  • Custom Html Helper is not working in asp.net MVC 2.0

  • ASP.NET MVC on IIS6

    Where can I find some good pointers on best practices for running ASP.NET MVC on IIS6? I haven't seen any realistic options for web-hosts who provide IIS7-hosting yet. Mostly because I don't live in the U.S. So I was wondering on how you best build applications in ASP.NET MVC and make it easily available to deploy on both IIS6 and IIS7. Keep in mind that this is for standard web-hosts, so there is no access to ISAPI-filters or special settings inside IIS6. Are there anything else one should think about when developing ASP.NET MVC-applications to target IIS6? Any functions that doesn't work? UPDATE: One of the bigger issues is the thing with routes. The pattern {controller}/{action} will work on IIS7, but not IIS6 which needs {controller}.mvc/{action}. So how do I make this transparent? Again, no ISAPI and no IIS-settings, please.

    We have an ASP.Net MVC 1.0 solution developed using Visual Studio 2008 and .net Framework 3.5SP1. We would now like to upgrade Visual Studio to 2010. If we just open the solution in VS 2010 and do not change the framework version, can we just continue to develop as before? If we open the solution in VS 2010 and change the framework version to 4.0, will we automatically start using ASP.Net MVC 2.0, or will it continue to use ASP.Net MVC 1.0? Is there anything we need to take into consideration when upgrading to ASP.Net MVC 2.0? Thanks Shiraz

  • ASP.NET MVC Resource not found

    I am working on an MVC project in Visual Studio 2010 with .NET Framework 4.0 + MVC2 and everything works if I set the target framework to .NET 4.0. However, my host does not offer .NET 4.0 in order to deploy the site I need to get it working on .NET 3.5. I tried converting it to ASP.NET 3.5 and everything builds just fine except now when I try to load the homepage, I get a 404 Error saying: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.   • jquery with ASP.NET MVC - calling ajax enabled web service

    This is a bit of a continuation of a previous question. Now I'm trying to make a call to an AJAX enabled web service which I have defined within the ASP.NET MVC application (i.e. the MovieService.svc). But the service is never being called in my getMovies javascript function. This same technique of calling the AJAX web service works ok if I try it in a non ASP.NET MVC application, so it makes me wonder if maybe the ASP MVC routes are interfering with things somehow when it tries to make the AJAX web service call. Do you have any idea why my web service isn't getting called?     Hi, I am trying to read an XSLT file from disk in my ASP.Net MVC controller. What I am doing is the following: string filepath = HttpContext.Request.PhysicalApplicationPath; filepath += "/Content/Xsl/pubmed.xslt"; string xsl = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(filepath); However, half way down this thread on forums.asp.net there is the following quote HttpContext.Current is evil and if you use it anywhere in your mvc app you are doing something wrong because you do not need it. Whilst I am not using "Current", I am wondering what is the best way to determine the absolute physical path of a file in MVC? For some reason (I don't know why!) HttpContext doesn't feel right for me. Is there a better (or recommended/best practice) way of reading files from disk in ASP.Net MVC? Thanks for your help, Robin

  • Is it possible to share a masterpage between MVC and webforms?

    I am adding MVC to a project that has MANY legacy webform pages. This works fine. However, I currently have a separate masterpage for MVC and for the webforms. The two master pages produce essentially identical output. I'd really like to kill the webforms one and just use the MVC master page with all my pages and stay DRY. Not being DRY has already bitten me a couple times when I forgot to change both. I tried doing the obvious way and just pointing the webform content page's MasterPage attribute at the MVC masterpage. This throws an error saying the MVC masters only work with MVC views. This seems like it would be a pretty common problem with mixed MVC and webform projects. My MVC master isn't doing anything with ViewData, so I don't see any reason the webforms couldn't use them.

    I know that I can use normal html files in ASP.NET MVC; however I have a situation where several (above 20) html files are needed for static display. This is fine and good, but I really don't want it cluttering the MVC project since none of them will have controller actions. Is there any way to load up a second project and use static html files from it, within ASP.NET MVC?

    Some people consider WordPress a blogging platform, some think of it as a CMS, some refer to WordPress as a development framework. Whichever it is, the question still remains. Is WordPress MVC compliant? I've read the forums and somebody asked about MVC about three years ago. There were some positive answers, and some negative ones. While nobody knows exactly what MVC is and everybody thinks of it in their own way, there's still a general concept that's present in all the discussions. I have little experience with MVC frameworks and there doesn't seem to be anything about the framework itself. Most of the MVC is done by the programmer, am I right? Now, going back to WordPress, could we consider the core rewrite engine (WP_Rewrite) the controller? Queries & plugin logic as the model? And themes as the view? Or am I getting it all wrong?   • ASP.NET RangeValidator can't do even the most basic math !?!?!?

    I'm having an issue with my ASP.NET RangeValidator controls. I want to allow users to enter a discount amount, and this amount must be negative (< $0.00). I want to verify that the amount entered in a textbox is a negative value, so I have this in my page markup: <asp:TextBox ID="tbxDiscount" runat="server" /> <asp:RangeValidator ID="rvDiscount" runat="server" ControlToValidate="tbxDiscount" MinimumValue="0.0" MaximumValue="0.0" EnableClientScript="true" ErrorMessage="Please enter a negative value for a discount" /> and I attempt to set the MinimumValue dynamically in my code before the page gets rendered - to the negative equivalent of my item price. So if the item is $69, I want to set the minimum value to - $69: rvDiscount.MinimumValue = (-1.0m * Price).ToString(); Trouble is: I keep getting this error message: The maximum value 0.0 cannot be less than the minimum value -69.00 for rvDiscount WTF?!?!??! Where I come from, -69 $ IS less than $0 ...... so what's the problem? And more importantly: what is the solution to the problem??

One page inherits from a library CKFinder.Connector.Connector. In the old days my aspx would just inherit="CKFinder.Connector.Connector", but how is this done in MVC.NET? Is Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<CKFinder.Connector.Connector>" the same?

    I'm writing a website in ASP.NET MVC, using the ASP.NET MVC 1.0 template that was added to VS2008 for me by the ASP.NET MVC installer. The template automatically adds an AccountController, but its account methods tie into a SQL Server Express entity. I don't have Express installed here. How can I reconfigure it to use my SQL Server 2008 database and to store user info in some columns in a User table I've already created?

  • MVC-style model binding in WCF?

    I want to bind POSTed form values to parameters in my WCF operation in the same way that ASP.Net MVC allows me to do. So, for example if my form has "customer.Name" and "customer.Age" parameters, I want to make a standard HTML POST to a named endpoint/operation that takes a customer parameter and have it instantiated and populated like MVC can do... It looks like I can use WebInvoke and its UriTemplate property to map simple parameters - does anyone know if a more MVC-like model-binding way is possible? Thanks, Mark.
