  • I have a 18MB MySQL table backup. How can I restore such a large SQL file?

    I use a Wordpress plugin called 'Shopp'. It stores product images in the database rather than the filesystem as standard, I didn't think anything of this until now. I have to move server, and so I made a backup, but restoring the backup is proving a horrible task. I need to restore one table called wp_shopp_assets which is 18MB. Any advice is hugely appreciated.     I recently set up a local copy of Wordpress, added some content and created a child theme. Then I moved it to my webserver, changed the config file, changed the "localhost" occurences in my SQL file to my online URL. I also changed my database prefix from what I had locally on all tables and in the config file. Everything works well on the outside. But then as I log-in is get the: You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

  • Why is IE7 rendering these differently?

    I'm totally baffled as to why these 2 sites are rendering differently in IE7, even though the theme powering both is the same, they're both on WordPress 2.9.2... This one is okay: http://htm2wp.com/dev/svn This one has the sidebar appear at the bottom: svnsvadvisors.com/blog Meanwhile, they render the exact same in Chrome and Firefox. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I think I may just be too close to the problem to see it.

    This has to be pretty simple, but I'd like to parse the current URL and execute conditional code depending on whether the user is on the /sitemap/ directory. So for example, if the site is example.com, and if the request is example.com/sitemap/. Then I want to execute conditional code in that case. I'm using wordpress so I'm not sure if there is a built-in function that gets this... A pure PHP solution is fine.

    I'm using wordpress, and I want to add the adsense javascript tags where the Read More tag goes in a blogpost. It's stored as <!--more--> in the database, but when you use the_content() this is automatically changed before I have the chance to use a str_replace() function. I'm looking to place an adsense tag for each post in the single.php page where the teaser ends. Has anyone been able to do this?

  • How to pass multiple PHP variables to a jQuery function?

    I'm working on a Wordpress plugin. I need to pass plugin directories (that can change depending on an individual's installation) to a jquery function. What is the best way of doing this? The version of the plugin that I can to work on had included all the javascript in the PHP file so the functions were parsed along with the rest of the content before being rendered in a browser. I'm looking at AJAX but I think it might be more complicated than I need. I can get away with just two variables in this case (directories, nothing set by the user). As I've read its good practice, I'm trying to keep the js and php separate. When the plugin initializes, it call the js file: //Wordpress calls the .js when the plugin loads wp_enqueue_script( 'wp-backitup-funtions', plugin_dir_url( __FILE__ ) . Should look like this: http://example.org/foo-bar/#comment-570630 But somehow I get a lot of 404 ins my logfiles for such URLs: http://example.org/foo-bar/%23comment-570630 Is there a way to write a .htaccess rewrite rule to fix this? Bonus question: Any idea why this happens and what I can do about it?

  • SQL analytical mash-ups deliver real-time WOW! for big data

    One of the overlooked capabilities of SQL as an analysis engine, because we all just take it for granted, is that you can mix and match analytical features to create some amazing mash-ups. As we move into the exciting world of big data these mash-ups can really deliver those "wow, I never knew that" moments. While Java is an incredibly flexible and powerful framework for managing big data there are some significant challenges in using Java and MapReduce to drive your analysis to create these "wow" discoveries. One of these "wow" moments was demonstrated at this year's OpenWorld during Andy Mendelsohn's general keynote session.  Here is the scenario - we are looking for fraudulent activities in our big data stream and in this case we identifying potentially fraudulent activities by looking for specific patterns. We using geospatial tagging of each transaction so we can create a real-time fraud-map for our business users. Where we start to move towards a "wow" moment is to extend this basic use of spatial and pattern matching, as shown in the above dashboard screen, to incorporate spatial analytics within the SQL pattern matching clause. This will allow us to compute the distance between transactions. Apologies for the quality of this screenshot….hopefully below you see where we have extended our SQL pattern matching clause to use location of each transaction and to calculate the distance between each transaction: This allows us to compare the time of the last transaction with the time of the current transaction and see if the distance between the two points is possible given the time frame. Obviously if I buy something in Florida from my favourite bike store (may be a new carbon saddle for my Trek) and then 5 minutes later the system sees my credit card details being used in Arizona there is high probability that this transaction in Arizona is actually fraudulent (I am fast on my Trek but not that fast!) and we can flag this up in real-time on our dashboard: In this post I have used the term "real-time" a couple of times and this is an important point and one of the key reasons why SQL really is the only language to use if you want to analyse  big data. One of the most important questions that comes up in every big data project is: how do we do analysis? Many enlightened customers are now realising that using Java-MapReduce to deliver analysis does not result in "wow" moments. These "wow" moments only come with SQL because it is offers a much richer environment, it is simpler to use and it is faster - which makes it possible to deliver real-time "Wow!".   • Wordpress & Django -- One domain, two servers. Possible?

    My question is about hosting Django and Wordpress under one domain, but two physical machines (actually, they are VMs but same diff). Let's say I have a Django webapp at example.com. I'd like to start a Wordpress blog about my webapp, so any blog page rank mojo flows back to my webapp, I'd like the blog address t be example.com/blog. My understanding is blog.example.com would not transfer said page rank mojo. Because I'm worried about Wordpress security flaws compromising my Django webapp, I want to host Django and Wordpress on two physically separate machines. Given all that, is it possible using re-write rules or a reverse proxy server to do this? I know the easy way is to make my Wordpress blog a subdomain, but I really don't want to do that. Has anyone done this in the past, is it stable? If I need a third server to be a dedicated reverse proxy, that's totally fine. Thanks!

  • How can I make a boring project (another WordPress site) interesting?

    WordPress is my example, but the question can be generalized to any technology that is not particularly interesting. To me, WordPress takes away the intellectually gratifying pieces of coding. I would rather write a new version of WordPress than write a WordPress theme and glue together some plugins. I am using WP because my company dictates the platform for some of our clients (I do not disagree with the choice from a business perspective, WP is quick and cheap to implement). My question is, how can I make my next WordPress project interesting? I want to advance my understanding of the fundamentals of programming (aka data structures, algorithms, and caching) but do not see how I can achieve this when coding another WP site. I have a fairly tight understanding of front-end technologies and believe I have made WP do things it was never intended to do. Examples are here and here. Solving front-end related problems is not as interesting as coding a full stack application. Any advice will help.
