  • Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 can't access the internet

    Our 64-bit windows server can no longer access the internet although it is a web-server that is hosting webpages accessible by the internet. Since this dilemma the server can no longer receive windows updates or Symantec virus definitions. We have checked our firewalls so nothing is blocked. Any insight on why this issue happened would be appreciated. Also the server is running IE6 which we have been trying to update.

  • CPU's on Hyper-V host system is just idling, even though VM's are at full throttle

    Hello, I have a server that is running Windows 2008 64 bit Hyper-V, with 8 gigs of RAM and Intel Xeon X3440 @ 2.53 Ghz, which gives me 8 logical cores in the performance monitor on the host system. I have set up three Virtual Machines, all running Windows 2008 32 bit. Build server, running Team City Staging server SQL Server, running SQL Server 2005 These three machines are running very sluggishly, they are at 100% cpu even though the host system is barely using any cpu at all, typically below 10% total. Could anyone please give some tips as to the best setup for CPU allocating? Should I have set each server to have two cores, or should I increase this number above the total number of cores on the host? What is a good number to set on the Virtual Machine Reserve and Virtual Machine Limit? Is 8 gigs of physical RAM insufficient for 3 VM's? Thanks for reading. :)

  • IIS can't load Oracle.Web assembly (for ASP.NET membership provider)

    I am trying to configure an IIS web site to use an Oracle database for ASP.NET membership, but I can't get it to work. IIS doesn't seem to be able to load the assembly containing the Oracle membership provider. That's what I have so far: An Oracle 10g database online and with all the tables for ASP.NET membership created. Windows 2008 R2 Standard with the web server role installed, including support for ASP.NET. Oracle 11g Release 2 ODAC 11.2.0.1.2 installed. The installed components are: Oracle data provider for .NET, Oracle providers for ASP.NET, Oracle instant client. The default web site on IIS (I am using that for testing) has the following web.config file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configuration> <system.web> <membership defaultProvider="OracleMembershipProvider"> <providers> <remove name="SqlMembershipProvider" /> <add name="OracleMembershipProvider" type="Oracle.Web.Security.OracleMembershipProvider, Oracle.Web, Version=2.112.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" connectionStringName="OracleServer" /> </providers> </membership> </system.web> </configuration> (Additional attributes on the "add" element omitted for brevity. Also, the connection string is defined for the whole server.) The Oracle.Web.dll file is on the GAC. That's the relevant part of the C:\Windows\Assembly folder: The web site application pool is configured for .NET 2.0, and has 32-bit applications enabled. I have allowed untrusted providers in the IIS' administration.config file (just for the sake of testing, I'll explicitly add the assembly to the trusted providers list later). With all of this setup in place, when I click on the ".NET Users" icon on the IIS manager, I get a warning about the provider having too much privileges, and when I accept I get the following message: There was an error while performing this operation. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.Web, Version=2.112.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. So, what am I missing? How can I get the Oracle membership provider to work? Thank you! UPDATE: It seems that the problem is not with IIS itself, but with the IIS administrator only. When using the web site configuration tool provided by Visual Studio, everything works fine.

