  • RegGetValue vs RegQueryValueEx

    - by baltusaj
I have a program coded by someone else. It has a function RegGetValue used as: uFuncReturnValue = RegOpenKeyExA( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, acSubKey, NULL, KEY_READ | KEY_WRITE, &hRegistry ); if( uFuncReturnValue != ERROR_SUCCESS ) { printf("Unable to open registry with error %u\n", uFuncReturnValue); exit(EXIT_FAILURE);; } uFuncReturnValue = RegGetValueA( hRegistry, NULL, "\\DosDevices\\C:", RRF_RT_REG_BINARY, NULL, (LPVOID)&structVal, &dwSize ); This block of code works perfectly on Windows 7 but returns error when run on Windows XP (32 bit). As 32-bit xp don't have RegGetValue function so I am trying to make use of RegQueryValueEX but I am having problem in passing arguments to this function. I think it should be used some thing like: uFuncReturnValue = RegQueryValueExA ( hRegistry, "\\DosDevices\\J:", NULL, NULL, (LPBYTE) &structVal, &dwSize ); But something is wrong here because the code compiles successfully but when I execute it I get a message: The program '(128) myProgram.exe: Native' has exited with code 1 (0x1). Can someone help me here please?

  • Custom Paging for GridView in an UpdatePanel not firing PageIndexChanging event

    - by JeffCren
    I have a GridView that uses custom paging inside an UpdatePanel (so that the paging and sorting of the gridview don't cause postback). The sorting works fine, but the paging doesn't. The PageIndexChanging event is never called. This is the aspx code: <asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="upSearchResults" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Always"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:GridView ID="gvSearchResults" runat="server" AllowSorting="true" AutoGenerateColumns="false" AllowPaging="true" PageSize="10" OnDataBound="gvSearchResults_DataBound" OnRowDataBound ="gvSearchResults_RowDataBound" OnSorting="gvSearchResults_Sorting" OnPageIndexChanging="gvSearchResults_PageIndexChanging" Width="100%" EnableSortingAndPagingCallbacks="false"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Select" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:HyperLink ID="lnkAdd" runat="server">Add</asp:HyperLink> <asp:HiddenField ID="hfPersonId" runat="server" Value='<%# Eval("Id") %>'/> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="First Name" DataField="FirstName" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" SortExpression="FirstName" /> <asp:BoundField HeaderText="Last Name" DataField="LastName" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" SortExpression="LastName" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Phone Number" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" > <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblPhone" runat="server" Text="" /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> <PagerTemplate> <table width="100%" class="pager"> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> </table> </PagerTemplate> </asp:GridView> <div class="btnContainer"> <div class="btn btn-height_small btn-style_dominant"> <asp:LinkButton ID="lbtNewRecord" runat="server" OnClick="lbtNewRecord_Click"><span>Create New Record</span></asp:LinkButton> </div> <div class="btn btn-height_small btn-style_subtle"> <a onclick="openParticipantModal();"><span>Cancel</span></a> </div> </div> </ContentTemplate> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="gvSearchResults" EventName="PageIndexChanging" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="gvSearchResults" EventName="Sorting" /> </Triggers> </asp:UpdatePanel> In the code behind I have a SetPaging method that is called on the GridView OnDataBound event: private void SetPaging(GridView gv) { GridViewRow row = gv.BottomPagerRow; var place = row.Cells[0]; var first = new LinkButton(); first.CommandName = "Page"; first.CommandArgument = "First"; first.Text = "First"; first.ToolTip = "First Page"; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(first); var lbl = new Label(); lbl.Text = " "; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl); var prev = new LinkButton(); prev.CommandName = "Page"; prev.CommandArgument = "Prev"; prev.Text = "Prev"; prev.ToolTip = "Previous Page"; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(prev); var lbl2 = new Label(); lbl2.Text = " "; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl2); for (int i = 1; i <= gv.PageCount; i++) { var btn = new LinkButton(); btn.CommandName = "Page"; btn.CommandArgument = i.ToString(); if (i == gv.PageIndex + 1) { btn.BackColor = Color.Gray; } btn.Text = i.ToString(); btn.ToolTip = "Page " + i.ToString(); if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(btn); var lbl3 = new Label(); lbl3.Text = " "; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl3); } var next = new LinkButton(); next.CommandName = "Page"; next.CommandArgument = "Next"; next.Text = "Next"; next.ToolTip = "Next Page"; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(next); var lbl4 = new Label(); lbl4.Text = " "; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl4); var last = new LinkButton(); last.CommandName = "Page"; last.CommandArgument = "Last"; last.Text = "Last"; last.ToolTip = "Last Page"; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(last); var lbl5 = new Label(); lbl5.Text = " "; if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl5); } The paging works if I don't use custom paging, but I really need to use the custom paging. I can't figure out why the PageIndexChanging event isn't fired when I'm using the custom paging. Thanks, Jeff

