• How to get Netty websocket client example working

  I'm struggling to get the netty example websocket client working. I've compiled successfully with 4.0.0.Alpha8, but when I try to connect to a server (also a netty example) I get: Exception in thread "main" io.netty.handler.codec.http.websocketx.WebSocketHandshakeException: Invalid handshake response upgrade: websocket at io.netty.handler.codec.http.websocketx.WebSocketClientHandshaker13.finishHandshake(WebSocketClientHandshaker13.java:204) which makes no sense to me whatsoever, given that this piece of code reads: String upgrade = response.getHeader(Names.UPGRADE); if (!Values.WEBSOCKET.equalsIgnoreCase(upgrade)) { throw new WebSocketHandshakeException("Invalid handshake response upgrade: " + response.getHeader(Names.UPGRADE)); } And as the message in the exception demonstrates, the Upgrade header does contain websocket as expected. Any idea what's going on?

  Hello, I was wondering what the best way to do a live character count of an edit-text box is in Android. I was looking at this but I couldn't seem to make any sense of it. To describe the problem, I have an EditText and I'm trying to limit the characters to 150. I can do this with an input filter, however I want to show right below the text box the number of characters a user has entered(Almost like stack overflow is doing right now). If someone could write a small snippet of example code or point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance.

• Javascript regex only matching entire url as typing

  I'm trying to use javascript to find all URLs in a textarea as the person is typing (onkeyup). The problem that I'm having is in finding a regex to match the entire URL, I need it only to match all the URL's in the text area that are complete URLs. All of the existing regex expressions that I find through Google and through my own experiementing seem to match as soon as the user has typed the first part of the pattern. So, for example, if I'm typing and then start to type http://w, all of a sudden, it will match. I need to find a regex that will match and return an array of all the urls that are in the textarea, while also not matching unless the person has completed typing the full URL. Hopefully that makes sense! Thank you!

• How can i query for null values in entity framework?

  I want to execute a query like this var result = from entry in table where entry.something == null select entry; and get an IS NULL generated. Edited: After the first two answers i feel the need to clarify that I'm using Entity Framework and not Linq to SQL. The object.Equals() method does not seem to work in EF. Edit no.2: The above query works as intended. It correctly generates IS NULL. My production code however was var value = null; var result = from entry in table where entry.something == value select entry; and the generated SQL was something = @p; @p = NULL. It seems that EF correctly translates the constant expression but if a variable is involved it treats it just like a normal comparison. Makes sense actually. I'll close this question

  Hello Magento boffins. I am using Magento to build an eBooks site. For the release, we plan to have a number of free downloadable books. We were hoping that it would be possible to use the normal Magento 'catalog' functionality to add categories with products underneath. However, since these are free downloadable products, it doesn't really make sense to send users through the checkout when they try to download. Does anyone know of a way to create a free downloadable product which bypasses the checkout altogether? I have noticed that there is a 'free sample' option for downloadable products, but I would prefer not to use this if I can as I plan to use this field for its intended purpose when I add paid products.

• Select only items in a specific DIV using HtmlAgilityPack

  I'm trying to use the HtmlAgilityPack to pull all of the links from a page that are contained within a div declared as <div class='content'> However, when I use the code below I simply get ALL links on the entire page. This doesn't really make sense to me since I am calling SelectNodes from the sub-node I selected earlier (which when viewed in the debugger only shows the HTML from that specific div). So, it's like it's going back to the very root node every time I call SelectNodes. The code I use is below: HtmlWeb hw = new HtmlWeb(); HtmlDocument doc = hw.Load(@"http://example.com"); HtmlNode node = doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//div[@class='content']"); foreach(HtmlNode link in node.SelectNodes("//a[@href]")) { Console.WriteLine(link.Value); } Is this the expected behavior? • Visual C# 2010 express... displaying console output??