  • Oracle’s Sun Server X4-8 with Built-in Elastic Computing

    We are excited to announce the release of Oracle's new 8-socket server, Sun Server X4-8. It’s the most flexible 8-socket x86 server Oracle has ever designed, and also the most powerful. Not only does it use the fastest Intel® Xeon® E7 v2 processors, but also its memory, I/O and storage subsystems are all designed for maximum performance and throughput. Like its predecessor, the Sun Server X4-8 uses a “glueless” design that allows for maximum performance for Oracle Database, while also reducing power consumption and improving reliability. The specs are pretty impressive. Sun Server X4-8 supports 120 cores (or 240 threads), 6 TB memory, 9.6 TB HDD capacity or 3.2 TB SSD capacity, contains 16 PCIe Gen 3 I/O expansion slots, and allows for up to 6.4 TB Sun Flash Accelerator F80 PCIe Cards. The Sun Server X4-8 is also the most dense x86 server with its 5U chassis, allowing 60% higher rack-level core and DIMM slot density than the competition.  There has been a lot of innovation in Oracle’s x86 product line, but the latest and most significant is a capability called elastic computing. This new capability is built into each Sun Server X4-8.   Elastic computing starts with the Intel processor. While Intel provides a wide range of processors each with a fixed combination of core count, operational frequency, and power consumption, customers have been forced to make tradeoffs when they select a particular processor. They have had to make educated guesses on which particular processor (core count/frequency/cache size) will be best suited for the workload they intend to execute on the server.Oracle and Intel worked jointly to define a new processor, the Intel Xeon E7-8895 v2 for the Sun Server X4-8, that has unique characteristics and effectively combines the capabilities of three different Xeon processors into a single processor. Oracle system design engineers worked closely with Oracle’s operating system development teams to achieve the ability to vary the core count and operating frequency of the Xeon E7-8895 v2 processor with time without the need for a system level reboot.  Along with the new processor, enhancements have been made to the system BIOS, Oracle Solaris, and Oracle Linux, which allow the processors in the system to dynamically clock up to faster speeds as cores are disabled and to reach higher maximum turbo frequencies for the remaining active cores. This include the ability to create an "application server" connection to GlassFish and then deploy to that server with one click from inside JDeveloper. You can use this for deploying Oracle ADF Essentials application on Glassfish, but you can also use it to deploy any Java EE application you build in JDeveloper on GlassFish. However, if you are planning to work with GlassFish and JDeveloper on a more regular basis as your development server, then you might find my new extension useful. The new extension allows you to start and stop an external GlassFish instance, as well as start it in debug mode (which will allow JDeveloper to remotely debug your application as it runs on the server.   • Oracle User Productivity Kit Translation

    Oracle's customers just love the User Productivity Kit (UPK). I hear only great things about it from our international customers at the Oracle Usability Advisory Board meetings too. The UPK is the perfect solution for enterprise applications training needs (I previously reviewed a fine book about UPK btw). One question I am often asked is how source content created using the UPK can be translated into another language. I spoke with Peter Maravelias, Principal Product Strategy Manager for UPK about this recently. UPK is already optimized for easy source-target translation already. There is even a solution for re-recording demos. Here's what you can do to get your source content into another language: Use UPK's ability to automatically translate events and actions. UPK comes with XML templates that allow you to accomplish this in 21 languages with a simple publishing action switch. These templates even deal with the tricky business of using gender-based translations. Spanish localization template sample Japanese localization template sample Use the Import and Export localization features to export additional custom content in a format like XLIFF, easily handled by translation tools. You could also export and import in Word format. Re-record the sound (audio) files that go with the recordings, one per screen. UPK's granular approach to the sound files means that timing isn't an option. Retiming demos isn't required. A tip here with sound files and XLFF-exported custom content is to facilitate translation context by avoiding explicit references to actions going on in the screen recordings. A text based storyboard with screenshots accompanying the sound files should also be provided to the translators. Provide a glossary of terms too. Use the re-record option in UPK to record any demo from a translated application. This will allow all the translated UI labels to be automatically captured. You may be required to resize any action events here due to text expansion issues. Of course, you will need translated data in the translated application too, so plan for this in advance. However, source-target language skills aren't required for the re-recording. The UPK Player itself, of course, is also available from Oracle along with content and doc in 21 languages. The Developer and Setup is also translated in a smaller number of languages. Check the Oracle UPK website for latest details. UPK is a super solution for global enterprise applications training deployments allowing source content to be translated into multiple languages easily.   • Windows API BackupRead failing with error 50 on Windows Storage Server 2008 R2

    We have a backup application that uses the Windows API BackupRead. It works correctly on Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2. It does not work on Storage Server 2008 R2. It always fails with error 50 - The request is not supported. The documentation for BackupRead gives no indication that it will not work with Storage Server 2008 R2. Anyone else have any experience using this API on Storage Server 2008 R2?

    I have an mdf file of sql server 2005 database now i want it to attach in sql server 2008 R2 but when i try to attach it, it gave me error saying. Unable to open the physical file "D:\Fraz\Freelance\Database\DBmdf13aug\mbh_pk.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120) what can be the problem and how to fix it? Is this folder permission error or sql server 2008 have something missing
