  • What's the state of PHP unit testing frameworks in 2010?

    As far as I can see, PHPUnit is the only serious product in the field at the moment. It is widely used, is integrated into Continuous Integration suites like phpUnderControl, and well regarded. The thing is, I don't really like working with PHPUnit. I find it hard to set up (PEAR is the only officially supported installation method, and I hate PEAR), sometimes complicated to work with and, correct me if I'm wrong, lacking executability from a web page context (i.e. no CLI, which would really be nice when developing a web app.) The only competition to I can see is Simpletest, which looks very nice but hasn't seen a new release for almost two years, which tends to rule it out for me - Unit Testing is quite a static field, true, but as I will be deploying those tests alongside web applications, I would like to see active development on the project, at least for security updates and such. There is a SO question that pretty much confirms what I'm saying: Simple test vs PHPunit Seeing that that is almost two years old as well, though, I think it's time to ask again: Does anybody know any other serious feature-complete unit testing frameworks? Am I wrong in my criticism of PHPUnit? Is there still development going on for SimpleTest?

  • Which .NET exception to throw for invalid database state?

    I am writing some data access code and I want to check for potentially "invalid" data states in the database. For instance, I am returning a widget out of the database and I only expect one. If I get two, I want to throw an exception. Even though referential integrity should prevent this from occurring, I do not want to depend on the DBAs never changing the schema. I would like to use the System.IO.InvalidDataException, except that I am not dealing with a file stream so it would be misleading. I ended up going with a generic applicationexception. Anyone have a better idea?

  • Working with Form Array's in Coldfusion?

    I have no idea how to handle this in coldfusion 9, I have a form being submitted (POST) with element checkboxes, called items[]. When I do a <cfdump var="#form#" /> no-problem, I get all the items shown with the proper names like items[] eg: struct ITEMS[] 13,14 FIELDNAMES ITEMS[] however doing a <cfdump var="#form.items[]#" /> results in an error. How do I access the CF9 field values? Somehow loop through it? I cannot seem to do anything with the array to get the id's out of it? Thoughts, I'm kindof stumped and coldfusion isn't the easiest language to find examples / references on the net ;) Is there a correct way to deal with this? I need to get the ID's out of there so I can referenc what lines were checked in the form, so I can follow up with an action. Thanks!

My question is this: what is the best way to handle the situation when a search engine visits a URL corresponding to a removed article? Should the app respond with a permanent redirect (301 Moved Permanently) to a "article not found" page, or is there a better way to handle this?

Basically, if the user chooses a subject from a from a drop-down list, I want to auto-populate the page with a set of book details. However, I've built the Ajax from Google results and bits of string. I don't know if what I've done is up-to-date, or whether there are now much neater ways of doing it!   • Can I batch based on a Property (not just Items)?

    I have a property group, like so: <PropertyGroup> <Platform>Win32;x64</Platform> </PropertyGroup> And I want to batch in an Exec task, like so: <Exec Command='devenv MySolution.sln /Build "Release|%(Platform)"' /> But of course, as written I get an error: error MSB4095: The item metadata %(Platform) is being referenced without an item name. Specify the item name by using %(itemname.Platform). Can I batch tasks on properties that are lists? I suppose I could hack it by creating a placeholder ItemGroup with metadata and batch on that.

Currently the process is using Adobe Photoshop and droplets (very manual, taking upwards of two hours a day) Using SSIS hot folders, is there a way to execute up to eight conversions at once? Is there any way to tell a process completed or execute code upon it's completion?

  • "FOR UPDATE" v/s "LOCK IN SHARE MODE" : Allow concurrent threads to read updated "state" value of locked row

    I have the following scenario: User X logs in to the application from location lc1: call it Ulc1 User X (has been hacked, or some friend of his knows his login credential, or he just logs in from a different browser on his machine,etc.. u got the point) logs in at the same time from location lc2: call it Ulc2 I am using a main servlet which : - gets a connection from database pooling - sets autocommit to false - executes a command that goes through app layers: if all successful, set autocommit to true in a "finally" statement, and closes connection. Else if an exception happens, rollback(). In my database (mysql/innoDb) i have a "history" table, with row columns: id(primary key) |username | date | topic | locked The column "locked" has by default value "false" and it serves as a flag that marks if a specific row is locked or not. Each row is specific to a user (as u can see from the username column) So back to the scenario: --Ulc1 sends the command to update his history from the db for date "D" and topic "T". --Ulc2 sends the same command to update history from the db for the same date "D" and same topic "T" at the exact same time. I want to implement an mysql/innoDB locking system that will enable whichever thread arriving to do the following check: Is column "locked" for this row true or not? if true, return a message to the user that " he is already updating the same data from another location" if not true (ie not locked) : flag it as locked and update then reset locked to false once finished. Which of these two mysql locking techniques, will actually allow the 2nd arriving thread from reading the "updated" value of the locked column to decide wt action to take?Should i use "FOR UPDATE" or "LOCK IN SHARE MODE"? This scenario explains what i want to accomplish: - Ulc1 thread arrives first: column "locked" is false, set it to true and continue updating process - Ulc2 thread arrives while Ulc1's transaction is still in process, and even though the row is locked through innoDb functionalities, it doesn't have to wait but in fact reads the "new" value of column locked which is "true", and so doesn't in fact have to wait till Ulc1 transaction commits to read the value of the "locked" column(anyway by that time the value of this column will already have been reset to false). I am not very experienced with the 2 types of locking mechanisms, what i understand so far is that LOCK IN SHARE MODE allow other transaction to read the locked row while FOR UPDATE doesn't even allow reading. But does this read gets on the updated value? or the 2nd arriving thread has to wait the first thread to commit to then read the value? Any recommendations about which locking mechanism to use for this scenario is appreciated.   • how to get powershell to look for files in other folders when moving items?

Looks like I am missing something here because when I run the script, it is only looking for .zqx files in current directory and not all the drives. Please note that the ( dir $paths..) part is returning the list of .zqx files promptly.   • Can a webflow's action state have multiple redirects on success?

    Say, I have this type of webflow: def myFlow = { state1 { } on("next").to("stateAct") stateAct { action { ... DB stuff ... } } on("success").to("state2") state2 { } on("prev").to("state1") } Now, the contents of "stateAct" is common between state1 and state2. Meaning, if I press "next" from state1, I need to pass by stateAct before I can go to state2 (which is the current implementation) and if I press "prev" in state2, I need it to pass by stateAct before it goes to state1. Obviously, in the sample webflow above, it doesn't do the latter. So, my question is, is there a way to detect in stateAct who called it (state1 or state2) so that I can redirect accordingly on "success"? Or something similar to that behavior? Thanks! -Lee

  • When the current toolbar is touched previous toolbar items are activated.

    I have a UIToolBar *toolbar1. I have 3 buttons on the toolbar. And the tool bar is at the bottom of the view. The buttons are like library button, moreApps button, recordVideo button. If I touch the library button a new view(a UITableViewController) appears. I used presentModelViewController for it. If I touch moreApps button a new view (a UIViewController) appears and it loaded from http//. The recordButton touch gives another UIViewController view. When the moreApps button is touched and the view is loaded, it have the content from web and a UIToolBar *toolbar2 at the bottom the view. It has a refresh button and done button. The problem is when I touch the toolbar2 (not on the refresh button and done button) the previous views button are activated and corresponding views of previous buttons(library button, playVideo button) are loaded. I am not able to understand about this problem. Thank you.
