  • XNA or C# Pop-up progress bar for the LoadContent() method

    Hey people, We wrote a small game using Microsoft's XNA Game Studio 3.1. The LoadContent() takes a long time because, other than loading models, and config files, we're also running some one-time (per run) terrain analysis. We are not C# or XNA programmers... we're Java programmers, and want to be able to give the user some feedback that the system is loading. Preferably, this will be through a simple pop-up with a progress bar that will say something simple like "loading please wait". The progress bar doesn't have to be a 0 to 1 progress bar, it can instead be one of those 'back and forth' progress bars. I was hoping for some quick copy-paste ready code to just do that - as it is not a central piece of our project, nor do we have a need to delve into too much documentation.     Hello, I have completed a simple database for a project. Only 6tables. Of the 6, one is a "lookup" table. There is one "master" table that is the driver for the system. It is referenced as a foreign key by the other four tables. Give that this step is completed. What is the FASTEST, EASIEST way to create POCOs/BizObjects that can load load the data and the child data. Here are my CAVEATS. *I don't want to spend more than 30-60 minutes learning how? *There is very little biz logic needed in the POCOs. They will pretty much load data. Don't even really need to write back data. *I already know CSLA (up to version 3) but I feel that is overkill for this little project. *Nevertheless, I would love it if it ROOT objects could have collection classes that contain the CHILD objects as in CSLA...but again, without using CSLA. *Please give the answer for .NET 35 but also if I was restricted to only use .NET 20. *Ideally I could just point a tool at the database and the POCOs would be genn'ed. *FREE Just curious what you guys use for this kind of scenario. I understand that this question is subjective but I want to hear a variety of answers. Seth

I don't know why, I followed all instructions to link the libraries and nothing seems to be working. I might be missing something simple through my anger (I've been trying to run sample code for a week, nothing has been working), so can anybody throw me a bone?

  • Permission error while trying to access Sql from a web method

    I created a web service which has a few web methods which inturn performs inserts/updates/select from a Sql Server and return non-primitive types. To test the web methods I tried using the Open source tool .net web service studio When I test for the web methods, I get the following error - Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I searched for solutions and I tried a lot of approaches like setting up the permission levels, the trust level in config file etc. But the error still persists. Can anyone tell me what could be the reason for this error? I have tried toggling the permissions at all levels - Sql Server, web service etc. How can I fix this error?

    Hi, For various reasons, i'm trying to write my own input keyboard. So far all is going well except that of creating the suggestions. I've found the latinIME algorithm, which is all good. However i'm having major difficulty working out how to load the dictionary in the first place. I've had a good look round the net, and found various suggestions, but no definitive answers, and i cant seem to get any of them to work.     As I was writing a for loop earlier today, I thought that there must be a neater way of doing this... so I figured I'd ask. I looked briefly for a duplicate question but didn't see anything obvious. The Problem: Given N arrays of length M, turn them into a M-row by N-column 2D array Example: $id = [1,5,2,8,6] $name = [a,b,c,d,e] $result = [[1,a], [5,b], [2,c], [8,d], [6,e]] My Solution: Pretty straight forward and probably not optimal, but it does work: <?php // $row is returned from a DB query // $row['<var>'] is a comma separated string of values $categories = array(); $ids = explode(",", $row['ids']); $names = explode(",", $row['names']); $titles = explode(",", $row['titles']); for($i = 0; $i < count($ids); $i++) { $categories[] = array("id" => $ids[$i], "name" => $names[$i], "title" => $titles[$i]); } ?> note: I didn't put the name = value bit in the spec, but it'd be awesome if there was some way to keep that as well.

    Here I have the following bit of code: private IList<IState> _states = new List<IState>(); private ReadOnlyCollection<IState> _statesViewer; public IList<IState> States { get { return _statesViewer; } } Generally it is preferable to return interfaces than the concrete classes themselves, but in this case, shouldn't I set as the return type of the States property a ReadOnlyCollection? Any user of my library will think it is possible to anything you can do with an IList if I set it as so, and that means adding elements. That is not true and I'm definitely breaking the contract exposing it as an IList. Am I right with this view or there is something else I am missing here?

  • best method of turning millions of x,y,z positions of particles into visualisation

    I'm interested in different algorithms people use to visualise millions of particles in a box. I know you can use Cloud-In-Cell, adaptive mesh, Kernel smoothing, nearest grid point methods etc to reduce the load in memory but there is very little documentation on how to do these things online. i.e. I have array with: x,y,z 1,2,3 4,5,6 6,7,8 xi,yi,zi for i = 100 million for example. I don't want a package like Mayavi/Paraview to do it, I want to code this myself then load the decomposed matrix into Mayavi (rather than on-the-fly rendering) My poor 8Gb Macbook explodes if I try and use the particle positions. Any tutorials would be appreciated.

  • Method for exporting drawn flash/flex UIComponent to vector based print file

    Hi, I am creating a flex application where I am using the built in graphics package of flex 3 to draw shapes and things to a UIComponent. I want to be able to export this vector image UIComponent to a vector based file, pdf, eps etc. Are there any tools, libraries, or methods for doing so? I looked at AlivePDF - which works very slick, but its output is effectively a snapshot of the UIComponent drawn out as a bitmap to the PDF. I want true vector output, as this image is for print, needs to be able to scale and be color correct. I read somewhere that it may be possible with Adobe Live Cycle, but in looking at the documentation I'm not sure how to use it. Another possibility is to submit the final image parameters to a server-side PHP script that would re-generate the image in SVG format. But as I understand SVG is not ideal for print, and this is lots of extra work. Any thoughts, ideas, methods? Thanks!

Then session associated with this object is closed. But still, I serialize my object and on the next step deserialize it, invoke some setters, and again, I need to update what changed in a database. What methods of Hibernate session should I use? persist() or save() on the first step and saveOrUpdate() on the second? In fact I see that saveOrUpdate() can be used on each step. What would you recommend?

    Hi, I have a simple question regarding xcode coding but don't know why things are not performing as I think. I have an array of objects (custom objects). I just want to check if this one is within the array. I used the following code: NSArray *collection = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:A, B, C, nil]; //custom "Item" objects Item *tempItem = [[Fruit alloc] initWithLength:1 width:2 height:3]; //3 instance variables in "Item" objects if([collection containsObject:tempItem]) { NSLog(@"collection contains this item"); } I suppose the above checking will give me a positive result but it's not. Further, I checked whether the objects created are the same. NSLog(@"L:%i W:%i H:%i", itemToCheck.length, itemToCheck.width, itemToCheck.height); for (int i = 0, i < [collection count], i++) { Item *itemInArray = [collection objectAtIndex:i]; NSLog(@"collection contains L:%i W:%i H:%i", itemInArray.length, itemInArray.width, itemInArrayheight); } In the console, this is what I got: L:1 W:2 H:3 collection contains L:0 W:0 H:0 collection contains L:1 W:2 H:3 collection contains L:6 W:8 H:2 Obviously the tempItem is inside the collection array but nothing shows up when I use containsObject: to check it.
