  Hey there. I've read all the related articles on here and can't find one that is specific to what I am looking for. I am new to RSS and am looking for the following reader if anyone know's the right direction to throw me in: An rss reader that I can put on my page that does NOT require mysql database A fairly light chunk of code that I can just add as many .xml,rss.php links/addresses to I can wrap div's around to style each segment specifically as possible can manually limit the amount of feeds that are read to conform to my desires of the pages content out put thanks in advance!

• Execute a dll function in ASP.Net Bin not working, II7.

  I am developing a remote control application where a client (aspx page in a browser) can request a server to "launch a notepad" (for testing purpose, for real life, turning off a light bulb, etc). So I created a dll with a simple function for launching the notepad (on the server side) and dropped this dll in the root bin folder. It worked fine when the aspx page is running under ASP.NET development server (launched from Visual Studio). But when I tested the same aspx page under a FireFox browser, it did not work (launch the notepad) even though it did call for the same function (I stepped through in debugger). Is this a permission issue? How do I set this up in IIS manager, or even better in web.config? Please help.

• Android: How to fade out search / home / menu / back buttons?

  Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

• PHP Convert variable names to lowercase?

  I have an api listener script which takes in get parameters. But I seem to be having issues when users tend to pass mixed case variable names on the parameters. For example: http://mylistenerurl.com?paramName1=Hello&paramname2=World I need my listener to be flixible in such a way that the variable names will be interpreted case-insensitively or rather still all in lower case like after I process the query string on some function, they are all returned as lower-cased variables: extract(someFunction($_GET)); process($paramname1, $paramname2); Can anybody shed some light on this? *much appreciated. thanks!

• Has Google introduced a system that allows multiple "keyword-only" domains per site?

  I've been told by a client that "a friend" told them that as of January 2010, Google allows multiple domain names that have keywords in them to be associated with a single site. To be honest this sounds rather April-foolish but I'm not sure when his "friend" told him so for the time being I have to take it at face value. I've heard nothing of this and have searched for such a thing this morning, to find nothing but warnings against this practice. Said client seems keen on buying up lots of domains today, so before he insists upon it I just want to be absolutely sure - has Google silently introduced such an allowance, or is there something else they introduced earlier this year that he could be getting confused with? • GetBytes Issue in Loading External Flash

  I'm trying to debug a gallery section within a site of mine. Currently the section display a number of thumbnails which visitor select one to view. Once selected, the main flash loads in an external swf. To make the process smoother, I have a preloader for this process using normal getbytes codes. However for some reasons, the flash works fine in IE but not in Firefox or Chrome. In these browsers, as soon as you click the thumbnail, the preloader animated away to reveal the holder of the external swf. However as it is still loading, the holder is a blank area. Would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on why this is so.

  Hi All, I'm trying to reverse the order of bits in C (homework question, subject: bitwise operators). I found this solution, but I'm a little confused by the hex values (?) used -- 0x01 and 0x80. unsigned char reverse(unsigned char c) { int shift; unsigned char result = 0; for (shift = 0; shift < CHAR_BITS; shift++) { if (c & (0x01 << shift)) result |= (0x80 >> shift); } return result; } The book I'm working out of hasn't discussed these kinds of values, so I'm not really sure what to make of them. • Visual Studio 2010 element names for theming

  I am trying to figure out what the element name for the tooltip is in Visual studio so that I can change the style using the extension found here. Anyone know what that is? I am using the default theme which seems to have a white to light grey gradient on it. This is less than optimal since the text for the functions are also white. In a more general question (and perhaps better), is there anything that maps the names as they are found in the theme to where they are in the IDE.

• Changing stylesheet href with jQuery doesn't quite work

  I'm creating a web app that user will be accessing in the field, so they'd like to be able to manually toggle the styles from light to dark depending on the ambient lighting. I'm using jQuery. I added an id attribute to my stylesheet, then created a button using the toggle() event, in which I change the href attribute to the CSS file I want. The CSS file has several @import directives as I split the styles into several files for maintainability. My problem is only the main CSS file is being applied. I tried using the absolute path in the @import directives, but no luck. Is there a fix here I'm missing, or do I have to inlcude everything in a single CSS file? Edit: Apprently this is only a problem in IE8, works fine in Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately, my client wants only IE8. Looks like this is a duplicate of this question.

