  • Queuing rpc calls

    - by alfa64
i'm designing a system wich listen to json rpc calls from clients, piles it up inside a list, and if it gets full it should store them in a DB and keep recieving calls. My original plan is to listen to the rpc calls from Perl with the json-rpc and put them in the array. The clients do some long polling in another server to get responses as they appear. What is this blocking/noblocking thing? Should i do a script for node.js to listen to the calls? What do you think is a good practice in this case? The objective is to listen as much calls as possible.

  • Why do we use networking libraries instead of plain NSURLRequests and NSURLConnection ?

    - by Amogh Talpallikar
in iOS development, I have often seen people creating a networking module to interact with their APIs. This module generally sits on top of a networking framework like MKNetWorkKit or AFNetWorking. In most of the cases, It's all about sending GET,POST request and parsing the response which is in most cases JSON. What extra practical benefits that these libraries provide that an iOS developer should be leveraging which the plain Cocoa Networking APIs lack ? I can understand RESTKit as one exception where it takes care of the conversion of JSON to native objects and also interfaces with Core Data but what about others ?

  • Are separate business objects needed when persistent data can be stored in a usable format?

    - by Kylotan
I have a system where data is stored in a persistent store and read by a server application. Some of this data is only ever seen by the server, but some of it is passed through unaltered to clients. So, there is a big temptation to persist data - whether whole rows/documents or individual fields/sub-documents - in the exact form that the client can use (eg. JSON), as this removes various layers of boilerplate, whether in the form of procedural SQL, an ORM, or any proxy structure which exists just to hold the values before having to re-encode them into a client-suitable form. This form can usually be used on the server too, though business logic may have to live outside of the object, On the other hand, this approach ends up leaking implementation details everywhere. 9 times out of 10 I'm happy just to read a JSON structure out of the DB and send it to the client, but 1 in every 10 times I have to know the details of that implicit structure (and be able to refactor access to it if the stored data ever changes). And this makes me think that maybe I should be pulling this data into separate business objects, so that business logic doesn't have to change when the data schema does. (Though you could argue this just moves the problem rather than solves it.) There is a complicating factor in that our data schema is constantly changing rapidly, to the point where we dropped our previous ORM/RDBMS system in favour of MongoDB and an implicit schema which was much easier to work with. So far I've not decided whether the rapid schema changes make me wish for separate business objects (so that server-side calculations need less refactoring, since all changes are restricted to the persistence layer) or for no separate business objects (because every change to the schema requires the business objects to change to stay in sync, even if the new sub-object or field is never used on the server except to pass verbatim to a client). So my question is whether it is sensible to store objects in the form they are usually going to be used, or if it's better to copy them into intermediate business objects to insulate both sides from each other (even when that isn't strictly necessary)? And I'd like to hear from anybody else who has had experience of a similar situation, perhaps choosing to persist XML or JSON instead of having an explicit schema which has to be assembled into a client format each time.

  • DDD: service contains two repository

    - by tikhop
Does it correct way to have two repository inside one service and will it be an application or domain service? Suppose I have a Passenger object that should contains Passport (government id) object. I am getting Passenger from PassengerRepository. PassengerRepository create request to server and obtain data (json) than parse received data and store inside repository. I have confused because I want to store Passport as Entity and put it to PassportRepository but all information about password contains inside json than i received above. I guess that I should create a PassengerService that will be include PassengerRepository and PassportRepository with several methods like removePassport, addPassport, getAllPassenger and etc. UPDATE: So I guess that the better way is represent Passport as VO and store all passports inside Passenger aggregate. However there is another question: Where I should put the methods (methods calls server api) for management passenger's passport. I think the better place is so within Passenger aggregate.

