer is exhibiting strange behaviour, launching multiple browser windows, but not to any URL. Initially this was in Firefox, but when I uninstalled it the same happened in IE. Norton 360 detects no malware, and I wonder if there is some application that is accidentally causing the problem. I'd like to diagnose the problem further. It seems that the default browser is being launched by something, so I'd like to work out the culprit. Is there any way to launch an application without a main activity declared? If the answer is no, then I have a follow up, can the MAIN action be removed from the application at runtime after launch so that the app no longer has a MAIN activity after launch?