  Hi, I am currently creating a customer application for a local company. I have a datagridview linked to the customers table, and I am trying to link it up so that updates, inserts and deletions are handled correctly. I am very new to c# so I am starting with the basics (like about 2 days ago I knew nothing - I know vb.net, Java and several other languages though..). Anywho from what I understand anything output through Debug.WriteLine should only appear when in debug mode (common sense really) but anything output through Concole.WriteLine should appear whether or not in debug mode. However I have checked the immediate and output windows and nothing is being output when in normal mode. Does anyone have any idea why this is?? Thanks in advance, Richard

• SQL ConnectionString in global.asax overridden by web.config

  This is going to sound very odd, but I have a web.config like this: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=BACKUPDB;..." providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> And a global.asax like this: void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when a new session is started if (Application["con"] == null || Application["con"] == "") { Application["con"] = "Data Source=PRODUCTIONDB;..."; } } And EVERYWHERE in my code, I reference my ConnectionStrings like this: SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(Convert.ToString(HttpContext.Current.Application["con"])); However, I see that everything I do inside this application goes to BACKUP db instead of PRODUCTIONDB. What is going on, how could this happen, and why? It doesn't make any sense to me, and it got me into a lot of trouble. We use LocalSqlServer string for FormsAuthentication.

• Using LaTeX, how can I have a list of references at the end of each section?

  I want to generate the bibliography for each section, and have it at the end of the section. When I do this at the moment it generates the full bibliography and places it after each section. Is there a way that this can be done? The advice here says "The chapterbib package provides an option sectionbib that puts the bibliography in a \section* instead of \chapter*, something that makes sense if there is a bibliography in each chapter. This option will not work when natbib is also loaded; instead, add the option to natbib. " I don't understand what this means, and I've tried experimenting with what I thought the options are. Specifically, what does "add the option to natbib" mean? Thank you for your help.

• Why can't sub-packages see package private classes?

  Okay so, I have this project structure: package A.B class SuperClass (this class is marked package private) package A.B.C class SubClass (inherits from super class) I'd rather not make SuperClass publicly visible... It is really just a utility class for this specific project (A.B). It seems to me that SubClass should be able to see SuperClass, because package A.B.C is a subpackage of A.B... but this is not the case. What would be the best way to resolve this issue? I don't think it makes sense to move everything in A.B.C up to A.B or move A.B down to A.B.C... mainly because there will probably be an A.B.D which inherits from stuff in A.B as well... I'm a bit new to Java, so be nice :D (I'm a C++ and .NET guy)

  I have been loading content with ajax and all works fine. I am quessing that I need to link the relevant files to a-z.php and then load it via ajax. Doesn't this kind of defeat the object of ajax?? That means that I will be loading the js files on the main page and then loading them again when I ajax a-z.php I hope I made some sense.

• Design Question on when to save

  Hi, I was just after peoples opinion on when the best time to save an object (or collection of objects) is. I appreciate that it can be completely dependent on the situation that you are in but here is my situation. I have a collection of objects "MyCollection" in a grid. You can open each object "MyObject" in an editor dialogue by double clicking on the grid. Selecting "Cancel" on the dialogue will back out any changes you have made, but should selecting "ok" commit those changes back to the database, or should they commit the changes on that object back to the collection and have a save method that iterates through the collection and saves all changed objects? If i have an object "MyParentObject", that contains a collection of childen "MyChildObjectCollection", none of the changes made to each "MyChildObject" would be commited to the database until the "MyParentObject" was saved - this makes sense. However in my current situation, none of the objects in the collection are linked, therefore should the "Ok" on the dialogue commit the changes to the database? Appreciate any opinions on this. • How do I setup a Master Page with ASP.net?

  Hi there, I'm normally a ColdFusion developer, but I'm having to work on a new site using some ASP.net hosting only, so forgive me if my questions seem very trivial. For numerous reasons, the website will be relatively static in the sense that it will mainly be using includes etc...that's about as complex as it will get with this. Now, I heard about the ability to set a master in ASP.net. Would anyone please be able to explain to me in a step process on how to do this? I have of course been searching for some time now on this topic but most results yield little help or no help at all since the search terms are slightly ambiguous. • Is it safe to lock a static variable in a non-static class?

