  • Directory Browsing on Apache

    I am listing a couple of stuff that I want people to download for my school and remembered that some sites had directory browsing done with cool little icons displaying the file types. I wanted to do this myself and felt that the default directory browsing of apache is just too plain and IndexOptions +FancyIndexing is a bit 'old'. Any nice jQuery based Web 2.0ish stuff out there for this particular purpose. The files are .debs, .exes, .iso, .zip etc. Thanks!

  • Restrict programs from accessing the Internet

    I have a 256 kbit/s Internet connection. Most often, I find that the browsing speed is too slow. I have to use TCPView (SysInternals) to find out which program is accessing the Internet without my knowledge and terminate it. Previously I was using ZoneAlarm to control Internet access by installed programs. But as it doesn't work for Windows 7, I'm left with no option. Is there any other tool which serves the purpose?

    I have a number of Linux webservers for which I'd like to track where disk space is going and keep disk space to a minimum. Typically I login on SSH and use du to find out where disk space is wasted but this is cumbersome and slow. A visualisation tool like KDirStat would be ideal, but it requires installing an X server at the very least, which kind of defeats the purpose. Is there any web-based disk space visualizer? I'm open to alternative solutions.

    I'm looking for a program that will perform schematic capture and mixed-mode (analog and digital) circuit simulation. If it also did PCB layout and routing, that would be a bonus, but not necessary. I currently use an old version of CircuitMaker/TraxMaker, but its dated, and the simulation engine is a bit lacking. Windows or Linux, doesn't really matter. What is a good program for this purpose?

  • Index a set of files to search their text quickly?

    I have a unique need: I am frequently searching a large set of text files for a keyword. Right now, I open up Notepad++ and use the "Find in files" feature. It works just fine, but with the amount of files, each search takes several minutes to complete. Is there a good program more suited for this purpose, perhaps that indexes a set of files and then lets you search the set repeatedly and very quickly? It would greatly speed up my workflow.

    I occasionally notice in Resource Monitor hard disk activity related to ETL files in the folder C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup. Which process/service creates these ETL files and what is their purpose? Resource Monitor shows "System" as the process which is correct since ETW traces (that is what ETL files are) are created by the kernel. But I am interested in the process that causes the traces to be created. This happens on Windows 7, by the way.

I see people have suggested for NOD32 or Kaspersky but they are not offering Internet security for one server in business edition (it starts with at least 5 PC) and they says I can't install home edition on my VPS as this is for business purpose.     I can successfully attach disks to a running KVM instance using virsh attach-disk... virsh attach-disk node-1 /dev/vg_lunsr/lun1 vdb Disk attached successfully ...but these new devices aren't seen by the guest without a reboot, which almost defeats the purpose of dynamic attachment. If these were SCSI devices I would use e.g. /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan to request the SCSI drivers to scan for new devices. Is there an equivalent capability for the virtio block driver?
