• Creating yahoo pipe from google cal feed results in german language headings [closed]

  I'm trying to create a Yahoo pipe which combines 4 google calendar RSS feeds into a single feed sorted by date. I've created a yahoo pipe to do this (Which can be found here) The problem is, the headings all appear in German! • Converting mp3 to ogg, suggestive?

  I'm thinking about converting my mp3 based music library to ogg, due to ogg being a free and open standard format (I guess there are other reasons too). As far as I know there's a chance of losing some sound quality when converting mp3 to ogg and vice versa (?). Would you suggest converting mp3 to ogg, or is it such a bad idea that I'd have to rip all CDs to ogg instead of converting? (if this would turn up I'd rip to flac anyway I guess). How would I be able to convert mp3 to ogg the easiest way, copying ID3-Tags too? (on a *nix-based environment) Best regards!

• Snippets in Vim not working

  I've been trying to get snippets to work with Vim (specifically, MacVim). I have tried both snippetsEmu and snipMate (preferred). Other plugins are working fine. I have been able to get snippetsEmu to temporarily work via A Byte of Vim's note to run :runtime! ftplugin/python_snippets.vim if they aren't working, except the author doesn't mention why they may not be working or what kind of permanent solutions are available. So, basically when I type for<tab> in a PHP file it just puts a tab after 'for' instead of expanding into the snippet. I'm new to Vim and can't seem to figure this out. The only main difference that these two plugins (snippetsEmu and snipMate) have compared to other plugins is that they use the ~/.vim/after directory. But knowing that hasn't helped me any. What I have seen some people suggest is to make sure the following is in your .vimrc file, but this has not helped: set nocompatible filetype on filetype plugin on

  Hi My laptop has two os. one is windows vista. and other is Ubuntu. I am currently on ubuntu system, this is my primary OS. There are 4 partitions of my hard disk Windows OS Linux(Ubuntu OS) Data Now the problem part. The data partition is NTFS. I have mounted this partition on the location /media/windrive-a under ubuntu OS. A little while back i decided to delete the mounting of the data partition and i fired command rm -r /media/windrive-a/. To give me a shock; all my data on data drive is gone. Now, I know this is not the command to remove mounted partition. But I have committed the wrong. Is there any way i can get my data back. These are very important data for me. Please suggest.

• KB2494088 Always Fails : How to get it to install (or stop trying to)?

  I have a problem where KB2494088 (a SQL Server 2008 R2 patch) continually fails to install when I reboot my system. Downloading the manual patch and trying to apply it says: The SQL Server patch package is part of a general distribution release (GDR). This package cannot be applied since this SQL Server feature has already been patched. To continue, you must install a higher version of the SQL Server patch. Most other posts (this, this) suggest it's either a failed (or cancelled) past installation or requires a SQL server repair. I've looked at registry settings and tried the repair option, but nothing seems to work.

• How to install old versions of gcc on Fedora without a VM?

  Hi, I need gcc 4.3 running alongside the shipped 4.4 on an FC13 machine. I can't do the VM solution discussed at http://serverfault.com/questions/88445/how-to-install-old-versions-of-gcc-on-fedora-12 since I need hardware access (CUDA computations on the graphics card). There's no compat-gcc-43 package (only compat-gcc-34). So I've built gcc by hand and am now trying to decide how to "install" it. Could anyone confirm that this was my only option, and/or suggest a best practice for how to manage the side-by-side gcc versions?

• Windows 7 Stopped Using hosts file for DNS Resolution

  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Starting today, I noticed that DNS resolution is not reading my %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. I say this because I added two new entries to the file and when I run 'nslookup' on the command line, they don't resolve. Further, just trying to resolve 'localhost' results in my primary DNS server being queried. I've read several threads that suggest that the file might have been corrupted and to move it aside and create a new one. I've done that, and no improvement. Is there some sort of registry key that controls the sequence of resources used for DNS resolution (similar to nsswitch.conf on UNIX)? What else could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

  Hello, I currently own a Crosshair 2 Formula which is broken and I need to replace. Recently, I bought a Phenom 2 CPU which I wouldn't like to throw away. Recent Crosshairs are based (as opposed to the Rampage series) on chipsets that are certified for AMD Crossfire. The problem is that I have 3 SLi cards I absolutely don't want to change with AMD card(s) since I use 3D Vision, and I need NVidia. If I buy a Crosshair 3 or 4 which is not SLi certified, will SLi still work? Else, could you suggest me a good gaming motherboard with AM3 socket and that works with 3-way SLi? Thank you in advance. • Which Message Queue should I choose (must run on Linux)

  There are many open source Message queues for Linux, and I need some help deciding what I should go for. My problem is simple - I get sent a list of files that needs to be processed. Each job can't be split up, but they are self contained and can be spread to multiple computers. I'm thinking of solving this using a message queue. Multiple clients send a message to a central queue. Each queue has a number of subscribers that will take jobs from that queue when they have finished processing the current job. Ideally it should have the following qualities Message queue must be able to store unprocessed messages in case of a shutdown/reboot A job can only be processed by a single subscriber (don't want duplicate jobs) The subscribers should be able to send jobs of their own, that will be processed by a different set of subscribers. Can anyone suggest a simple to use message queue?

I have a lot of professional files/folders in a FireWire 800 external HD connected to the MBP and I want to use the 1.5 TB HD in my Windows 7 box as a backup for both the HD and MBP. Right now I am just copying files manually to the HD over the network and that's very slow and open to failure (not rsync'd.) Anyone suggest some appropriate solutions? Should I just figure out how to setup RSync on the windows box or is there a better alternative? Thanks!

