• How to track conversion rate (clicks to sales) from an internal advertising system?

  I am currently writing an interal advertising system for a company client's website, where the adverts will only be seen by internal users, and all transactions take place internally to the site (i.e. the adverts are for member-only content available on the site). Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best way to track the conversion rate of these adverts (i.e. views:clicks:sales)? EDIT I'm not looking for a 'Why don't you use google analystics'-type answer, I'm looking into possible architecture outlines, i.e. a 'why don't use store a guid in a cache temporarily and see if it ties to the advert' kind of answer. /EDIT In a previous job I did something based on an internal cache, which simply did view:click tracking, however the addition of the sales rate makes this task more complex, especially if we take into account the idea that someone may click through to an advert and not purchase immediately.   I'm trying to execute synonym filtering at query time so that if I search for X, results for Y also show up. I go to where Solr is being run, edit the .txt file and add X, Y on a new line. • Can I learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by September?

  Hi everyone, I'm wondering if it's realistically possible to learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by the end of this summer. The app shouldn't be too difficult, it would just interact with my site's API and essentially just fetch, create, and edit resources. I already have a little experience with the SDK (and I'm comfortable with Objective-C), so I'm not completely new to it. Although here I things I don't know how to do and what I'd need to learn: Log in to my site using basic http authentication and store the user's username/password for all future requests Implement a toolbar at the bottom to navigate between different views Fetch and parse xml into list items Do POST/PUT requests to create/edit a resource on my server Are there any good resources available to learn how to do those tasks above?   I have a simple python script like so: import sys lines = sys.argv[1] for line in lines.splitlines(): print line I want to call it from the command line (or a .bat file) but the first argument may (and probably will) be a string with multiple lines in it. How does one do this? Of course, this works: import sys lines = """This is a string It has multiple lines there are three total""" for line in lines.splitlines(): print line But I need to be able to process an argument line-by-line. EDIT: This is probably more of a Windows command-line problem than a Python problem. EDIT 2: Thanks for all of the good suggestions. It doesn't look like it's possible. I can't use another shell because I'm actually trying to invoke the script from another program which seems to use the Windows command-line behind the scenes.

• Using anchor property with dynamically added controls

  I'm adding some textboxes to a form dynamically at runtime. Everything works fine i.e. the textboxes are aligned, anchored and automatically resizes until the form is maximized. On maximizing the form, the textboxes are added to the same location while the form was not maximized. This causes a misalignment of the textboxes. How can I ensure that all the textboxes are at the same location and of the same size both while the windowstate is normal as well as maximized? EDIT: Btw I'm using C# EDIT: Would a flowlayoutpanel be useful here?

  Considering the following list : dalist = {{1, a, 1}, {2, s, 0}, {1, d, 0}, {2, f, 0}, {1, g, 1}} I would like to count the number of times a certain value in the first column takes a certain value in column 3. So in this example my desired output would be: {{1,1,2}, {1,0,1}, {2,1,0}, {2,0,2}} Where the latest sublist {2,0,2} being read as: When the value is 2 in the first column, a corresponding value (same row in matrices world) in column 3 of 0 is present twice. I hope this is not to confusing. I added the second Column to convey the fact that the columns are distant to each other. If possible, no reordering should happen. EDIT : {1,2,3,4,5} {1,0} are the exact values taken by the columns I am actually dealing with in my data. I know I am missing the correct description. Please edit if you can and know it. Thank you

On the click of edit button, save button button must be enabled. The problem is i cannot assign id's to buttons since the table is dynamically generated using struts2 s:iterator tag. If i do there will be 2 or more cells with the same id How can I achieve this?

  Hello, am a newbie in ruby on rails and am stuck with a simple problem of routing. I have my controller 'sub' and the 'Views' folder containing the add,edit,new erb files. In my routes file, i have 'map.resources :subs'. Until now, everything is fine. Problem: I moved the add,edit,new erb files into a subfolder called 'admin' inside the 'Views' main directory. I have no idea how to call those erb files from that 'admin' subdir. By default, it is looking for /app/views/subs/index.html.erb, and i want it to look in /app/views/subs/admin/index.html.erb Please can anyone tell me how to do this. Many many thanks