• Is it possible to run C++ binded with SDL+OpenGL code on a web browser?

  My client wants her website to have an application that renders 3D (light 3D stuff, we are drawing only flat squares in 3D world) but web programming is not my thing. So I am looking for something that can run a C++ program from a web browser. But I think, if this is the case, then the client side must download the program first, and that's not what I want. The client should only be able to use this application only on the website. I came across Google Native Client, which claims that it can run x86 native code in web applications. I haven't decide whether it is worth it or not and I don't know whether this is what I want or not, so I decided to ask experienced people about this. If I want to have something like this, is what I said above possible? Or I completely need other languages like Flex because it does not worth the trouble? Or is Google Native Client suitable for doing something like this?

• Is it posibble to send websocket data over 126 chars?

  Its seems that everybody says that it is possible to send over 126 chars of data over websocket. I looked at many websocket server examples on the web and non of them can transfer over 126 chars from client to server and from server to client. I understand that it is something with dataframes and opcodes but i never figured it out. I'm using C#. Can somebody please put some light on this subject? any code example for receiving and sending data over 126 chars will be very very thankful

  Hello all As the title says, I want to truncate user-input text string based on the width and height of a designated container. My specification is to truncate the string, display some message like Read More at the end and when user clicks on it, the text slides down. UPDATE: Ah! Forgot one thing.   I am learning JPA and have confusion in the @SequenceGenerator annotation. Upto my understanding, it automatically assigns a value to numeric identity fields/properties of an entity. Q1. Does this sequence generator make use of the database's increasing numeric value generating capability or generates the number on his own? Q2. If JPA uses database auto increement feauture, then will it work with datastores that don't have auto increement feature? Q3. If JPA generate numeric value on his own, then how the JPA implementation knows which value to generate next? Does it consult with the database first to see what value was stored last so as to generate the value (last + 1). ====================================================================================== Q4. Please also throw some light on sequenceName and allocationSize properties of @SequenceGenerator annotation.

• Google MAP API v3: Link markers to an external list

  Given is a database with locations, we feed those tho the google map api and all points are displayed. Now there is a list of this location right next to the google map. How can i link the places in the list to the dots on the map? Like this: http://www.local.ch/en/q/ubs.html I want to light up the point on the map on the list item hover and open the info-box by clicking on the list item.   I was involved in an interesting debate about the visibility of domain models & was wondering if people here have any good guidance. Per my understanding of MDA, we need not expose the domain model throughout the application layers & tiers The reason being that any change to the domain model has an impact in the overall application The wise thing to do would be to expose light-weight object (DTO's) which are a small sub-set of the domain model to abstract the actual model On the flip side, any change to the domain model would mean changing various DTO's throughout the application for the change to be visible, while if we do expose the domain model, then the change is in a single location Hope to see some comments & thoughts about this.   Consider compounds of two nouns, which in natural English would most often appear in the form "noun of noun", e.g. "direction of light", "output of a filter". When programming we usually write "LightDirection" and "FilterOutput". Now, I have a problem with plural nouns. There are two cases: 1) singular of plural e.g. "union of (two) sets", "intersection of (two) segments" Which is correct, SetUnion and SegmentIntersection or SetsUnion and SegmentsIntersection? 2) plural of plural There are two subcases: (a) Many elements, each having many related elements, e.g. "outputs of filters" (b) Many elements, each having single related element, e.g. "directions of vectors" Shell I use FilterOutputs and VectorDirections or FiltersOutputs and VectorsDirections? I suspect correct is the first version (FilterOutupts, VectorDirections), but I think it may lead to ambiguities, e.g. FilterOutputs - many outputs of a single filter or many outputs of many filters? LineSegmentProjections - projections of many segments or many projections of a single segment?