  • Getting the innermost .NET Exception

    - by Rick Strahl
Here's a trivial but quite useful function that I frequently need in dynamic execution of code: Finding the innermost exception when an exception occurs, because for many operations (for example Reflection invocations or Web Service calls) the top level errors returned can be rather generic. A good example - common with errors in Reflection making a method invocation - is this generic error: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation In the debugger it looks like this: In this case this is an AJAX callback, which dynamically executes a method (ExecuteMethod code) which in turn calls into an Amazon Web Service using the old Amazon WSE101 Web service extensions for .NET. An error occurs in the Web Service call and the innermost exception holds the useful error information which in this case points at an invalid web.config key value related to the System.Net connection APIs. The "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" error is the Reflection APIs generic error message that gets fired when you execute a method dynamically and that method fails internally. The messages basically says: "Your code blew up in my face when I tried to run it!". Which of course is not very useful to tell you what actually happened. If you drill down the InnerExceptions eventually you'll get a more detailed exception that points at the original error and code that caused the exception. In the code above the actually useful exception is two innerExceptions down. In most (but not all) cases when inner exceptions are returned, it's the innermost exception that has the information that is really useful. It's of course a fairly trivial task to do this in code, but I do it so frequently that I use a small helper method for this: /// <summary> /// Returns the innermost Exception for an object /// </summary> /// <param name="ex"></param> /// <returns></returns> public static Exception GetInnerMostException(Exception ex) { Exception currentEx = ex; while (currentEx.InnerException != null) { currentEx = currentEx.InnerException; } return currentEx; } This code just loops through all the inner exceptions (if any) and assigns them to a temporary variable until there are no more inner exceptions. The end result is that you get the innermost exception returned from the original exception. It's easy to use this code then in a try/catch handler like this (from the example above) to retrieve the more important innermost exception: object result = null; string stringResult = null; try { if (parameterList != null) // use the supplied parameter list result = helper.ExecuteMethod(methodToCall, target, parameterList.ToArray(), CallbackMethodParameterType.Json, ref attr); else // grab the info out of QueryString Values or POST buffer during parameter parsing // for optimization result = helper.ExecuteMethod(methodToCall, target, null, CallbackMethodParameterType.Json, ref attr); } catch (Exception ex) { Exception activeException = DebugUtils.GetInnerMostException(ex); WriteErrorResponse(activeException.Message, ( HttpContext.Current.IsDebuggingEnabled ? ex.StackTrace : null ) ); return; } Another function that is useful to me from time to time is one that returns all inner exceptions and the original exception as an array: /// <summary> /// Returns an array of the entire exception list in reverse order /// (innermost to outermost exception) /// </summary> /// <param name="ex">The original exception to work off</param> /// <returns>Array of Exceptions from innermost to outermost</returns> public static Exception[] GetInnerExceptions(Exception ex) {     List<Exception> exceptions = new List<Exception>();     exceptions.Add(ex);       Exception currentEx = ex;     while (currentEx.InnerException != null)     {         exceptions.Add(ex);     }       // Reverse the order to the innermost is first     exceptions.Reverse();       return exceptions.ToArray(); } This function loops through all the InnerExceptions and returns them and then reverses the order of the array returning the innermost exception first. This can be useful in certain error scenarios where exceptions stack and you need to display information from more than one of the exceptions in order to create a useful error message. This is rare but certain database exceptions bury their exception info in mutliple inner exceptions and it's easier to parse through them in an array then to manually walk the exception stack. It's also useful if you need to log errors and want to see the all of the error detail from all exceptions. None of this is rocket science, but it's useful to have some helpers that make retrieval of the critical exception info trivial. • Multi-statement Table Valued Function vs Inline Table Valued Function

