  • python search replace using wildcards

  • Google Groups layout problem

    I have this strange problem when browsing Google Groups. The sidebar, the one displaying the various menu options, like Home, Discussions, Pages, is rendered on the left side of the page on top of the group discussions space. Below is a snapshot taken from FireFox (version 3.5.2). I have experienced the same problems with other browsers several times as well, but FireFox is my main browser and it is really broken there.

    I'm writing up something about ACL usage on CentOS but since I still do not have a box ready I would like to ask something. Let us assume we have a folder /var/www/test If I do this in terms of permissions: /bin/chown -R root:root /var/www/test/ /bin/chmod -R u=rwx,go= /var/www/test/ /usr/bin/setfacl -R -m u:apache:rwx /var/www/test/ Will user apache be able to change owner of folder test or of any particular file within that folder? If answer is yes shall I than use group instead of user?

  • Rackspace Cloud servers backing up

    Is there anyway to backup an image of a rackspace cloud server? something thats easy to do instead of running scripts backing up each db and fs. This seems like something easy to do on EC2 and impossible to do on rackspace cloud. Also i know rightscale can work with rackspace cloud only for ubuntu images. Is it possible to do this with rightscale easily if its not yet available directly in rackspacecloud?

    Hi, I have a projects with several large apps and where settings and apps files are split. directory structure goes something like that: project_name __init__.py apps __init__.py app1 app2 3rdparty __init__.py lib1 lib2 settings __init__.py installed_apps.py path.py templates.py locale.py ... urls.py every app is like that __init__.py admin __init__.py file1.py file2.py models __init__.py model1.py model2.py tests __init__.py test1.py test2.py views __init__.py view1.py view2.py urls.py how to use a sphinx to autogenerate documentation for that? I want something like that for each in settings module or INSTALLED_APPS (not starting with django.* or 3rdparty.*) give me a auto documentation output based on docstring and autogen documentation and run tests before git commit btw. I tried doing .rst files by hand with .. automodule:: module_name :members: but is sucks for such a big project, and it does not works for settings Is there an autogen method or something? I am not tied to sphinx, is there a better solution for my problem?

  • Utility to determine the font used on a site?

    For example: I like the fonts used on the website : NYTimes, so something that could list all the fonts used by the website would be great! I do NOT want a image processing utility that could analyze the screenshots or a site that will ask questions about the font and narrow down from its list. Something that could just crawl the website and list its fonts... It would be great if it could overlay the fonts on the regions, but that would be going too far, I guess.

    Hello. I'm starting with Python coming from java. I was wondering if there exists something similar to JavaDoc API where I can find the class, its methods and and example of how to use it. I've found very helpul to use help( thing ) from the Python ( command line ) I have found this also: http://docs.python.org/ http://docs.python.org/modindex.html But it seems to help when you already the class name you are looking for. In JavaDoc API I have all the classes so if I need something I scroll down to a class that "sounds like" what I need. Or some times I just browse all the classes to see what they do, and when I need a feature my brain recalls me We saw something similar in the javadoc remember!? But I don't seem to find the similar in Python ( yet ) and that why I'm posting this questin. BTW I know that I would eventually will read this: http://docs.python.org/lib/lib.html But, well, I think it is not today.

  • Command aliases in DOS?

    How can I make command aliases in DOS like I would with bash? I found out about doskey in a forum thread, so I can do something like: doskey ls=dir /b ...and now the command ls acts a little more like ls on Unix. (I type ls so often in DOS, it isn't funny.) But how do I get this to stick between sessions? It goes away the next time I open cmd.exe. (Is there something like .bash_profile?)

  • Is there a good command-line OS from which I can launch VMs?

    Generally speaking, I'm interested in something that can load quickly and, depending on what I want to do, can choose to launch a Virtual Machine that is tailored to my desired activity. So, something that loads to (preferably) a command line, then if I want to run my Windows 7 machine that has all of my programming junk on it, I can simply enter the command to launch some VM player and close it when I'm done.

  • Looking for a good database structure to achieve Facebook/SO like notifications

    I want to be able to have notifications on my site, similar to the way SO does it. I have looked for a good table structure to do this, but I cant seem to figure it out. I was thinking something like this. Notifications id, notification_type_id, user_id, type_id Notification Types id, notification_text Where the notification type would relate to either a new post, a new comment, or whatever features I add later down the line... User Id would relate to whoever the notification is for. Type_id and notification type would go hand in hand, so if the notification_type was a new comment, the type_id would be the comment_id to go to. This seems good to me, but i want to be able to notify ALL users when something changes.. like on facebook when you comment on something, you get a notification that someone else has also commented on the same thing after you. I cant seem to figure this out... Help wanted Thanks

  • How can I play my MP3 files through my stereo system?

