  • Newbie: UINavigationController is pulling me back from further learning :(

    - by nithin
    I have created a window-based application and my problem is I am unable to create UINavigationController on the go. InFact I don't know how to do that. My AppDelegeate - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after application launch [window addSubview:logInView.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } here the logInView is an object of @interface LogInViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextField *usernameField; IBOutlet UITextField *passwordField; IBOutlet UIButton *logInButton; } -(IBAction) logInClick:(id) sender; from the click action of this loginviewcontroller It should be showing the home screen with navigation controller. and I have to add many subviews. My question is where should I init the UINavigationController and where could I write the codes for adding subviews? how to map it with interfacebuilder?

  • Objectiveflickr set properties, more than one call

    - by user295944
    I cant to set Meta and set Location in ObjectiveFlickr if I do only one it works fine, but if I do both it only does the first one - (void)flickrAPIRequest:(OFFlickrAPIRequest *)inRequest didCompleteWithResponse:(NSDictionary *)inResponseDictionary { NSLog(@"%s %@ %@", PRETTY_FUNCTION, inRequest.sessionInfo, inResponseDictionary); if (inRequest.sessionInfo == kUploadImageStep) { snapPictureDescriptionLabel.text = @"Setting properties..."; NSLog(@"%@", inResponseDictionary); NSString *photoID = [[inResponseDictionary valueForKeyPath:@"photoid"] textContent]; flickrRequest.sessionInfo = kSetImagePropertiesStep; [flickrRequest callAPIMethodWithPOST:@"flickr.photos.setMeta" arguments:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:photoID, @"photo_id", @"Snap and Run", @"title", @"Uploaded from my iPhone/iPod Touch", @"description", nil]]; flickrRequest.sessionInfo = kSetImagePropertiesStep; [flickrRequest callAPIMethodWithPOST:@"flickr.photos.geo.setLocation" arguments:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:photoID, @"photo_id",@"34" ,@"lat",@"-118",@"lon", nil]]; } else if (inRequest.sessionInfo == kSetImagePropertiesStep) { [self updateUserInterface:nil]; snapPictureDescriptionLabel.text = @"Done"; [UIApplication sharedApplication].idleTimerDisabled = NO; } }

  • Objective-C : Member variable is losing reference between method calls.

    - by Winston
    Hello, I've been having with an objective-c class which appears to be losing its pointer reference between methods of the same class. In the MyTableViewController.h file, I declare: @interface SettingsTableViewController : UITableViewController <UITextFieldDelegate>{ OCRAppDelegate *delegate; } MyTableViewController.m file - (id) init { self = [ super initWithStyle: UITableViewStyleGrouped ]; delegate = [(OCRAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] retain]; } The problem is when the "MyTableViewController" view appears again and a different method is executed within that same class, the delegate pointer (which was assigned during the init method) is no longer there. I tried to retain, but to no avail. Would anyone know why this is, it seems like perhaps it is a fundamental Objective-C issue which I am missing. Appreciate your help. Thanks, Winston

  • Problem with entityForName & ManagedObjectContext when extending tutorial material

