• I need a mechanism for locating SQL server instances

  Hi I have an idea and I want to apply it to my Application (C# .NET). When we connect to a DB (MS SQL Server 2008) in VS 2008, the ConnectionString saved in the Application Setting and it's a static varriable (no one can edit it unless you edit it inside VS 2008). I want a way to let my Application search for MS SQL Server and save it to Application Setting and use it to connect to my DB Programmatically. When my application start, the first thing to do is checking the ConnectionString if vaild, NOT Empty and test connection to MS SQL Server Successfully so if there is a proplem I think to show a window form to let the user enter some data like username and password for MS SQL Server 2008 Is there any way to do it?

• Alternative to 'publish' in visual studio

  I am working on an app with configurable files. When i publish i notice 1) I get an installer which i dont think i can opt out of 2) I dont know where the install path is and if i change the config files the application will not install (maybe not run either if i edit them in the right place?) So what alternatives do i have? I would like some event i can run which builds in release mode then copies the release.exe and any config/media file and move it to path/deploy/prj/ so i can zip it or share it instead of a path in my sensitive path/src area (bonus is i can share deploy if i want all projects to be available (and no source)) Using visual studio 2010 -edit- also i need some data in src/relatedprj/bin/*, to be copied into the root

• Slide through view controllers but not with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer

  Here is my issue, i got 5 view controllers and i can switch between them trough swipe with the UISwipeGestureRecognizer class and xcode's storyboard. So this works, but, i dont like the slide effect. I like to make it in a way so you can exactly slide the view to another by dragging it. For example, like this slider in JS: http://dimsemenov.com/plugins/royal-slider/ Can anyone send me in the right direction? I searched on the internet but i cant find any functions or tutorial on how to do this. Thanks in advance! Edit: Im not looking the scroll view.   I have to parse a big bunch of log files, which are in the following format. SOME SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB20000I The SQL command completed successfully. SOME OTHER SQL STATEMENT/QUERY DB21034E The command was processed as an SQL statement because it was not a valid Command Line Processor command. EDIT 1: The first 3 lines (including a blank line) indicate an SQL statement executed successfully, while the next three show the statement and the exception it caused. darioo's reply below, suggesting the use of grep instead of Java, works beautifully for a single line SQL statement. EDIT 2: However, the SQL statement/query might not be a single line, necessarily. Sometimes it is a big CREATE PROCEDURE...END PROCEDURE block. Can this problem be overcome using only Unix commands too? Now I need to parse through the entire log file and pick all occurrences of the pair of (SQL statement + error) and write them in a separate file. Please show me how to do this!

• Moving the table view and keep the toolbar visible?

  Hello, In my view I have a toolbar with a button at the top and a table view underneath, like in the following picture: An you can see there are text fields in the cells of the table view. The problem appears when I want to edit the tet fields which are in the bottom of the table view. As you can imagine the keyboard overlaps the text fields. Let say I want to edit the fields in the C section, the result is following: I tried different approaches for moving the table view, but I always end up with the toolbar being hidden. In one cae the toolbar was moving up with together with the table view, in the second case the table view overlaps the toolbar: All the ideas how to move the table view to make the cell being edited visible together with having the toolbar visible? How to move/resize the table view? Thanks!

  Hey All, Okay, so I have an iphone app that presents the user with a UIWebview of an html page with a form I created. The form has standard stuff like a message box and dropdown boxes. Once the user fills out the form and clicks submit, it saves the information as nsstrings in my program. Okay, no problem there. That all works fine. However, I also wanna be able to edit this form as well. Once I save all this information the user selected in the form (as strings), is there a way to put it back into an html form using an uiwebview so a user of the app can edit the info later on?? I apologize in advance if I didn't give enough info.

  Hi, I use VS2008 C# + Windows Forms. I can't understand why comboBox does not behave the way it should. In Design mode, I added a comboBox to my form, and edit Items to add "A" and "B". Double-clicking brings me to SelectedIndexChanged event, which I edit to display the selected text with MessageBox. private void comboBoxImageSet_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(comboBoxImageSet.SelectedText); } When I run, and select "A" or "B" in the comboBox, the MessageBox appears, but nothing is written. I'm kind of reluctant to modifying my ViewModel as it is very simple and easy to maintain as it is. Thank you.

