  • HP Envy - HDMI / Mini-display-port not working

    I saw that many of HP envy users (and some other hardwares) are having problems while using Ubuntu (some other distributions too). PROBLEM My main issue is make my HDMI or Mini-display-port work on Linux (Ubuntu). I`m able to make it work smoothly on windows only :( TIP Some guy create a blog, that is very nice and I could found some helps over there. But is kind of abandoned. General Purpose The idea of this post is to put together all users and share though under this issue. Thanks in advance for any reply/comment. UPDATE1: Looking THIS comment I could start to see something at the end of the road! I will wait for some reply on this. If I have more news I`ll update this post!

  • Right click doesn't work on HP mini 210 touchpad

    Need help in getting the right mouse click to work on a HP mini 210-1015TU when using the touchpad. If I plug in a USB mouse, both left click and right click function as normal. Using the touchpad however I can only get the left click to work. Attempting to right click gives the result expected from a left click. As per some comments on a forum I added a file 11-touchpad.conf to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. I can provide further details if required. This made touchpad operation noticeably smoother but the problem with the right mouse click remains. Not a hardware problem as right clicked worked with 10.04 and still works with Windows 7 starter. 10.10 installed using wubi.

  • Various crashes in 12.04 after upgrade and fresh install

    Ubuntu drives me crazy. Since I upgraded from 11.10 64-bit to 12.04 Ubuntu crashes regularly. One time the crash report tells me that Skype is the faulty app, another time it was Opera, and today the crash report tells me Xorg crashes. I read that it can be caused by a faulty upgrade so I made a clean new installation of 12.04 32-bit. But the error is the same. I had a look in the log files with a friend but we did not find a answer. This morning the crashes happened like this: Boot Auto-start Thunderbird Start VLC for radio Start Opera Working a while (30 minutes) Starting Skype 2 minutes later, the system freezes, the monitor turns black, a login screen appears and I enter my password. The desktop comes up again and the crash report pops up.

  • Can't configure Bluetooth drivers for mac mini 4,1

    upon following the instructions on thread for mac mini leading to me to a thread for a fix for BlueTooth, i follow the instructions (even they are for other Mac's) i get it to fire up and combined with hcitool i managed to connect my apple track pad and keyboard... how ever upon reboot im back to bluetooth telling me there are no drivers nothing works, yet all the files are still there?   • Dell Mini 9 Integrated Microphone -- not working

    Im running the latest Debian version, 6.0 on my Dell Mini 9.Webcam and sound work, but microphone is a no-go. I hope even though it is Debian, fellow Linux users can help. In Alsamixer (1.0.23), I have Capture, Digital, and Mic settings all the way up. There are no options for adjusting "Front" mic settings. (May have been for older alsamixer versions?) In Sound Recorder, playback has loud noise/feedback? Under Preferences in Volume Control under the Recording tab, both Capture and Digital are permanently checked, regardless if I uncheck them. I'm not sure how to interpret the above, but I am just trying to offer as much relevant background information as I can. I've been scouring forums for the answer, but to no avail. Most questions/answers are from 2008, and couldn't find a solution. I'm not very handy with the Linux machine, but love to learn / am learning. Also, I've attempted the solution here, and it didn't work. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

  • Rebuilding a Mac Mini (early 2009) --- Update

    A couple of months ago I rebuilt the family’s Mac Mini (you can read the details in this post).  Things had gone pretty smoothly until a few weeks ago.  That’s when my wife mentioned that different applications would spontaneously crash. She kept track for a few days, and it turned out to be any or all of the applications that she uses (Safari, Quicken, Entourage, etc.) . I did some online research and didn’t really find too much – but then how do you do a proper Google search for “Mac OS 10.5.8 applications crash”.  The best suggestion seemed to be issues around 10.5.8, where people suggested that you go back to a previous version (something like 10.5.6).  The only way to do that is to completely reinstall the OS – which is what I had just done. SO, instead of doing that, I decided to just reapply the 10.5.8 update by downloading it from Apple (http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update ).  I had installed the updates after the rebuild through the Apple Update mechanism built into OS X.  I thought maybe the combo update would reinstall some corrupted file (or something). I did this about a week ago and sure enough, we’ve had one crash this week with the same usage patterns as before.  I still have no idea what was causing the crashes, but at this point, I’m just going to declare it fixed and move on.