    - by Martin KS
    Afternoon all, I tried to add a second data entity to the persistent store in the (locations) coredata tutorial code, and then access this in a new view. I think that I've followed the tutorial, and checked that I'm doing a clean build etc, but can't see what to change to prevent it crashing. I'm afraid I'm at my wits end with this one, and can't seem to find the step that I've missed. I've pasted the header and code files below, please let me know if I need to share any more of the code. The crash seems to happen on the line: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Album" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; There is one other line in the code that refers to galleryviewcontroller at the moment, and that's in the main application delegate: galleryViewController.managedObjectContext = [self managedObjectContext]; GalleryViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface GalleryViewController : UIViewController { NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; int rowNumber; IBOutlet UILabel *lblMessage; UIBarButtonItem *addButton; NSMutableArray *imagesArray; } @property (readwrite) int rowNumber; @property (nonatomic,retain) UILabel *lblMessage; @property (nonatomic,retain) NSMutableArray *imagesArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIBarButtonItem *addButton; -(void)updateRowNumber:(int)theIndex; -(void)addImage; @end GalleryViewController.m #import "RootViewController.h" #import "LocationsAppDelegate.h" #import "Album.h" #import "GalleryViewController.h" #import "Image.h" @implementation GalleryViewController @synthesize lblMessage,rowNumber,addButton,managedObjectContext; @synthesize imagesArray; /* // The designated initializer. Override if you create the controller programmatically and want to perform customization that is not appropriate for viewDidLoad. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { // Custom initialization } return self; } */ -(void)updateRowNumber:(int)theIndex{ rowNumber=theIndex; LocationsAppDelegate *mainDelegate =(LocationsAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; Album *anAlbum = [mainDelegate.albumsArray objectAtIndex:rowNumber]; lblMessage.text = anAlbum.uniqueAlbumIdentifier; } // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; addButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemAdd target:self action:@selector(addImage)]; addButton.enabled = YES; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = addButton; /* Found this in another answer, adding it to the code didn't help. if (managedObjectContext == nil) { managedObjectContext = [[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; } */ NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Album" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; [request setEntity:entity]; // Order the albums by creation date, most recent first. NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"imagePath" ascending:NO]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [sortDescriptor release]; [sortDescriptors release]; // Execute the fetch -- create a mutable copy of the result. NSError *error = nil; NSMutableArray *mutableFetchResults = [[managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error] mutableCopy]; if (mutableFetchResults == nil) { // Handle the error. } [self setImagesArray:mutableFetchResults]; int a = 5; int b = 10; for( int i=0; i<[imagesArray count]; i++ ) { if( a == 325 ) { a = 5; b += 70; } UIImageView *any = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(a,b,70,60)]; any.image = [imagesArray objectAtIndex:i]; any.tag = i; [self.view addSubview:any]; [any release]; a += 80; } } -(void)addImage{ NSString *msg = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%i",rowNumber]; UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Add image to" message:msg delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"No" otherButtonTitles:@"Yes", nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. • Show UIAlertView that is same as UIRemoteNotification when app is running in foreground

    - by Sidwyn Koh
    I understand that we can handle push notifications via the method: - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo and we can check if the app was running in the foreground: if (application.applicationState == UIApplicationStateActive ) { ... } How do we show the exact same notification with localisation? NSString *message = [[[userInfo valueForKey:@"aps"] valueForKey:@"alert"] valueForKey:@"loc-key"]; NSString *trueMessage = NSLocalizedString(message, nil); UIAlertView *alertView = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Alert" message:trueMessage cancelButtonItem:@"OK" otherButtonItems:@"Show", nil]; [alertView show]; This shows the raw unlocalized text, e.g. "You have a new alert from %1@ on %2@." My question is, how can we place the loc-args inside the UIAlertView as well, when the app is running in the foreground?

  • InApp Purchase on slow network

    - by Chandan Shetty SP
    My InApp purchase code works fine in normal network, but in very slow network(safari browser will take 5 min to load a webpage). I am not getting any delegates... - (void)requestDidFinish:(SKRequest *)request - (void)request:(SKRequest *)request didFailWithError:(NSError *)error - (void)productsRequest:(SKProductsRequest *)request didReceiveResponse:(SKProductsResponse *)response So my code blocks indefinetly because i am setting setUserInteractionEnabled to FALSE initially and setting it back to TRUE in the above delegates... [[[UIApplication sharedApplication]keyWindow]setUserInteractionEnabled:FALSE]; Is it possible to check the network status before creating "SKProductsRequest" or any better way to implement inApp Purchase? Thanks in advance,

  • iPhone status bar orientation with opengl

    - by sfider
    I have opengl only view that displays in portrait and landscape mode using projection matrix (view's transformation is identity all the time). I need to show status bar with proper orientation. I do this by setting status bar orientation property in UIApplication and changing frame of opengl view so the view won't go under status bar. When I change from landscape to portrait (landscape is the initial state) view's frame is set to (0, 20, 320, 460) and stays like this. However view appears to be translated by (-10, -10). It seems that I did change the size of view but couldn't move it. Weird things are: initialy view is full screen, I change it to (0, 0, 300, 480) (landscape with status bar) and it works then, it doesn't work when I try to chenge it for the second time (portrait with status bar) frame property of the view shows that view is placed correctly Any thoughts on what can by the problem?