• C++: Why don't I need to check if references are invalid/null?

  Hi all, Reading http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/references.html, it says: In general, references should always be valid because you must always initialize a reference. This means that barring some bizarre circumstances (see below), you can be certain that using a reference is just like using a plain old non-reference variable. You don't need to check to make sure that a reference isn't pointing to NULL, and you won't get bitten by an uninitialized reference that you forgot to allocate memory for. My question is how do I know that the object's memory hasn't been freed/deleted AFTER you've initialized the reference. What it comes down to is that I can't take this advice on faith and I need a better explanation. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks, jbu

• Output of System.out.println(object)

  I want to know what exactly the output tells when I do the following : class data { int a=5; } class main { public static void main(String[] args) { data dObj=new data(); System.out.println(dObj); } } I know it gives something related to object as the output in my case is data@1ae73783. I guess the '1ae73783' is a hex number. I also did some work around and printed System.out.println(dObj.hashCode()); I got number 415360643. I got an integer value. I don't know what hashCode() returns, still out of curiosity, when I converted 1ae73783 to decimal, I got 415360643! That's why I am curious that what exactly is this number?? Is this some memory location of Java's sandbox or some other thing? Any light on this matter will be helpful..thanks! :)

• How to detect circles accurately

  Is there any way to accurately detect circles in opencv? I was using hough transform which give me good result but most of the time, shadow of the object and surrounding,light etc gives bad results, so am looking for options other than hough circles, accurate detection is very important for my project. My basic approach so far is to find some spheres in the image taken in realtime. I am using houghcircle to find the spheres and base later calculations on the radius I am getting from that. If the background is plain and nothing the sphere detect without problem, however if I am taking that image in my room where the background will have other objects it's often difficult to detect. So am looking for some other approach.

• Stop sign icon in VS2005 Express solution explorer

  What does a small stop sign icon on a file in solution explorer mean? Someone asked the same question a year ago Original Question but the answer provided is of no help. The icon looks like this: Suffice to say that the sign is not one presented in the VS documentation and is a UK Stop sign (red circle with a white horizontal bar) not a US one. The project is WebKit and the build process cannot find AuthenticationCF.h even though the file is present. I presume the sign might shed some light on this. Thanks, Andy

• How do I Benchmark RESTful Service with Variable Parameters?

  I'm currently working on benchmarking a RESTful service I've made, and part of that is making sure it runs in a reasonable amount of times for a large array of parameters. For example, let's say I have RESTful API of the form some_site.com/item?item_id=y. In that case to be sure my service is working as fast as I'd like it to work, I'd want to try out many values for y one by one, preferably coming from some text file. I can't figure out any way of doing this in ab or httperf. I'm open to using a different benchmarking program if I have, but would prefer something simple and light. What I want to do seems like something pretty standard, so I'm guessing there must already be a program that let's me do it, but an hour or so of googling hasn't gotten me an answer. Ideas?

• how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

  when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

• Can't find Peopleware anywhere?

  Many folks say that Peopleware is one of the best books for software professionals and managers, as I see a lot of people recommending it in the "have to read list." The strange thing is that I can't find a bookstore anywhere that actually has it. I found it on Amazon, but Borders, Barnes & Nobles, etc. don't have it and keep telling me it's out of print. Can anyone shed some light on whats going on here? Amazon doesn't stock it, it says its available from a few 3rd party sellers, but I tried two of them and both of them eventually refunded me and cancelled the order after stalling for a month.

• C++'s unordered_map / hash_map / Google's dense_hash - how to input binary data (buf+len) and insert

  Hi all, I have two questions about Google's dense_hash_map, which can be used instead of the more standard unordered_map or hash_map: How do I use an arbitrary binary data memory segment as a key: I want a buffer+length pair, which may still contain some NUL (\0) characters. I can see how I use a NUL-terminated char * string , but that's not what I want. How do I implement an operation where I look if a key exists, and if not - insert it and if it does return the pointer to the existing key and let me know what actually happened.
