  • can't get rid of top and bottom drop shadows

    - by Jawad
    Why with the following code, I still can't get rid of drop shadows at the top and bottom. Although the drop shadows are "small", yet still they are there. div#inner_container { width: 960px; margin: 0px auto; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); box-shadow: 0 9px 0px 0px transparent, 0 -9px 0px 0px transparent, 12px 0 15px -4px rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.5), -12px 0 15px -4px rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.5); position: relative; z-index: 5000; }

  • css menu <ul><li> dinamically centered or width of buttons that covers the whole page

    - by Tony Stark
    I am building a home page for my minecraft server. Probably in the following 4-6 months I will opend my second and this is why I am in trouble. My first site is 1000 pixel wide, and the second will be 1200. First big difference. My menus are dinamically generated by my php code. It checks on my databases if there is another button or it is over. These buttons can be added or removed directly online. Another big issue is the browser compatibility. In a survey I did on our previous server I had a lot of users using: chrome, internet explorer, safari and firefox. That means that I must find a solution that is compatible with most browsers. What do I have to do? I came up with this CSS, which is touch compatible, it allows menus to be swapped to the left and it is enough to set 1 parameter to fix it for every page width. Sadly it is left aligned. body, nav, ul, li, a {margin: 0; padding: 0;} body {font-family: Verdana,"Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; } a {text-decoration: none;} .container { max-width: 900px; margin: 0px auto 0px auto; } .toggleMenu { display: none; background: #666; padding: 10px 15px; color: #999999; } .nav { border: 1px solid #424242; background-color: #121212; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#686868', endColorstr='#121212'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#686868), to(#121212)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); background-image: linear-gradient(#686868, #121212); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; box-shadow: 0 1px 1px #777, 0 1px 0 #666 inset; list-style: none; *zoom: 1; position: relative; } .nav:before,.nav:after { content: " "; display: table; } .nav:after { clear: both; } .nav ul { list-style: none; width: 11em; z-index: 1; background-color: #121212; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); } .nav a { padding: 10px 15px; color:#999999; text-transform: uppercase; font: bold 11px Arial, Helvetica; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: 0 1px 0 #000; *zoom: 1; } .nav a:hover{ color:#000000; background-color: #B2B2B2; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#D3D3D3', endColorstr='#B2B2B2'); background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, from(#D3D3D3), to(#B2B2B2)); background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); background-image: linear-gradient(#D3D3D3, #B2B2B2); } /*Delimitazione di ogni tab | HOME | */ .nav li { position: relative; border-right: 1px solid #424242; -moz-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; box-shadow: 1px 0 0 #686868; } .nav > li { float: left; border-top: 1px solid #424242; z-index: 200; } .nav > li > .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li li > .parent { background-image: url("../rightArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: center right; } .nav > li > a { display: block; } .nav li ul { position: absolute; left: -9999px; z-index: 100; } /* freccetta che indica un sottomenu nell'ultimo tab */ .nav > li:last-child li > .parent{ background-image: url("../leftArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left; } /*flip subsubmenu*/ .nav li.last.hover > ul { left:auto; right: 0; } .nav > li.hover > ul { left: 0; } .nav li li.hover > ul { left: 100%; top: 0; } /* Spostare il 2^ sottomenu a sinistra */ .nav li.last li.hover ul { left:auto; right: 100%; top:0; } .nav li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:100; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:200; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { display: block; background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:300; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } .nav li li li li a { background-color: #686868; -moz-box-shadow: 0 -1px rgba(255,255,255,.3); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); box-shadow: 0 -1px 0 rgba(255,255,255,.3); z-index:400; border-top: 1px solid #686868; } @media screen and (max-width: 768px) { .active { display: block; } .nav > li { float: none; } .nav > li > .parent { background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav li li .parent { background-image: url("../downArrow.png"); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: 95% 50%; } .nav ul { display: block; width: 100%; } .nav > li.hover > ul , .nav li li.hover ul { position: static; } } My girlfriend (who adapted this code) is really busy for school and cannot help me. Leaving the borders on the whole square (page width), is it possible to make buttons cover the page width dinamically? Or is it possible to center the buttons? Thank you very much!

