  • cpufreq-selector, cpufreq-info reporting wrong max speed

    Hi, I've just built a new machine with a Core i5-760 CPU. Max speed is 2.80GHz (turbo mode notwithstanding). I've also done a vanilla install of Ubuntu 10.10. I've added the cpufreq-selector applet to the top panel, and its menus only allow me to select up to 2.39GHz.   • jquery selector for elements beside one another? [migrated]

    this SHOULD be simple, but I have been through the Jquery Selector help for about an hour now and nothing seems to be working. Help! I am basically trying to pull the text (an address) of a SPAN after a user clicks on the link next to it. Please note though, I will have about 10 on a page, so I cannot set a static address. It must be pulled when the user clicks. The html code: <a href="3" class="clicky">Click to Show Map</a> <span style="display: none" class="theaddy">123 Fake Street, Somewhere Else, 12341</span> So really, my question is, how do I grab the text from .theaddy when a user clicks on .clicky? As I said, I cannot use var propertyaddy = $(.theaddy).text(); because there are 10 of these addy's on the same page. I need some sort of "THIS" Next To kinda thing. I also tossed around the idea of placing the SPAN inside the A, but my efforts on that weren't working either. Thank you in advance for any help!

  • Accessing Instance Variables from NSTimer selector

    Firstly newbie question: What's the difference between a selector and a method? Secondly newbie question (who would have thought): I need to loop some code based on instance variables and pause between loops until some condition (of course based on instance variables) is met. I've looked at sleep, I've looked at NSThread. In both discussions working through those options many asked why don't I use NSTimer, so here I am. Ok so it's simple enough to get a method (selector? ) to fire on a schedule. Problem I have is that I don't know how to see instance variables I've set up outside the timer from within the code NSTimer fires. I need to see those variables from the NSTimer selector code as I 1) will be updating their values and 2) will set labels based on those values. Here's some code that shows the concept… eventually I'd invalidate the timers based on myVariable too, however I've excluded that for code clarity.   • Software Center won't take into account my changed OpenID name: any idea?

    Failing to install IntelliJ from the Software Center, I realized my login is wrong in the /etc/apt/auth.conf entry that the install process generates. In this file, I see my original OpenID, that's the one which got automatically generated when signing up on Launchpad. It contains my last name so I changed it. I purged conf and binaries for Ubuntu One, reinstalled, deleted all listed "Devices" from app, all "Applications" from Launchpad. Deleted ~/.cache/software-center/, reboot, but still: When installing IntelliJ, the auth.conf file receives my original OpenID, not the modified one Problem is that the commercial subscription, for IntelliJ private PPA, uses my modified OpenID, so authentication attempt fails. I can't remove nor modify this subscription, even by changing back my OpenID into Launchpad. Any idea to solve this?

The page at http://code.google.com/googleapps/marketplace/sso.html does not have a python openid apps-discovery library which seems to be the stumbling block.     Per my SO question here, which has turned to jquery to solve this, but which may be worked back into YUI if I get my thinking straight, I need a selector to exclude descendents. I'm doing it this way: NavigationTreeActionHandler* handler=[NavigationTreeActionHandler self]; NavigationTreeNode* bombsNode=new NavigationTreeNode("Bombs","bigbomb.tif" ,handler,@selector(BigBombButtonPressed:)); I need to pass to NavigationTreeNode the target and the selector to the target method. I try to get the target using the self property of the class object (Don't know if htis is the correct way to do it). Then I get the selector for the class method I want to call on the class. Everything compiles ok but it fails when I use: [[handler class] instanceMethodSignatureForSelector:selector]; I get a nil and don't really know why... could anybody help please?   • Authentication for users on a Single Page App?

    I have developed a single page app prototype that is using Backbone on the front end and going to consume from a thin RESTful API on the server for it's data. Coming from heavy server side application development (php and python), I have really enjoyed the new different design approach with a thick client side MVC but am confused on how best to restrict the app to authenticated users who log in. I prefer to have the app itself behind a login and would also like to implement other types of logins eventually (openid, fb connect, etc) in addition to the site's native login. I am unclear how this is done and have been searching - but unsuccessful in finding information that made it clear to me. In the big picture, what is the current best practice for registering users and requiring them to login to use your single page app? Once a user is logged in, how are the api requests authenticated? Can I store a session but how do I detect for this session in the API calls? Any answers to this would be much appreciated!