  So I have this schedule visit page with two groups. Group 1 contains a list of: Cases. Group 2 contains a list of: Parties. each group has a checkboxes next to its item for the user to select. My Issue when i select a case and/or a party and save -- then go to the edit page of the visit i just saved and only my selected case is checked and the party i selected is not checked. After debugging i realized that the partyId is not being saved properly during the create page and thus not showing as selected or saved on the edit page. I really need help on how to properly save the party selected and setting for it a value from the parameter. Here is my code of what i have for saving a case and would like to know how to properly save with party.   Is LocalDB supported by Visual Studio 2010 in Entity Framework 5, on .NET 4.0? Or am I doing it wrong? I'm getting a "The network path can't be found" issue when instantiating my model container with a connection string for LocalDB. • Strange PYTHONPATH problem

  I recently updated my python installation to 2.7 (previously 2.5), and I've noticed a strange problem where I cannot import certain modules that I created. I had no problem before. Normally, I edit the PYTHONPATH and add the directory I want to import modules. For some strange reason, I can no longer import. I checked my path in PYTHONPATH, and it looked correct. When I display the sys.path in an interpreter, I see the current directory prepended to every PYTHONPATH entry(i.e. 'c:\blah\blah c:\path\to\module') If I edit the sys.path by appending the directory that I want at the end of the list,everything works fine(i.e. 'c:\path\to\module\'). I never had to do this before. I'm on Windows 7 on two computers. Has anyone else had similar trouble?

• rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

  i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

• How do you insert new entries into an Access db table through an ASP.net website?

  I need to insert new records into an Access database. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and firstly create a asp.net website. I can connect to the information in Access databse using dataview or gridview and can query a particular entry (ie. Proposal No. -brings up all details linking to that proposal). I can then edit the details of that proposal and this would update the Access Db. What I need to do is to have a form that simply enters new details for a new customer. ie. Enter name [__] Enter Adress[__]. Then for this to update the database. By using the gridview or dataview I am able to view all fields that exist in the table and edit them. Is there a way that I can get a blank gridview/dataview template (which includes all the fields in the table) and fill it out to then update the database? Thanks

• What is the best way for the application to refer to the user?

  Forgive my noobishness, first time poster on stackoverflow! I can have the application read: "view your messages" "view my messages" "edit your profile" "edit my profile" etc. and others like that. Is one of these more correct then the other? I suppose that I could use neither and just leave it without any pronoun, but I would rather not. The person grading is a real stickler for "grammar" in code. Any input would be appreciated!

I've ran it as an administrator and I get an invalid parameter error message. Where should i store the avatar file? first of all i was saving all the files in src\main\webapp\resources , but each time i redeploy that folder empties. so i dedide to place in an other location : c:\wwwdir\resources, but i can't link local resources from remote pages, so i was not able to display any avatar . any idea? advise? link?

All it does is unpack a target tar, and then i want to permanently set some environment variables - principally the location of the unpacked libs and updating $PATH. Do I need to programmatically edit the .bashrc file, adding the appropriate entries to the end for example, or is there another way? What's standard practice? Edit: The package includes a number of run scripts (20+) that all use these named environment variables, so I need to set them somehow (the variable names have been chosen such that a collision is extremely unlikely)

• About the leading newline in Visual Studio solution files.

  Sometimes, for unknown reasons, VS 2008 creates solution files led by a newline. Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 10.00 # Visual Studio 2008 [...] This happened on various machines, and I have no idea why this is. A Google search did not yield any useful results. Now, why do I worry about this? Because I can't open these solutions in Windows Explorer. I have to open VS, select File - Open - Solution and it works fine. But to open solutions from within Explorer, I have to edit the sln file and remove the leading newline. Edit: After Leom's suggestion I tested a few times and found that the issue is solely dependent on the leading newline.

• Error including errno.h

  Every time I try to compile a project that includes errno.h in linux, I get issues using the error codes. GCC spits out errors saying the error codes aren't declared and I get the same issue with 3rd party projects that are, of course, known to compile. I have the Linux headers for my kernel installed. Any suggestions as to what else it could be? edit: Snippet at error code: if ((res != 0) && (errno == EEXIST)) Snippet of includes: ... #include <dirent.h> #include <errno.h> #include <stdarg.h> ... as is with no ifdef edit: Well I'm convinced my system's Linux headers are hosed somehow... that, or I'm missing some environment vars.

• port an iOS (iPhone) app to mac?

  Is there a preferred way to go about this? The app in question is not too large . . . single-player game that I wrote over the course of a couple of months. EDIT: I should add that I have no experience with mac development . . . outside of what comes naturally with being an iOS developer. EDIT: Classes heavily used in the game: subclasses of NSObject, UIView, and UIViewController. I don't know much about NSView, but I'm pretty sure all the UIView stuff will work in that class. Also some use of UITableViewController. I do also have Game Center, but I can leave that part out for now. There is no multi-touch.