  • Raytraced Shadows Problem

    - by Mat
Hey There! I've got a problem with shadowrays in my raytracer. Please have a look at the following two pictures 3D sMax: My Raytracer: The scene is lit by a very bright light, shining from the back. It's so bright that there is no gradient in the shading, just either white or dark (due to the overexposure). both images were rendered using 3DStudioMax and both use the exact same geometry, just in one case the normals are interpolated across the triangles. Now consider the red dot on the surface. In the case of the unsmoothed version, it lies in a dark area. this means that the light source is not visible from this triangle, since it's facing away from it. In the smoothed version however, it lies in the lit area, because the interpolated normal would suggest, that the light would be visible at that point (although the actual geometry of the triangle is facing away from the lightsource). My problem now is when raytraced shadows come in. if a shadowray is shot into the scene, from the red dot, to test whether the light-source is visible or not (to determine shadowing), the shadowray will return an intersection, independent of whether normals are interpolated or not (because intersections only depend on the geometry). Therefore the pixel would be shaded dark. 3dsamx is handling the case correctly - the rendered image was generated with Raytraced shadows turned on. However, my own Raytracer runs exactly into this problem when i turn on raytraced shadows (in my raytracer, the point is dark in both cases, because raytraced shadows determine the point lying in the shadow), and i don't know how to solve it. I hope someone knows this problem and how to deal with it.. thanks!

  • Any implementations of graph st-ordering or ear-decomposition?

    - by chang
I'm in the search for an implementation of an ear-decomposition algorithm (http://www.ics.uci.edu/~eppstein/junkyard/euler/ear.html). I examined networkx and didn't find one. Although the algorithm layout is vaguely in my mind, I'd like to see some reference implementation, too. I'm aware of Ulrik Brandes publication on a linear time Eager st-ordering algorithm, which results in an ear decomposition as a side product, if I understand correctly (it even includes pseudocode, which I'm trying to base my implementation on). Side problem: First step could be an st-ordering of a graph. Are there any implementations for st-ordering algorithms you know? Thanks for your input. I'd really like to contribute e.g. to networkx by implementing the ear-decomposition algorithm in python.

  • Improving SAS multipath to JBOD performance on Linux

    - by user36825
Hello all I'm trying to optimize a storage setup on some Sun hardware with Linux. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We have the following hardware: Sun Blade X6270 2* LSISAS1068E SAS controllers 2* Sun J4400 JBODs with 1 TB disks (24 disks per JBOD) Fedora Core 12 2.6.33 release kernel from FC13 (also tried with latest 2.6.31 kernel from FC12, same results) Here's the datasheet for the SAS hardware: http://www.sun.com/storage/storage_networking/hba/sas/PCIe.pdf It's using PCI Express 1.0a, 8x lanes. With a bandwidth of 250 MB/sec per lane, we should be able to do 2000 MB/sec per SAS controller. Each controller can do 3 Gb/sec per port and has two 4 port PHYs. We connect both PHYs from a controller to a JBOD. So between the JBOD and the controller we have 2 PHYs * 4 SAS ports * 3 Gb/sec = 24 Gb/sec of bandwidth, which is more than the PCI Express bandwidth. With write caching enabled and when doing big writes, each disk can sustain about 80 MB/sec (near the start of the disk). With 24 disks, that means we should be able to do 1920 MB/sec per JBOD. multipath { rr_min_io 100 uid 0 path_grouping_policy multibus failback manual path_selector "round-robin 0" rr_weight priorities alias somealias no_path_retry queue mode 0644 gid 0 wwid somewwid } I tried values of 50, 100, 1000 for rr_min_io, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Along with varying rr_min_io I tried adding some delay between starting the dd's to prevent all of them writing over the same PHY at the same time, but this didn't make any difference, so I think the I/O's are getting properly spread out. According to /proc/interrupts, the SAS controllers are using a "IR-IO-APIC-fasteoi" interrupt scheme. For some reason only core #0 in the machine is handling these interrupts. I can improve performance slightly by assigning a separate core to handle the interrupts for each SAS controller: echo 2 /proc/irq/24/smp_affinity echo 4 /proc/irq/26/smp_affinity Using dd to write to the disk generates "Function call interrupts" (no idea what these are), which are handled by core #4, so I keep other processes off this core too. I run 48 dd's (one for each disk), assigning them to cores not dealing with interrupts like so: taskset -c somecore dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/mpathx oflag=direct bs=128M oflag=direct prevents any kind of buffer cache from getting involved. None of my cores seem maxed out. The cores dealing with interrupts are mostly idle and all the other cores are waiting on I/O as one would expect. • Drawing a texture line between two vectors in XNA WP7

