  • What's the best way to paginate a dataset with Zend_Framework and Doctrine?

    Before I start to build this myself I thought I'd ask others to share their experience. What's the best / your favorite way to paginate a dataset with an application built upon Zend_Framework and Doctrine as your ORM? I'm new to Doctrine. I'm calling the model directly from a View Helper, bypassing the Controller, although I'm still interested if your solution uses controllers. I did see one article on this topic: http://ciaranmcnulty.com/blog/2009/06/Simplify-pagination-logic-using-a-custom-zend-paginator-adapter Devzone has an article using Doctrine, Zend Framework OR Pear, but none of those options mention a #ZF app that uses Doctrine.

  • Polling duplex does not scale... what's the alternative?

    Our tests showed that the polling duplex binding simply does not scale and can not be used on a service within a web-farm or even a web garden. We have looked at TCP/IP sockets for a client push method, but the firewall issue is does allow us to use sockets. I was wondering what is the alternative "free" solution to this problem? allowing us to scale and allowing us to push data to client... I have also tried the solution in this article http://tomasz.janczuk.org/2009/09/scale-out-of-silverlight-http-polling.html but at the end, there was too much polling on a database, and performance was affected. Our Silverlight application need a pub/sub design, but it needs to be reliable and scalable... any ideas?

  • EC2 instance suddenly refusing SSH connections and won't respond to ping

    My instance was running fine and this morning I was able to access a Ruby on Rails app hosted on it. An hour later I suddenly wasn't able to access my site, my SSH connection attempts were refused and the server wasn't even responding to ping. I didn't change anything on my system during that hour and reboots aren't fixing it. I've never had any problems connecting or pinging the system before. Can someone please help?     Hi folks, I am planning to start a computer vision based project on a smart phone platform. I know iPhone ( http://niw.at/articles/2009/03/14/using-opencv-on-iphone/en ) and Andriod ( http://github.com/billmccord/OpenCV-Android ) have openCV support. I am interested in knowing how was your experience with the level of integration, support and ease of building good apps on either platform. Also I do want to consider windows phone 7 ( and Zune) as a platform, Are there any Computer Vision libraries for that platform or any good development tools( does Aforgenet work or any other good suggestion) ?   • Opening AFOpenFlowView already in landscape mode

    I'm using the open source CoverFlow replacement from here: http://fajkowski.com/blog/2009/08/02/openflow-a-coverflow-api-replacement-for-the-iphone/ When I detect that a certain view has gone from portrait to landscape mode, I instantiate an AFCoverFlowView and push it onto the navigation stack. If I do so in response to (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation The cover flow view comes up as though the phone were still in portrait mode. If I push the view in response to (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation it works perfectly - the view comes up in landscape mode with the phone in landscape mode Unfortunately, the device doesn't reliable get willRotateToInterfaceOrientation messages. I have tried making sure that [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; is in loadView but that doesn't help with the notificiations. So, my questions are: Is there a way to reliably get willRotateToInterfactOrientation? if not How do I instruct AFCoverFlowView to come up in landscape mode (if the device is already in landscape mode)

  • SharePoint Lookup Field 20 Item JS error

    Hi Everyone, I've got an issue with SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 which seems to be documented in various forms, but I haven't been able to find an answer to my seemingly simpler question. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/040533d2-c738-4ac2-b2d6-65a1602fa2d1 Essentially, we have a form with a lookup field to another SharePoint list. The lookup field has more than 20 items, and so SharePoint changes the type/behaviour of the field as per the standard behaviour. However, with my custom skin applied, clicking on this drop down causes a JS error from within the Core.js file, as described here: http://splitnut.blogspot.com/2009/06/lookup-fields-in-moss-javascript-error.html What I haven't been able to figure out is why this is only an issue when my custom master page is applied, and not the OOTB master pages. I've been through and tried to see what might cause this, but haven't been able to track down the cause of the behaviour. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

It appears I was doing something wrong with the suggestions and at this point have come up with an error when using the suggested API to get the media size. I placed a second method button on the form so I can write a different set of code into the app if I feel like it. Only minimal error handling and safeguards are there is nothing that wasn't necessary for debugging this via source. I tried this on a Sony Memory Stick using a PSP as the reader because I cant find the adapter for using a duo in my machine. The target is an MS and half of my users use a PSP for a reader half dont. However this should work fine on SD cards and that is a secondary target for my work as well. I tried this on a usb memory card reader and several SD cards. Now that I have fixed my attempt I get an error returned. 50 ERROR_NOT_SUPPORTED The request is not supported. I have found an application that uses this API as well as alot of related functions for what I am trying todo. I am getting ready to look into it the application is called DriveImage and its source is here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/diskimage/ The only thing I have really noticed from that application is there use of TFileStream and using that to get a handle on the physical disk.

    Hello, I have a form that (amongst other things) contains 2 multi-select listboxes. Basically you can add items to the one on the right from the full list of items on the left using some add/remove buttons. The problem is that I cannot see a way of picking up the contents of the listbox when posting back to the controller.     hi, i am trying to do this: 1) user long touches the screen, 2) a circle/ball pops up (centered around the user's finger) and grows in size as long as the user is touching the screen 3) once the user lets go of the finger, the ball (now in its final size) will bounce around. i think i have the bouncing around figure out from the DivideAndConquer example, but i am not sure how to animate the ball's growth. i looked at various view flipper examples such as this: http://www.inter-fuser.com/2009/08/android-animations-3d-flip.html but it seems like view flipper is best for swapping two static pictures. i wasn't able to find a good view animator example other than the flippers. also, i would prefer to use images as opposed to just a circle. can someone point me in the right direction? thanks.

    I am maintaining this servlet that has a HttpServletResponse response that replies back to the client an XML message. I want to take the XML message and convert it to JSON, then send the JSON back. I want to avoid writing my own JSON converter if possible. Does anyone have a good method of doing this? But when I embed the .swf file into a HTML page, the application's background color covers the whole screen, and when the Flash Player Settings message box pops up it is outside of the area I defined in the code above.   • plupload variable upload path?

    Hi all, I'm using plupload to upload files to my server (http://www.plupload.com/index.php), however I wanted to know if there was any way of making the upload path variable. Basically I need to select the upload path folder first, then choose the files using plupload and then upload to the initially selected folder. I've tried a few different ways but I can't seem to pass along the variable folder path to the upload.php file. I'm using the flash version of plupload.   • How can i have a div stuck on the left side of the page no matter how much i scroll horizontally?

    This is kind of difficult to explain so ill link to a page that has the effect i need; http://wpaoli.building58.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/feedback-panel.html The feedback thing on the left side is what im trying to implement on my side, instead of feedback im going to use it as a navigation menu that shows up when clicked on. the things above is what i have right now. my problem is when i scroll to the right ( my page is around 6000px wide ) i want it to stay on the left side, is there a way to pull this off? (this is to much for my brain to handle)..thanks!

    Hi I develop in Visual Studio 2008 a lot and would like to find an addin like vsphp which enables intellisense and debugging in Visual Studio. Is IronStudio what I am looking for? As far as I understand IronStudio is a Plugin for .NET. If there is no Plugin for Visual Studio 2008 whats a great IDE for a python newbee who loves Visual Studio (hate netbeans and eclipse sorry just don't feel the love) Also if IronPython Studio is an IDE do I want the Isolated or Integrated Version?