  • puppet master --compile logs errors to stdout

    - by danny
I see a bug about this that was accepted and then closed a year ago: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/3670 but I'm using puppet 2.7.14 and am getting the same issue. I'm trying to use "puppet solo" (i.e. just running puppet apply on each server to be configured) as I only have 2 or 3 servers in this project and adding another server as a puppetmaster would be completely overkill. Unless I'm mistaken, the best way to apply a node manually to a server is to do: puppet master --compile=mynode > catalog.json puppet apply --catalog catalog.json But the puppet master command outputs a couple of warnings and notices to stdout, mixed in with the desired json content. And it uses colored output so I can't just pipe it through egrep -v '^warning:' EDIT: I guess it's not too big of a deal to use grep - since puppet 2.7 pretty-prints the actual content and the warnings don't ever start with spaces, piping the output through egrep '^( |{|})' works So my questions are basically: Is there a better way than this to apply a puppet node without using a puppetmaster? I can't really find any good references online to using puppet without a puppetmaster, even though that seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do for a small project. Is there a setting or flag that I'm missing that will get puppet master to stop being an asshole and send its errors to stderr instead of stdout? Or do I really have to turn off color logging, then grep to exclude warning: and notice: lines?

  • litespeed issue with content-type

    - by sandeep.s85
I am running magento with litespeed. The problem I am facing is that ajax call is being made of which header is set as x-json, but lightspeed is setting another header of text/html content type I've checked that page with apache and everything is working fine. I checked the response headers with apache and litespeed and here are they: With apache: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2012 05:58:47 GMT Server: Apache Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Set-Cookie: frontend=164b21c64808a05e806027bdbd4d745d; expires=Fri, 07-Sep-2012 06:58:48 GMT; path=/; domain=mydomain.com; httponly Connection: close Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: application/x-json With litespeed: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2012 06:10:55 GMT Server: LiteSpeed Connection: close Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0 Pragma: no-cache Set-Cookie: frontend=164b21c64808a05e806027bdbd4d745d; expires=Fri, 07-Sep-2012 07:10:55 GMT; path=/; domain=mydomain.com; httponly Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Length: 474 Vary: User-Agent I've also added application/json to mime.properties of litespeed, restarted it but that did not work. • How to set JS source directory in apache2?

    - by highBandWidth
I am trying to run a very basic webserver for development/debugging. The static HTML seems to be delivered correctly, but it seems that the JavaScript libraries are not being delivered to the browser. The page HTML says something like <html> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src="/lib/json.js"></script> ... Now, I have set up a link for /lib/ in my httpd.conf as: Scriptalias /lib/ "/SomeFolder/lib/" When I do this, it can't fetch the files because this is what I see in my apache error log: ... [error] [client ::1] client denied by server configuration: /SomeFolder/lib/json.js, referer: http://localhost/SomeSite It seems that apache is not allowing access to the folder, so I add this to httpd.conf: Directory "/SomeFolder/lib/"> Allow from all </Directory> After this, browsing the page still does not run the JS, instead I see the following error in my apache error log: [error] [client ::1] (13)Permission denied: exec of '/SomeFolder/lib/json.js' failed, referer: http://localhost/SomeSite So now, it seems that apache is trying to run the JS files on the server like a cgi script or something. But I have not made that folder a cgi-bin folder. The only lines where SomeFolder is mentioned by name is in these lines in httpd.conf: Scriptalias /lib/ "/SomeFolder/lib/" Directory "/SomeFolder/lib/"> Allow from all </Directory>

  • How to have SSL on Amazon Elastic Load Balancer with a Gunicorn EC2 server?

    - by Riegie Godwin
I'm a self taught back end engineer so I'm learning all of this stuff as I go along. For the longest time, I've been using basic authentication for my users. Many developers are advising against this approach since each request will contain the username & password in clear text. Anyone with the right skills can sniff on the connection between my iOS application and my Django/Gunicorn Server and obtain their password. I wouldn't want to put my user's credentials at risk so I would like to implement a more secure way of authentication. SSL seems to be the most viable option. My server doesn't serve any static content or anything crazy of that sort. All the server does is send and receive "json" responses from and to my iOS application. Here is my current topology. iOS application ------ Amazon Elastic Load Balancer ------- EC2 Instances running HTTP Gunicorn. Gunicorn runs on port 8000. I have a CNAME record from GoDaddy for the Amazon Elastic Load Balancer DNS. So instead of using the long DNS to make requests, I just use server.example.com. To interact with my servers I send and receive requests to server.example.com:8000/ This setup works and has been solid. However I need to have a more secure way. I would like to setup SSL between my iOS application and my Elastic Load Balancer. How can I go about doing this? Since I am only sending json responses to my application, do I really need to buy a certificate from a CA or can I create my own? (since browsers will not be interacting with my servers. My servers are only designed to send json responses to my iOS application).

