• Best/Most Comprehensive API for Stocks/Financial Data

  What is the most recommended free/public API for accessing financial market stats and stock quotes (preferrably real-time quotes)? I'm not too picky about how it's exposed (SOAP, REST, some proprietary XML setup, etc.), as long as it's got some decent documentation. I'm planning to build a simple web dashboard in PHP with some basic data (basically a quick-n-dirty homepage), but may want to grow it into a full blown web app eventually. Any thoughts? • Why is there no music streaming API service?

  Apple has decided to kill lala.com. I loved that site. Now, everyone has to go back to paying $0.89+ for songs from Amazon, iTunes, etc. Lame. Rhapsody would be great, except there are no clients for Mac or Linux. They do have a web interface, buy it is nothing compared to lala's web 2.0y interface. What I just don't understand is, why is there no music API streaming service out there? Basically, developers could hook the service into any desktop or web app, and then users of the app could pay $x a month (like with Rhapsody) and play any amount of music, so long as their subscription is active. Why not? Lala streamed music to web browsers, so surely it could be as secure as lala is (was), preventing music theft.

• JSON URL from StackExchange API returning jibberish?

  I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong here, but I'm not quite sure I'f I'm missing a step, or am just having an encoding problem or something.   My application is used RavenDB-Embedded Unstable 1.2.2127 that it's intracted with ASP .Net Web API in the separated assemblies. When I use "UseEmbeddedHttpServer = true" on the document store, first time I send a request to RavenDB, it executes properly but when I try for the second time my application displays Raven Studio. However, if UseEmbeddedServer setting be removed then my application will be running without any problems. My RavenDB is configured with the following codes in data tier : this.documentStore = new EmbeddableDocumentStore { ConnectionStringName = "RavenDB", UseEmbeddedHttpServer = true } and implementation of Web.config have these settings in the service tier : <connectionStrings> <add name="RavenDB" connectionString="~\App_Data\RavenDatabase" /> </connectionStrings> Is there a setting I missed?

  Hi The Facebook connect code is eluding me a bit. I have no problem doing a login, and a wall post, however, I simply can not figure out how the delegate methods for the FBDialog andFBStreamDialog is supposed to work. - (void)postToWall { FBStreamDialog *dialog = [[[FBStreamDialog alloc] init] autorelease]; dialog.delegate = self; dialog.userMessagePrompt = @"Enter your message:"; dialog.attachment = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"JSONpost code"]; [dialog show]; } I adhere to these protocols in my controller: <FBDialogDelegate, FBSessionDelegate, FBRequestDelegate> I then implement the two methods: - (void) dialogDidCancel:(FBDialog *)dialog { NSLog(@"Failed"); } - (void) dialogDidSucceed:(FBDialog *)dialog { NSLog(@"Success"); } After I tap "publish" and the postToWall methods is done executing the Facebook "pop up" in the UI is empty, except a small "X" in the top right corner and a "F" (facebook logo) in the top left corner. The UI will stay there until I tap the "X", this results in the dialogDidCancel delegate method being called. The post data is showing up on the Facebook page, everything seems to work. Why is thedialogDidSucceedmethod never called? I need this to release my facebook controller and restore the UI back to where the user was before "starting" FB Connect. Thank You:)

  I am having a site and I want to add a button in my site that will link to the twitter login page and after login it will post a message to the Twitter home page of the user. I used this code: http://www.matpal.com/2010/12/oauth-access-token-in-twitter-api.html and it works fine. My problem is that before posting the message I want to be able to edit it. So after login I want to see my message in an editing input (like retween do,here: http://www.mobilemarketer.com/cms/news/search/10263.html ) and post it after clicking Tweet.   Hi, My Rails webapp uses tardate's excellent authlogic_rpx gem so that users can register and sign in using their Twitter or Facebook account. Now I need to update a user Twitter or Facebook status. Which gem should I use for Twitter? and for Facebook? Or should I prefer Net::HTTP for both? Since the users authorised my app through authlogic_rpx, do I already have this authorised token to use the Twitter and Facebook APIs? If so, where can I find it? Thanks, Kevin

• Handling session between two pages in iframe-based facebook app.

  I'm a newbie to iframe based facebook application and stuck with session related problems. There are just two pages in my app. First page got many fb_sig_* parameters from facebook platform but when I click a anchor to next page, those fb_sig_* were lost because this is just direct request from end user's browser not from facebook. So I found that http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?id=52885. It was told that I should not using cookie and always append every fb_sig* to every anchor. This can be the only solution for my problems? Any side effect like session expiry problem?

