• WPF ClickOnce Bootstrap Dection Failure on One Machine

  Hello Friend, I've decided to use ClickOnce technology to deploy my new WPF application. By and large, ClickOnce works as advertised but I've hit a minor glitch regarding Bootstrapping and framework detection. Some background: - I'm using the standard Visual Studio-generated publish.htm page as my launch page. - The only prerequisite is the .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile. - All clients using IE 8. - All clients already have the .NET 4.0 Client Profile installed. ClickOnce works as advertised on the vast majority of machines. The VS-generated JScript correctly detects that the framework is installed and presents the user with a Run button. The app launches just fine. I'm getting odd results on one of the machines, however. On the offending machine, the VS-generated JScript tells the user that the prereqs may not be installed -- or rather, it FAILS to detect that the framework is already installed. The "launch" link successfully launches the application but the Run link points to the bootstrapper setup.exe. Why is it failing to detect the framework on this one machine? It occurred to me that framework detection is largely a matter of examining the useragent string that's submitted by the browser. So, what you see below are two UserAgent strings. The first is from a machine where things are working properly. The second is from the offending machine. I don't know enough about useragent strings to understand why the former works and the latter fails. The only difference as far as I can tell is that the offending machine is running 64bit. However when I click a link, the server can't load the page and gives this error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Any idea?

• With the attachment_fu rails plugin, is there any way to delete files uploaded to Amazon S3?

  Let's say I'm using attachment_fu to attach profile pics to user profiles in a system, with Amazon S3 used as the actual file storage. When users upload new profile pics, I'd like to replace the attached file with the new one. I can do this within my database (i.e. the file metadata) easily, but attachment_fu doesn't seem to provide methods for deleting the files from S3. Am I missing something, or am I approaching this the wrong way? Many thanks!

• Python Profiling In Windows, How do you ignore Builtin Functions

  I have not been capable of finding this anywhere online. I was looking to find out using a profiler how to better optimize my code, and when sorting by which functions use up the most time cumulatively, things like str(), print, and other similar widely used functions eat up much of the profile. What is the best way to profile a python program to get the user-defined functions only to see what areas of their code they can optimize? I hope that makes sense, any light you can shed on this subject would be very appreciated.

• NameValueCollection Issue In Proxy Generation

  I have a proxy generation problem I am building my own customised XMLMembershipProvider in WCF. The code runs well in ASP.Net and am consuming the same code in WCF for silverlight, My class inherits the Membership provider hence have implemented all the MembershipProvider methods. Now, consumung this methods in WCF requires also the Initialize Method having NameValueCollection as passin parameter, which is the cause of the problem because WCF does not supporteCollection serialization. when the initialize method is marked as OperationContract, Proxy class does not get generated. I could have use Dictionary but that is impossible here bacause the base class's initialize method accepts two parameter one of which should be a NameValueCollection. If i don't mark the Initialize as OperationContract, the proxy class is generated with all the methods but i realized i still need the Initialize marked as Operation contract to start the provider. Has any one got any idea about the use of NameValueCollection in WCF and the work around this problem Thank you. Nicholas

• Does background iOS require specific provisioning?

  I've added the appropriate XML to my PLIST ("audio key") and my app did stream audio in the background. I installed the app on to an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 via Ad Hoc distribution. I played audio in my app and pressed the home key. It was still playing. Then I switched computers and reset my provisioning profile. I recompiled and exported with a generic provisioning profile. I sent the app to someone else to test on their 3GS via Ad Hoc and the app does not work in the background.

  How can I enable or disable a maven profile based on whether the VM that is executing maven is a 32 bit or a 64 bit JVM? I tried this: <activation> <os> <arch>x86</arch> </os> </activation> or amd64 respectively to detect a 32/64 bit VM, but this fails on a 32 bit VM running on a 64 bit Windows as it activates the 64 bit profile.

  I'm having a tough time trying to find clear and concise examples of how one would implement a service-based authentication scheme using tokens. As far as I can tell, the basic steps are as follows: Client requests username/password from user Client passes username/password to identity provider Provider checks username/password and sends back a token if the user is valid Client does something with the token? The third and fourth step are where I'm getting stuck. I assume the "token" in this case just has to be either an encrypted string that the client can decrypt or some random string that gets stored somewhere (i.e. a database) that the client can then verify against, but I'm not really sure what the client is then supposed to do with the token or why you even need a token at all -- couldn't a simple user ID also suffice?

• Zend Framework on a Shared Host

  I am trying to push my first ZF project to my shared hosting provider. I have done a lot of testing on my home server and everything is working great. My issue is that I do not know how to set up my .htaccess files on the shared hosting provider to make it work correctly. The ZF documentation says to configure my Apache config VirtualServer DocumentRoot to /whatever/path/project-folder/public, but I don't have that kind of access. How do I get around this? I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1115547/zend-framework-on-shared-hosting but none of those solutions have worked for me.   I need to import a zipped csv into a mongo collection, but there is a catch - every record contains a timestamp in Pacific Time, which must be converted to the local time corresponding to the (longitude,latitude) pair found in the same record. For each record read from the csv, a lookup is made into the timezones collection to map the record location to the respective time zone. If the mapping is successful - that timezone is used to convert the record timestamp (pacific time) to the respective local timestamp. If no mapping is found - a rough approximation is calculated. The timezones collection is appropriately indexed, of course - calling explain() confirms it. The process is slow. Naturally, having to query the timezones collection for every record kills the performance. I am looking for advises on how to improve it. Thanks. Surprisingly, not only there is no improvement, but it works even more slowly now! May be rtree could be fine tuned to load the entire dat/idx pair into RAM (704M), but I do not know how to do it. Until then, it is not an alternative. In general, I think the solution should involve parallelization of the task. • Installing ADT plugin 16.0.1 on Eclipse Indigo- windows