    - by AndyC
ie: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetUnshippedOrders() RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT a.SaleId, a.CustomerID, b.Qty FROM Sales.Sales a INNER JOIN Sales.SaleDetail b ON a.SaleId = b.SaleId INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.ShipDate IS NULL GO versus: CREATE FUNCTION MyNS.GetLastShipped(@CustomerID INT) RETURNS @CustomerOrder TABLE (SaleOrderID INT NOT NULL, CustomerID INT NOT NULL, OrderDate DATETIME NOT NULL, OrderQty INT NOT NULL) AS BEGIN DECLARE @MaxDate DATETIME SELECT @MaxDate = MAX(OrderDate) FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader WHERE CustomerID = @CustomerID INSERT @CustomerOrder SELECT a.SalesOrderID, a.CustomerID, a.OrderDate, b.OrderQty FROM Sales.SalesOrderHeader a INNER JOIN Sales.SalesOrderHeader b ON a.SalesOrderID = b.SalesOrderID INNER JOIN Production.Product c ON b.ProductID = c.ProductID WHERE a.OrderDate = @MaxDate AND a.CustomerID = @CustomerID RETURN END GO Is there an advantage to using one over the other? Is there certain scenarios when one is better than the other or are the differences purely syntactical? I realise the 2 example queries are doing different things but is there a reason I would write them in that way? Reading about them and the advantages/differences haven't really been explained. Thanks

  • Rendering ASP.NET MVC Razor Views outside of MVC revisited

    - by Rick Strahl
Last year I posted a detailed article on how to render Razor Views to string both inside of ASP.NET MVC and outside of it. In that article I showed several different approaches to capture the rendering output. The first and easiest is to use an existing MVC Controller Context to render a view by simply passing the controller context which is fairly trivial and I demonstrated a simple ViewRenderer class that simplified the process down to a couple lines of code. However, if no Controller Context is available the process is not quite as straight forward and I referenced an old, much more complex example that uses my RazorHosting library, which is a custom self-contained implementation of the Razor templating engine that can be hosted completely outside of ASP.NET. While it works inside of ASP.NET, it’s an awkward solution when running inside of ASP.NET, because it requires a bit of setup to run efficiently.Well, it turns out that I missed something in the original article, namely that it is possible to create a ControllerContext, if you have a controller instance, even if MVC didn’t create that instance. Creating a Controller Instance outside of MVCThe trick to make this work is to create an MVC Controller instance – any Controller instance – and then configure a ControllerContext through that instance. As long as an HttpContext.Current is available it’s possible to create a fully functional controller context as Razor can get all the necessary context information from the HttpContextWrapper().The key to make this work is the following method:/// <summary> /// Creates an instance of an MVC controller from scratch /// when no existing ControllerContext is present /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="T">Type of the controller to create</typeparam> /// <returns>Controller Context for T</returns> /// <exception cref="InvalidOperationException">thrown if HttpContext not available</exception> public static T CreateController<T>(RouteData routeData = null) where T : Controller, new() { // create a disconnected controller instance T controller = new T(); // get context wrapper from HttpContext if available HttpContextBase wrapper = null; if (HttpContext.Current != null) wrapper = new HttpContextWrapper(System.Web.HttpContext.Current); else throw new InvalidOperationException( "Can't create Controller Context if no active HttpContext instance is available."); if (routeData == null) routeData = new RouteData(); // add the controller routing if not existing if (!routeData.Values.ContainsKey("controller") && !routeData.Values.ContainsKey("Controller")) routeData.Values.Add("controller", controller.GetType().Name .ToLower() .Replace("controller", "")); controller.ControllerContext = new ControllerContext(wrapper, routeData, controller); return controller; }This method creates an instance of a Controller class from an existing HttpContext which means this code should work from anywhere within ASP.NET to create a controller instance that’s ready to be rendered. This means you can use this from within an Application_Error handler as I needed to or even from within a WebAPI controller as long as it’s running inside of ASP.NET (ie. not self-hosted). Nice.So using the ViewRenderer class from the previous article I can now very easily render an MVC view outside of the context of MVC. Here’s what I ended up in my Application’s custom error HttpModule: protected override void OnDisplayError(WebErrorHandler errorHandler, ErrorViewModel model) { var Response = HttpContext.Current.Response; Response.ContentType = "text/html"; Response.StatusCode = errorHandler.OriginalHttpStatusCode; var context = ViewRenderer.CreateController<ErrorController>().ControllerContext; var renderer = new ViewRenderer(context); string html = renderer.RenderView("~/Views/Shared/GenericError.cshtml", model); Response.Write(html); }That’s pretty sweet, because it’s now possible to use ViewRenderer just about anywhere in any ASP.NET application, not only inside of controller code. This also allows the constructor for the ViewRenderer from the last article to work without a controller context parameter, using a generic view as a base for the controller context when not passed:public ViewRenderer(ControllerContext controllerContext = null) { // Create a known controller from HttpContext if no context is passed if (controllerContext == null) { if (HttpContext.Current != null) controllerContext = CreateController<ErrorController>().ControllerContext; else throw new InvalidOperationException( "ViewRenderer must run in the context of an ASP.NET " + "Application and requires HttpContext.Current to be present."); } Context = controllerContext; }In this case I use the ErrorController class which is a generic controller instance that exists in the same assembly as my ViewRenderer class and that works just fine since ‘generically’ rendered views tend to not rely on anything from the controller other than the model which is explicitly passed. While these days most of my apps use MVC I do still have a number of generic pieces in most of these applications where Razor comes in handy. This includes modules like the above, which when they error often need to display error output. In other cases I need to generate string template output for emailing or logging data to disk. Being able to render simply render an arbitrary View to and pass in a model makes this super nice and easy at least within the context of an ASP.NET application! You can check out the updated ViewRenderer class below to render your ‘generic views’ from anywhere within your ASP.NET applications. • Get Members of Band

