  • win 7: copy all files from a complex folder structure to one folder

    I'd have a complex folder structure like: h:\folder1\folder2\folder3 h:\folder1\folder2\a h:\folder1\b h:\folder1\folder3 h:\folder1\folder4\d Only with probably 100's of folders and a depth of around 4 (I'm guessing) Anyway I want to run a command that will move all the files from every sub folder into the top level folder. so something like h:\folder1\*\*.* to h:\folder1 Is there a tool I can use to do this? does win 7 have a command that will do this?   • System files not hidden Win XP

    I recently copied my win xp install from one hard to another(via ubuntu live cd) Everything went well, except that all the hidden system files(boot.ini, ntdlr, io.sys) are no longer hidden. I tried this: attrib +s c:/IO.sys No effect. The files are still visible even though the setting to hide system files is checked. Any solutions? Thanks.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit 2 GB RAM Duo 1.6MHz processors Since upgrading from Vista to Win 7 File Hippo Update Checker no longer works? It appears to go through the motions of checking the software because the popup window appears but it never fires up the results in a browser which it used to do in Vista. It simply does nothing after the initial popup window appears and disappears. Have tried uninstall/reinstall with no joy. Any ideas?

  • Media disconnected Acer Aspire Win 7 Starter

    Problem setting up wireless connection on my new ACER Netbook using Win 7 Starter. Works fine with LAN cable from NETGEAR WGT624V3 router with updated firmware. The NETGEAR does not see the ACER, but does see my XP Laptop. I'm also running a wireless, BlueRay DVD. When I run getmac I get hardware not pesent, my mac address, Hardware not present. Is there a switch that needs to be set?

  • ASUS P8B75-M Support Drivers incompatible with Win Server 2003

    Hey I've just installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise onto a newly built PC with this motherboard, but when I try to install the CDROM Support files it reports with an alert that says "Support files incompatible with WIN... blah blah" (Basically they seem to be only compatible with win7). Should I be installing Windows Server 2012 for these drivers? or are there drivers that are compatible with the Server 2003 Operating System?

  • Default setting for dual monitors (using Win+P)

    I have two displays (one monitor and one TV) connected to my card via DVI. I switch between them with Win+P (when I'm using XBMC I set "only projector"). Most of the time, I use it during late hours, so I just turn off the PC (with XBMC's option "shutdown") and go to sleep. All fine, but on the next day my display is changed (to "only projector"). Bottom line is - how can I set my Windows 7 to have "only monitor" each time system boots?

  • Who Are the BI Users in Your Neighborhood?

    Forrester's Boris Evelson recently wrote a blog titled "Who are the BI Personas?" that I enjoyed for a number of reasons. It's a quick read, easy to grasp and (refreshingly) focuses on the users of technology VS the technology. As Evelson admits, he meant to keep the reference chart at a high-level because there are too many different permutations and additional sub-categories to make such a chart useful. For me, I wouldn't head into the technical permutations but more the contextual use of BI and the issues that users experience.  My thoughts brought up more questions than answers such as: Context: -          HOW: With the exception of the "Power User" persona--likely some sort of business or operations analyst? -          WHEN: Are they using the information to make real-time decisions on the front lines (a customer service manager or shipping/logistics VP) or are they using this information for cumulative analysis and business planning? Or both? -          WHERE: What areas of the business are more or less likely to rely on BI across an organization? Human Resources, Operations, Facilities, Finance--- and why are some more prone to use data-driven analysis than others? Issues: -          DELAYS & DRAG ON IT?: One of the persona characteristics Evelson calls out is a reliance on IT. Every persona except for the "Power User" has a heavy reliance on IT for support. What business issues or delays does that cause to users? What is the drag on IT resources who could potentially be creating instead of reporting? -          HOW MANY CLICKS: If BI is being used within the context of a transaction (sales manager looking for upsell opportunities as an example) is that person getting the information within the context of that action or transaction? Or are they minimizing screens, logging into another application or reporting tool, running queries, etc.?   Who are the BI Users in your neighborhood or line of business? Do Evelson's personas resonate--and do the tools that he calls out (he refers to it as "BI Style") resonate with what your personas have or need? Finally, I'm very interested if BI use is viewed as  a bolt-on...or an integrated part of your daily enterprise processes?