  • How to replace the domain name in a Wordpress database?

    - by Cristian
I have a Wordpress database which was installed in a development environment... thus, all references to the site itself have a fixed IP address (say 192.168.16.2). Now, I have to migrate that database to a new Wordpress installation on a hosting. The problem is that the SQL dump contains a lot of references to the IP address, and I have to replace it with: my_domain.com. I could use sed or some other command to change the that from the command line, the problem is that there are a lot of configuration data which uses JSON. So what? Well, as you know, JSON arrays uses things like: s:4: to know how many chars an element has, and thus, if I just replace the IP with the domain name, the configuration files will get corrupted. I used an app for Windows some years ago that allows to change values in a database and takes care of the JSON arrays. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the app... so the question is: do you know any app that allows me to do what I want?

  • nginx and proxy_hide_header

  • Serialize a C# class to xml. Store the XML as a string in SQL Server and then restore the class late

    - by BrianK
I want to serialize a class to xml and store that in a field in a database. I can serialize with this: StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(); XmlSerializer xmlser = new XmlSerializer(typeof(MyClass)); xmlser.Serialize(sw, myClassVariable); string s = sw.ToString(); sw.Close(); Thats works, but it has the namesapces in it. xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" Will these slow down the deserialization because it will go out to those and verify the XML? I got rid of the namespaces by creating a blank XmlSerializerNamespaces and using that to serialize, but then the xml still had namespaces around integer variables: <anyType xmlns:q1="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" d3p1:type="q1:int" xmlns:d3p1="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> 3 </anyType> My question is: Is it necessary to have the namesapces for deserialization and if not, how to get rid of them? How do I tell it fields are ints so it doesnt put in "anytype" Thanks, Brian

  • How to deserialize implementation classes in OSGi

    - by Daniel Schneller
In an eRCP OSGi based application the user can push a button and go to a lock screen similar to that of Windows or Mac OS X. When this happens, the current state of the application is serialized to a file and control is handed over to the lock screen. In this mobile application memory is very tight, so we need to get rid of the original view/controller when the lock screen comes up. This works fine and we end up with a binary serialized file. Once the user logs back in, the file is read in again and the original state of the application restored. This works fine as well, except when the controller that was serialized contained a reference to an object which comes from a different bundle. In my concrete case the original controller (from bundle A) can call a web service and gets a result back. Nothing fancy, just some Strings and Numbers in a simple value holder class. However the controller only sees this as a Result interface; the actual runtime object (ResultImpl) is defined and created in a different bundle (bundle B, the webservice client implementation) and returned via a service call. When the deserialization now tries to thaw the controller from the file, it throws a ClassNotFound exception, complaining about not being able to deserialize the result object, because deserialization is called from bundle A, which cannot see the ResultImpl class from bundle B. Any ideas on how to work around that? The only thing I could come up with is to clone all the individual values into another object, defined in the controller's bundle, but this seems like quite a hassle.

  • Selenium Webdriver (FirefoxDriver)

    - by Samareri
Hey all, I'm using Selenium Webdriver to do some robottesting. Since some functions appear to only work in Firefox, I'm obligated to use Firefoxdriver. Now and then, something weird happens. Starting up te driver driver = new FirefoxDriver(); driver.get(URL); gets firefox to startup but not to go to the specified url. The strange thing is that it works on another computer with the same preferences set in Firefox. I solved this problem once by changing to another version of firefox, but this time this doesn't do the trick for me, it did however worked for the other developers. Yes, the error started for all developers on the same time, same day... My first question is: is it a firefox problem or Webdriver problem. Second question: how is it possible that it works on other pc's? Any help would be very appreciated Thanks Error: org.openqa.selenium.WebDriverException: Could not parse "". • Problem with Twitter basic authentication using AJAX

