  • What technology should I use for a complex report?

    I have a task to generate reports from a Visual Studio C# application. This is a replacement (caused by new requirements) for a program written using the built-in implementation of Crystal Reports. Although workable, it was far from ideal. The reports have conditional content (If type=1, print this, if type=2 print that.) Crystal does not adjust spacing dynamically and the various pieces were not the same length making for some unprofessional-looking spacing. I had thought of generating the reports in HTML, which would be feasible, but I'm concerned that you lose a degree of control, and I may be asked, e.g. to "move this up a bit" or similar which may be tricky. I'm not either a Crystal guru or an HTML guru. What other reporting technologies are available that would make it easy to drop in parts of different sizes, do table layouts, etc.?

  • "Unable To Load Client Print Control" - SSRS Printing problems again

    Please forgive me as my head is spinning. I have tried so many solutions to this issue, that I'm almost not sure where I am at this point. At this point in time I have these issues in my Production, Test, and Dev environments. For simplicity sake, I will just try to get it working in Dev first. Here is my setup: Database/Reporting Server (Same server): Windows Server 2003 SP2 SQL Server 2005 SP3 Development Box: Windows 7 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 SQL Server 2008 SP1 (not being used in this case, but wanted to include it in case it is relative) Internet Explorer 8 Details: * I have a custom ASP.NET application that is using ReportViewer to access reports on my Database/Reporting Server. * I am able to connect directly to Report Manager and print with no trouble. * When I view source on the page with ReportViewer, it says I'm am using version 9.0.30729.4402 . * The classid of the rsclientprint.dll that keeps getting installed to my c:\windows\downloaded program files directory is {41861299-EAB2-4DCC-986C-802AE12AC499}. * I have tried taking the rsclientprint.cab file from my Database/Reporting Server and installing it directly to my Development Box and had no success. I made sure to unregister the previously installed dll first. I feel like I have read as many solutions as I can, and so I turn to you for some assistance.   • Customizing the TFS 2008 build sequence to avoid compilation and deploy SSRS

    I'm trying to create a CI process for SQL Server Reporting Services. I am fairly new to TFS but quite experienced with MSBuild. In the past I've used a combination of MSBuild with Team City so the whole build process is more or less custom. Here lies the start of my problems, as the solution I am deploying only contains Report Server projects (rds), no compilation is required. I thought that I would override the the first default task that TFS runs (EndToEndIteration) to override the default TFS build sequence and inject my own. The first snag that I have come across is that the build always fails, how can I set the status of the build to success? Currently the EndToEndIteration task is very light and only has a message. Is this the best method to create a custom build process in TFS where compilation is not required? Or should I use the default sequence and override one of the hook tasks mentioned in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337604%28VS.80%29.aspx (ie: AfterCompile) The core steps that I'd like to achieve are: Bundle the RDL and datasource files Connect to the host server to register/deploy the reports Re-apply any subscriptions that previously existed Run tests to verify the deployment succeeded and is returning results as expected I have found another article on Report services deployment: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88710/reporting-services-deployment But it doesn't mention the best practice for customizing the standard build process. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can't Deploy or Upload Large SSRS 2008 Report from VS or IE

    So far in this project I have two reports in VS2008/BIDS. The first one contains 1 tablix and is about 100k. The second one contains 3 tablixes (tablices?) and is about 257k. I can successfully deploy the smaller report from VS and I can upload it from the Report Manager in IE. I can view/run it from Report Manager and I can get to the Report Server (web service) URL from my browser just fine. Everything is done over HTTPS and there is nothing wrong with the certificates. With the larger report, the error I get in VS is "The operation has timed out" after about 100 seconds. The error when I upload from IE is "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send" after about 130 seconds. In the RSReportServer.config file I tried changing Authentication/EnableAuthPersistence from true to false and restarting the service, but still get the error. I have the key "SecureConnectionLevel" set to 2. Changing this to 0 and turning off SSL is not going to be an option. I added a registry key named "MaxRequestBytes" to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters and set it to 5242880 (5MB) and restarted the HTTP and SRS services as suggested in a forum post by Jin Chen of MSFT. I still cannot upload the larger report. This is on MS SQL 2008 and WS 2003.   • Crystal reports - Encoding Issue UTF-8 / iso-8559-1

    Hi, Has anyone had this error before when running reports in Crystal Reports 2008: Character set encoding from transport information [UTF-8] does not match with character set encoding in the received SOAP message [iso-8559]. I presume this indicates a file needs changing, but trying to fint it is causing me a real headache. There are references to UTF-8 all over the server. Any help would be great. Thanks, Lloyd.

    I have a serious issue with crystal reports. when run in my development environment or debugged on my local machine it works fine. but when the application is published to a windows server 2003 it has the dreaded "The report you requested requires further information" Message I have had no luck trying to get rid of this message Anybody know what I can try? I use a placeholder in the aspx page and then set the user/password and database in the codebehind I could not get it to work with a dataset and found that I had to assign odbc connection in the cr designer. and then in the code behind change the above details as required. In VS2008 I can edit and preview the reports with no problems If I fire up the debugger I can view the reports in the browser with no problems But if I publish the website to another folder on the same machine and fire up IIS and try to browse to a report I get the aforementioned error. All else works as expected. IIS runs under different permissions than VS2008 so perhaps its something to do with that, but I have tried lots of different permissions and cannot get it to run. DC

  • Crystal Reports "File Break"

    I'm generating a Crystal Reports report which will ultimately need to be split into thousands of pdf files. What would be ideal would be if Crystal Reports had something like a "file break", like a page break, that you could insert into the file at the appropriate places. I will need reasonably fine control over the file names, as well....something like "fileName_{CustomerId}_{CustomerIsLocal}.pdf". I'm presuming a third-party piece of software will probably be needed. Thoughts? TIA.