  • MPMediaickerController memory leak

    - by Joe
    This is code from Apple's Addmusic example. MPMediaPickerController *picker = [[MPMediaPickerController alloc] initWithMediaTypes: MPMediaTypeMusic]; picker.delegate = self; picker.allowsPickingMultipleItems = YES; picker.prompt = NSLocalizedString (@"Add songs to play", "Prompt in media item picker"); // The media item picker uses the default UI style, so it needs a default-style // status bar to match it visually [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarStyle: UIStatusBarStyleDefault animated: YES]; [self presentModalViewController: picker animated: YES]; [picker release]; I'm using this code in my app and the Leaks instrument highlights a leak on the line: [self presentModalViewController: picker animated: YES]; I think that this is because this line retains a reference to picker which cannot be subsequently released. Is there any way around this?

  • Prevent status bar from receiving touch events

    - by Typeoneerror
    Edit After further testing, it appears that the part of my button that are not clickable are where the status bar used to be. I'm hiding the status bar with : // -- Override point for customization after app launch [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES]; But it's still receiving touches. Any idea on how to disable this? Is there's a bounding box on an application that receives touch events? I created a few sample round rect buttons and placed them in different places in my view. The ones in the center of the view receive touch events (and show the highlighted blue color) but if I place a button near the edges of the view, only parts of them are clickable in the simulator. Is this because of Apples style guidelines? I placed a button exactly where a UITabNavigationItem would appear and only the bottom half of it is clickable.

  • How to retrieve stored reference to an NSManagedObject subclass?

    - by DavidDev
    Hi! I have a NSManagedObject subclass named Tour. I stored the reference to it using this code: prefs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSURL *myURL = [[myTour objectID] URIRepresentation]; NSData *uriData = [NSKeyedArchiver archivedDataWithRootObject:myURL]; [prefs setObject:uriData forKey:@"tour"]; Now I want to retrieve it. I tried using: NSData *myData = [prefs objectForKey:@"tour"]; NSURL *myURL = [NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithData:myData]; TourAppDelegate *appDelegate = (TourAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSManagedObjectID *myID = [appDelegate.persistentStoreCoordinator managedObjectIDForURIRepresentation:myURL]; if (myID) { Tour *tempObject = [appDelegate.managedObjectContext objectWithID:myID]; //WARNING tour = tempObject; } if (tour) //instruction... But it's giving me this warning "Incompatible Objective-c types. Initializing 'struct NSManagedObject *', expected 'struct Tour *' Plus, when executing, it's giving me this: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'CoreData could not fulfill a fault for '0x5001eb0 How can I solve this?

  • UIVIewController wrong position before rotate

    - by zegnus
    I have the starter point of my application this window (white background): - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { mainScreen = [[MainScreenController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainScreenController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; // add it to the main window [window addSubview:[mainScreen view]]; // show view [window makeKeyAndVisible]; NSLog(@"started"); return YES; } And MainScreenController is an UIViewController with (blackBackground) created by the Interface Builder. The application executes perfectly but the first time, the black view is moved up like the height of the status iphone pannel (leaving white rectangle at the bottom). If I rotate the iPhone twice, the view is perfectly positioned in the right place, filling all the screen with the black background. Any idea? Thanks!

  • iPhone application lifecycle

    - by iter
    InterfaceBuilder generates this method for me in fooAppDelegate.m: - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } IB also puts UIWindow *window; in fooAppDelegate.h and @synthesize window; in fooAppDelegate.m, and correspondingly for navigationController. IB generates code to release window and navigationController in dealloc. I cannot see any code that allocates and initializes the window and the navigationController. I wonder where that happens. Ari.

  • Two UITabBarControllers and Autorotation

    - by optimisticmonkey
    I have two UITabBarControllers in my mainwnidow.nib wired to my appdelegate. In my app delegate, I can load either one: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { //either [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; //or [window addSubview:tabBar2Controller.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } and autorotation works. If I add both (with the expectation to swap between them later): [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; [window addSubview:tabBar2Controller.view]; then autorotation stops working...everything is always portrait. Thanks in advance for any tips...

  • custom URL scheme doesn't work! Navigon AppInteract

All I do is this: NSString *myTestStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"navigon://App|Another place|FRA|75008|PARIS|rue de Turin|17|2.324621|48.881273"]; NSString *navigonStrEsc = [myTestStr stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSLog(@"navigonStr: %@", navigonStrEsc); [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:navigonStrEsc]]; Any ideas what is wrong with my way? thanks a lot!

