• How do I get a TextBox to only accept numeric input in WPF?

  I'm looking to accept digits and the decimal point, but no sign. I've looked at samples using the NumericUpDown control for WinForms, and this sample of a NumericUpDown custom control from Microsoft. But so far it seems like NumericUpDown (supported by WPF or not) is not going to provide the functionality that I want. The way my app is designed, nobody in their right mind is going to want to mess with the arrows. They don't make any practical sense, in the context of my app. So I'm looking for a simple way to make a standard WPF TextBox accept only the characters that I want. Is this possible? • How to check a SQL database table to see if a record exists

  I have a SQL database that creates a record for every document uploaded by the user to the server. I want to check this table before a user uploads a document to ensure they don't upload a file with name that already exists. I know how to make the connection and make the SqlCommand to query the table for an existing record. But I don't know how to check the record count from the sqlCommand I made. Does that make sense? • Google Maps, Ruby on Rails, Zoom level with one marker

  I am adding google maps support with apneadiving / Google-Maps-for-Rails (thanks awesome gem) I am finding one slight glitch, however, which very likely is my fault. auto_zoom works great when there are multiple markers. However, when there is only one marker it is zoomed in to the max level which is not pretty. "zoom" will only work when auto_zoom is false, so that's not what I want. So therefore you could use "maxZoom" but now users cannot zoom in manually beyond that point which is not what I want. Is there a way around this? Is my explanation making sense? Is this a limitation of Google Maps API? Thanks...

• merge sort recursion tree height

  Hello! I am learning about recursion tree's and trying to figure out how the height of the tree is log b of n where n = 2 and one has 10 elements as input size. I am working with Merge sort. The number of times the split is done is the height of the tree as far as I understood, and the number of levels in the tree is height + 1. But if you take (for merge sort) log2 of 10 you get 1, where if you draw the tree you get at least 2 times that the recursion occurs. Where have I gone wrong? (I hope I am making sense here) NOTE: I am doing a self study, this is not homework!

  Hi, what would be the xpath for the following: Find all child nodes with a specific attibute value but starting from a node with a specific attribute value. This is kind of related to a question I posted earlier about parsing and rdf xml file - I thought I had solved it but not quite yet. For example I am trying to parse and grab all of the rdf:about attribute values. I have this working fine. I need to add the following condition though - parsing needs to start after a specific rdf:about value is found. I am working in php and and using DomDocument and am using the following xpath query: $xpath-query('//@rdf:about') - it is finding all rdf:about attributes fine. I need to extend this to only find thos attributes that come after the node who rdf:about attribute is equal to something. Hope this makes sense.

• Git: delete files in a branch, what happens when a merge takes place

  I'm relatively new to source control (at least complex source control). If I'm developing a set of features in a branch, and I happen to delete some cruft out of the source tree in this branch, what happens when I merge? Are the files properly deleted in the trunk/master? Is there anything I should avoid doing that is typically problematic when developing in a branch? This is a 2-3 developer system, so we're not talking about massive changes to source. I'm told you should pull from the trunk often to avoid tangled manual merge situations, and this makes sense. • WPF datagrid bind to previous row's cell

  Hi, I have a datagrid and one of the columns is going to be a checkbox column. To give the background, the checkbox is going to turn something on / off and each row in the datagrid is going to be for a differernt time (in time order, ascending). Is it possible for one row's checkbox to be bound to the state of the previous row? That way if somebody turns off at 10am it will continue to be turned off until such a time that it is turned on again. Hope that makes sense, any help would be great. Sure this sounds like something that should be do-able with databindings just not sure on the way to do it! Thanks.

In another example, I've seen another form: http = new Http http(/* argument here */) Is this valid Scala? I guess it must be, because the author is a Scala expert. But it makes no sense to me. Actions are usually performed by invoking methods on objects, whether explicitly as object.doSomething() or implicitly as object = something (using the apply() method underneath the syntactic sugar). All I can think of is that a constructor is being used to do something in addition to constructing an object. In other words, it is having side effects, such as in this case going off and doing something on the web.

  hey all, im really new to ASP.Net and still havnt got my head round most of the concepts, im really having problems with variable, when creating a desktop application, any variable created in code for example int n = 10; this variable will be there until the program is running right. but in asp iv created variables which are supposed to last until the user gets of that page, so for example say i have a page which takes the users value ( call this variable n say the user type in 10) and every time the user presses the next button the code add 10 to this value. so the first time the user presses the next button n= n + 10; what i have found is no matter how many times i press the next button n will always equal 20, because the previous value is not saved !! these values are populated the first time the user enters that page, once the user clicks the next button the content of these values disappear! how can stop this from happening ?? hope this makes sense !! thanks

