• Printer Communication Capture

  If I need to post this elsewhere let me know. We have some old software thats being re-written, that uses a printerdriver to a propriatery printer. I need to rewrite the software bypassing the print driver and go directly to the printer. I do have the specs for the printer communication, thats fine, but what Id like to do is monitor the communications to the printer to view its contents (from the existing software that Im re-writing) and compare it to the specs, and what I will be sending it for validation. I have to make sure Im not missing anything. Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this? Thanks

  I have a console application written in c++. It simply reads an integer from standard input(keyboard) and writes another integer to standard output(screen). Now I want to give some tests to that program and check its answers using another program. In another words, I want to write electron judge for that program. I want that program(which I want to test) to read from file and write to file without changing source code. How can I do that. • htaccess redirect without user knowing

  We are running multiple domains through the same code and we want to save their images in their respective folders. Here's what we are doing. /images/www.domain1.com/logo.jpg /images/www.domain2.com/logo.jpg now, what I want to know is, is this possible in htaccess that we rewrite the urls without user suspecting anything. This is what I want that <img src="/images/logo.jpg" /> should internally become through htaccess RewriteRule ^images/(.*)$ /images/{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [L,R=301] But my question is, The above redirect continually loops Can I achieve the img effect without user or admin suspecting anything? • Using `rack-rewrite` to Remove the Month and Date from a Permlink

  I've started the process of moving my blog to Octopress, but unfortunately, a limitation of Jekyll doesn't allow me to use abbreviated month names for my permalinks. Therefore I'm looking to just get rid of the month and day bits altogether. I'ved read in this article that you can use rack-rewrite to take care of the redirection, since I am using Heroku to host this. So how would I turn: This: example.com/journal/2012/jan/03/post-of-the-day/ Into this: example.com/journal/2012/post-of-the-day/ Extra points: If I had another rule that redirected /blog/ to /journal/, would that rule still adhere to the above one as well?   I have three methods: public void Save<T>(T entity) { using (new Transaction()) { Session.Save(entity); } } public void Create<T>(T entity) { using (new Transaction()) { Session.Create(entity); } } public void Delete<T>(T entity) { using (new Transaction()) { Session.Delete(entity); } } As you can see, the only thing that differs is the method call inside the using block. How can I rewrite this so it's something like this instead: public void Save<T>(T entity) { TransactionWrapper(Session.Save(entity)); } public void Create<T>(T entity) { TransactionWrapper(Session.Create(entity)); } public void Save<T>(T entity) { TransactionWrapper(Session.Save(entity)); } So in other words, I pass a method call as a parameter, and the TransactionWrapper method wraps a transaction around the method call.

• CAD/CAM without C++

  Hello, Is it possible to do CAD/CAM software without having to use C++? My company developed their software with c/C++ but that was more than 10 years ago. Today,there is a lot of legacy code that switching would force us to get rid of but i was wondering what the actual risks are. We have a lot of mathematical algorithms for toolpath calculations, feature recognition and simulation and 3D Rendering and i was wondering if C# can handles all of that without great performance loss. Is it a utopia to rewrite such algorithms in c# or should that language only deal with UI. We are not talking about game development here (Halo 3 or Call Of Duty) so how much processing does CAD/CAM really need? Can anybody enlighten me on this matter? Most of my colleagues are hardcore C++ programmers and although i program in c++ i love .NET but i am having a hard time selling .NET to them other than basic UI. Does it make sense to consider switching to .NET in such a field, or is it just not a wise idea? Thank you

• Should I create subclass NSManagedObject or not?

  Hi, I have spent a few days learning and writing NSCoding and finally got it working. However, it took very long to archive and unarchive the (quite complex) object graph, which is unacceptable. After searching the internet for some time, I think the better way is to use core data. Do you recommend that 1) I should rewrite all my classes as subclasses of NSManagedObject or 2) should I create an instance variable of NSManagedObject in each of my class so that any changes to the class also updates its core data representation? Doing either way will need significant changes to the exiting classes and I think I have to update lots of unit test cases as well if it changes the way the classes are initialized. What do you recommend? I really don't want to head to the wrong approach again... Thanks!

• Default controller name is removed on browser refresh (CodeigniterPHP/Nginx issue?)

  For all pages in my codeigniter app except my default controller, when I refresh the browser the url isn't affected as one would expect. However for my default controller, main.php, when when I refresh the browser at "http://localhost/main" or "http://mysite.com/main", the main part is stripped off the url. So the browser bar shows just "http://localhost" or "http://mysite.com". Totally lost on where to start with this but was just wondering if anyone has come across this before...? • How do i use shortcuts/lnk on file servers?

  without using a database i wanted a file to point to the newest revision of a file. Someone suggested using a shortcut. Knowing i can rewrite file.ext to file.ext.lnk i thought it was a great idea. Then i tried it, my server (VS 2010rc) serves the shortcut rather then the file. Not what i wanted... How do i serve the file the shortcut is pointing to? NOTE: I am planing to use windows 2008 as my server so a solution should work on that as well. The OS i am running is windows 7.