  • Crystal Reports Images not loading in ASP.NET MVC

    I'm using Crystal Reports in a Webform inside of an MVC application. Images in the reports are not being displayed, however, on both the ASP.NET Development Server and IIS 7 (on Win7x64). I know from a number of other questions similar to this that the CrystalImageHandler HTTP Handler is responsible for rendering the image, but I've tried all of the usual solutions to no avail.   • ASP.NET Session does not timeout on using ReportViewer Control.

    Hi, We are using the ReportViewer control to display SSRS reports in our ASP.NET application. On pages where we use the ReportViewer control the session does not time out. The reason for this is the ReportViewer control emits a "setTimeOut" javascript function which reads the Session timeout value from the web.config and pings the server 1 minute before the configured value and keeps the session alive. For example, if the session timeout value is 5 minutes, the ReportViewer pings the server on the 4th minute. We used fidldler to verify this behavior. In addition, if we remove the ReportViewer control from the page, the sessions times out as expected. We also tried using the ReportViewer control in a sample application and observed the same behaviour. Has anyone faced this issue? Regards, Saurabh

  • Render an asynchronous report, wider than the screen, without extra scrollbars

    I have an asynchronous local SSRS 2005 report that is of variable height and width, but routinely is bigger than the screen. I want to render it full size so that some of the report renders off screen and the only scrollbars the user sees are the ones on the browser window. What is the best way to accomplish this? The only method that I've found that even comes remotely close to what I want is to set static width/height values that are much larger than the report will ever be. But, this is undesirable since it leaves so much extra whitespace in the browser window. Has anyone had success rendering asynchronous reports without the extra scrollbars?

    Hi, I goggled for 2 hours to find what shall I use. I found that both are good and have good community. BIRT is supported by IBM, IBM integrated Tivoli reports with it. This proves it is good and will keep growing. Jasper Reports has fairly bid community and (probably) a better report designed (iReport). My requirement is simple: I want to use quick, good reporting tool. My reporting requirements may keep on increasing, thus would like a tool which remains upto-the-mark with market. Please suggest.

  • Visual Studio Crashes when using Crystal Reports Group Editor

    I have a crystal report in my Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET project, and when I choose "Group Expert" from the Crystal Reports - Report menu, Visual Studio crashes / hangs and I have to use Task Manager to close the program. This happens no matter how many times I try, and oddly enough it seems to work fine on another computer with the same project. Any help at all in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Developer SP2, Windows Vista Enterprise SP1, and the version of Crystal Reports that came with the Visual Studio installation.

  • SSRS 2005: Filter Nested Table within a List

    In SQL Server Reporting Services 2005, how can I filter a nested table within a list? I have 2 datasets. The first, datasetHeader, contains one row per account. The second, datasetDetails contains multiple rows per account. Control: Dataset name List: datasetHeader Table: datasetDetails The table is placed within the list. When I attempt to filter on the table, I get fields from datasetHeader instead of datasetDetails. Previously I had the table within a subreport, and I had that working by using parameters; however, I needed to pull it into the main report because of the implied KeepTogether=true property for subreports that was causing undesired pagination.

  • Crystal Reports Server - Database Login Needs to go Away

    The environment I'm working in is a Crystal Reports Server 2008 talking to a MySQL Server 5.1 database using JDBC. The problem is that I get a database logon screen every time I try to access a report from Crystal Reports Server. I've setup a JDBC connection using the MySQL Connector/J driver. When I create a .rpt file I provide the login credentails all is fine. I then publish to InfoView and go to access the report and it prompts me for username and password to the database. I then went to CMC and right-clicked on the report and opened the Database Configuration. I've selected 'Use original database logon information from the report' and 'Use same database logon as when report is run'. However, I still get the logon screen when I try to access the report.

  • Exporting from SSRS 2008 ReportViewer to Excel Causes Duplicate Columns

    I have a report that groups months by quarters, so each quarter has three months and the display of the months under the quarter is toggled by the quarter header. It looks just fine in the ReportViewer, but when exporting to Excel the first month in the quarter with data is duplicated and appended to the end of the quarter group. Here is what it looks like in the ReportViewer (with Quarters 2 and 4 expanded, note May and June do not have any data and show blank columns by design): http://i.imgur.com/MykZE.png This is how it looks when exported to Excel: http://i.imgur.com/zfLuk.png The collapsed Quarter should only show the LAST month in the quarter. You can see that in the Excel export July is inserted in Q1 even though it should be hidden entirely since that quarter is collapsed, December is appended to Q2, January is inserted into Q3, and April is duplicated and appended to Q4. Exporting the any format OTHER than Excel works correctly and does not insert these columns.   • Datetime Format Setting In SSRS

    We have a requirement where date time values would be passed to the report parameter which is of "String" date type (and not "DateTime"). The report parameter would be a queried one i.e. it would have a list of values in which the passed value should fall in. The strange part is that if the date time value passed to this parameter is passed in this format mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM then only it succeeds otherwise a error is displayed (If month/date/hour/minute/second is having a single digit value then we need to pass single digit value to parameter as well). Assuming that the report server picks this format from the "regional settings" in control panel, we tried modifying the date & time formats as yyyy-mm-dd & HH:mm:ss but the outcome was the same. On researching more I found some suggestions specifying to change the language property in the rdl (I was not able to figure out how) but this would not be the solution I am looking for. I also found another topic here but it didn't provide the solution but it didn't provide the solution we are looking for. I need to understand on if this format is controlled by the report server & is it configurable. It would be great if someone can provide some guidance. Thanks.