    - by Krav
I want to create a simple graph maker in WP7. The goal is to draw a texture line between two vectors what the user defines with touch. I already made the rotation, and it is working, but not correctly, because it doesn't calculate the line's texture height, and because of that, there are too many overlapping textures. So it does draw the line, but too many of them. How could I calculate it correctly? Here is the code: public void DrawLine(Vector2 st,Vector2 dest,NodeUnit EdgeParent,NodeUnit EdgeChild) { float d = Vector2.Distance(st, dest); float rotate = (float)(Math.Atan2(st.Y - dest.Y, st.X - dest.X)); direction = new Vector2(((dest.X - st.X) / (float)d), (dest.Y - st.Y) / (float)d); Vector2 _pos = st; World.TheHive.Add(new LineHiveMind(linetexture, _pos, rotate, EdgeParent, EdgeChild, new List<LineUnit>())); for (int i = 0; i < d; i++) { World.TheHive.Last()._lines.Add(new LineUnit(linetexture, _pos, rotate, EdgeParent, EdgeChild)); _pos += direction; } } d is for the Distance of the st (Starting node) and dest (Destination node) rotate is for rotation direction calculates the direction between the starting and the destination node _pos is for starting position changing Thanks for any suggestions/help!

  • How to make an inner shadow effect on big font ?

    - by Relax
I want to make the effect as demonstrate on this site http://dropshadow.webvex.limebits.com/ with arguments - left:0 top:0 blur:1 opacity:1 examples:engraved font:sans serif I tried #333333 -1px -1px but seems not enough to make an inner shadow on such big font, it may be much more complex than i thought? And worse is i'm using Cufon to replace the font but Cufon doesn't support blur of text-shadow I guess maybe i should use JS to make this effect, but i doubt JS will work together with Cufon, or JS font replacement together with JS shadow maker? Any ideas?

  • How to determine visibility in 2D

    - by Jack
Hello, I'm developing an AI sandbox and I would like to calculate what every living entity can see. The rule is to simply hide what's behind the edges of the shapes from the point of view of the entity. The image clarifies everything: I need it either as an input to the artificial intelligence either graphically, to show it for a specific entity while it moves.. Any cool ideas?

  • Why does Python's math.factorial not play nice with threads?

    - by W1N9Zr0
Why does math.factorial act so weird in a thread? Here is an example, it creates three threads: thread that just sleeps for a while thread that increments an int for a while thread that does math.factorial on a large number. It calls start on the threads, then join with a timeout The sleep and spin threads work as expected and return from start right away, and then sit in the join for the timeout. The factorial thread on the other hand does not return from start until it runs to the end! import sys from threading import Thread from time import sleep, time from math import factorial # Helper class that stores a start time to compare to class timed_thread(Thread): def __init__(self, time_start): Thread.__init__(self) self.time_start = time_start # Thread that just executes sleep() class sleep_thread(timed_thread): def run(self): sleep(15) print "st DONE:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) # Thread that increments a number for a while class spin_thread(timed_thread): def run(self): x = 1 while x < 120000000: x += 1 print "sp DONE:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) # Thread that calls math.factorial with a large number class factorial_thread(timed_thread): def run(self): factorial(50000) print "ft DONE:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) # the tests print print "sleep_thread test" time_start = time() st = sleep_thread(time_start) st.start() print "st.start:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) st.join(2) print "st.join:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) print "sleep alive:\t%r" % st.isAlive() print print "spin_thread test" time_start = time() sp = spin_thread(time_start) sp.start() print "sp.start:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) sp.join(2) print "sp.join:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) print "sp alive:\t%r" % sp.isAlive() print print "factorial_thread test" time_start = time() ft = factorial_thread(time_start) ft.start() print "ft.start:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) ft.join(2) print "ft.join:\t%f" % (time() - time_start) print "ft alive:\t%r" % ft.isAlive() And here is the output on Python 2.6.5 on CentOS x64: sleep_thread test st.start: 0.000675 st.join: 2.006963 sleep alive: True spin_thread test sp.start: 0.000595 sp.join: 2.010066 sp alive: True factorial_thread test ft DONE: 4.475453 ft.start: 4.475589 ft.join: 4.475615 ft alive: False st DONE: 10.994519 sp DONE: 12.054668 I've tried this on python 2.6.5 on CentOS x64, 2.7.2 on Windows x86 and the factorial thread does not return from start on either of them until the thread is done executing. • What's the best way to apply a drop shadow?