• Virtual network interface in Mac OS X

  I know that you can make a virtual network interface in Windows (see here), and in Linux it is also pretty easy with ip-aliases, but does something similar exist for Mac OS X? I've been looking for loopback adapters, virtual interfaces and couldn't find a good solution. You can create a new interface in the networking panel, based on an existing interface, but it will not act as a real fully functional interface (if the original interface is inactive, then the derived one is also inactive). This scenario is needed when working in a completely disconnected situation. Even then, it makes sense to have networking capabilities when running servers in a VMWare installation. Those virtual machines can be reached by their IP address, but not by their DNS name, even if I run a DNS server in one of those virtual machines. By configuring an interface to use the virtual DNS server, I thought I could test some DNS scenario's. Unfortunately, no interface is resolving DNS names if none of them are inactive...

• There's a way to avoid AppleStore?

  Hi, i need to develop an iPhone application that is a Client of serverside application. This application is not for customer but for sell agents. I know that if i try to send to Apple to put on Apple Store they reject it because the application have no sense for Apple Store. The company is small so i can't use the Enterprise program. The only way i can use now is to use Ad Hoc mode but in this case if i made an update you need iTunes and i must find a way to avoid this. Thanks for the help.

• What is the bit size of long on 64-bit Windows?

  Not to long ago someone told me that long are not 64 bits on 64 bit machines and i should always use int. This did not make sense to me. I seen docs (such as the one on apples official site) say that long are indeed 64 bits when compiling for a 64bit CPU. I looked up what it was on windows and found Windows: long and int remain 32-bit in length, and special new data types are defined for 64-bit integers. from http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/developer/asmo-na/eng/197664.htm?page=2 What should i use? should i define something like uw, sw ((un)signed width) as a long if not on windows. Otherwise do a check on the target CPU bitsize?

• FxCop CA2000 Warning in UserControls

  Running FxCop on a WebProject that contains a UserControl will result in a CA2000 Warning (Call System.IDisposable.Dispose on object) for every ServerControl (Label, TextBox,...) in that UserControl. I understand why this would happen. Replacing the 'offending' ServerControls with a PlaceHolder and then adding the Controls in code (Using...End Using) might be a way around that, but it is not always an option.But, if they are not 'kosher' why have ServerControls you can drop in your ascx/aspx in the first place ?Am I missing something ? If, like in my case, you inherit a sizeable collection of fairly complex UserControls, do I now add every 'offending' Control to the GlobalSupperssions file (that's a lot of mind numbing right-clicking) ?I do not want to suppress all CA2000 warnings since it makes perfect sense to fix them, but not in the case of ServerControls in UserControls.

  SourceGear Vault's client app has the ability to background search for changes. This is very useful because at any time I can take a quick peek and see what changes my team members have checked in and that I need to get latest on. This is also helpful for previewing any merges that might be necessary. And on a day to day basis, it helps me get a sense of what parts of the codebase are seeing the most churn. Is there a way to get this same functionality with Team Foundation Server, either with native features or a plugin? I know there is a Compare feature, but it takes way too long to be useful. Unless it could periodically refresh itself like Vault does, but I haven't found a way to do that. Anything new with Visual Studio 2010?

  I'm developing a cms that allows editing everything on the page (generated server-side with a template engine) by just clicking on it — the area turns into input field, textarea or a full-featured tinyMCE editor, Template defines editable elements like "page heading", "copyright footer text", "image", "rich text block" etc. Along with that there's always a flotaing panel with several tabs, some of which contain general settings like page bacground color, font settings etc, but some are context sensitive (e.g., the clicking on "image" editable field triggers to display uploading/cropping/captioning interface in the floating panel). All settings in the panel are either simple inputs or sliders or checkboxes. I'm new to using MVC with javascript, and in fact haven't used it much before. jQuery is used as code library for the project. Should i use JavascriptMVC, SproutCore or anything else? Does any of them allow some kind of sandboxing (within bounds of commmon sense) to allow some javascript code by user-generated skins on my cms? thank you!

  I am working on a Yahoo! App which requires certain external Javascript Frameworks to be loaded and used. Also in the Yahoo! App Best Practices Guide, it is also mentioned that the sources should be externalized, however, externalization isn't working for me. I am using the standard procedure to load the external JS file like the following: <script src="http://www.google.com/js/nxsl.1.js"></script> But the above statement is giving me an error that external sources are not allowed. Is there any way to use external JS files as I don't want to include all of my JS Login inline, it doesn't make sense to me and majorly my code won't be re-usable. Any thoughts ?

