  • Configuration manager for PHP

    I am working on code re-factoring of configuration file loading part in PHP. Earlier I was using multiple 'ini' files but now I plan to go for single XML file which will be containing all configuration details of the project. Problem is, if somebody wants configuration file in ini or DB or anything else and not the default one (in this case XML), my code should handle that part. If somebody wants to go for other configuration option like ini, he will have to create ini file similar to my XML configuration file and my configuration manager should take care everything like parsing, storing in cache. For that I need a mechanism lets say proper interface for my configuration data where the underlying data store can be anything( XML, DB, ini etc) also I don't want it to be dependent on these underlying store and anytime in future this should be extensible to other file formats.

  • What does flushing thread local memory to global memory mean?

    Hi, I am aware that the purpose of volatile variables in Java is that writes to such variables are immediately visible to other threads. I am also aware that one of the effects of a synchronized block is to flush thread-local memory to global memory. I have never fully understood the references to 'thread-local' memory in this context. I understand that data which only exists on the stack is thread-local, but when talking about objects on the heap my understanding becomes hazy. I was hoping that to get comments on the following points: When executing on a machine with multiple processors, does flushing thread-local memory simply refer to the flushing of the CPU cache into RAM? When executing on a uniprocessor machine, does this mean anything at all? If it is possible for the heap to have the same variable at two different memory locations (each accessed by a different thread), under what circumstances would this arise? What implications does this have to garbage collection? How aggressively do VMs do this kind of thing? Overall, I think am trying to understand whether thread-local means memory that is physically accessible by only one CPU or if there is logical thread-local heap partitioning done by the VM? Any links to presentations or documentation would be immensely helpful. I have spent time researching this, and although I have found lots of nice literature, I haven't been able to satisfy my curiosity regarding the different situations & definitions of thread-local memory.   • Video Freezes Every few seconds

    Hi, I have problems playing videos on my Ubuntu 10.10 machine. The video FREEZES every 20-25 seconds, while I could still hear the audio. I use Totem Movie Player (GStreamer) & have nVidia on-board graphics card & AMD DualCore processor. After some 5-10 seconds, the videos resumes skipping the hung portion. But, I can hear the audio of that part! I've tried it with SMPlayer (GUI), VLC & Kaffeine. But, the same problem... I recently uninstalled the nVidia drivers and since then, not even for a second, no video hung! So, I thought its the problem with the proprietary nVidia drivers. But, since its uninstalled, I'm not able to get the desired desktop resolution & effects. So, is there any way I can work it out?

  • How do I configure sound with PulseAudio and Multiseat?

    In the spirit of full disclosure, i just posted this question to the ubuntu forums, but i figure more heads working on it couldn't hurt. I have a multi-seat setup working quite well. Hot plugging input devices works as expected and such. The only issue I am still not able to resolve is getting the audio for each seat. Here is a summary of my attempts at getting audio to work: Make ~/.pulse/default.pa dynamically configured based on which $DISPLAY the user logs in at. See this pastebin for the details. Load pulseaudio as a system-wide instance. Couldn't get this to work. None of the audio hardware was accessible to the users. Use udev rules to mark seats in ConsoleKit. Following udev guidelines found here: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/multiseat I didn't think this would work, although it was "guaranteed" to work by someone in irc.freenode #pulseaudio None of those attempts yielded success, which is why I now turn to the community for help. It is quite possible that the suggested methods work and I just messed some aspect of it up, idk. This is the last piece of the puzzle which is needed before I can go and update the MultiseatX page to include instructions for Ubuntu 12.04. My understandings on the situation: Access to pulseaudio is restricted to the active session as marked by ConsoleKit (something about an ACL). CK can only mark one session as active at a time. This simple little fact of life leads me to believe that the solution should involve pulseaudio being run as a system-wide instance. Each user should connect to the pulse server and be limited to a subset of all the hardware. Maybe each user connects to the pulse server via localhost, idk. I do know that regardless of my attempts and their failed results, I was always able to use sudo aplay -D plughw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav to play something to any of the hardware. I'm grasping at straws and am now down to the last few hairs i can pull out of my head. Please, help me figure this out so we can share the wealth. Any additional information needed will be provided at your request.

    I've just been reading about MSDeploy, the new website deployment tool from Microsoft. I'm developing an installer for a webapplication and a webservice to be used for our off-the-shelf product. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find obvious answers to. Does MSDeploy have robust support for upgrading websites after the initial deployment? I can see MSDeploy has good support for the initial deployment of databases. But does it have support for upgrading schemas whilst preserving the current data? Links addressing these specific questions would be good.

  • how to convert avi (xvid) to mkv or mp4 (h264)

    Very noob when it comes to video. I'm trying to make sense of what I"m finding via Google... but its mostly Greek to me. I have a bunch of Avi files that won't play in my WD TV Play box. Mediainfo tells me they are xvid. Specs for the box show that should be fine... but digging through forums says its hit-and-miss. So I'd like to try converting them to h264 encoded MKV or mp4 files. I gather avconv is the tool, but reading the manual just has me really really confused. I tried the very basic example of: avconv -i file.avi -c copy file.mp4 it took less than 4 seconds. And it worked... sort of. It "played" in that something came up on the screen... but there was horrible artifacting and scenes would just sort of melt into each other. I want to preserve quality if possible. I'm not concerned about file size. I'm not terribly concerned with the time it takes either, provided I can do them in a batch. Can someone familiar with the process please give me a command with the options? Thank you for your help.   • Recover backup copy of a ubuntu linux installation on a usb stick using dd

    Hi, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a usb stick in persistent install mode. So I could boot the laptop or my desktop computer with the stick, at boot time. Once I needed the 8GB stick for another purposes so I thought about coyping it to my desktop doing from mac os x: dd if=/dev/disks3s of=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy Now I am trying to do the opposite, after having used the stick, which was formatted to NTFS, just doing dd if=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy of=/dev/disks3s but although I can see that almost of the files are there, I can not boot again. IT is also strange the the file permissions are kind of strange, something like _user What can I do ? Thanks

  • Eclipse Problems View doesn't show Errors

    [Note: There is another thread about this problem but it did not answer the question.] For one specific project in Eclipse, the problems view does not show errors. It shows warnings but it does not show errors. The other projects do show errors (and everything else). For that problematic project, I can see the red squiggly error line in the files. However, the directory structure does not show an error icon and the error is not populated in the Problems View. Any ideas?

I am wondering if it's anything to do with the threads? But I wouldn't know how to solve it if it was. The complete exception thrown is: The object invoked has disconnected from its clients. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010108 (RPC_E_DISCONNECTED))

  • Consolidate the same image used multiple times in a PDF.

    I am generating PDF documents using DevExpress XtraReports. I am using the same image over and over (in rows of status lights). The PDF generated seems to duplicate the image definition for each image included. I would prefer if it included the image once and referenced it wherever it needed another copy - this would drastically reduce the size of my PDF docs. Is there any way to achieve this using DevExpress or even post processed via a third party application. Any help is appreciated.

  • Navigating the Content Assist List in Eclipse

    Here are the ways the Eclipse documentation states you can navigate the Content Assist list: You can use the mouse or the keyboard (Up Arrow, Down Arrow, Page Up, Page Down, Home, End, Enter) to navigate and select lines in the list. But all of the options require you to move your hands significantly away from their natural place on the keyboard! Are there any other, quicker ways I can navigate this list? Something like tab, or the j/k from vi?
