• How to programmatically launch a chromecast app from command line

  I want to launch a Chromecast app but NOT using the chrome extension or iOS or Android. Doing this from command line. I noticed that you can send a POST to your chromecast, and it will launch an app. For example if I do curl -H “Content-Type: application/json” http://CHROMECAST_IP:8008/apps/YouTube -X POST -d ‘v=oHg5SJYRHA0' Then it will start up youtube. But for some reason I can't do this with custom apps (in dev mode). I thought I'd be able to send a POST to http://CHROMECAST_IP:8008/apps/MY_REGISTERED_APP_ID, but no luck. I just get a 404 response. Hmmm... My app is just a simple webpage (it is not streamed media). I want to run a little headless server that starts my chromecast app everyday via a CRON task. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

  Glassfish v3 is launched as follows: ./bin/asadmin start-domain <domain-name> This script eventually runs: exec "$JAVA" -jar "$AS_INSTALL_LIB/admin-cli.jar" "$@" admin-cli.jar eventually launches another process, effectively putting itself into the background. I would like to launch glassfish without putting itself in the background for the purpose of monitoring with daemontools (ie: svc). Is this possible? The documentation talks about using inittab here which seems like it would also require a way to launch it without forking or backgrounding so some other process (eg: inittab, evc, etc.) can watch the process id and restart it if it crashes. However, in this inittab example, is it using the same backgrounding cmd line, so I don't know how inittab can possibly respawn the process when it doesn't know what process id to watch. Am I missing something?

  I'm writing an NSIS installer and the setup program elevates "as administrator" as needed on Windows 7 / vista. I need to run the installed program at the end of the install and don't want to launch it with the same privileges as the installer. The regular NSIS exec commands run the child process with the same permissions as the installer. There is a UAC plugin for NSIS, but the documentation on it isn't great and it seems v. new; I'd prefer not to use that plugin. Ideally, I'm looking for a small .exe I can include that'll launch the target program without UAC elevation. Does this exist? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

  Hi. I want to launch my own media player application when I want to watch a video from Youtube. When I write android:scheme="http" and android:host="m.youtube.com" it is OK. But, it asks everywhere in m.youtube.com to open my app. So, it gets annoying. I tried to use pathPattern, pathPrefix and path to solve this but I didn't get ahead. All I want is clearly this: When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F%gl=US#" the intent filter shouldn't launch my app. When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=k3Cdqx1qFX8" my application should be launched. Is there anyone that can help me?

  Hi, As the title says, I want to know if it is be possible to automatically launch a PHP script when a restart of apache is done. thanks MORE INFO EDIT: I will try to explain what is the purpose of this, the best I can. We are currently refactoring our application and we'll be stuck with 2 differents configuration file system for the time being, until all of the application flows are refactored (might take more than a year). The old one is using simple flat file in the key=value format (i.e. www.conf), while the new system will use cacheable php files (i.e. www.php). We need to replicate to www.php any config changes made in www.config. Since Apache gets restarted whenever there is a config change in www.conf, I thought it might be a good workaround solution to launch a PHP script, that would replicate the www.conf to www.php.

• Vim plugin only works when file is provided as arg to launch command

  I am using the plugin java_getset.vim. The issue is that the plugin's commands are only available when I launch vim with the file as an argument. user@machine~: vim myfile.java If launch vim and use command-t or NerdTree to open the file in a buffer the plugin's commands are not accessible. All the filetype detection stuff is configured and working(I have syntax highlighting and indentation). The plugin source appears to be written to the letter according the the vim docs for a filetype plugin. Can anyone help me understand what changes a can make so that I can use this plugin in conjunction with Command-t?

  Hi, I want to make an android application that shows a listing of applications (downloaded from the android market) and launches the one that the user selects. From what I've read, I'd have to use intents like this: Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.setClassName(packageName, className); startActivity(intent); I just want to be able to launch the applications, not a specific activity that they could have. My question is: how could I launch these applications if I don't know their packageName or className? or maybe, how could I get to know their className and packageName, if it's a closed source application that I didn't develop.   I have a logon script that I want to be run when users login to remote desktop on my WinServer2008r2 box. I know I can do this client-side (in the RemoteDesktopClient "Run Program" options) but would rather it be enforced server-side. If I assign the logon script to a GPO, the script will be run whenever the user logs into their local PC. I would like to assign the logon script to the Remote Desktop Users group, but only when they're logging into remote desktop, not when they're logging into their own system. Thoughts?