  • Enable Multi-Column Google Searches with a User Script

    Are you wanting to improve the search results view at Google and make better use of the webpage space? With a little user script magic you can make those search results look and fit better in your favorite browser. Note: This user script may conflict with the AutoPager extension if you have it installed in your favorite browser. Before Here is the standard single column view of search results at Google. Not too bad but the available space could certainly be better utilized. Note: For the purposes of our example we are using Google Chrome but this user script can be easily added to other browsers. After If you have never installed a user script in Chrome before it is just as simple as the regular extensions at the official Google website. Here you can see the details for the user script we are installing. Notice that you can view the source code if desired. To add the user script to Chrome click on “Install”. Once you start the install process you will see an intermediary message asking if you wish to continue in the lower left corner of your browser. Click “Continue” to move to the next step in the install process. From this point on the install process is practically identical to the official extensions. You can see the final confirmation window here…click “Install” to finish adding the user script to Chrome. As with regular extensions you will see a post-install message in the upper right corner. So, what does a user script look like in the “Extensions Page”? You can see the user script entry here…outside of an icon it looks rather identical to a normal extension. After refreshing the search page shown above we now have two columns of search results (default setting). This looks much much better than a single column view and there is little to no page scrolling required now. To switch to a three column view simply use the keyboard shortcut “Alt + 3”. To return to a single column view use “Alt + 1” and for the default two column view use “Alt + 2”. Three keyboard shortcuts for three different views…definitely a good thing. Note: On our test system we needed to use the number keys at the top of our keyboard to switch views…this is most likely the result of unique settings on our test system. Conclusion If you are wanting a better viewing experience when conducting searches at Google then this user script will make a very nice addition to your favorite browser.     Hi, I am working on a calendar that will show bookings. The height of containing the booking is calculated dynamically in proportion to the length of the booking. The following code works perfectly well in Firefox but not in Safari or Opera: function calculateBookingHeight(from, to) { var today = new Date; var end = new Date.UTC(today.getUTCFullYear(),today.getUTCMonth(),today.getUTCDate(),23); var start = new Date.UTC(today.getUTCFullYear(),today.getUTCMonth(),today.getUTCDate(),6); var from = new Date(from); var to = new Date(to); if (from > start && to < end) { var difference = (to - from) / 120000; } else if (from > start && to > end) { var difference = (end - from) / 120000; } else { var difference = 510 } return difference; } In summary, each hour on the calendar is a height of 30px. The second if statement deals with the end of the booking being the following day. If I replace the entire code block with return 510, Safari behaves as expected and sets the height of each booking to 510px so I assume it must be something in this function that is causing the problem.   • Can I use a Google Appliance/Mini to crawl and index sites I don't own?

    Maybe this is a stupid question, but... I am working with this company and they said they needed to get "permission" to crawl other people's sites. They have a Google Search Appliance And some Google Minis and want to point them at other sites to aggregate content. The end result will be something like a targeted search engine. (All the indexed sites relate to a specific topic) The only thing they will be doing is: Indexing Content from the other sites/domains Providing search functionality on their own site that searches the indexed content (like Google, displaying summaries and not the full content) The search results will provide links back to the original content Their intent is not malicious in nature, and is to provide a single site/resource for people to reference on their given topic. Is there anything illegal or fishy about this process?

  • This is probably a horrible idea; putting a Mac Mini in a mini-fridge [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Putting servers inside a refrigerator? Just moved to a new house and had to place my Mac Mini server in the attic. Now this is really nice and cool at this time of the year, but during summer it's going to get blistering hot up there, meaning I have to find a solution that won't kill my Mac Mini and the two WD external drives I have connected to it. Is there any good reason why I couldn't just buy a mini-fridge and put them inside that? The only thing I can think of is condensation building up, but I have no idea if that will be an issue or not. Something like this. And yes, I'm pretty sure this is a terrible idea, but I figured it was worth mentioning here and getting some feedback. What other options are there?

  • Free Google Docs alternative compatible with Opera

    Well gDocs isn't working ok, too many bugs and it's pretty slow (especially when saving documents). I have tried several alternatives: - Zoho - they say it's not compatible with Opera and it;s true - you even can't CTRL+V text - Buzzword - it's really slow, and some functions don't work properly (on all browsers) for example "increase indent" increases a random text indent - Etherpad - was taken over by google and is shut down - Peepel - it's a cool thing, almost a free virtual desktop in a browser but it's buggy - a saved a document, tried to open it end an error occured. the document was lost - OpenGoo - went commercial At the moment I'm testing ThinkFree Online - it'a a bit slow (Java :P) and some minor things don't work (like drag a toolbar) but it has cool functionalities (almost like OpenOffice! which I use at home), it actually works with opera (create, save, edit document). Maybe I'll try Scribd but is it a office/share platform? any other worth trying??

    I want to get files off a Ubuntu box (10.04) and transfer them to a Mac Mini. I am connecting the two directly with a piece of network cable (Its not crossover, but I am told the Mini can handle this). The Ubuntu box has Samba installed(I think), but no internet connection. When I create a shared folder in Ubuntu it doest show up in Mac OS. But the Ubunutu box is appearing in the 'Shared' section in Mac Finder. Help
