• Echoing a pseudo column value after a COUNT

  Hi Gang... Please don't beat me if this is elementary. I searched and found disjointed stuff relating to pseudo columns. Nothing spot on about what I need. Anyway... I have a table with some rows. Each record has a unique ID, an ID that relates to another entity and finally a comment that relates to that last entity. So, I want to COUNT these rows to basically find what entity has the most comments. Instead of me explaining the query, I'll print it SELECT entity_id, COUNT(*) AS amount FROM comments GROUP BY entity_id ORDER BY amount DESC The query does just what I want, but I want to echo the values from that pseudo column, 'amount' Can it be done, or should I use another method like mysql_num_rows? • How do I display a field's hidden characters in the result of a query in Oracle?

  I have two rows that have a varchar column that are different according to a Java .equals(). I can't easily change or debug the Java code that's running against this particular database but I do have access to do queries directly against the database using SQLDeveloper. The fields look the same to me (they are street addresses with two lines separated by some new line or carriage feed/new line combo). Is there a way to see all of the hidden characters as the result of a query?I'd like to avoid having to use the ascii() function with substr() on each of the rows to figure out which hidden character is different. I'd also accept some query that shows me which character is the first difference between the two fields.

• jquery iterating through newly created elements

  Hi All, I am trying to add new rows in my table, and save them into DB. First, I use .append() to append rows on the table: $("#tablename").append("<tr id='newRow'><td>newly added row</td></tr>"); The appending function works fine. My page displays the correct result. However, I am unable to select them with $("#newRow").each(function () { alert "it never reaches here!"; }); I am guessing it is because the elements are added after the DOM is loaded. Can anyone please tell me how I can iterate through all my newly added elements? Thank you.

• WxPython multiple grid instances

  Does anybody know how I can get multiple instances of the same grid to display on one frame? Whenever I create more than 1 instance of the same object, the display of the original grid widget completely collapses and I'm left unable to do anything with it. • speed up the speed of a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!

• I DISTINCTly hate MySQL (help building a query)

  This is staight forward I believe: I have a table with 30,000 rows. When I SELECT DISTINCT 'location' FROM myTable it returns 21,000 rows, about what I'd expect, but it only returns that one column. What I want is to move those to a new table, but the whole row for each match. My best guess is something like SELECT * from (SELECT DISTINCT 'location' FROM myTable) or something like that, but it says I have a vague syntax error. Is there a good way to grab the rest of each DISTINCT row and move it to a new table all in one go?

In this code below, why is it not possible to do this in one line? public IEnumerable<T> GetAll<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter) { IEnumerable<T> allCustomers = this.GetAll<T>(); IEnumerable<T> result = allCustomers.Where(filter.Compile()); return result; } Won't this result in 2 SQL statements: one without a where clause that retrieves all rows, and one with a where clause that only retrieves the rows that match the predicate? • Safari Frames Invisible Scrollbar

  I'm working on a website that uses not just frames, but frames within frames (ew, I know, but I don't get to choose). It actually works OK most of the time, but I'm running into a problem with some of the frames within frames in Safari (only). Some of the two-deep frames render in Safari with a small space on the right-hand side of the frame - I think it's just the ones with scroll set to "no", but fiddling with the scroll settings hasn't fixed it yet. It basically looks like there should be a scroll bar there, but there isn't. I've been working on this awhile and tried a lot of things: changing the heights of the rows, changing the scroll settings, adding a colls='100%' tag, changing the heights of the contents of the frames, as well as checking to make sure widths are set to 100% throughout. Nothing's fixed it so far. Does any one know what's happening here? • Multiplying two matrices from two text files with unknown dimensions

