  • No unity-greeter.conf file in /etc/lightdm/

    - by drofart
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome-shell. I have two admin user accounts. Now, I used to know that in Precise we can set different different login wallpaper to different different user, so I tried with: sudo dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.Accounts /org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1001 org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetBackgroundFile string:/usr/share/backgrounds/Green-wallpaper-27.jpg but to no avail. Then I tried sudo xhost +SI:localuser:lightdm sudo su lightdm -s /bin/bash gsettings set com.canonical.unity-greeter background '/path/to/the/wallpaper.png' It does change my login wallpaper but for all users. Then I tried to locate /etc/lightdm/unity-greeter.conf but I found that it is not there. So where is it and how can I set different login wallpapers for different users?

  • Question about JPanel "transition" for Java Swing

    - by user16778
I want to make like a sort of main menu (in GUI). When the user clicks the start button, the screen transition into another "screen" (JPanel). This image will make it easier to understand. http://i.imgur.com/Cfdry.png Currently, I have a MainMenu extends JPanel and that gets added into a driver class with a JFrame. I can't figure how to switch to another class like Game extends JPanel. So when the user clicks the start button in MainMenu, I want it to somehow hide itself and the Game to show itself. Thanks.

  • How should I handle missing resources?

    - by concept3d
Your game expects a certain asset to be loaded, but it isn't found. How should the situation be handled? For example: Texture* grassTexture = LoadTexture("Grass.png"); // returns NULL; texture not found Mesh* car = LoadMesh("Car.obj"); // returns NULL; 3D mesh not found It might have been accidentally deleted by the user, corrupted or misspelled while in development. Some potential responses: Assertions (ideally only during development) Exit the game gracefully Throw an exception and try to handle it. Which way is best?

  • KDE's Dolphin Can't See Connected devices such as Nikon, Canon Cameras

    - by Swapnil
I have noticed this problem across all distros including Kubuntu and openSUSE. Many times my Nikon D 7000 and Canon HF 11 are not seen or mounted by Dolphin. When I connect the Cameras I don't get any notification in the tray which otherwise shows connected device. Ironically when I open Nautilus then I can clearly see the cameras mounted. I also have a request that what these devices don't appear on Dolphin's side panel automatically. It makes life easier for a users. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dolphin/+bug/956806/+attachment/2879913/+files/dolphin.png

  • Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1: #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1

    - by delabassee
'Spotlight on GlassFish 4.1' is a series of posts that highlights specific enhancements of the upcoming GlassFish 4.1 release. It could be a new feature, a fix, a behavior change, a tip, etc. #6 Java API for WebSocket 1.1 JSR 356 (Java API for WebSocket) has recently passed the Maintenance Release ballot, this Maintenance Release fixes an important issue when Java SE 8 Lambdas are used (see here). GlassFish 4.1 will include an updated version of Tyrus (JSR 356 Reference Implementation) to bring the WebSocket API level to the latest version of the specification, i.e. WebSocket API for Java 1.1. It should be mentioned that the Tyrus version included in GlassFish 4.1 also brings additional features. Some of those will be highlighted in upcoming entries. https://blogs.oracle.com/theaquarium/resource/websocket_logo.png

  • How can I convert an image from raw data in Android without any munging?

    - by stephelton
I have raw image data (may be .png, .jpg, ...) and I want it converted in Android without changing its pixel depth (bpp). In particular, when I load a grayscale (8 bpp) image that I want to use as alpha (glTexImage() with GL_ALPHA), it converts it to 16 bpp (presumably 5_6_5). While I do have a plan B (actually, I'm probably on plan 'E' by now, this is really becoming annoying) I would really like to discover an easy way to do this using what is readily available in the API. So far, I'm using BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(). While I'm at it. I'm doing this from a native environment via JNI (passing the buffer in from C, and a new buffer back to C from Java). Any portable solution in C/C++ would be preferable, but I don't want to introduce anything that might break in future versions of Android, etc.

  • Images not indexed by google since moving to cdn

    - by dfunkydog
Last week I moved all the images on coffeeandvanilla.com to a cdn( maxcdn.coffeeandvanilla.com ). The problem I'm having is that although the sitemap—generated by yoast wordpress seo plugin—points images to the correct location, google only indexes[sic] images from the category and page site maps but 0 images from the posts sitemap( see screenshot https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4635252/sitemap.png ) This website has been doing quite well with google image-search before the change, visits from google image search have dropped from ~200/day to 11 yesterday Here is an example entry from the generated posts.xml sitemap http://pastebin.com/vcMRf9VW Can anyone suggest where the problem lies? Why have I lost all my google image juice? Should I just wait some more, how long before really worrying?

  • How do you get the total asset size (or total resource size) in an Android game?

    - by tom_mai78101
In an Android Java project, there are two folders, asset and res. To me, I usually put some stuffs, like PNG files, sound files, etc. in either one of the two folder. When resources are increasingly becoming more and more in those folders, the time it takes to load them will increase. Therefore, a loading screen is a must in these situation. The total size is to be used in a loading screen, so that I can guess the average time it takes to load each resources, from 0 bytes to its individual resource file size. I only know that by adding all individual sizes in a respective order, I will then obtain the total asset or res folder size, simply by adding them up. So, when it comes to getting the total file size from either folder, how do you obtain their individual resource/object sizes, respectively? Thanks in advance.

