  • Game planning and software design? I feel that UML is not convenient

    In my university, they always emphasize and hype about UML design and stuff, in which I feel it is not going to work well with game structure design. Now, I just want a professional advice on how should I begin my game designing? The story is I have some skill in programming and have done many minor game such as getting some 2D platformer working to some extend. The problems that I find about my program is the poor quality design. After coding for a while, things start to break down due to poor planning (When I add new feature, it tends to make me have to recode the whole program). However, to plan everything out without a single design flaw is a bit too ideal. Therefore, any advice to how should I plan my game? How should I put it into visible pictures, so that me and my friends are able to overview the designs? I planned to start coding a game with my friend. This is going to be my first teamwork, so any professional advices would be a pleasure. Is there any other alternatives than UML? Another question is how does "prototyping" normally looks like?

    Hi everyone, my name is Joash Mitei. I am a graduate Intern at Oracle Systems Kenya and I will briefly take you through our offices and the working environment here in Nairobi, Kenya. I’ve been with Oracle since February 2012 and I’m responsible for Applications Pre-sales focusing on Oracle EPM and E-Business Suite. My background is Finance and Accounting therefore joining Oracle was almost a totally a different ball game but the transition has been smooth. The Oracle offices here are located on the second floor of Mebank Towers. We moved to the 2nd floor just three months ago from the 5th floor mainly because of the growing workforce. We are covering the whole Eastern Africa region hence diversity in culture is evident. This is a plus since you get to interact with people of very different backgrounds, cultures and ways of thinking. The building itself is on the outskirts of the CBD hence free from the hustle and bustle of the town. The office is split into different sections; there is a main working area which has an open desk design that fosters interaction between colleagues, there are 4 conference rooms for meetings and presentations, there are 3 quiet rooms for a little privacy when needed and there is a dining area for meals and ‘hanging out’. The working environment is world-class, to say the least. The employees are very professional, quite smart and needless to say, very busy. There are 4 interns covering sales and pre-sales in both Tech and Apps. As an intern you get support from your supervisor but you are required to show initiative yourself and thus the need to be very pro-active and inquisitive. The local management is well structured and communicative to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the office. Apart from the daily work, we usually have events to boost staff morale such as ‘TGIF hang -out’, football matches against each other or versus other companies, and team building retreats. All these are monumental in fostering the RED POTENTIAL. We also do numerous CSR activities in the local communities . Well, that’s the Kenyan office for you. Glad to be your tour guide.   • Using MLP, how to make a link to the according page in the other languages?

    the question says it all, but here's a bit more detail: I help building a bilingual website using MLP on TextPattern. It's trivial to put a link to the top level page of another language, but how to put a link to the current page in another language? Eg. /en/contact should link to /de/kontakt (the same article in another language). I'm sure there are some variables somewhere that I could put into the template that would be filled with the correct links. Thankx in advance. :)

  • Error 5A - Internal CPU Error

    So I built myself a pc for the first time. The machine has been running properly, and without issue, since March of this year. Today after an hour or so of gaming the machine shutdown without warning. Any attempts to reboot have been unsuccessful. I have managed to get it to post, twice, but it doesn't get as far as the OS before it shuts off again. I pulled the second video card so I could see the error code LED and it appears to be showing 5A which matches to "Internal CPU Error". Am I looking at a failed CPU or is this a symptom of another issue? Any feedback you can provide is most appreciated. Here's my parts list: CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K 3.4GHz 6-Core CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 73.0 CFM Liquid Motherboard: Asus X79 Deluxe ATX LGA2011 Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Video card (x2): EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Power supply: Corsair 1000W ATX12V / EPS12V

  • after BIOS splash, will not boot -- asks me to select an OS, but it just reboots

    I'm running Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-bit. Everything has been working for several weeks. Yesterday, when I tried to boot up my computer, after the BIOS screen flashes I reach a screen with a black background that reads at the top: GNU GRUB version1.99-21ubuntu3.4 Then there is a box in which I can select from the following lines: Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-bit, 3.2.0-31-generic (/dev/sdb2) Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-bit, 3.2.0-31-generic (/dev/sdb2) -- recovery mode Previous Linux versions Memory test (memtest86+) Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) At the bottom it reads: Use the ? and ? keys to select which entry is highlighed. Press enter to boot the selected OS, 'e' to edit the commands before booting or 'c' for a command-line. I have no idea why it started doing this and, worse, I have no idea how to get out of here. No matter which option I select, I can't get it to boot the OS. If I select either of the first two, it reboots to splash the BIOS and then I'm right back where I started. If I choose "Previous Linux versions" I get essentially the same screen with only two choices (which are the same as the first two choices listed above, Linux 13 MATE and the recovery mode). Again, choosing either one of those results in a reboot. If I try to run either of the memtest options, it reads: error: unknown command 'linux16', Press any key to continue... Then it brings me back to the same screen Can anyone help me please? Intel Core i5-2500 ASUS P8Z68-V LX Intel Motherboard G. It's a sharing website - everyone is allowed to download specific content, but I want to make sure nobody knows where all the files are kept, so I've decided to use URL Forwarding, e.g. when someone visits fakesite.com, it returns realsite.com without revealing/redirecting to realsite.com. Question: I don't know how to make this work. Please help me by explaining how to use URL Forwarding! Thanks!