  I am using a file as a cache for big data. One thread writes to it sequentially, another thread reads it sequentially. Can I be sure that all data that has been written (by write()) in one thread can be read() from another thread, assuming a proper "happens-before" relationship in terms of the Java memory model? Is this behavior documented? EDIT: In my JDK, FileOutputSream does not override flush(), and OutputStream.flush() is empty. That's why I'm wondering... EDIT^2: The streams in question are owned exclusively by a class that I have full control of. Each stream is guaranteed to be accesses by one thread only. My tests show that it works as expected, but I'm still wondering if this is guaranteed and documented. • visual studio 2008 keyboard gets locked when editing source controlled files

  Hi, I am facing a strange issue with editing source controlled files (especially aspx files) using visual studio 2008. when I check out and edit the file, I can edit fine for few seconds and after that keyboard gets locked and I can't type anything (it doesn't affect the files not added to source control). as soon it is locked, if I try to type, the focus shifts to solution explorer and other windows and sometimes it freezes and doesn't respond at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling visual studio, reinstalling the source control plug-in. none of it worked. not sure if it is my machine or my profile. Please help if you have any clues. I can't see any other solution for this except rebuilding the machine Thanks, Rama

Am I missing something obvious or is there something that could cause this? EDIT: Does this mean that if I fire an event that is not subscribed to in a client class I have to check that it is not null?   I have a inherited Listview which standard has to be in Tile Mode. When using this control, the DrawItem gives e.bounds which are clearly bounds of largeIcon view ?? When debugging to check the view it is actually set to, it says it's in Tile view ?? Yet e.DrawText draws LargeIcon view ?? ......... Edit: ................. This seems only to happen when the control is placed upon another usercontrol? ......... Edit 2: ................. It gets stranger ... When i add buttons next to the list to change the view at runtime, "Tile" is the same as "LargeIcon", and "List" view is the same as "SmallIcons" ??? I've also completely removed the ownerdraw ... .......... Edit 3: ................. MSDN Documentation: Tile view Each item appears as a full-sized icon with the item label and subitem information to the right of it. The subitem information that appears is specified by the application. This view is available only on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 family. On earlier operating systems, this value is ignored and the ListView control displays in the LargeIcon view. Well I am on XP ya damn liars ?!? • IE 8 and text fading

  I have a problem with fading text in IE 8, 7 and 6 (obviously). The text has a black outline during the animation that completely ruins the effect. Is there a workaround? I've read a bunch of answers about this problem and none made sense. Please take a look at this simple jsFiddle http://jsfiddle.net/LhSK7/ in IE 8, and show me how to fix it if possible. Edit: screenshot of the problem: http://i43.tinypic.com/1z6h1th.png I thought it might be because of the VirtualBox, but all other browsers display it correctly in VirtualBox. Edit #2: the problem can sort of be solved by setting the background color of the element being faded, which while still pretty ugly in IE 8 and below, at least gets rid of the black outline.

I am currently using rails 3.2.3 Basically I want to make basic routes like user/register on top of basic REST route for user.   I ran the following command at linux bash: apt-cache search hex.*(view|edit) My intention was to find any software packages whose name/description contains the pattern 'hex.*(view|edit)'. But among the results I got this: kipi-plugins - image manipulation/handling plugins for KIPI aware programs How could this be in the results list? I didn't see any matching string in this result. Is this a bug of the apt-cache search command? Or do I mis-understand how the regex is used by this command? Many thanks.

  Hi, I am working for a project on disaster management sponsered by World Bank, under this project i have assigned work on CMS. and my senior has asked me to make a ASP.NET webpage where those logged with administrator privilege will be able to edit the page. like:- <div id="mydiv"><pre>+++++++MY CONTENT+++++++++++++++++++</pre></div> now if if the admin clicks on mydiv he should be able to edit the pre contents. for this i got many options such as WYSIWYG editors (but they work on textboxs only and further more they cant save the data back to server replacing the previous content) then I came to know about Webparts , but its editing capabilities was so low that my plan for implementing a WYSIWYG editor went in vain. so I m seeking help from u all is their any way to achieve the motive, it would be better if u can suggest something like incorporating WYSIWYG into webpartmanager editor... • How to save text to a div using JavaScript onmouseout

  Good morning all. I have a div that I'm able to save text to when I click a save button but what I would like is if the text would just automatically save on an onmouseout event. For example: I have a div and two buttons (Save and Cancel). The user is currently able to mouse over the current text data inside the div, click on the text and they can then edit said text. The only way they can save this text is by clicking the save button. Is there a way to use onmouseout to save the text so that the user simply has to click and edit the text, then click away and have it saved? Thanks!

  I have a requirement to launch .dot files (ms word templates) as new documents from the browser... Let me explain... if you click on a .dot file in Windows Explorer it opens a new document and runs any macros... you can right click and edit the template... I want to link to the files, so I use <a href="file://myserver/templates/letter.dot">Letter</a>... However this then prompts for the "Download File" dialogue box... and then if I click "Open" it opens the template in edit mode... not the required new document mode... This may be a technical impossibility but can I achieve the desired result in ActiveX or something??

  I looked already and could't find anyting good. So a question is, are there any good web frameworks that would allow to easily develop GUI for the majority of high end phones? By this I mean It would have to work the same on majority of high end phones (forget the low cost ones) It would have to simplify the development and hide the ugly details from developer Clear design and good documentation. Also some stability on the market. The focus in on good looking and easy to make GUI. Javascript is only a plus. So basically I am looking for something like jQuery or maybe ExtJS for phone development. EDIT: It would be a big plus if it could be consumed in Delphi EDIT 2: If it was not clear, I am looking for a web base solution. So the target is HTML output and not native code.