    - by user168083
If I look at the Freebase page for the band '311', I see Chad Sexton listed. http://www.freebase.com/view/en/311 I am trying to query for the members of a band : { "name" : "311", "/music/artist/album" : [{"name":null, "id":null, "optional": true}], "type|=" : ["/music/artist","/music/musical_group"], "/award/award_winner/awards_won" : ["award":null, "optional" => true], "/award/award_nominated_work/award_nominations" : ["award":null, "optional" => true], "/music/artist/supporting_artists":[{}] } I thought supporting_artists would return the band member names, but the array is always empty. But if I query for all properties related to Chad Sexton, I don't see 311 mentioned. But he is listed as member on the Freebase web info page (which is correct). { "*": null, "name": "Chad Sexton", "type": "/music/artist" } How can I grab the band member names along with the band info?

  • Creating and Indexing Email Database using SqlCe

    - by Anindya Chatterjee
I am creating a simple email client program. I am using MS SqlCe as a storage of emails. The database schema for storing the message is as follows: StorageId int IDENTITY NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, FolderName nvarchar(255) NOT NULL, MessageId nvarchar(3999) NOT NULL, MessageDate datetime NOT NULL, StorageData ntext NULL In the StorageData field I am going to store the MIME message as byte array. But the problem arises when I am going to implement search on the stored messages. I have no idea how I am going to index the messages on top of this schema. Can anyone please help me in suggesting a good but simple schema, so that it will be effective in terms of storage space and search friendliness as well? Regards, Anindya Chatterjee

  • I can't make this query work with SUM function

    - by Mehper C. Palavuzlar
This query gives an error: select ep, case when ob is null and b2b_ob is null then 'a' when ob is not null or b2b_ob is not null then 'b' else null end as type, sum(b2b_d + b2b_t - b2b_i) as sales from table where ... group by ep, type Error: ORA-00904: "TYPE": invalid identifier When I run it with group by ep, the error message becomes: ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression The whole query works OK if I remove the lines sum(b2b_d+b2b_t-b2b_i) as sales and group by ..., so the problem should be related to SUM and GROUP BY functions. How can I make this work? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Review my ASP.NET Authentication code.