    Here's the situation. Like many others I have my entire CD collection ripped to my PC, along side other music I've acquired through iTunes or Amazon MP3. Also like many others the speakers at my PC are underpowered, and likely included in my monitor as an afterthought. This is fine for most use: system sounds, YouTube, etc. Even games sounds and music. But I'd like something a little better for when I really want to listen to music. And I have it; in the next room — barely 25 feet away as the crow flies — sits a nice 400 watts stereo system. The stereo supports MP3 CDs, so up to this point I've just kept a few CD-RW disks around to keep most of my collection available. But it's time to move on to something a little more sophisticated. What are my options for using the MP3 files available on my computer as an input for this stereo? Some notes: I want to be able to control what song the stereo is playing without having to go to the PC, including setting up and retrieving playlists. Ideally this should even be able to wake the PC from sleep mode to start playing. I primarily use Windows Media Player on the PC (which runs Windows Vista). However, the files themselves live on a server running Windows Server 2008, and so I could also install something on the server and run everything from there. The axillary input on the stereo is unfortunately limited to a 1/8 inch stereo mini-plug. I'm loath to run wires across two rooms, and I'm considering moving the stereo to the garage at some point. Therefore a wireless solution that can easily cover about 100 ft or so is preferred. I already have a Wi-Fi network ready, but it's secured so anything using Wi-Fi should make it easy to set up security. Bonus points for doing it in under $85 shipped at Amazon (I'm hoping to pay for this via $85 worth of Amazon gift cards). I know this a pretty tight budget, so just getting close is okay. Bonus points for something that remembers multiple profiles (keep my favorite songs separate from the wife's). Bonus points for a remote that can also replace my stereo remote, so I only need one device to control everything. I'm not holding my breath on this one given my price range, though. Bonus points if I can also use for Internet radio. Doing some research on my own as well.   • Objective-C initial values of created C-array

    I create an array, similar to classic C (not NSArray or one of it's children) - something like BOOL i[5];. And I want to make all its values to be equal to NO. First of all, I didn't found any information about initial values of such arrays (I know that in classic C they will be undefined, but don't know exactly about Objective-C. I found info about classes and its inner data [after allocation, without initialization], but not about simple data types). And the second, if I should set array values manually - should I use memset(...); or something different? To prevent possible questions... I want to use this construction as array of temporary boolean flags and don't think that it is proved to use something like NSArray here.

  • Swing combo boxes

    Alright, so I'm simply defining a combo box like so... JComboBox yearSelect = new JComboBox(); Now, I have not even added this to a panel or anything, I've just defined it. When I run the app, nothing displays.. when I comment out this line.. the app displays the other panels like I want it to.. is there something I'm doing wrong? Maybe I'm forgetting something that has to do with combo boxes? I think it may be something stupid that I'm missing.

I came up with this pattern: Action<string> DoSomething = (lSomething) => { // Do something }; DoSomething("somebody"); DoSomething("someone"); DoSomething("somewhere"); If I were to have used a traditional loop, it would look something like this: List<string> lSomeList = new List<string>(); lSomeList.Add("somebody"); lSomeList.Add("someone"); lSomeList.Add("somewhere"); foreach (string lSomething in lSomeList) { // Do something } Are there any appreciable differences between the two? To me they look equally easy to understand and maintain, but are there some other criteria I might use to distinguish when one might be preferred over the other?

  • How do I set up mod rewrite to do this?

    Hi guys heres the scene - I'm building a web application which basically creates accounts for all users. Currently its setup like this the file structure: root/index.php root/someotherfile.php root/images/image-sub-folder/image.jpg root/js/somejs.js When users create an account they choose a fixed group name and then users can join that group. Initially I thought of having an extra textbox in the login screen to enter the group the user belongs to login to. BUt I would like instead to have something like virtual folders in this case: root/group-name/index.php I heard it can be done with apache mod rewrite but I'm not sure how to do this - any help here? Basically instead of having something like &group-name=yourGroupName appended to every page I would just like something of the nature above.

    I've been doing something along the lines of.. $dt1 = '1000-01-01 00:00:00'; //really some val from db $dt2 = '1000-01-01 00:00:10'; //another val maybe db maybe formatted if(strtotime($dt1) > strtotime($dt2){ //do something } Is the strtotime needed? can i do a more direct comparison on the datetime formatted strings? i.e. if($dt1 > $dt2){ //do something } Will that always work?

  • How to use the 4-in-1 card reader on my Lenovo x100e?

    My Lenovo x100e laptop has a "4-in-1" card reader that's supposed to handle SD/SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, but I can't insert my SDHC card (a "SANDISK SECURE DIGITAL EXTREME SDHC 16GB 30MB/S"). It enters a bit and looks lite it will fit, but then it doesn't get any further in (and yes, I've tried to turn it around). It really doesn't move, and I'm afraid to break something if I push harder. Am I missing something obvious here?
