  • interface abstract in php real world scenario

    The goal is to learn whether to use abstract or interface or both... I'm designing a program which allows a user to de-duplicate all images but in the process rather then I just build classes I'd like to build a set of libraries that will allow me to re-use the code for other possible future purposes. In doing so I would like to learn interface vs abstract and was hoping someone could give me input into using either. Here is what the current program will do: recursive scan directory for all files determine file type is image type compare md5 checksum against all other files found and only keep the ones which are not duplicates Store total duplicates found at the end and display size taken up Copy files that are not duplicates into folder by date example Year, Month folder with filename is file creation date. While I could just create a bunch of classes I'd like to start learning more on interfaces and abstraction in php. So if I take the scan directory class as the first example I have several methods... ScanForFiles($path) FindMD5Checksum() FindAllImageTypes() getFileList() The scanForFiles could be public to allow anyone to access it and it stores in an object the entire directory list of files found and many details about them. example extension, size, filename, path, etc... The FindMD5Checksum runs against the fileList object created from scanForFiles and adds the md5 if needed. The FindAllImageTypes runs against the fileList object as well and adds if they are image types. The findmd5checksum and findallimagetypes are optionally run methods because the user might not intend to run these all the time or at all. The getFileList returns the fileList object itself. While I have a working copy I've revamped it a few times trying to figure out whether I need to go with an interface or abstract or both. I'd like to know how an expert OO developer would design it and why?

  • Get real height of div plus css generated content (if possible)

    I'm trying to use javascript to give three divs a negative top position equal to their height. I've got it working, sort of (thanks to help from here!) but instead of calculating the height of each div and calculating the top position accordingly, each div is being assigned a negative top position of -367px: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //Get height of footer popup var pHeight = $('footer ul li > ul').outerHeight(); //Calculate new top position based on footer popup height var nHeight = pHeight + "px"; $('footer ul li > ul').css({ //Change top position to equal height of footer popup 'top' : "-" + nHeight }); }); </script> I've tried this using .height, .outerheight, and even .getheight which someone mentioned on the Jquery documentation for .height. I also tried using an each statement, though it didn't seem to work; I may have written it incorrectly. In addition (if possible), I'd like the negative position to take into account the height of a content being generated using the css :after psuedo-property, though I can always manually add that in to the calculation if javascript has no way to access that. EDIT: Added a test page link.   • php script gets two ajax requests, only returns one?

    I'll start from the beginning. I'm building a wordpress plugin that does double duty, in that it can be inserted in to a post via a shortcode, or added as a sidebar widget. All it does is output some js to make jquery.post requests to a local php file. The local php file makes a request to a webservice for some data. (I had to do it this way instead of directly querying the web service with jquery.ajax because the url contains a license key that would be public if put in the js). Anyway, When I am viewing a page in the wordpress blog that has both the sidebar widget and the plugin output via shortcode only one of the requests work. I mean it works in that it gets a response back from the php script. Once the page is loaded they both work normally when manually told to. Webpage view - send 2 post requests to my php script - both elements should be filed in, but only one is. I'm guessing it is some sort of race condition but that doesn't make ANY sense. I'm new to all this, any ideas? EDIT: I've come up with a sub-optimal solution. I have my widget detect if the plugin is also being used on the page, and if so it waits for 3 seconds before performing the request. But I have a feeling this same thing is going to happen if multiple clients perform a page request at the same time that triggers one of the requests to my php script, because I believe the problem is in the php script, which is scary.

  • Is it possible to use theme colors in Windows Forms apps?

    I normally make use of System Colors whenever possible when designing Windows Forms applications just so that it'll fit in with the user's preferences. But is it possible to use Theme Colors? I realize that this limits you in several ways (must be running Windows that supports it and has the Themes service running), so I would certainly like it if it could fall back on some other default, but since I'm fairly sure 99% of my users will have it available, I'd like to make use of it if possible. Specifically, for newer Windows versions (Vista and 7), things like hyperlinks have a softer more pastel-ish blue. The old System Colors do not define anything for links and the like, and in general are much more limited (coming from the 95 days) in choices and variety. Though WPF probably has better support, I'm not at liberty to use it. If some third party utility, assembly, or the like is necessary, it would also need to be free to use. I don't need anything that fancy, but in a perfect world I would be able to do something like this: linkLabel1.LinkColor = System.Drawing.ThemeColors.Hyperlink; Am I stuck just using the default Blue (0,0,255) and having them look out of place in Vista and above? I'll even settle for ugly p/invoke interop methods if need be...