    - by jckeyes
What is the best method for applying drop shadows? I'm working on a site right now where we have a good deal of them, however, I've been fighting to find the best method to do it. The site is pretty animation heavy so shadows need to work well with this. I tried a jQuery shadow pulgin. The shadows looked good and were easy to use but were slow and didn't work well with any animations (required lots of redrawing, very joggy). I also tried creating my own jQuery extension that wraps my element in a couple gray divs and then offsets them a little bit to give a shadow effect. This worked well. It's quick and responsive to the animation. However, it makes DOM manipulation/traversal cumbersome since everything is wrapped in these shadow divs. I know there has to be a better way but this isn't exactly my forte. Thoughts?

For volumes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. Recommended: At least 1 gigabyte of free disk space on each volume if volume size is more than 1 gigabyte. ERROR - A Volume Shadow Copy Service operation error has occurred: (0x8004231f) Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data. I'd tried both - PowerShell wbAdmin start backup -backupTarget:E: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet and via Control Panel - File History button Clearly both EFI and Windows Recovery Environment partitions don't meet requirements coming from System Image tool (pic below) On top of that all system partitions are now shown as 100% free in Disk Management, it's disturbing but far from the actual state. My question is - hot to create System Image in Windows 8.1?

  • CGContextSetShadow() - shadow direction reversed between iOS 3.0 and 4.0?

    - by Pascal
I've been using CGContextSetShadowWithColor() in my Quartz drawing code on the iPhone to generate the "stomped in" look for text and other things (in drawRect: and drawLayer:inContext:). Worked perfectly, but when running the exact same code against iOS 3.2 and now iOS 4.0 I noticed that the shadows are all in the opposite direction. E.g. in the following code I set a black shadow to be 1 pixel above the text, which gave it a "pressed in" look, and now this shadow is 1px below the text, giving it a standard shadow. ... CGContextSetShadowWithColor(context, CGSizeMake(0.f, 1.f), 0.5f, shadowColor); CGContextShowGlyphsAtPoint(context, origin.x, origin.y, glyphs, length); ... Now I don't know whether I am (or have been) doing something wrong or whether there has been a change to the handling of this setting. I haven't applied any transformation that would explain this to me, at least not knowingly. I've flipped the text matrix in one instance, but not in others and this behavior is consistent. Plus I wasn't able to find anything about this in the SDK Release Notes, so it looks like it's probably me. What might be the issue?

  • C++ Unlocking a std::mutex before calling std::unique_lock wait

    - by Sant Kadog
I have a multithreaded application (using std::thread) with a manager (class Tree) that executes some piece of code on different subtrees (embedded struct SubTree) in parallel. The basic idea is that each instance of SubTree has a deque that store objects. If the deque is empty, the thread waits until a new element is inserted in the deque or the termination criteria is reached. One subtree can generate objects and push them in the deque of another subtree. For convenience, all my std::mutex, std::locks and std::variable_condition are stored in a struct called "locks". The class Tree creates some threads that run the following method (first attempt) : void Tree::launch(SubTree & st, Locks & locks ) { /* some code */ std::lock_guard<std::mutex> deque_lock(locks.deque_mutex_[st.id_]) ; // lock the access to the deque of subtree st if (st.deque_.empty()) // check that the deque is still empty { // some threads are still running, wait for them to terminate std::unique_lock<std::mutex> wait_lock(locks.restart_mutex_[st.id_]) ; locks.restart_condition_[st.id_].wait(wait_lock) ; } /* some code */ } The problem is that "deque_lock" is still locked while the thread is waiting. Hence no object can be added in the deque of the current thread by a concurrent one. So I turned the lock_guard into a unique_lock and managed the lock/unlock manually : void launch(SubTree & st, Locks & locks ) { /* some code */ std::unique_lock<std::mutex> deque_lock(locks.deque_mutex_[st.id_]) ; // lock the access to the deque of subtree st if (st.deque_.empty()) // check that the deque is still empty { deque_lock.unlock() ; // unlock the access to the deque to enable the other threads to add objects // DATA RACE : nothing must happen to the unprotected deque here !!!!!! // some threads are still running, wait for them to terminate std::unique_lock<std::mutex> wait_lock(locks.restart_mutex_[st.id_]) ; locks.restart_condition_[st.id_].wait(wait_lock) ; } /* some code */ } The problem now, is that there is a data race, and I would like to make sure that the "wait" instruction is performed directly after the "deque_lock.unlock()" one. Would anyone know a way to create such a critical instruction sequence with the standard library ? Thanks in advance.