    - by Niels Bosma
I have had some problems with authentication in ASP.NET. I'm not used most of the built in authentication in .NET. I gotten some complaints from users using Internet Explorer (any version - may affect other browsers as well) that the login process proceeds but when redirected they aren't authenticated and are bounced back to loginpage (pages that require authentication check if logged in and if not redirect back to loginpage). Can this be a cookie problem? Do I need to check if cookies are enabled by the user? What's the best way to build authentication if you have a custom member table and don't want to use ASP.NET login controls? Whatever the methods and technologies you would advise me. applications built on the basis Asp.NET MVC 2. I have a database table in MS SQL Server. For each database, I must implement the interface for viewing, editing, and deleting. So code generator must generate model, controller and views.. Generation should happen after clicking on the button. as model I use .NET Entity Framework. Now, I need to generate controllers and views. So if i have a table with name tableN1. and below its colums: [ID] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [name] [nvarchar 20] NOT NULL, [fullName] [nvarchar 50] NOT NULL, [age] [int] NOT NULL [active] [bit] NULL for this table, i want to generate views and controller. thanks.

  • MySQL unique clustered constraint not constraining as expected

  • Simple ranking algorithm in Groovy

  • Asp.Net MVC and ajax async callback execution order

    - by lrb
I have been sorting through this issue all day and hope someone can help pinpoint my problem. I have created a "asynchronous progress callback" type functionality in my app using ajax. When I strip the functionality out into a test application I get the desired results. See image below: Desired Functionality When I tie the functionality into my single page application using the same code I get a sort of blocking issue where all requests are responded to only after the last task has completed. In the test app above all request are responded to in order. The server reports a ("pending") state for all requests until the controller method has completed. Can anyone give me a hint as to what could cause the change in behavior? Preview must be started before you can take a picture. */ mCamera.startPreview(); } @Override public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void surfaceDestroyed(SurfaceHolder holder) { // Surface will be destroyed when we return, so stop the preview. if (mCamera != null) { /* Call stopPreview() to stop updating the preview surface. */ mCamera.stopPreview(); } } /** * When this function returns, mCamera will be null. */ private void stopPreviewAndFreeCamera() { if (mCamera != null) { /* Call stopPreview() to stop updating the preview surface. */ mCamera.stopPreview(); /* Important: Call release() to release the camera for use by other applications. Applications should release the camera immediately in onPause() (and re-open() it in onResume()). */ mCamera.release(); mCamera = null; } } public void setCamera(Camera camera) { if (mCamera == camera) { return; } stopPreviewAndFreeCamera(); mCamera = camera; if (mCamera != null) { List<Size> localSizes = mCamera.getParameters().getSupportedPreviewSizes(); mSupportedPreviewSizes = localSizes; requestLayout(); try { mCamera.setPreviewDisplay(mHolder); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } /* Important: Call startPreview() to start updating the preview surface. Preview must be started before you can take a picture. */ mCamera.startPreview(); } } public boolean safeCameraOpen(int id) { boolean qOpened = false; try { releaseCameraAndPreview(); mCamera = Camera.open(id); mCamera.startPreview(); qOpened = (mCamera != null); } catch (Exception e) { // Log.e(R.string.app_name, "failed to open Camera"); e.printStackTrace(); } return qOpened; } Camera.PictureCallback mPicCallback = new Camera.PictureCallback() { @Override public void onPictureTaken(byte[] data, Camera camera) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Log.d("lala", "pic is taken"); } }; public void takePic() { mCamera.startPreview(); // mCamera.takePicture(null, mPicCallback, mPicCallback); } private void releaseCameraAndPreview() { this.setCamera(null); if (mCamera != null) { mCamera.release(); mCamera = null; } } } This is the Layout of CameraActivity: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" tools:context=".CameraActivity" > <FrameLayout android:id="@+id/camera_preview" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" /> <Button android:id="@+id/button_capture" android:text="Capture" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center" /> </LinearLayout> But when i start the CameraActivity, i just see a blank white background and the Capture-Button??? Why i dont see the Camera-Screen?

  • Cannot find sleep function

    - by Tyzak
hello, i'm new at C Programming (i learned c++) i want to create a process with windows.h at first i just want to start my main programm that creates a process ( -- starts an other programm) that's my code, but it doesn't really work, i removed every unnessasery line of code but "void sleep(700)" (or "sleep (700)" for testing if the windows methods work, but i get an error, that "sleep" cant be found. #include <iostream> #include <windows.h> #include <string> using namespace std; void main() { //bool ret; //startupinfo stupinfo; //prozess_information pro2info; //Getstartupinfo (&stupinfo); //createprozess(null, "C:\\bsss10\\betriebssystemePRA1.exe", null, null, false, create_new_console, null, // null, &stupinfo, &pro2info); sleep (700); cout<< "hello"; } thanks in advance