  When I try to install the ADT 16.0.1 plugin on Eclipse Indigo java developer edition release 1 or Helios normal edition release 2, I get the following error: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software currently installed: Shared profile 1.0.0.1316138460759(SharedProfile_epp.package.java 1.0.0.1316138460759) Missing requirement: Shared profile 1.0.0.1316138460759 (SharedProfile_epp.package.java 1.0.0.1316138460759) requires 'org.maven.ide.eclipse [1.0.100.20110804-1717]' but it could not be found I've tried to lookup the package it's refering to on apache, JDK reference and android developer reference but no luck! This's not my first time installing ADT, I already have it installed on Ubuntu and it works. I also had the old release (ADT 15) installed on Eclipse galileo on windows, but I re-installed windows (i'm running windows 7 ultimate by the way) and I can run the old release but it's very good developing with ICS API-s. So, if anyone could help, it would be highly appreciated.

• Does CakePHP treat all INT fields as ID's for join tables?

  I am trying to save a User, their Profile, and some tags and my join table that links the profile and the tags keeps getting messed up. The profile model is called Instructor, the tag model is called Subject. The Instructor has a phone number and a zip code and for some reason CakePHP thinks these are the fields it should use when creating entries in my join table. • Firebug is permanently inactive

  Firebug used to work fine -- until something happened -- not sure what. FF 3.6.3 on XP PRo current. The net effect is Firebug is now always inactive. The icon is present and gray as is normal. Click on the icon and I get: It does this regardless of the site. I've uninstalled Firebug and re-installed. nada. Additionally, the Tools Firebug menu yields nothing. The only unusual issue I can think of is it may of stopped working sometime after I created an additional FF profile (which has since been removed) for a test. Somehow, in removing the extra profile, my bookmarks were deleted. I recovered them from by my online-backup service. Any suggestions? I'd really like to get the Firebug functionality back. thanks.

If we fill in that box, we can get the link by calling this function <?php echo get_comment_author_link(); ?> But if you are logged in and you don't add the website at your profile, when you leave comment. It doesn't have the link on your username. What I want is, if the logged-in user doesn't have the website, there will be the link which will be carry them to their profile page which is something like http://www.example.com?author=21 Is there any function that i can use out there ? • Creating a Dynamic Image using Friends pictures

  I am working on a Facebook for which I need to get all the Profile Pictures of Friends of the users. Which I did using FQL query. I need these images for creating a poster of all the Friends Profile pics along tags in them. For that I need to create a Dynamic poster for every user with their Friends tagged in them. I tried using the GD Library for PHP. I tried with the imagecreatefromjpeg() function of php for which I can use one image and pass it to the main image. But here I have more than 1 images (average about 100 images) depending on the number of friends the user has. What function do I need to create this dynamic poster ? • Adding a Third Table to a Two-Table Join Query

  Hello, The query below works just fine. It pulls fields from two MySQL tables, "comment" and "login". It does this for rows where "username" in the table "login" equals the variable "$profile." It also pulls fields for rows where "loginid" in the table "comment" equals the "loginid" that is also being pulled from "login." I would like to pull data from a third table called "submission," which has the following fields: submissionid loginid title url displayurl datesubmitted I would like to pull fields from rows in "submission" where "loginid" equals the "loginid" that is already being pulled from the other two tables, "login" and "comment." How can I do this? • Codeigniter: simple form function

  I'm stuck writing a simple form...I feel dumb. • Sharepoint connected web parts question

  I have one web part (the provider) which displays insurance claims in a gridview. When user clicks on one this value(case number) is passed via IWebPartField interface to another web part(consumer) which displays detailed info about the claim. So far so good. I can select different claims in the provider and the details show up in the consumer just fine. The moment I add a TextBox to the consumer, the consumer no longer recognizes the case number passed. I need the user to be able to enter a value in the textbox and click a button to update that claim info. I can debug and attach to process and it looks like it is getting the case in the callback function, etc, but when it is setting parameters for the stored proc in CreateChildControls, it is null. Comment out the TextBox and it works fine. Any clues as to what is going on? Brand new to Sharepoint web parts...any help appreciated! thanks, PhilJ

• Is it possible to query a XML file with SQL?

  Currently I'm working on a case where we don't want to change to much on a c#/wpf program, but like to add a feature. Currently we allow certain users to add sql queries to a database to retrieve customer data, hereby a custom connection string/ provider name must be specified. With this information it's possible to create the connection and obtain the data with c#. However we like to add the possibility to allow that user group to query XML files too, with a certain connection string/ provider name. I just had a look for possibities in .net to do that, but can't seem to find a decent way... Is something like this possible? (OleDb/ODBC way maybe?) Thanks in advance.

• Is it possible to programmatically control c# health monitoring without using the web.config file?

  I have developed my own custom provider for the health monitoring; however, I use parameters in the constructor and this is not allowed when using the health monitoring from the web.config file. Does anyone know if I can turn on/off the monitoring and have it watch properly through code (possibly in my global.asax file on application startup). Or, is it possible for me to create my own watcher that will do the same thing as the health monitor. Or, finally - can I just pass variables from the web.config setup (i'm not familiar with the public token part of the provider type declaration). Thanks in advance