Suppose that is a cocoa fundamental problem and variable is not properly defined according its need. Thanks for any idea to solve it. declaration: @interface TableArchiveAppDelegate : NSObject <UIAppDelegate> { NSString *varName; } @property (nonatomic, copy) NSString *varName; then related lines on .m file: @synthesize varName; -(void)test{ varName = textField.text; } and request from another view: - (void)viewDidLoad { TableArchiveAppDelegate *mainDelegate = (TableArchiveAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; name.text = mainDelegate.varName; [super viewDidLoad]; }

  • Add UIView Above All Other Views, Including StatusBar

    - by Mike Stead
    I'm wanting to create a view (UIControl) which blocks all input and shows a UIActivityIndicatorView while authenticating a user. The UIActionSheet and UIAlertView both manage to add a black semi-transparent view over the top of all other views to block input and I'd like to do similar. I've tried adding my view to the top UIWindow in the [[UIApplication sharedApplication] windows] array, and while this does place it above the UIKeyboard if it's visible, it doesn't place it over the StatusBar (which makes sense). My next attempt was to extend UIAlertView, remove all of its subviews and set its layer.contents = nil, then add the ActivityIndicator as a subview. This works well, but I can't seem to kill the default bouncy transition of the UIAlertView when you call it to "show". Does anyone have any pointers towards the best way tackle this problem that gives me full control? Oh and I know blocking input is not great but I do ensure it's for a short period of time and it has the benefit of making it clear to the user that their action, which must complete for them to progress, is processing.

  • Emailing HTML from within an iPhone app is stopping at special characters

    - by user141146
    Hi, I have an iPhone app that will let users email some pre-determined text as HTML. I'm having a problem in that if the text contains special characters within the text (e.g., ampersand &, , <), the NSString variable that I use for sending the body of the email gets truncated at the special character. I'm not sure how to fix this (I tried using the method stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding…but this hasn't fixed the problems). Thoughts on what I'm doing wrong / how to fix it? Here is sample code showing what I'm trying to do Thanks!!! - (void)send_an_email:(id)sender { NSString *subject_string = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Summary of %@", commercial_name]; NSString *body_string = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@<br /><br />", [self.dl email_message]]; // email_message returns the body of text that should be shipped as html. If email_message contains special characters, the text truncates at the special character NSString *full_string = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"mailto:?to=&subject=%@&body=%@", [subject_string stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding], [body_string stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:full_string]]; }

  • Invalidating session before iPhone application quits

    - by tartox
    Hello I would like to tell the server to invalidate an ongoing session when the user quits the iPhone application. In the app delegate, I send a request to the server in the (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application method. I am not waiting for a server answer, I just want to send the request and quit. However I cant see any packet leaving the application. The same code in another place works fine. Session has a limited duration anyway and the server will invalidate it after a while, but I would prefer to do it nicely when leaving application. Is it normal that no NSURLConnection can be established from the applicationWillTerminate method ? Thank you.

  • Simple ViewController / View, remove white bar?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I am just looking at setting up a simple viewController programatically, I have a ViewController.xib file that I have set the background color to RED in interface builder. I have also added the following to my AppDelegate.m @implementation syntax_MapViewAppDelegate @synthesize window; -(BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { viewController = [[MapViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } -(void)dealloc { [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end When I run the code it does what I expect apart from the white bar at the bottom of the screen, can anyone give me any pointers in how to remove this? I have a feeling I might need to position the view within the window, but I am not sure how? cheers Gary

  • Is there anyone out there that codes like I do?

    - by Jacob Relkin
    Hi, Some people have told me that my coding style is a lot different than theirs. I think I am somewhat neurotic when it comes to spacing and indenting though. Here's a snippet to show you what I mean: - ( void ) applicationDidFinishLaunching: ( UIApplication *) application { SomeObject *object = [ [ SomeObject alloc ] init ]; int x = 100 / 5; object.someInstanceVariable = ( ( 4 * x ) + rand() ); [ object someMethod ]; } Notice how I space out all of my brackets/parentheses, start curly braces on the same line, "my code has room to breathe", so to speak. So my questions are a) is this normal and b) What's your coding style?