• Access 2003 - Embedded ppt slide or Excel Spreadsheet in a form, how do I communicate?

  So if I was to take a an access form, and embed either an excel spreadsheet into it, or a powerpoint slide/pres, how would I reference it in VBA code? So I know I have to set the libraries, name the frame of the OLE object, and use applicable syntax to whatever I want to do, with whatever I stick in the form, however the only things I have ever done with excel and/or powerpoint is automate the opening of a seperate window/application from access, not within the access form....so I am not sure?? if I said its a new Excel.Application, then set xls = to (the ss in the file, and not some file path of another excel file somewhere)? does that make sense?

  I have been loading content with ajax and all works fine. I am quessing that I need to link the relevant files to a-z.php and then load it via ajax. Doesn't this kind of defeat the object of ajax?? That means that I will be loading the js files on the main page and then loading them again when I ajax a-z.php I hope I made some sense.

  Hello, I was wondering what the best way to do a live character count of an edit-text box is in Android. I was looking at this but I couldn't seem to make any sense of it. To describe the problem, I have an EditText and I'm trying to limit the characters to 150. I can do this with an input filter, however I want to show right below the text box the number of characters a user has entered(Almost like stack overflow is doing right now). • .htacces file. Can I block access to a directory without blocking access to the files within it?

  I'm building a website, but I'm not entirely sure what to do with the .htaccess file. Say for example I have a folder called pages which holds all my pages, can i deny access to someone if they type in www.website.com/pages so that they can't see the directory? I've tried putting the .htaccess file in the pages folder with the "deny from all" line and although it denies access, it's also denying access to the actual pages. Is there a way to do this without denying access to see the pages on the website, just denying access to the directory? Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm so confused lol. • Select only items in a specific DIV using HtmlAgilityPack

  I'm trying to use the HtmlAgilityPack to pull all of the links from a page that are contained within a div declared as <div class='content'> However, when I use the code below I simply get ALL links on the entire page. This doesn't really make sense to me since I am calling SelectNodes from the sub-node I selected earlier (which when viewed in the debugger only shows the HTML from that specific div). So, it's like it's going back to the very root node every time I call SelectNodes. The code I use is below: HtmlWeb hw = new HtmlWeb(); HtmlDocument doc = hw.Load(@"http://example.com"); HtmlNode node = doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//div[@class='content']"); foreach(HtmlNode link in node.SelectNodes("//a[@href]")) { Console.WriteLine(link.Value); } Is this the expected behavior? • Comparing ASP.Net Framework to Cakephp, Zend , Ruby on Rails

  I am a PHP developer migrating to C# ASP.Net Framework. As of right now, I am experienced in using Php for developing sites and I use CakePhp and Zend framework as my RAD tools to help me produce better applications. As I move over to ASP.NET, I have this view that C# ASP.Net framework itself is already a RAD tool and is equivalent to using Cakephp, Zend, or even Ruby on Rails. So I really shouldn't have no concerns trying to find a separate library for ASP.NET that will help me produce better applications. To me, in a sense the ASP.NET is already like a MVC cause it seperates the model from the view and the methods are almost like controllers. So as far as having the best tools are concerned, should I be satisfied with just using ASP.NET as my RAD tool.

  Hello Magento boffins. I am using Magento to build an eBooks site. For the release, we plan to have a number of free downloadable books. We were hoping that it would be possible to use the normal Magento 'catalog' functionality to add categories with products underneath. However, since these are free downloadable products, it doesn't really make sense to send users through the checkout when they try to download. Does anyone know of a way to create a free downloadable product which bypasses the checkout altogether? I have noticed that there is a 'free sample' option for downloadable products, but I would prefer not to use this if I can as I plan to use this field for its intended purpose when I add paid products.

  I'm trying to add suggestions to product pages along the lines of : "Customers who purchased this item also purchased x and y". The way the data is compiled right now is a mysql table with 3 rows. PRODUCT | CUSTOMER |QUANTITY Product is the product ID. Customer is the customer ID. Quantity is the number of time that product was bought by that customer. For each product description page, the system needs to figure out which users bought that product, what other products those users bought, in what quantity and then return the 2 products that were bought the most by people who bought the current product. Hopefully this makes sense and someone can point me in the right directions as to what the mysql query should look like. Thanks.
