  • Will Emacs --batch run in cron will hang when require user input?

    I have a job in crontab that requires emacs --batch but if the file is currently open it requests (s, p, q) to (steal, quit, etc...) which is fine if this file is being edited to not run the script but I want to make sure it kills the cron running script so it's not sitting in the background taking up memory. I have the output set to go to a log file so I can see this happening but no way to tell whether the script was terminated even though asked for user input. Does cron terminate these scripts and how to check the PID to make sure?

  • How do I make my applet turn the user's input into an integer and compare it to the computer's random number?

    I'm in beginning programming and I don't fully understand applets yet. However, (with some help from internet tutorials) I was able to create an applet that plays a game of guess with the user.     Hello, I have a form which asks the user his or her date of birth. Its a drop down box since I use the select input type. The first drop down has Months, second has Days, the third has the Years. So the format should be Month(October), Day(25), Year(1990). In other words the months spell out the actual month and not simply the number representation of the month. However, I would like to save the Day and Year in their respective formats. How can I do this in phpMyAdmin? Should I use the DATE type? what should the value be? I just need to know how to correlate all of this in phpmyadmin, so I can save it properly. Thank you.

  • How can I handle validation of non-latin script input in PHP?

    I am trying to adapt a php application to handle non-latin scripts (specifically: Japanese, simplified Chinese and Arabic). The app's data validation routines make frequent use of regular expressions to check input, but I am not sure how to adapt the \w character type to other languages without installing additional locales on the system (which I cannot rely on). Previous developers to have worked on the app have simply added needed characters to the regexes as the number of languages we supported grew (you frequently see "[\wÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉ... etc" in the code), but I can't really do this for all the alphabets I need to support now. Does anybody out there have some advice on how to tackle this?

  • Fail2Ban adds iptable rules but they are not working?

  • How do I relay output from a soundboard into input on skype?

    I'm trying to find a way to play audio from flash soundboards to people on skype. I apparently do not have Wave/Stereo mix/What u hear supported on my soundcard (I have windows 7 professional). I only have one soundcard, and I'm usually using headset. However, I have another laptop with windows vista on it that does have stereo mix available. The problem is, it still doesn't work. When I click an audio bit it just doesn't do anything. It plays on my end, but not to the person on the other end. Is there a way to do this? What am I missing?

  • Centos iptables configuration for Wordpress and Gmail smtp

    Let me start off by saying that I'm a Centos newby, so all info, links and suggestions are very welcome! I recently set up a hosted server with Centos 6 and configured it as a webserver. The websites running on it are nothing special, just some low traffic projects. I tried to configure the server as default as possible, but I like it to be secure as well (no ftp, custom ssh port). Getting my Wordpress to run as desired, I'm running into some connection problems. 2 things are not working: installing plugins and updates through ssh2 (failed to connect to localhost:sshportnumber) sending emails from my site using the Gmail smtp (Failed to connect to server: Permission denied (13)) I have the feeling that these are both related to the iptables configuration, because I've tried everything else (I think). I tried opening up the firewall to accept traffic for ports 465 (gmail smtp) and ssh port (lets say this port is 8000), but both the issues remain. Ssh connections from the terminal are working fine though. After each change I tried implementing I restarted the iptables service.   • Why does Snow Leopard report incorrect battery levels for Bluetooth input devices after switching them to Apple rechargeable batteries?

    I have a Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse and the Apple Wireless keyboard. They work fine. Two days ago, doing my part for the environment, I changed all their batteries to Apple rechargeable batteries. Today I noticed that the battery level meter for all three devices report the wrong battery level. The trackpad reports 93% charge, the keyboard 75% charge and the mouse 65% charge. This can't be right; these are fully charged new batteries. They can't possible drop that much within 48 hours. Has anyone else encountered this problem? And are there any solutions?

  • Does anyone know where I could find a 2 input USB voltage meter?

    What we really need is a tiny UPS, of sorts. We'll be hooking up a solar cell and a battery to a single board computer. Currently, that SBC is a custom Pic32 device, and it does it's own UPS and voltage monitoring duties. I've been tasked with trying to replicate all of its features with off the shelf products... and for the most part I've succeeded. But I don't currently have any way to switch between two sources of juice, or monitor when they're getting low. These guys have something: http://www.mini-box.com/picoUPS-100-12V-DC-micro-UPS-system-battery-backup-system I really like it, the price is well within the budget. We might even work it in though it does 12V and I'll probably be using 5V... there are enough engineers on hand to figure out something. But I'd still have no idea what the voltage was for the PV or battery. I was hoping that there was some simple little USB multimeter thing that I could use to monitor this with, but I can't seem to come up with anything. I've found all sorts of cool hardware, but nothing that will help us. Does anyone know of anything?

  • SNMP query - operation not permitted

    I am working on API that reads a lot of data via SNMP (routes, interfaces, QoS policies, etc...). Lately, I have experienced a random error stating: Operation not permitted Now, I use SNMP4J as core library and cannot really pinpoint the source of error. Some Stackoverflow questions have suggested OS being unable to open sufficient number of file handles but increasing that parameter did not help much. The strange thing is that error occurs only when iptables is up and running. Could it be that firewall is blocking some traffic? I have tried writing JUnit test that mimicked application's logic but no errors were fired... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!   • Enabling http access on port 80 for centos 6.3 from console

    Have a centos 6.3 box running on Parallels and I'm trying to open port 80 to be accesible from outside tried the gui solution from this post and it works, but I need to get it done from a script.   • I would like to pipe output of find into input list of scp, how?

    I'm a novice linux user and I am trying to send a long list of files from one computer to another. The argument list is too long, so I am using find. I am having trouble setting up the expression, though. Can someone help? Here is what I would normally type for a short argument list. scp ./* phogan@computer/directory... Here's I think this might translate into with find. scp find . -name "*" phogan@computer/directory... Maybe I could use piping? Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance.

Well trying to use the jquery UI one, I can't get the input buttons to show up as stars.