  This is my first post here. I've been working on this c++ question for a while now and have gotten nowhere. Maybe you guys can give me some hints to get me started. My program has to read two .txt files each containing one matrix. Then it has to multiply them and output it to another .txt file. My confusion here though is how the .txt files are setup and how to get the dimensions. Here is an example of matrix 1.txt. #ivalue #jvalue value 1 1 1.0 2 2 1 The dimension of the matrix is 2x2. 1.0 0 0 1 Before I can start multiplying these matrices I need to get the i and j value from the text file. But now I am running into another problem. In matrix B it is setup like: #ivalue #jvalue Value 1 1 0.1 1 2 0.2 2 1 0.3 2 2 0.4 I need to let the program know that it needs to go down 4 lines, maybe even more (The matrices dimensions are unknown. My matrix B example is a 2x2, but it could be a 20x20). I have a while(!file.eof()) loop my program to let it loop until the end of file. • Losing DateTimeOffset precision when using C#

  I have a SQL Server table with a CreatedDate field of type DateTimeOffset(2). A sample value which is in the table is 2010-03-01 15:18:58.57 -05:00 As an example, from within C# I retrieve this value like so: var cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT CreatedDate FROM Entities WHERE EntityID = 2", cn); var da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable dt =new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); And I look at the value: MessageBox.Show(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); The result is 2010-03-01 15:18:58 -05:00, which is missing the .57 that is stored in the database. If I look at dt.Rows[0][0] in the Watch window, I also do not see the .57, so it appears it has been truncated. Can someone shed some light on this? I need to use the date to match up with other records in the database and the .57 is needed. Thanks! Darvis

TABLE foldersA ( ID title ) TABLE foldersB ( ID title ) TABLE records ( ID folderID folderType title ) folderID in table "records" can point to ID in either "foldersA" or "foldersB" depending on the value of folderType. (0 or 1). I am wondering: Is there a way to create a CASCADE rule such that the appropriate rows in table records are automatically deleted when a row in either foldersA or folderB is deleted? Or in this situation, am I forced to have to delete the rows in table "records" programatically? Thanks for you help!

  Hello, Currently I have a a text file with data at the first row is formatted as follow: time;wave height 1;wave height 2;....... I have column until wave height 19 and rows total 4000 rows. Data in the first column is time in second. From 2nd column onwards, it is wave height elevation which is in meter. I would like to plot the follow: ![alt text][1] on the x axis is time. the left hand side is wave height in m and on the right hand side is the distance between each measurment in a model. inside the graph there are 4 plots, each plot is repersent waveight 1, wave height 2etc at a defined distance related to the right hand side y asix. • Optimizing MySQL statement with lot of count(row) an sum(row+row2)...

  I need to use InnoDB storage engine on a table with about 1mil or so records in it at any given time. It has records being inserted to it at a very fast rate, which are then dropped within a few days, maybe a week. The ping table has about a million rows, whereas the website table only about 10,000. My statement is this: select url from website ws, ping pi where ws.idproxy = pi.idproxy and pi.entrytime > curdate() - 3 and contentping+tcpping is not null group by url having sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) < 500 and count(*) > 3 and count(errortype)/count(*) < .15 order by sum(contentping+tcpping)/(count(*)-count(errortype)) asc; I added an index on entrytime, yet no dice. Can anyone throw me a bone as to what I should consider to look into for basic optimization of this query. The result set is only like 200 rows, so I'm not getting killed there.

• PostGres - run a query in batches?

  Is it possible to loop through a query so that if (for example) 500,000 rows are found, it'll return results for the first 10,000 and then rerun the query again? So, what I want to do is run a query and build an array, like this: $result = pg_query("SELECT * FROM myTable"); $i = 0; while($row = pg_fetch_array($result) ) { $myArray[$i]['id'] = $row['id']; $myArray[$i]['name'] = $row['name']; $i++; } But, I know that there will be several hundred thousand rows, so I wanted to do it in batches of like 10,000... 1- 9,999 and then 10,000 - 10,999 etc... The reason why is because I keep getting this error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3 bytes) Which, incidentally, I don't understand how 3 bytes could exhaust 512M... So, if that's something that I can just change, that'd be great, although, still might be better to do this in batches?

• How to make a table view which can be scrolled for ever?

