  • XP SP3 PRO - Delayed write failed $mft- can I get which particular file caused the problem ?

    Hi - I sometimes get that error when resuming from hibernation : Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere. I know this is caused because the hard drive (G:, a usb external drive) which was plugged in when I hibernated was not read at the right moment - or sometimes I simply forgot to plug it when resuming from hibernation. My question is : is there any way to see which particular file/folder/folder status/don't know what failed to be written ? Hard drive functions correctly before and after - no problem. Is there a detailed log someplace or a utility ? Searched and searched but nothing. Thanks for any help !

    I've set up a WordPress multi-site with a wildcard ssl for example.com to access the admin area securely. However I'm also using domain mapping to map other domains to other sites e.g. alldogs.com to alldogs.example.com. The problem is when I'm trying to access the front end of a site from and admin for a mapped domain e.g. alldogs.com by clicking "Visit Site" the Link goes to https://alldogs.com because of the forced ssl applied to the admin area. Which produces a certificate warning since the certificate is for example.com and not alldogs.com. How can write a mod_rewrite rule to determine if the url/link clicked on is not the main domain e.g. example.com then change the https:// to http:// so the site can be accessed via port 80 and not generate a certificate warning for that mapped domains

  • How fast can a Windows 2008 CIFS client write to SAMBA server using 10Gb NIC?

    We are experiencing a performance problem using Windows 2008 CIFS client. We have a FreeNAS server that delivers 1.3GB/s on ZFS write. We have 10Gb network connecting NAS server and CIFS clients. Using two Linux CIFS clients, we can get around 1.2GB/s. But windows 2008 clients can only give us 400MB/s. Is that the best a Windows 2008 client can deliver or we do have a poorly configured Windows client? Much appreciated.

  • Is there a way to create a copy-on-write copy of a directory?

    I'm thinking of a situation where I would have something that creates a copy of a directory, tweaks a few files, and then does some processing on the result. This wold be done fairly often, maybe a few dozen times a day. (The exact use case is testing patch submissions; dupe the code, patch it, build/test/report/etc.) What I'm looking for could be done by creating a new directory structure and populating it with hard links from the origonal. However this only works if all the tools you use delete and recreate files rather than edit them in place. Is there a way to have the file system do copy-on-write for a file? Note: I'm aware that many FSs use COW at a block level (all updates are done via writes to new blocks) but this is not what I want.

    The NFSv3 documentation talks alot about the concept of "safe asynchronous writes" (last bullet of A1): http://nfs.sourceforge.net/#section_a This is NOT referring to the sync/async option in the server exports file (as the async option in the exports file is NOT safe). As I understand it, safe asynchronous writes is a hybrid between the sync/async exports option. It allows for a server to reply back without flushing to stable storage immediately, but the client will not remove the write request from cache until it has received confirmation that it has been committed to stable storage (and also detects if the server looses power/reboots). I believe that this option is set on the client side, but I have not come across any documentation that shows how to do this. Any ideas?

  • Does a hard drive degrade if we always write to the same directory?

    I have a very heavy I/O application that is constantly receiving data through the network and writing to a specific directory on the HDD. Then, the application need to load the files from that specific place. One of my clients has been experiencing slowness and when I try to access the directory it takes quite long before I can see the content. My gut feeling is the HDD is degrading due to high I/O for a couple of years and I'm thinking of changing the HDD. Is there a benefit to write to multiple directories instead of using always the same? BTW he is using Windows XP.

    I have a question field with a list of allowed characters : A-Z,0-9,colon (:), question mark (?), comma(,), hyphen(-), apostrophe ('). I have the regex which works fine, in the fashion : $question->addValidator('regex', true, array(<regular expresstion>)) The default error message is something like ''' does not match against pattern '' I want to write a custom error message that says ' is not allowed in this field' Is there a simple way to do it using the existing zend components that I'm missing? Is writing a custom validator the only way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve? If yes, how do I write a custom validator (I looked at the documentation and didn't quite understand how I can customize the error messages) If there is any other way, I'd most appreciate that input too.     Hello, I have been looking around for the answer to this, but no joy. In Java, is using the lock created by ReentrantReadWriteLock equivalent to getting the read and write locks as returned by readLock.lock() and writeLock.lock()? In other words, can I expect the read and write locks associated with the ReentrantReadWriteLock to be requested and held by synchronizing on the ReentrantReadWriteLock? My gut says "no" since any object can be used for synchronization. I wouldn't think that there would be special behavior for ReentrantReadWriteLock. However, special behavior is the corner case of which I may not be aware. Thanks, Todd

    I am writing a program that writes to Excel files. I am restricted to writing to Excel 2007, which is fine, and I'm using EPPlus, which is a great utility. The thing is that I need to have macros and VBA enabled for an update function in the sheet, but EPPlus will only write to .xlsx files, not macro-enabled .xlsm files. If I try to write to .xlsm files it won't open. Is there another code library that lets me accomplish what I need (again that's writing to Excell 2007 Macro-enabled workbooks)?

The err file is getting created in the location but does not contain any error message written to it. My BCP statement is like this. Perhaps it can be found in a DMV query, a standard report, a custom report (i.e the Performance Dashboard), or examining a Sql Profiler trace. I'm not sure exactly. Why do I care? I'm taking time to improve the performance of my web app's data layer. It deals with millions of records and thousands of users. One of the points I'm examining is database concurrency. Sql Server uses pessimistic concurrency by default--good for a write-heavy app. If my app is read-heavy, I might switch it to optimistic concurrency (isolation level: read uncommitted snapshot) like Jeff Atwood did with StackOverflow.

    I'm writing a utility that takes in a .resx file and creates a javascript object containing properties for all the name/value pairs in the .resx file. This is all well and good, until one of the values in the .resx is This dealer accepts electronic orders. /r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer. I'm adding the name/value pairs to the js object like this: streamWriter.Write(string.Format("\n{0} : \"{1}\"", kvp.Key, kvp.Value)); When kvp.Value = "This dealer accepts electronic orders./r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer." This causes StreamWriter.Write() to actually place a newline in between 'orders.' and 'Click', which naturally screws up my javascript output. I've tried different things with @ and without using string.Format, but I've had no luck. Any suggestions?

Then nothing much happens and it goes to the next page which is index.html.rb under views\alexes So what I am wondering is - if I needed to do some business logic, would I write that in the controller snippet? Where inside the snippet? An example would be nice to take a look. Also, I would like to connect to a MongoDb database. Would I also write that in the middle of the controller? Thanks!

    Hello I want write my own desktop sharing application in Java. The application should have some very default features: Capture screen; Allow a remote connected user to click / edit fields. I was thinking to use Java Robot class for mouse movements / key pressing. The problem is i don't know what screen capture strategy to use. Should I make sequentially screen captures (on the hosting computer) every second, and send those captures with UDP via network, so that the clients can intercept the data-grams ? Isn't this a little overkill for the network ? What other strategies are available ? (Except trying an already existing app). PS: If necessary I can even write native code using JNI (still that's the last thing I planning to do).

    I have a handful of public read/write members that are not being serialized and I can't figure out why. Reviewing some code, and my root class is marked serializable: [Serializable] public class MyClass I have a default constructor that initializes 10-15 string members. There are about 50 public read/write string members in MyClass with get and set--no explicit serialization attributes are set on any of these. Serialization looks like this: XmlSerializer x = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyClass)); TextWriter twWriter = new StreamWriter(sFileName); x.Serialize(twWriter, this); twWriter.Close(); only a handful (20-30) of these members are actually seralized to my xml file. what am i missing or misunderstanding about the XmlSerializer class?