  • Site Description h2 vs p

  • Best way to slice up a non rectangular image?

    - by Hoff
I have the image below and need to create a rollover for each "piece" or arrow in the circle. Because the image isn't rectangular, it boggles how me how I'm going to do this without having badly overlapping pieces. As you can see from the image below, the slices will overlap each other (quite a bit), which will not be good for the rollover. Does anybody have any ideas as to how to accomplish this without resorting to Flash or HTML5? The majority of our site's users use dinosaur browsers that don't support HTML5. Here's the link to the image: http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3166/wheela.png

  • How do you handle unfound resources?

    - by concept3d
For example your game expects a certain asset to be loaded what is the best way to handle it if the resource isn't found, for example: Texture* grassTexture = LoadTexture("Grass.png");// returns NULL as texture is not found. Mesh* car = LoadMesh("Car.obj");// returns NULL as 3d mesh is not found What if for some reason the resource wasn't found e.g. deleted by user, misspelling while in development ? Should I use Assertions (which is only useful while in development? Exit the game gracefully ? or even thrown an exception and try to handle it? On a separate question, if I used a handle system instead of pointers (which I am already working on) I don't see how this would help me recover from unfound resources, Does a handle system help in situations like this?

  • HTML5 clicking objects in canvas

    - by Dave
I have a function in my JS that gets the user's mouse click on the canvas. Now lets say I have a random shape on my canvas (really its a PNG image which is rectangular) but i don't want to include any alpha space. My issue lies with lets say i click some where and it involves a pixel of one of the images. The first issue is how do you work out the pixel location is an object on the map (and not the grass tiles behind). Secondly if i clicked said image, if each image contains its own unique information how do you process the click to load the correct data. Note I don't use libraries I personally prefer the raw method. Relying on libraries doesn't teach me much I find.

  • How to move an object using X and Y coordinates in JavaScript

    - by Geroy290
I am making a 2d game with JavaScript and HTML5 and am trying to move an image that I have drawn with JavaScript like so: //canvas var c = document.getElementById("gameCanvas"); var ctx = c.getContext("2d"); //baseball var baseball = new Image(); baseball.onload = function() { ctx.drawImage(baseball, 400, 425); }; baseball.src = "baseball2.png"; I'm not sure how I would move it though, I have seen many people seem to just type something like ballX and ballY but I don't understand where the actual x and y definition comes from. Here is my code so far: http://jsfiddle.net/xRfua/ I have a different image source but it is a local source so I couldn't include it. Thanks in a dvance for any help!

• Bridge made out of blocks at an angle

    - by Pozzuh
I'm having a bit of trouble with the math behind my project. I want the player to be able to select 2 points (vectors). With these 2 points a floor should be created. When these points are parallel to the x-axis it's easy, just calculate the amount of blocks needed by a simple division, loop through that amount (in x and y) and keep increasing the coordinate by the size of that block. The trouble starts when the 2 vectors aren't parallel to an axis, for example at an angle of 45 degrees. How do I handle the math behind this? If I wasn't completely clear, I made this awesome drawing in paint to demonstrate what I want to achieve. The 2 red dots would be the player selected locations. (The blocks indeed aren't square.) http://i.imgur.com/pzhFMEs.png.

  • Highlight polygon and tint rest of map using Google Maps

    - by Haes
Hi, I'd like to display a highlighted polygon using Google Maps. The idea is that the polygon in question would be displayed normally and the rest of the map should be darkened a little bit. Here's an example image what I would like to accomplish with a polygon from Austria: Unfortunately, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Google Maps API's and map stuff in general. So, is this even possible do this with Google Map API's? If yes, with what version (v2, v3)? Would it be easier to do it with other map toolkits, like openlayers? PS: One idea I had, was to build an inverse polygon (in this example, the whole world minus the shape of austria) and then display a black colored overlay with transparency using this inverted polygon. But that seems to be quite complicated to me.

  • What design pattern do you use to support graceful fallback on old platforms?

    - by JoJo
Let's say I need to add a drop shadow behind a box. Some old platforms do not support drop shadows, so I have to fake it by putting an image behind the box. Here's the pseudo code of how I'm currently handling this fallback: if (dropShadowsAreSupported) { box.addDropShadow("black"); } else { box.putImageBehindIt("gaussianBlur.png"); } Is this the right way to handle it? It seems too amateur to me. Is there a better design pattern?

  • What kind of connection this is?

    - by Rohit

The snap-shot of the results window is given below: Screen-shot is at http://s2.postimg.org/3zt058415/image.png ( I can't post images! :/ ) Can somebody explain me the last entry in the results, where I've pointed them with arrows? [1] I don't understand why `canonical' servers are connected with my computer even if I am not currently using anything that I would expect such a connection to exist. [2] Second, I don't see the PID/Program name of the Program which has made this connection. I would at-least expect a PID.