• Install mountain lion by using the .dmg from installer app

  I already have a Mountain Lion Installer app, downloaded from Apple Store. Now, I would like to install ML on another machine I own. I didn't want to download it again, so I copied the .app to the other machine and try to run. Unfortunately due to some error about mac unable to run the .app I wasn't able to install. Most tutorial suggest to make a bootable USB starting by the installer InstallESD.dmg, found in installer .app. I would like instead to run the .dmg directly. So I have three 'propedeutic' questions: can I just mount and run the .dmg without making a bootable drive ? I do have backup, a TimeCapsule one to be precise. In case of failure, can I just use the previous backup, and restore to Lion 10.7 ? from 'Apple Store point of view', would my machine be recognized as upgraded and elegible for future update ?

• Windows 7 Loading speed

  I have installed Windows 7 64-bit about two week ago. Since then everything was working alright, but yesterday Windows started to load much slower. Main delay comes while Windows logo is glowing -- it used to be around 10-15 seconds and now it's around 2 minutes. As far as I remember, I have only installed Microsoft IntelliMouse driver recently and removed it today. Unfortunately I found out that I have switched off System Restore some time long ago, so can't even test if the problem can be fixed by restoring old version. How can I troubleshoot the problem? Can I somehow find out what's causing the delay? P.S. Please don't suggest to reinstall Windows. I know that will help, but reinstalling all software and settings is a pain and requires a lot of time.

• iptables forward rule not working in openwrt

  I am trying to apply some iptables forwarding rules in openwrt. Here is my scenario - My server has two cards ath0 and br-lan. br-lan is connected to internet and ath0 to private network. The other m/c in n/w also has ath0 that connects with this server's ath0 and they are able to ping each other. Now, I want other m/c in network to use internet using br-lan of server so I thought of using iptables forwarding rule- Here is what I tried - Server : $ ping 1.1.1.6 // <ath0-ip of client> works fine $ iptables -A FORWARD -i ath0 -o br-lan -j ACCEPT $ /etc/init.d/firewall restart Client : $ ping 1.1.1.5 // <ath0-ip of server> works fine $ ping 132.245.244.60 // <br-lan ip of server> (not working) I am new to iptables stuff and openwrt. • IMAP and Folder Subscriptions

  Hey guys I'm trying to figure out how folder subscriptions work with IMAP Clients and, in my case, in an Exchange 2007 environment. I have managed to deduce, I think correctly, that the folder subscription settings for individuals are stored centrally on the mailbox (At least, having configured 2 profiles on thunderbird, on 2 different machines, they subscribe to the exact same folders and dont display the exact same ones). The point of this being that I have had 2 or 3 different people in the past day report to me that they are having problems subscribing to certain folders, and having certain folder subscriptions remembered (particularly sub-folders). This is across both Thunderbird 2 and 3. can anyone suggest anything? Tom

• CPU fan making noise

  CPU fan is making noise. I figured out some reasons: Cable coming out of fan is vibrating. And maybe also CPU fan is loose causing vibration. Suggest options. I cleaned the fan. But found that there is no heatsink compound /paste between processor and the fan. Is it OK? My processor is P4 2.4 GHz. Motherboard Intel 845 GVSR.

  I'm a newbie running Ubuntu 9.10. I have two users (wife and me), and each user's screensaver is set to lock so that on wakeup, we get to choose which user's desktop to go to. However, Ubuntu requires a password, so this is pretty tedious. I'd like to switch users without entering any password. I know about this trick that works for the boot login, but it doesn't deal with multiple users. Is it possible to set empty passwords for users in Ubuntu, or skip the password in other ways? (I'm expecting real Linux users to suggest that passwordless users must not get any rights and there be an admin user with a strong password. Yes, you're right. Because I got this error while I tried following this instruction: Give the IP address, username and password of the remote machine that you would like to convert and then hit next I got this error in vmware converter: Unable to connect the specified host 10.0.2.15 which is the ip address of the xp machine inside virtual box. It also said that there is a network configuration problem. And when I inputted the ip address from whatismyip.com which should be the same as the ip address on local machine. I didn't get the previous error but I got another one, it said that: insufficient permissions to connect to "ip address" What solution can you suggest for this problem?

After I installed the 10.6.6 version, I get error in Finder as below: The application Finder can't be opened Just around a minute after restarting my Mac everytime I get the error from Finder and then everthing stops working. • USB ports not recognizing devices (vista)

  I'm trying to fix a problem on a Vista machine where all the USB ports seem to have power but they don't recognize devices plugged into them. It seemed to start after I plugged my mp3 player (sansa clip) into it and disconnect it. So it sounds similar to this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900 but that was for XP. And I did try all the fixes (including the registry entry) but they did not help. It also sounds similar to this SU question 50110 but I don't think it is the mother board. I have see other places that suggest reinstalling the OS...but that seems like a last resort type of thing. I have also seen a suggestion of doing a system restore but not sure if that will help. Any ideas of what I can try?

• SQL Server Performance & Latching

  I have a SQL server 2000 instance which runs several concurrent select statements on a group of 4 or 5 tables. Often the performance of the server during these queries becomes extremely diminished. The querys can take up to 10x as long as other runs of the same query, and it gets to the point where simple operations like getting the table list in object explorer or running sp_who can take several minutes. I've done my best to identify the cause of these issues, and the only performance metric which I've found to be off base is Average Latch Wait time. I've read that over 1 second wait time is bad, and mine ranges anywhere from 20 to 75 seconds under heavy use. So my question is, what could be the issue? Shouldn't SQL be able to handle multiple selects on a single table without losing so much performance? Can anyone suggest somewhere to go from here to investigate this problem? Thanks for the help.