• Can't launch glassfish on ec2 - can't open port

  I'm trying to start glassfish on an EBS-based AMI of Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. I have used glassfish on non-ec2 servers with no problems, but on ec2 I get this message: $ sudo -u glassfish bin/asadmin start-domain domain1 There is a process already using the admin port 4848 -- it probably is another instance of a GlassFish server. Command start-domain failed. I know that ec2 has requires that firewall rules be modified using ec2-authorize to let outside traffic thru the firewall, as I had to do to make ssh work. This still doesn't explain the port error when all I'm trying to do is start glassfish so I can try $ wget localhost:8080and make sure it's working. This is very frustrating and I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks. FINAL UPDATE: Sorry if you came here looking for answers. I never figured out what was causing the problem. I created another fresh instance, installed the same stuff, and Glassfish worked perfectly. Something obviously got boned during installation, but I have no idea what. I guess it will remain a mystery.   I am using Webkit nightly build revision 110829 on Ubuntu 11.10. I successfully build it. Here is what I did: In the Webkit directory I run: Tools/Scripts/build-webkit --gtk Built succeeded. I tried running it by typing: Tools/Scripts/run-safari --gtk But nothing happens. I mean, the command just did not show anything. Anyone has any idea? For someone who vote down: Like I said, when I run Tools/Scripts/run-safari --gtk nothing happens. So if anyone has any idea how to run it properly please tell me.   I've got a SHELL script which is using a pipe to separate my 2 commands: ssh -oBatchMode=yes user@hostname "mysql -u yop -pyop -c yop | echo test" The problem is even if my connection to mysql doesn't work, it send the echo test. I would like to forbid my script to send any command if the previous command doesn't work. I search with a if condition but it seems it not possible with it :( Does anyone have an idea ? • MDT 2010 Litetouch.vbs Fails to Launch

  I have the custom image captured. Import the image and files. Prepare the customsettings.ini and the boot.ini to minimize the questions the deployment team will need to answer. Everything works like a charm on virtual machines but when I map to the scripts folder on the deployment share and double-click litetouch.vbs it creates the c:\minint folder, subfolders, and a couple of log files then nothing. • Can't Launch Firefox on OS X 10.6

  When I try to run Firefox 3.6 or 4 beta I get a message saying: Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I have tried running the profile manger from the command line using: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -ProfileManager I get the same message in the popup, but I also get: Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory. I have tried deleting firefox and reinstalling it. I have also tried deleting anything related to Firefox or Mozilla in the ~/Library/Application Support directories, but nothing seems to help. In addition I have run the disk utility to fix any permissions issues. If I create a new profile or run the command with sudo it works. It seem that that Firefox is trying to put the profile somewhere it doesn't have access to write, but I can't figure out how to change this location or change the permissions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It turns out the program had opened up its own webserver on the client's machine as soon as Apache went down and in the process made it impossible for the client, a large provider of business software, to restart its proper website." http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/07/24/teamviewer_snafu/ I started using TeamViewer recently because it's just much better than UltraVNC (runs on both XP and Vista, the server dials out instead of requiring the user to open a port on their router + better performance than UVNC)... but I thought that TeamViewer had both the server and client connect out to TV's web server for data to flow between the two hosts. Why does TV even need to open a web server on the server host? Thank you.

• Fabric doesn't launch Nginx remotely

  I want to be able to start and stop an nginx server on an Ubuntu EC2 instance with Fabric. I have this two scripts in my fabfile.py: def start_nginx(): sudo('/etc/init.d/nginx start') #also tried this: run('sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start') def stop_nginx(): sudo('/etc/init.d/nginx stop') The start_nginx() seemingly runs without errors (* Starting Nginx Server.../ ...done.) but doesn't start the server (or it dies immediately). If I SSH into the instance this starts nginx perfectly: sudo /etc/init.d/nginx start The stop_nginx() Fabric script stops the server remotely. I compiled nginx from source, using this http://nginx.org/download/nginx-1.1.9.tar.gz and using this script in /etc/init.d: https://github.com/JasonGiedymin/nginx-init-ubuntu/blob/master/nginx. The only thing I modified is this line: DAEMON=/usr/local/sbin/nginx to DAEMON=/usr/sbin/nginx because that's the path I used when I ./configure-d my compile. Does anyone have any idea why the init script behaves differently being called from Fabric?