I'm following a tuto from codrops to visually filter works with only css3 (http://tympanus.net/codrops/2012/01/09/filter-functionality-with-css3/). There, user can select which category want to see with some <input type="radio">'s. But those selectors are under the same container (a <section>) and give visibility for the elements via CSS using a general sibling combinator (~).   • OnClickListener onClick=true and selector

    I have not found any answer for my problem, so I need your help ... I have an LinearLayout which I want to be clickable in order to lunch another activity. So I implement an onClickListener to it. I created an selector for this LinearLayout in order that what someone click on it, the background change. I just don't understand that : If my LinearLayout doesn't have android:clickable="true" in the xml, I'm able to click on it and get what I want but the selector doesn't work. If I remove this line, it is the opposite .. the selector work but not the onClick event. So, can anyone can explain me why ?   • Ubuntu 12.10 MBR not loading from dual boot selector

    Since I am new to the forums here I cannot post pictures, but hopefully this link to my error screen will work. Error when selecting to boot the Ubuntu mbr Basically no matter what I do, windows boot manager wants to load windows and windows only. I tried running from my hard drive and also from a USB drive that had live installed. Both times I ended up with this message. I am running windows 7 with all the newest updates, on a Samsung series 7 Laptop. I have had many dual boot machines in the past and never seen this issue. I even had a dual booting windows 7 machine a few months ago and had no issues at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Justin

  • JQuery and the multiple date selector

    Overview I recently needed to build a web page that would allow a user to capture some information and most importantly select multiple dates. This functionality was core to the application and hence had to be easy and quick to do. This is a public facing website so it had to be intuitive and very responsive. On the face of it it didn't seem too hard, I know enough juery to know what it is capable of and I was pretty sure that there would be some plugins that would help speed things along the way. I'm using ASP.Net MVC for this project as I really like the control that it gives you over the generated html and javascript. After years of Web Forms development it makes me feel like a web developer again and puts a smile on my face, that can only be a good thing!   The Calendar The first item that I needed on this page was a calender and I wanted the ability to: have the calendar be always visible select/deselect multiple dates at the same time bind to the select/deselect event so that I could update a seperate listing of the selected dates allow the user to move to another month and still have the calender remember any dates in the previous month I was hoping that there was a jQuery plugin that would meet my requirements and luckily there was! The jQuery datepicker does everything I want and there is quite a bit of documentation on how to use it. It makes use of a javascript date library date.js which I had not come across before but has a number of very useful date utilities that I have used elsewhere in the project. As you can see from the image there still needs to be some styling done! But there will be plenty of time for that later. The calendar clearly shows which dates the user has selected in red and i also make use of an unordered list to show the the selected dates so the user can always clearly see what has been selected even if they move to another month on the calendar. The ones I am particularly interested in are selectedDate and state. State tells me whether the user has selected or deselected the date passed in the selectedDate parameter. The <ul> that I am using to show the date has an id of dateList and this is what I will be adding and removing <li> items from. To make things a little more logical for the user I decided that the date should be sorted in chronological order, this means that each time a new date is selected it need to be placed in the correct position in the list. One way to do this would be just to append a new <li> to the list and then sort the whole list. However the approach I took was to get an array of all the items in the list var listitems = ('#dateList').children('li').get(); and then check the value of each item in the array against my new date and as soon as I found the case where the new date was less than the current item remember that position in the list as this is where I would insert it later. To make this work easily I decided to store a numeric representation of each date in the list in the id attribute of each <li> element. Fortunately javascript natively stores dates as the number of milliseconds since 1 Jan 1970. var dateInMillisecs = selectedDate.valueOf(); Please note that this is the value of the date in UTC! I always like to store dates in UTC as I learnt a long time ago that it saves a lot of refactoring at a later date... When I convert the dates back to their original back on the server I will need the UTC offset that was used when calculating the dates, this and how to actually serialise the dates and get them posted back will be the subject of another post.