    Hi guys, searching for this has yielded no resuts.. i have a middle page that has an iframe and all the pages open in that iframe...i have to implement a chat system just like in Google and so to ensure that the chat windows did not close whwn the page would postback i am opening all pages in iframe.... this is a social networking site and user can have themes which have background images per theme now when i visit a friends profile the backgrounf image of the middle page should change... i have this code to find parent of iframe and change background image $(document).ready(function(){ var theme=document.getElementById("ctl00_decideFooterH").value; var t= parent.document.getElementsByTagName("body"); if(theme=='basicTheme'){ t[0].className="basic"; } else if(theme=='Tranquility') { t[0].className="Tranquility"; } else if(theme=='AbstractPink') { t[0].className="abstractPink"; } }); and this code is the master page that all child pages that would open in iframe would access..the trouble is that there is a lag between the theme application on server side(which happens at PreInit) and the background image change which is done by this document.ready that gets executed after the iframe has loaded.. so essentially i need a javascript function that would either execute parallel to PreInit or some other logic....so guys plz help its urgent

  • Can I modify the way Windows draws the Aero UI?

    Windows 7 with Aero Glass basically looks quite nice I think. But it has some major drawbacks regarding readability: I cannot easily tell whether a window is currently active or not. I've been tweaking the colours and transparency levels a lot recently but the only safe indicator is the close button: it's red when the window is active, it's colourless otherwise. Then there's the window title text. It is always painted black, on however dark a background. Again, regardless of whether the window is active or not. I've seen WindowBlinds and the tons of available themes you can use with it. Browsing through the most popular or highest rated in several categories I was really scared. I don't want to face Terminator every day, feel like in the Jungle or be fooled that I had an Apple computer which I do not. All I want to change is to make a greater colour difference between active and inactive windows and to invert the window title text colour for dark backgrounds. (Including that visibility hack of a spray brush background.) Is there some Windows API to alter the way Windows draws its windows or does it take the years of private research from Stardock to hook into that? I mean they say it's approved by Microsoft, so I assume there's some official documentation for that, I just couldn't find any.

    I have multiple forms that are dynamically created with different input names and id's. The only thing unique they will have is the inner HTML of the label. Is it possible to select the input via the label inner HTML with jQuery?   • mySQL ORDER BY ASC works, DESC does not...

    I've "integrated" SMF into Wordpress by querying the forum for a list of the most recent videos from a specific forum board and displaying them on the Wordpress homepage. However when I add the ORDER BY clause, the query (which I tested on other parts of the same page successfully), breaks. To add to the mix, I am using the Auto Embed plugin to allow the videos to be played on the homepage, as well as using a jCarousel feature to rotate them. People were kind enough to help me here last time with the regexp to filter the video urls, I'm hoping for the same luck this time!   • PHP not obeying my defined ETags

    What I'm doing I'm pulling an image from the database and sending it to the browser with all the proper headers - the image displays fine. I also send an ETag header, using the SHA1 of the image's content as the tag. The images are getting called semi regularly, so caching is a bit of an issue (won't kill the site, but nice to have). The Problem $_SERVER['HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH'] is not available to me. As far as I can tell, this is because of PHP's "disobey the cache controls" life style. I can't mess with the session cache limiter, because I don't have access. But, even if I did have access, I wouldn't want to touch it: 99% of the site is under WordPress. The Environment PHP 4 (don't ask) Apache 2.2 WordPress The images live in the database (largeblog), which I can't change. Any guidance, tip/tricks, etc. would be helpful. I don't have much room to change the environmental/structural stuff. Cheers.

  • Is there a tool for managing redundant pages across a website?

    I am in charge of constructing a website with a '2-dimensional' site map, as explained later. I am looking for (preferably a Wordpress plugin, as the site is built in Wordpress already) that would make managing thousands of pages a lot easier. To explain further, let me iterate my situation. I am building a website for a construction company, and they have several key cities and several key services. Now, they want a parent page for each service, and another unique page for the child sub-service, and finaly, a grandchild page for the city they are performing the service in. For example, if they were doing Concrete Construction in Los Angeles, the URL would look like: /concrete/construction/los-angeles The content on /los-angeles would be the same as on /malibu, or /burbank. However, there would be a different set of content for /concrete/design/los-angeles, but the entire page content (sans a few variables with city names) would be the same. Is there a way to manage or automate 'matrixing' this information on the site? I am looking for a tool that would allow me to easily add a 'city' with the same content across all grandchildren, per the child's content requirements. All of the grandchildren pages will have redundant content across them. Should something like this not exist, how difficult would it be to create, as a freelance side project? I need a tool like this, because I am approaching about ~500 cities and 50 services (Concrete Construction, Concrete Design, Concrete Engineering, etc)

  • Why might my PHP log file not entirely be text?