• I can't launch any Win8 apps after upgrading to Windows 8.1

  I just upgraded to 8.1 and now none of the Metro apps start. The issue is that if I start any metro app, including the Store and PC Settings they immediately fail. The classic desktop is fine, as are standard programs, it's just the metro apps. If I look in the system event log I see errors like this: *Activation of application winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: This application does not support the contract specified or is not installed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.* In addition the tiles in metro have a small cross icon on them: I suspect that my Live ID (which I somehow managed to skip during update) is not set properly and consequently none of the online stuff works. But how do I fix this? I can't start PC settings, I can't start store. I see no way in the classic desktop of setting these things. I don't want to have to reinstall for this. Is there a simple fix?

  I just installed postgresql, php5 and in particular PhpPgAdmin using Ubuntu's synaptic app. The PHP is running fine, the http server (lighttpd) is working fine, and I can do pg a the command line. The only thing that remains a mystery is PhpPgAdmin - just how does one fire it up to use it? I am clueless about the proper means of starting PhpPgAdmin; it isn't explained anywhere on the site for it. I tried typing phppgadmin at a bash command prompt, and entering "http://phppgsdmin/" and "http://localhost/phppgadmin" as wild guesses in the address bar in a browser - nothing happens. What is the secret? BTW, i'm only serving http on localhost, doing purely private web development.

  I have Windows Server 2008 R2 with RDS and custom desktop (GUI) application installed on the server. The app is started as RemoteApp on server by user from his desktop computer (or, sometimes, he can work from notebook over VPN). Some details about environment: the server automatically shuts down every evening and automatically power-on every morning (this is a requirement) desktop application do some precalculations/precaching on startup and it can take lot of time mentioned application have some memory leaks, so I can't use hibernate instead of shutdown When user launching this app from his computer, he can't start work with it until this app finishes pre-initialization. Is there any way to start RemoteApp session at the server startup (without actual user logon), so that the user could connect to this session from his computer later? I don't want to involve the user's computer to make it work. I have tried to do it by Windows startup script, but have no luck - starting RDP session requires actual user session.

I want to run program test.exe located at C:\data\test.exe and to use dir.   I was able to install and run nginx, and passenger but i'm not able to have nginx come up whenever i reboot my server. To start the nginx process i just type in sudo /opt/nginx/sbin/nginx. From my understanding anything i put in /etc/init.d with ubuntu hardy will be execute. Does anyone know the command that will mimic this command line call? sudo /opt/nginx/sbin/nginx

• Adding SSL to Heroku site post launch

  I have a rails API that I want to deploy on Heroku. $20/month for a SSL site on heroku is a little steep given I am not earning anything out of this app yet. I am after advice and wondering if it is possible to add SSL sometime in the future? This is for a iOS app that I'm writing. Basically the idea would be that I continue to use https://myapp.heroku.com through their piggyback SSL. Once I get some cash in, I want to transition to using https://www.myapp.com. At this point the API would still need to work for app users who haven't upgraded to a new version of the app that points to the new domain. Anyone know if this is possible? Would both URLs continue to work? My gut feeling tells me this is not possible. Any advice would help. Thanks!

• Word 2007 "Out of Memory or Disk Space" Error on launch

  Word 2007 is installed on a Vista Home Premium machine and whenever it starts up it opens what appears to be a dynamic installer to do something and then throws up the "Out of Memory or Disk Space" error. Word 2007 never completes starting up. Reinstalling Word hasn't helped and if I can avoid reinstalling Windows until Windows 7 is released and get Word working in the mean time, that would be ideal. I've been looking around for a solution, once of which seemed to point to a problem with the user account. I created a second user on the machine and Word still had the same problem. The other solution that seems possible is a corrupted normal.dot/normal.dotm file. However, even in the location it should be, I can't seem to find it. Am I going in the right direction with this? Is there another solution I haven't come across that will fix this? If it is possible that renaming normal.dot/normal.dotm how can I find it?