  • css - use universal '*' selector vs. html or body selector?

    Applying styles to the body tag will be applied to the whole page, so body { font-family: Verdana } will be applied to the whole page. This could also be done with * {font-family: Verdana} which would apply to all elements and so would seem to have the same effect. I understand the principle that in the first instance the style is being applied to one tag, body for the whole page whereas in the second example the font is being applied against each individual html elements. What I am asking is what is the practical difference in doing that, what are the implications and what is a reason, situation or best practice that leads to using one over another. One side-effect is certainly speed (+1 Rob). I am most interested in the actual reason to choose one over the other in terms of functionality.

  • Authlogic, logout, credential capture and security

    Ok this is something weird. I got authlogic-oid installed in my rails app today. Everything works perfectly fine but for one small nuisance. This is what i did: I first register with my google openid. Successful login, redirection and my email, along with my correct openid is stored in my database. I am happy that everything worked fine! Now when i logout, my rails app as usual destroys the session and redirects me back to my root url where i can login again. Now if i try to login it still remembers my last login id. Not a big issue as i can always "Sign in as a different user" but i am wondering if there is anyway to not only logout from my app but also logout from google. I noticed the same with stack overflow's openid authentication system. Why am i so bothered about this, you may ask. But is it not a bad idea if your web apps end user, who happens to be in a cyber cafe, thinks he has logged out from your app and hence from his google account only to realize later that his google account had got hacked by some unworthy loser who just happened to notice that the one before him had not logged out from google and say.. changed his password!! Should i be paranoid? Isn't this a major security lapse while implementing the openid spec? Probably today someone can give me a workaround for this issue and the question is solved for me. But what about the others who have implemented openid in their apps and not implemented a workaround?

    The method DotNetOpenAuth.OpenId.RelyingParty.IAuthenticationRequest.RedirectToProvider() is documented never to return: Redirects the user agent to the provider for authentication. Execution of the current page terminates after this call. However, it does return under the latest implementation (3.4.3). I'm using the following code: using (var relayingParty = new OpenIdRelyingParty()) { var response = relayingParty.GetResponse(); if (response == null) { // Stage 2: user submitting Identifier var openId = Request.Form["openId"]; relayingParty.CreateRequest(openId).RedirectToProvider(); throw new Exception("Never gets here"); } ... } (The line with "Never gets here" is reached). I need to return an ActionResult from this method ... Is this a known bug? Is there a aorkaround? Should I return EmptyResult? As far as I understand this is a bug - I submitted it in the project issue tracker.

I am also using openid selector to select the openid provider from the list.     This belongs on Meta but I can't ask it there since, well, I can't log in :-) I'm unable to log into my account using my OpenID, josh.gitlin.name on either StackOverflow or Meta. The error message I receive after entering my OpenID on the login page and pressing "Login" is: Unable to log in with your OpenID provider: Error occurred while sending a direct message or getting the response My alternate OpenID hmblprogrammer.pip.verisignlabs.com doesn't work either. Anything I can try? (And is there any way this question can be associated with my account even though I'm not logged in?)

  • How do I use a jQuery not selector to select relative URLs?

    I'm working on a little jQuery script to add Google Analytics pageTracker onclick data to all relative URLs on my forum, allowing me to track clicks to external sites. I don't want to add the onclick to internal links on forum.sitename or sitename, and I don't want to add them to any hrefs marked # or that start with /. My script below works nicely, but for one minor problem! All of the forum's URLs are relative and don't start with /. I appear to have no way to change that, so need to modify the jQuery below to prevent it adding the onclick to links like as it currently does. What I want to do, is to write a .not() function like .not("[href!^=http") to prevent jQuery from adding the onclick to any hrefs which do not start with http. However, .not() appears not to support this. I'm new to jQuery and can't figure this out. I have even added android:cacheColorHint="#00000000" as provided info by some other blogs.
