• Re. copying movie from USB card reader back to my camera

  I have a Canon Digital Ixus 860IS. I originally copied a short movie from my camera onto the computer via a USB card reader and then copied it back onto the camera via the same USB card reader along with some photos. The photos have copied back fine but the movie, although it's showing to have copied, can't be seen. Any reason for this? Thanks

  Hello, I want to have an "extended memory" and want to accomplish that with an wiki on an pendrive. I already decided to use PmWiki, but if another wiki solves my problem that would be fine. The issue is: If I install an Apache on an pendrive, it depends on the running operating system. Because I'm using Windows & Linux (and will use Mac in the future) it is crucial for me to be platform independent. I read this article. DokuWiki is for Windows only and MoinMoin needs Python installed (which would be possible on my PCs, but not on public ones). Every help for my "extended memory" is appreciated. PS: As a last resort I could host a wiki on my webpage, which would be accessible everywhere. But I just see a challenge in trying it on a pendrive.

  I just plugged in a very simple 1GB USB stick from the office in hopes of making it a Fedora Live USB stick. For that to work, I need a removable storage device, or else it won't appear in LiveUSB Creator's list. Explorer lists my USB stick as a hard disk: LiveUSB Creator indeed doesn't show it in the device list: Is there any way of forcing Windows to see the stick as a removable storage device?

• Ubuntu won't boot from USB memory stick

  I used the instructions on this webpage to create a bootable USB drive for running Ubuntu 9.10. Unfortunately it doesn't work on my EeePC. Even with 'Removable Dev.' selected in the BIOS as the first boot device, the PC just boots into Windows 7. How do I troubleshoot this problem? • Ubuntu - Automatically mount external drives to /media/LABEL on boot without a user logged in?

  This question is similar, but kind of the opposite of what I want. I want external USB drives to be mounted automatically at boot, without anyone logged in, to locations like /media/<label>. I don't want to have to enter all the data into fstab, partially because it's tedious and annoying, but mostly because I can't predict what I'll be plugging into it or how the partitions will change in the future. I want the drives to be accessible to things like MPD, and available when I log in with SSH. gnome-mount seems to only mount things when you are locally logged into a Gnome graphical session.

• Can see partial encrypted in XP but not in windows 7

  I used truecrypted V.6.3a to partially encrypted (5gb) on my 16gb usb flashdrive on my XP netbook and eveything was fine. However, I don't see the ecrypted partial (5gb) when stick the usb into windows 7-32 bits (desktop). Tried to re-encrypted the usb on windows 7 (desktop) but results are the same.   I've just purchased a HP ProLiant Microserver for home use. I want to set up with web server, samba shares, the usual stuff. My question is really about system setup. It has an internal USB socket so I've attempted to install a copy of Fedora 14 onto it. I turned off X/Gnome, but it still ran like a pig. I've now put the OS on one of the internal disks (250Gb, 7200rpm), but I was wondering if there was a way to utilise the internal USB to give me better power-saving allowing the hard drives to be shut down when not in use. How would you set this server up? I'd rather not go to the extra cost of an SSD right now, but if that's the best way then so be it.

  I've got an Airport Extreme and an external USB Hard Drive formatted with NTFS. (And a LAN of Windows XP Machines.) The drive works perfectly when connected directly to a PC. When it's connected to the AE, however, the Airport Utility sees the drive and lists it in the Disks list, but the drive doesn't appear on the network (as near as I can tell.) Can the AE handle NTFS formatted disks? The documentation is vague on that point.

  I'm trying to install Windows XP Media Center edition by copying the install disc image to an external hard drive and making it bootable. Has anyone had success getting this to work on systems that can't boot from dvds/floppies? I'm basically working from this guide: http://www.dl4all.com/other/21495-install-windows-xp-from-usb.html Update - 2/15/10 I used WinToFlash on my laptop to format my usb hard drive from my install dvd (Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2 from Dell) and selected "boot from usb device" at the boot selection menu and the windows installer started up. However, an error message came up saying that: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." Originally on my desktop machine, I had 1 150Gb SATA drive, and 2 150 Gb SATA drives striped together using RAID. From the hard drive diagnostics, it appears the windows install on one of the RAIDed disks lost a block and this has been preventing me from booting up. I replaced the standalone drive with a new 1Tb SATA drive and disconnected the other hard drives. Could the message be indicating a virus is on the unformatted drive? or the usb hard drive? Update 2 - 2/15/10 The external hard drive didn't find any viruses when scanned. I tried installing Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1 using WinToFlash and that installed successfully onto the new 1Tb drive. WinToFlash was really easy to use and helped a lot, thanks!

  In Windows 7, I was installing wubi ubuntu to an external hard drive when suddenly it disconnected from the PC. After I connected it back to PC, and double clicked the drive's icon, Windows didn't show the content of the disk but asked me whether I wanted to format it. The hard drive has only one partition. Its format is NTFS. I also connected the disk to Windows XP. It makes the Windows Explorer super slow and I cannot open the disk as well. I can open the disk on Ubuntu and Mac. Is it possible to restore the disk and make it run in Windows? Thanks

  Normally, when I attach an external USB drive to my Ubuntu system, the filesystem on it are automounted to /media/label. However, I'd like the filesystem to be mounted at a mount point of my choosing. I've added a line like this to my /etc/fstab: UUID=2BE905C238C1F724 /p ntfs-3g defaults 0 0 # Passport 320GB This allows me to manually mount the volume at /p by running sudo mount /p, however the filesystem is no longer automounted when the drive is attached to the PC. What do I need to do to get automount to this mount point to work, if at all possible?

• Delete the pendrive contents and also trash in Mac OS X?

  I am using a MacBook Pro. I copied some data from my pen drive to my Mac and deleted the content by moving it to trash. After that when I see the info of pen drive it give more value than the original value. If I cleaned the content of the trash only I am able to see the correct value of pen drive and able to copy data. • Any way to ensure that a USB key always has the same drive letter?

  Depending on what's currently connected onto a PC, a USB key does not always get the same drive letter. This is an issue for me because I want to use this key as a backup destination, and I thus have to change the path that's used from time to time. Is it possible to make sure that a specific key ends up with always the same letter? Thanks.