  Let's say we have def Foo(Bar=0,Song=0): print(Bar) print(Song) And I want to assign any one of the two parameters in the function with the variable sing and SongVal: Sing = Song SongVal = 2 So that it can be run like: Foo(Sing=SongVal) Where Sing would assign the Song parameter to the SongVal which is 2. The result should be printed like so: 0 2 So should I rewrite my function or is it possible to do it the way I want to? (With the code above you get an error saying Foo has no parameter Sing. Which I understand why, any way to overcome this without rewriting the function too much? Thanks in advance!

  I'm currently working on a Drupal site (6.*), which when in production mode will be accessed through some kind of http proxy, which means I will have to rewrite all the links for my custom theme if the $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_SERVER'] variable is set to the domain people will access the site from. The site has a lot of internal linking, mostly through Views. My thought is that the easiest way to solve this would be to hook into the url() and/or the l() functions and post process the url before returning it if HTTP_X_FORWARDED_SERVER is set. My problem is that I can't figure out how to hook into these functions, or if it's even possible without touching the core, has anyone had to do this? How did you solve it?

He wants me to print the files out and mark the problems such as the standard coding conventions, best practices, format, design, and logic.   Hi all, I'm a very young software architect. Now I'm working in a very large and I have to lead a group of developers to rewrite all the mortgage system of the bank. I'm looking at database tables and I realize that there is no any data model, neither documentation. The worst part is that there are about 1000 tables in dev environment, and like 600 in production. I trust more the production environment, but anyway, what can I do? I mean, I can suicide me or something, but is there any good reverse engineering tool, so at least I could get the schema definition with the relations between tables and comments extracted from the fields?   We have a set of C macros, here, for using the preprocessor to do bitfield operations, and we run into warnings when attempting to use these macros in visual studio. The problem can be demonstrated very easily: #define BITFIELD_WIDTHMASK(Width) \ ((Width) >= 32 ? ~0x0ul : (1ul << (Width)) - 1) unsigned long foo(void) { return BITFIELD_WIDTHMASK(32); } Compiling this with MSVC yields the warning: test.c(12) : warning C4293: '<<' : shift count negative or too big, undefined behavior This isn't a behavior problem - the << operator won't be used in this case, and that should be detected at compile time. But does anyone have any suggestions about how to rewrite the macro to avoid the warning? Or, failing that, how to redesign the macro interface for this? Thanks in advance

  Hello. I have a question about sending additional data over soap to the functions. My webService function requests only one integer, for example an getDocumentPrivilage(DocumentID). In another WebService user registered and he got an unique ID, so the other application can see who he is. So on Service one he registers, gets id and it has to send it to the other webservice tor the privilage. Id dont wish to rewrite the function so that it gets the unique ID (like this getDocumentPrivilage(uniqID,DocumentID)) but, the wish is that i would be able to create a client that sends this data at the initialization or somehow as some sort of parameter behind the function. Is this possible?? I tried the ServiceLifecycle but cant see any setting i've given in. Im using WebSphere CE for the server and Jax-ws Creating the webapp in java. • php - efficent way to get and remove first line in file

  Hello, I have a script that each time is called gets the 1st line of a file. Each line is known to be exactly of the same length (32 alphanumerci chars) and terminates with a "\r\n". After getting the 1st line, the script removes it. Now I do in this way: $contents = file_get_contents($file)); $first_line = substr($contents, 0, 32); file_put_contents($file, substr($contents, 32 + 2)); //+2 because we remove also the \r\n Obvioulsy it works, but I was wondering if there could be a smarter (or more efficent) way to do this??? In my simple solution I basically read and rewrite all the file just to take and remove the 1st line. Thanks!

  I have a piece of performance critical code written with pointers and dynamic memory. I would like to rewrite it with STL containers, but I'm a bit concerned with performance. Is there a way to increase the size of a container without initializing the data? For example, instead of doing ptr = new BYTE[x]; I want to do something like vec.insert(vec.begin(), x, 0); However this initializes every byte to 0. Isn't there a way to just make the vector grow? I know about reserve() but it just allocates memory, it doesn't change the size of the vector, and doesn't allows me to access it until I have inserted valid data. Thank you everyone.

• Any way to add an observer to the head of the queue using Element#observe?

  This might not be possible but before I rewrite part of my application I wanted to ask... I have a JavaScript app which creates a submit <input> and observes that input's click event using Prototype's Element#observe function. For a few particular pages on one particular site which uses this app, I need to apply some additional business logic before the code which executes normally when the button is clicked. Is there any way I can use Elemen#observe to add my new event handler before the existing event handler, so I can stop the event if these new conditions aren't met? If not I'll probably solve this the "proper" way by having the application fire a specific beforeTakingAction event and add a listener for that which prevents the application from taking it's action, but that's more complicated than this simple problem requires, and requires rewriting part of a shared application for just one user...

  I have the following TVF for fulltext search: FUNCTION [dbo].[Fishes_FullTextSearch] (@searchtext nvarchar(4000), @limitcount int) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM Fishes INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Fishes, *, @searchtext, @limitcount) AS KEY_TBL ON Fishes.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] When I'm using this TVF, it doesn't return a collection of objects of type Fish (which I want!) - instead LINQ creates a new result type which includes all "Fish" fields and the fields Key and Rank. In another question, it was suggested that I rewrite this TVF into a stored procedure for it to return Fish objects only. Can someone help me do this please? Also, it needs to be ordered by Rank. Thank you!