• Simple XML parsing with Google Picasa API and JQuery

  I'm starting to look into Google's Picasa API for photo data, which provides you with a big XML file with info about albums and photos. I'm doing some quick and dirty tests to parse the XML file (which is saved locally to my hard drive for now) with JQuery and pull out the album id's, which are stored as "gphoto:id" tags, and display them in a div: $(document).ready(function() { $.get( 'albums.xml', function(data) { $(data).find('entry').each(function() { var albumId = $(this).children('gphoto:id').text(); $('#photos').append(albumId + '<br />'); }) }) }) I'm getting the following error in the console: jquery.js:3321 - Uncaught Syntax error, unrecognized expression: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: id This will work with other tags in the XML file (such as title, author, updated, etc.), but I'm trying to understand what's going on here. Does it have to do with the colon in "gphoto:id", somehow?

  Sorry for the cumbersome title. I have a Facebook canvas app that is call up a Wordpress site in an iFrame. This is fine and works as hoped but is there a way to link directly to a page within it? For example the page I want to reach is actually: www.blog.com/monkeys/ But I want to be able to use a link like this: www.facebook.com/monkeyblogapp/app_243495067635997/monkeys/ So that I can give out that URL and get people to see the right bit of content but within the Facebook environment. I have seen people mention callback urls (like this one which as far as I can tell just means having the app addresses match the website Direct links to pages in Facebook iFrame application?) but that doesn't work. What I can't do is come up with a compelling argument against either. A is clean - any user will no where to go to find out a property value. It can evolve cleanly without leaving dead interfaces around. B has type checking to a degree - this is C enums! Is there a big hitter argument that pushes the balance away from opinion?

  We are developing XML over HTTP service and we need a way to document the XML interface. Our supported XMLs generally are subsets of some industry standard XML API, which unfortunately lacks any good documentation. It has XSDs though with some annotations, so we use this go generate the initial documentation and then remove the unsupported parts and refine the result. But this process is tedious and the results aren't at all great. Any suggestion about documentation formats and tools? I prefer to have HTML output and possibly more, e.g. PDF. Oh, and we are mixed Linux and Windows shop, so the tools should work well on both.

  I have a large flex application (the app) running on one server, and many small flex applications (widgets) running on another server, which are to be included in the app so that visually the user see's one continuous application. Due to proprietary third party software, this structure cannot be changed. I am looking for some way to allow the app and the widgets to communicate, allowing the app to make changes to the widgets and the the widgets to notify the app when events are triggered, so that user interaction is fluid and continuous. There are a few related questions which indicate it's possible to do this by setting up event triggers and listeners. I am wondering if there is any standardized way to do this (the answers aren't very clear) or if anyone has developed a library or API to make this easier.

  Hey, I'm experiencing some problems with Google's social graph API. It seems that for some parameters passed to 'otherme' nothing is returned. I'll use Robert Scoble's profiles as an example (as he's a guy sure to be everywhere on the web). If I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://twitter.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 I get results, as expected. However, if I query: http://socialgraph.apis.google.com/otherme?q=http://delicious.com/scobleizer&pretty=1 Nothing is returned, even though 'http://delicious.com/scobleizer' is listed in the previous results...   When I send the following query http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=coffee%20New%20York%20NY using c# WebClient.DownloadString function or ordinary web browser I get JSON data which is different from data for the same query using JavaScript and Google AJAX Search API. From REST service I get the following url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source003duds0026q003dcoffee0026cid003d13245583795745066822 but from JavaScript query I get this url field http://www.google.com/maps/place?source=uds&q=coffee&cid=13245583795745066822 The problem with REST service answer is that the url it gives points to a web page with error message "We currently do not support the location". What am I doing wrong?

For example : Not returning any results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="%23ipad+AND+%23ipod"+OR+"%23joke+AND+%23funny"&rpp=100&callback=? Returning results : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q="ipad+AND+ipod"+OR+"joke+AND+funny"&rpp=100&callback=? But there's results with #ipod AND #ipad because when I search only for #ipod, I can see a lot of posts with both hashtags. Example : http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=%23ipad&rpp=100&callback=? P.S. %23 = # Any idea?

  Hi all, I am beginning to use the google data api (specifically for the finance app). I can read my portfolio's just fine, so I am authenticating correctly (or so I think). However, when i try and create a portfolio, I get a 'feed is read-only' error. The credentials are legit, and I can get my current portfolios without a problem.

I currently overrided the as_json method in my model in order to be able to get attached files as well as logo from Paperclip : def as_json( options = {} ) super.merge(logo_small: self.logo.url(:small), logo_large: self.logo.url(:large), taxe: self.taxe, attachments: self.attachments) end Then within my controller, I'm doing : def index @products = current_user.products respond_with @products end def show respond_with @product end The problem is that on the index, I don't want get all the attachments. I only need it on the show method. So I tried it : def index @products = current_user.products respond_with @products, except: [:attachments] end But unfortunately it's not working. How can I do to not send :attachments? Thanks