  • webkit multiple inline shadows

    - by meo
    I have trouble setting multiple shadows on one element in webkit: -moz-box-shadow: inset 0 0 3px #999, 0 0 5px #fff; -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 3px #999, 0 0 5px #fff; box-shadow: inset 0 0 3px #999, 0 0 5px #fff; it works fine in firefox but safari displays only the inset shadow. i tried to set both values separately. But safari takes just count of the last value: -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 3px #999; -webkit-box-shadow: 0 5px #fff; is it possible to set more then one shadow on a single element in safari/webkit?

  • Error X3650 when compiling shader in XNA

    - by Saikai
I'm attempting to convert the XBDEV.NET Mosaic Shader for use in my XNA project and having trouble. The compiler errors out because of the half globals. At first I tried replacing the globals and just writing the variables explicitly in the code, but that garbles the Output. Next I tried replacing all the half with float vars, but that still garbles the resulting Image. I call the effect file from SpriteBatch.Begin(). Is there a way to convert this shader to the new pixel shader conventions? Are there any good tutorials for this topic? Here is the shader file for reference: /*****************************************************************************/ /* File: tiles.fx Details: Modified version of the NVIDIA Composer FX Demo Program 2004 Produces a tiled mosaic effect on the output. • Queries passed to SQL Server are getting corrupted

    - by adrianbanks
We are experiencing a bizarre error with our application at a customer site. We have managed to narrow it down to the point where we can replicate the behaviour using just Management Studio and SQL Server. We have two machines, A and B: +------------+ +--------------------+ | [A] | | [B] | | Management | -------------- | SQL Server 2008 R2 | | Studio | | Enterprise x64 | +------------+ +--------------------+ We are running a SQL script in Management Studio on machine A against the SQL Server instance on machine B. We are not actually executing the script, just parsing it. Most of the time, the parse operation works fine. Occasionally (seemingly randomly), the parse operation fails with a syntax error. The error message shows the part of the script with the error, which appears as some SQL from the original script that has been truncated and has random characters appended to it. An example: The original SQL: SELECT DISTINCT ST.TABLE_NAME as TableName FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES AS ST INNER JOIN INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS AS SC ON SC.TABLE_NAME = ST.TABLE_NAME WHERE ST.TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE' AND SC.COLUMN_NAME = 'Identity' AND ST.TABLE_NAME != 'dtproperties' ORDER BY ST.TABLE_NAME The SQL that is in error (as reported by SQL Server): SELECT DISTINCT ST.TABLE_NAME as TableName FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES AS ST INNER JOIN INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS AS SC ON SC.TABLE_NAME = Sa? The above example shows how the query is being corrupted. It doesn't always happen, and is not always the same bit of SQL that causes the error. Parsing this script against another SQL Server instance produces no errors, showing that the script is fine. It appears that something is corrupting the SQL that is being received the the server. This leads me to think that the problem lies either with the client end or in the transmission of the SQL from the client to the server. I have a SQL trace from the period where an error occurs, which shows the SQL has been corrupted when SQL Server receives it. We have been unable to track down any possible cause of this behaviour, and so cannot find a fix. Because the errors occur seemingly randomly, it is also very hard to generate reproduction steps to submit a bug report. Any ideas?

  • regex: trim all strings directly preceeded by digit except if string belongs to predefined set of st

    - by Geert-Jan
I've got addresses I need to clean up for matching purposes. Part of the process is trimming unwanted suffices from housenumbers, e.g: mainstreet 4a --> mainstreet 4. However I don't want: 618 5th Ave SW --> 618 5 Ave SW in other words there are some strings (for now: st, nd, rd, th) which I don't want to strip. What would be the best method of doing this (regex or otherwise) ? a wokring regex without the exceptions would be: a = a.replaceAll("(^| )([0-9]+)[a-z]+($| )","$1$2$3"); //replace 1a --> 1 I thought about first searching and substiting the special cases with special characters while keeping the references in a map, then do the above regex, and then doing the reverse substitute using the reference map, but I'm looking for a simpler solution. Thanks