    - by jelford
I'm developing a javascript App that needs, as part of its functionality, for users to be able to update their Twitter status. The App is designed to work on mobiles, and as such I don't really want to be sending users all the way over to the Twitter site to sign in; they should just be able to pass their credentials to the app, and I'll handle all the signin. So I'm trying to use the Basic Auth with the restful API. My code looks like: function postTweet(input){ $.ajax( { type: "POST", url: "http://twitter.com/statuses/update.json", data: {status: input}, dataType: "json", error: function() { alert("Some error occured"); }, success: function() { alert("Success!"); }, beforeSend: function(request) { request.setRequestHeader("Authorization", "Basic BASE64OFMYCREDENTIALS");} } ) ; } So, as far as I'm aware, this should perform the authentication from the XMLHttpRequest header, and then post the status. However, whenever I call this code, I get a "401 Unauthorized" error from Twitter. Below are the request & response headers from firebug: Request: OPTIONS /statuses/update.json HTTP/1.1 Host: twitter.com User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-gb,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Connection: keep-alive Origin: null Access-Control-Request-Method: POST Access-Control-Request-Headers: authorization Response: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2010 11:08:58 GMT Server: hi Status: 401 Unauthorized WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="Twitter API" X-Runtime: 0.00204 Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8 Cache-Control: no-cache, max-age=300 Set-Cookie: guest_id=1268478538488; path=/ _twitter_sess=BAh7CDoPY3JlYXRlZF9hdGwrCPlyNlcnAToHaWQiJWUyN2YzYjc3OTk2NGQ3%250ANzJkYTA4MjYzOWJmYTQyYmUyIgpmbGFzaElDOidBY3Rpb25Db250cm9sbGVy%250AOjpGbGFzaDo6Rmxhc2hIYXNoewAGOgpAdXNlZHsA--d687808459872da0aa6a89cab35fd347300b4d07; domain=.twitter.com; path=/ Expires: Sat, 13 Mar 2010 11:13:58 GMT Vary: Accept-Encoding Content-Encoding: gzip Content-Length: 88 Connection: close Any help with this would be much appreciated, Thanks, jelford ps. • IOS - Performance Issues with SVProgressHUD

    - by ScottOBot
I have a section of code that is producing pour performance and not working as expected. it utilizes the SVProgressHUD from the following github repository at https://github.com/samvermette/SVProgressHUD. I have an area of code where I need to use [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error]. I want to have a progress hud displayed before the synchronous request and then dismissed after the request has finished. Here is the code in question: //Display the progress HUB [SVProgressHUD showWithStatus:@"Signing Up..." maskType:SVProgressHUDMaskTypeClear]; NSError* error; NSURLResponse *response = nil; [self setUserCredentials]; // create json object for a users session NSDictionary* session = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: firstName, @"first_name", lastName, @"last_name", email, @"email", password, @"password", nil]; NSData *jsonSession = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:session options:NSJSONWritingPrettyPrinted error:&error]; NSString *url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@api/v1/users.json", CoffeeURL]; NSURL *URL = [NSURL URLWithString:url]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:URL cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:30.0]; [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; [request setValue:@"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Accept"]; [request setValue:@"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [request setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [jsonSession length]] forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; [request setHTTPBody:jsonSession]; NSData *data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error]; NSString *dataString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSDictionary *JSONResponse = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[dataString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] options:NSJSONReadingMutableContainers error:&error]; NSHTTPURLResponse *httpResponse = (NSHTTPURLResponse *)response; NSInteger statusCode = httpResponse.statusCode; NSLog(@"Status: %d", statusCode); if (JSONResponse != nil && statusCode == 200) { //Dismiss progress HUB here [SVProgressHUD dismiss]; return YES; } else { [SVProgressHUD dismiss]; return NO; } For some reason the synchronous request blocks the HUB from being displayed. It displays immediately after the synchronous request happens, unfortunatly this is also when it is dismissed. The behaviour displayed to the user is that the app hangs, waits for the synchronous request to finish, quickly flashes the HUB and then becomes responsive again. How can I fix this issue? I want the SVProgressHUB to be displayed during this hang time, how can I do this?