    I'm trying to debug a plugin-bloated Wordpress installation; so I've added a very simple homebrew logger that records all the callbacks, which are basically listed in a single, ultimately 250+ row multidimensional array in Wordpress (I can't use print_r() because I need to catch them right before they are called). My logger line is $logger->log("\t" . $callback . "\n"); The logger produces a dandy text file in normal situations, but at two points during this particular task it is adding something which causes my log file to no longer be encoded properly. Gedit (I'm on Ubuntu) won't open the file, claiming to not understand the encoding. In vim, the culprit corrupt callback (which I could not find in the debugger, looking at the array) is about in the middle and printed as ^@lambda_546 and at the end of file there's this cute guy ^M. The ^M and ^@ are blue in my vim, which has no color theme set for .txt files. I don't know what it means. I tried adding an is_string($callback) condition, but I get the same results. Any ideas?

    I am going nuts over wordpress and artisteer. I am trying something that used to be pretty straightforward - turning on and off the display of date and post category for my posts on my blog page. I find this in content.php global $post; theme_post_wrapper( array( 'id' => theme_get_post_id(), 'class' => theme_get_post_class(), 'title' => theme_get_meta_option($post->ID, 'theme_show_page_title') ? get_the_title() : '', 'heading' => theme_get_option('theme_single_article_title_tag'), 'before' => theme_get_metadata_icons('date', 'header'), 'content' => theme_get_content() ) ); And the instruction says that all you got to do is insert or remove 'date' in the 'before' line. I've done it back and forth with my content files and nothing changes on the output. I can't find the actual code that prints it all, wordpress used to be so simple before everything was dug down 10 levels deep and you now have to look through millions of different functions to find the simplest things... As you can probably tell, I usually don't work with WP =) But this is on my table now and I haven't stayed up to date with WP for a couple of years... Any input as to where I can find the variables is appreciated... I had expected to at some point find 'posted at '.echo($date).' in category '.echo($category) or something at least remotely similar...

  • PHP download page: file_exists() returns true, but browser returns 'page not found'

    I'm using PHP for a file download page. Here's a snippet of the problem code: if (file_exists($attachment_location)) { header($_SERVER["SERVER_PROTOCOL"] . " 200 OK"); header("Cache-Control: public"); // needed for i.e. header("Content-Type: application/zip"); header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: Binary"); header("Content-Length:".filesize($attachment_location)); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=file.zip"); readfile($attachment_location); die("Hooray"); } else { die("Error: File not found."); } This code works absolutely fine when testing locally, but after deploying to the live server the browser returns a 'Page not found' error. I thought it might be an .htaccess issue, but all .htaccess files on the live server are identical to their local counterparts. My next guess would be the live server's PHP configuration, but I have no idea what PHP setting might cause this behaviour. The file_exists() function always returns true - I've checked this on the live server and it's always correctly picking up the file, its size etc., so it does have a handle on the file. It just won't perform the download! The main site is a Wordpress site, but this code isn't part of a Wordpress page - it's in a standalone directory within the site root. UPDATE: is_file() and is_readable() are both returning true for the file, so that's not the problem. The specific line that is causing the problem is: readfile($attachment_location) Everything up until that point is super happy.

    I recently made this wordpress blog, where you can sign up a team for an event, when clicking a link under the event post. This link takes you to a sign-up form on another php-page. All I need now is to somehow send the specific event-post-title along to the sign-page, so that the following form-submit action will contain that title aswell. But since I'm not very good at php it seems like a mystery, altho I bet it's very simple!   • Building a survey to put in a WordPress website using Python/Django

    So I've been given a task to build a survey to get data regarding time slot preferences of prospective students for a particular course. I know there are really quick solutions to this like Google Forms, SurveyMonkey, but since it's not unusually hard, I want to implement the survey myself in a totally new language as an opportunity to get started with it and also be able to customize and provide dynamic info to the users who are voting. Although I have done some stuff in PHP, C++, javascript, etc, I'm pretty new to Python+Django framework but it's something I've been meaning to get into since a long time ago. Initially, what I want is to make a grid with the days of the week as columns and time-durations as rows. In each cell I want to provide users a way to choose how strong (high/medium/low) their preference for this particular day+time is. I also want to show how many "votes" have already been cast for this particular preference because this will influence a lot in their decisions and as a result make this process easier when we are going to define the classes. I'll probably store the data in MySQL. Could anyone point me to some really good Python+Django tutorials for my particular purpose?     Hello, For one of our project, we need to pull huge real time stock data from 4 remote servers across two countries. The trivial process here, check the sources for a regular interval and save the update to database. But as these are real time stock data of more than 1000 companies, I have to pull every second, which isn't good in case of memory, bandwidth I think. Please give me suggestion on which technology/platform [We are flexible here. PHP, Python, Java, PERL - anyone of them will be OK for us] we should choose, it can be achieved easily and with better performance.

    I am trying to use timthumb in one of my projects and it doesn't seem to be working and i searched all over and couldn't get the issue sorted.