    I want to develop a project on my own (if it is sucessful more people might start working on it too). Also I want to apply some proper software engineering from the first until the last day. On one hand just to try it out and compare results with previous projects that were just about writing code quick and dirty, and on the other hand to learn! I know the proper answer to this question is "It depends very much on the project...", "There is no single correct answer...". But I just need someplace to start, somewhere where every step is written down and tells me what to do. If I'm not happy next time I'll try something else. So, how/where should I start? server part): Server (172.22.37.4) is Windows Server 2008 R2 and client (192.168.4.213) is Ericsson telephone exchange of whom I do not know much. Client sends a file to server using FTAM protocol. This problem happens very often. I think, either client or server is doing sliding window protocol wrong. Server sends dup ack, client retransmits lost packet, but soon after client sends packets with wrong seq. Again, Server sends dup ack, client retransmits lost packet - but, this time with longer retransmission timeout. Again, client sends packet with wrong seq. Etc... Retransmission timeout grows to circa 4 minutes and communications never recovers to normal.

Without any interaction from me, and the only thing on the screen is my screen saver it crashes and the fault is "Stop" and a long string of numbers.   • Intel RST crashing! IAStorUI unstable in win 8.1

    I have a Z87E-ITX Asrock mobo. Using a new 64G Corsair SSD as cache and a new Western Digi Black Scorpion 750G 2.5" drive. Using windows 8.1. Latest software or not, I can't open Intel RST software without it saying IAStorUI has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly blah blah. I have had some issues recently with Robotic sounds causing fps drops etc but found it was the HDD. After a standard windows scan and fix (& update to win 8.1) I haven't been able to open Intel RST. I thought maybe I should try to look for an SSD cache drive checker but as it doesn't show up as a drive, I'm unsure how any program can scan it.

  • win xp wifi networking

    I have 2 pcs with win xp and a wifi router ( without outgoing internet connection )...my job was to connect them over wifi to share some files. router was properly configured, both computers connected to wifi without problems, but when I tried to network them I could not see them in workgroup...i changed their names and added them to same workgroup but i couldn't connect pc1 to pc2 ( i could ping router from each pc but pinging other computer resulted in ping timeout) ..now i cant figure out why this is not working since I've done this before on more complex networks and it should work but...( maybe I have gremlins hiding somewhere..) edit1: Firewall is down on both machines( I disengaged it in both control panel and in services) and folder sharing and permissions are ok.. edit2: I know about Ad Hoc network ( wlan-to-wlan, without router/switch ) but that's not what I am trying to accomplish here :)

    Software configuration : I have a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed via VMWare. I have installed Apache2.2, PHP5.2 and MySQL5.5 as separate packages. Issue : On my first installation of my application, all works great. When I updated some JS and CSS files and accessed my application again from a PC on local network, I got the old JS and CSS versions. When I access the same application on local server I got the latest versions of those files. Link of my application on local server is : http://localhost/BADIL Link of my application from local network is : http://LOCAL_SERVER_IP/BADIL I think that must be some cache but I don't know where. Maybe on Win Server 2008 R2 or on VMWare? The question is: Why, when I access my application on the server, everything works fine, but when I access the same application from a local network, I do not see the updated versions of JS and CSS files?

  • Win 7 accessing large files uses 100% RAM

    Running Win 7 64-bit SP1 with 8 GB RAM. I first noticed this problem when using the GUI to copy some large (5+ GB) files from one disk to another. What happens is the physical memory in use rises quite quickly to 100% and the system comes to a crawl. If I just start to access the file in a media player (it is a movie) the memory usage climbs up slowly but eventually reaches 100%. When copying the same files via XCOPY I do not have this problem. Using RAMMAP I see most of the memory usage is under "Mapped File" and is allocated under the "Active" column. If I select "Empty System Working Set" the RAM usage drops back down but then starts to climb back up. Any ideas on what I can check/test to eliminate this issue?
