  • Do I have to prepare Active Directory prior to installing an Exchange service pack?

    I'm having trouble determining the proper procedure for installing Exchange 2007 sp3 on a Server 2008 R2 box running Exchange 2007 sp1. It is not clear on websites I have consulted (Microsoft TechNet and others) whether preparing Active Directory is only required on a NEW install of Exchange 2007 sp3, or if it is required when upgrading an existing Exchange 2007 install to sp3. Could someone who has experience with this please set me straight?

  • Looking for updated BIOS for '99 Gateway in order to format/recognize >127 GB HD

    I have a '99 Gateway that's apparently too old for even Gateway to acknowledge it exists. Want to use it as a media hub and put in a 320GB HD, but it will not format above 127GB even running Win XP SP3. Read somewhere that upgrading the BIOS may do the trick, but I can't find the correct BIOS, and GW has been no help. Hoping I can just upgrade the BIOS, which is 11 years old. Any help would be much appreciated! I don't know where to look, and searches have been fruitless.   • switchless Infiniband between two servers on RHEL 6.3

    I have 2 servers running RHEL 6.3 which have 2 port Infiniband cards >lspci | grep -i infini 07:00.0 InfiniBand: QLogic Corp. IBA7322 QDR InfiniBand HCA (rev 02) I'm interested in connecting them directly to each other bypassing an Infiniband switch (which I don't have). Quick googling showed that at least in some configurations it's possible. I installed all RedHat Infiniband packages with yum groupinstall "Infiniband Support". However, ibv_devinfo shows that both ports in each card are down, which indicates that cables are not connected. But the cable is connected, although the LEDs are off on the cards (not a good sign). Another source of confusion for me is that according to this, RedHat doesn't come with OFED packages and I'm slightly hesitant to install them from source due to the lack of RedHat support for them... So where am I going with this? The questions I have are: is it possible to have a switchless/direct Infiniband connection between two servers the way I described above? If it's possible, do I have to use the OFED packages or can I configure everything with just the packages coming with RHEL. Why are the LEDs off on my servers even though the cable is connected? Any additional input/advice/pointers would be appreciated. P.S. I followed this guide for installation instructions. The Infiniband cards are clearly recognized by my OS and the rdma service is running. Update: I have opensm installed.     Can't get this thing to work. Has anyone else had any success with Tumblr's auto-publish queue feature? I have a bunch of items in my queue It's set to auto-publish once a day It's set to only publish between 1am and 3am The next morning nothing will be published. The interface isn't perfectly clear - is it attempting to auto-post at a time that's not between 1 - 3 and then giving up?

  • Run a perl script as a windows 7 service

    I have a perl script which is compiled using pp, to be run as a windows service on windows 7 machines. I looked at the thread http://www.perlmonks.org/index.pl?node%5Fid=230377 but of little use because most of them weren't clear and the solutions suggested in that were to create executables and not actually for running as a windows 7 service. I tried putting my compiled exe in the scheduled tasks of windows but I think its not able to run for some reason. How do I debug this?

    Over the past several days I have been trying to get the shadow to work with samba but haven’t been successful. Can someone check below config and let me know if I am missing something? We are using Equallogic SAN and iSCSI LUNS to mount volumes. I can cleanly access samba shares on Windows 7 clients but just not shadow copy.   • Why would sshd allow root logins by default?

    I'm currently working on hardening my servers against hacking- amongst other things, i'm getting a load of attempts to log on as root over ssh. While i've implemented fail2ban, i'm wondering, why root logons would be allowed by default to start with? Even with non sudo based distros, i can always log on as a normal user and switch - so i'm wondering is there any clear advantage to allowing root logons on ssh, or it just something no one bothers to change?

But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product.   • SMTP Remote Queue on Exchange 2003

    We are currently using Windows Server 2003 R2 with Exchange 2003 and SolarWinds Exchange Monitor to monitor. A couple of weeks ago the SMTP remote queue began to build up and it got to about 150 messages in the queue when it began to go down. For the last couple of days the queue has been building up and it has now reached 450 messages. Is there anyway that i can clear this and is it anything that I need to worry about? Thanks guys!

    I usually set name servers at an ISP, they often take 24 - 48 hours to resolve. If one has 2 separate sets of name servers (say from 2 domain parking companies) they want to send traffic to, is it possible to switch between the sets instantly without any delays? To be clear, how do you switch mydomain.com (ns1.nameserver1.com, ns2.nameserver1.com) to mydomain.com (ns1.nameserver2.com, ns2.nameserver2.com) instantly?

  • Windows 7 boot from downloaded .iso

    Downloaded Windows 7 .iso off the net and want to install from USB key on old laptop (previously/still running XP) that has no CD/DVD drive. Here's what I've got so far: Read the instructions in this post: http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345 , which were quite straight forward and clear. Properly formatted USB key with another laptop (this one running vista), also with no DVD drive wasn't sure how to make the USB bootable, since my .iso was downloaded and I have no DVD drive.     I'm working on a tutorial using Backtrack 4 Live USB, and I would like to take a screencast of what I'm doing (not just screenshots) So far I have tried these application with limited success: -recordmydesktop -xvidcap -wink -istanbul -vlc -vnc2flv Each time I try the resulting files are generally choppy (at best 1 frame per second) and most don't even end up with a clear view of the screen each time. If anyone has suggestions for the screencast I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Bryan

The man page says this: Recurse: Change the file flags of file hierarchies rooted in the files instead of just the files themselves. I don't understand what that means.     I have a few extensions next to my URL bar in chrome on windows 7. When I press any of them, or even the bookmark star, the text box that pops up is clear. I am using the following extensions: ablock plus, googleTranslate, firebugLite, ghostery, avastWebRep, Ultimate UserAgent switcher, Web developer toolbar, desprotetor de links, DNT plus, and WOT. I am set to block popups but not javascript in chrome and have a blackout theme installed. any ideas?

    I am trying to print a bitmap image on a zebra printer (TLP-2844-Z) and it comes out incredibly blurry and faint but when I print it on a laser printer it looks fine. Also, when I printer plain text to the zebra printer or the test page it comes out crystal clear. Is there something I am doing wrong?

    Hi All, One of our offices has made the move away from PFSense to a Netgear FVS336G. The one feature I can't seem to figure out is its VPN capabilities. I'm confused as to whether this device can act as a IPSEC VPN server, or if it can only act as the client in a Site-Site VPN. The documentation does not make this clear at all, and Google does not seem to have been any help. (Related question: here)