  I have a set of 100 rows, pretty similar to values which can be selected in a picker. When the user scrolls the table, I want the rows to be appended like an forever-ongoing assembly-belt. So when the user scrolls down and reaches the row 100, and scrolls even further, the table view will show again row 1, and so on. Reverse direction same thing. My thoughts: don't display scroll indicators (they would make not much sense, probably) what value to return in the numberOfRows delegate method? This infinity constant? in cellForRowAtIndexPath: simply wrap the index around when it exceeds bounds?

  Hi There everyone... looking for some advice on what type of view can be used to build a screen with the following elements: 2 labels followed by 2 buttons. Then a small table view with 3 rows. Should a UIView be used or a UITableView? I've attempted using a UITableView - however I couldn't add the labels or buttons. So I've now built the view using a UIView. I added the labels and buttons and then a UITableView from the library. However I have no idea how to populate the rows in the table? Any ideas? Regards, Fiona

• How to remove htmlentities() values from the database?

  Long before I knew anything - not that I know much even now - I desgined a web app in php which inserted data in my mysql database after running the values through htmlentities(). I eventually came to my senses and removed this step and stuck it in the output rather than input and went on my merry way. However I've since had to revisit some of this old data and unfortunately I have an issue, when it's displayed on the screen I'm getting values displayed which are effectively htmlentitied twice. So, is there a mysql or phpmyadmin way of changing all the older, affected rows back into their relevant characters or will I have to write a script to read each row, decode and update all 17 million rows in 12 tables?

  I would like to query my table for how many rows contain one or more instances of <CR><LF><LF>. I can't figure out the correct syntax. I would try LIKE '%<CR><LF><LF>%', but I don't know how to specify these special characters. I did try where mydata REGEXP '%[.CR.][.LF.][.LF.]%', and that didn't get a syntax error but neither did it return any rows. So, I realized I need a way to insert the test data as well! Note: I am using mysql 5.0.

  Hi, In order to do some statistical analysis I need to extract values in a column of an Excel sheet. I have been using the Apache POI package to read from Excel files, and it works fine when one needs to iterate over rows. However I couldn't find anything about getting columns neither in the API (link text) nor through google searching. As I need to get max and min values of different columns and generate random numbers using these values, so without picking up individual columns, the only other option is to iterate over rows and columns to get the values and compare one by one, which doesn't sound all that time-efficient. Any ideas on how to tackle this problem? Thanks,

  when I navigate through the Oracle application with my application user and the right responsibility, I see the data. I use the "record history" menu to see which table/view is used by application. So, I got PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V. When I'm connected with apps user in a sqlplus session, SELECT * FROM PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V gives me 0 rows. I guess that there's something is misconfigurated with the apps but what ? How may I view the rows of PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V using apps user in a sqlplus session ? How may I see the data in the Oracle view like I see it through the application ?

  Hey, What SQL query would I have to use if I want to get the results from a table 'messages' but exclude rows that have the value in 'messages_view' where field messages.message=messages_view.id AND messages.deleted=1 AND messages_view.user=$somephpvariable In more laymen terms, I have a messages table with each message denoted by an 'id' as well as a messages_view table connected with a 'message' field. I want to get the rows in message that are not deleted (comes from messages_view) for a specific 'user'. 'deleted'=1 when the message is deleted. • ssrs: one static row matrix, multiple columns will not filter out nulls

  Using a ssrs 2005 matrix client side. I want to list the multiple addresses of one person, hence one row, multiple columns. The Column field is =Fields!StreetName.Value. The data details field is =First(Fields!StreetPrefix.Value) & " " & First(Fields!StreetName.Value). The datasource has a row for each address; however, some rows will have nulls since the datasource is composed of outer joins. The column grouping works, but the first column is always empty, (first 2 rows of datasource are null) addresses appear only after the empty column. I want to filter out nulls on the matrix, but its like the filter is ignored. I have also tried having the dataset return an empty string for a null streetname and setting the filter to =Fields!StreetName.Value != ="" but no difference. What am I missing?