  I've got a class that manages a shared resource. Now, since access to the resource depends on many parameters, this class is instantiated and disposed several times during the normal execution of the program. The shared resource does not support concurrency, so some kind of locking is needed. The first thing that came into my mind is having a static instance in the class, and acquire locks on it, like this: // This thing is static! static readonly object MyLock = new object(); // This thing is NOT static! MyResource _resource = ...; public DoSomeWork() { lock(MyLock) { _resource.Access(); } } Does that make sense, or would you use another approach?

• Storing source files outside project file directory in Visual Studio C++ 2009

  Visual Studio projects assumes all files belonging to the project are situated in the same directory as the project file, or one underneath it. For a particular project (in the non-Visual Studio sense) this is not what I want. I want to store the MSVC-specific files in another folder, because there might be other ways to build the application as well, for example with SCons. Also all the stuff MSVC splurts out clutters the source directory. Example: /source /scons /msvc <- here is where I want my MSVC-specific stuff I can add the files, in Explorer, to the source directory manually, and then link them in Visual Studio with the project. It's not the end of the world, but it annoys me a bit that Visual Studio tries to dictate the folder structure of my project. I was looking through the schemas for the project files but realized that this annoying assumption is in the IDE and not the format of the project files. Do someone know a neater way to solve this than manually linking files to the project from the source directory?

  For learning (not practical -- yet) purposes, I'd like to use the following method on an NSDictionary to give me back a set of keys that have values using a test I've defined. Unfortunately have no idea how to specify the predicate. NSDictionary keysOfEntriesPassingTest: - (NSSet *)keysOfEntriesPassingTest:(BOOL (^)(id key, id obj, BOOL *stop))predicate Let's say for example all my values are NSURLs, and I'd like to get back all the URLs that are on port 8080. Here's my stab at coding that -- though it doesn't really make sense to me that it'd be correct: NSSet * mySet = [myDict keysOfEntriesPassingTest:^(id key, id obj, BOOL *stop) { if( [[obj port] isEqual: [NSNumber numberWithInt: 8080]]) { return key; }] And that's because I get back the following compiler error: incompatible block pointer types initializing 'void (^)(struct objc_object *, struct objc_object *, BOOL *)', expected 'BOOL (^)(struct objc_object *, struct objc_object *, BOOL *)' What am I missing? I'd appreciate a pointer at some docs that go into more detail about the "Block object" that the predicate is supposed to be. Thanks!

Again I'm still new to this javascript thing, so just would like to know if there is another way of setting the values of an array (just like declaring it); //correct way of declaring an array and reusing var adata = new Array('1','2','3'); //reusing of variable adata[0] = '4'; adata[1] = '5'; adata[2] = '6' This part is my question; I want to declare the values of the array just like declaring them to minimize the number of lines; //array declaration var data = new Array('1','2','3'); //reusing of variable data = ['4','5','6']; ---> (as an example) I get an error msg "Invalid assignment left-hand side" is this possible? • CommandManager Executed Events don't fire for custom ICommands

  The WPF CommandManager allows you to do the following (pseudo-ish-code): <Button Name="SomeButton" Command="{Binding Path=ViewModelCommand}"/> And in the code-behind: private void InitCommandEvents() { CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler(this.SomeButton, SomeEventHandler); } The SomeEventHandler never gets called. To me this didn't seem like something very wrong to try and do, but if you consider what happens inside CommandManager.AddExecutedEventHandler, it makes sense why it doesn't. Add to that the fact that the documentation clearly states that the CommandManager only works with RoutedCommands. Nonetheless, this had me very frustrated for a while and led me to this question: What would you suggest is the best workaround for the fact that the CommandManager does not support custom ICommands? Especially if you want to add behavior around the execution of a command? For now, I fire the command manually in code behind from the button click event.

  Hi Everyone, I have a working Rails application on version 2.3.5 - I am using many to many model relations and have got almost everything working. What I would like to do is on my new kase page show the most recent kase job ref at the top. So for example, if I created a new kase with a job ref of "001", if I then went to create a new kase it would show at the top "Your previous kases reference was 001". I have the field of jobref in the new kase form, so I am trying to workout what I need to do to output only the last jobref. If that makes sense! Thanks, Danny

  Hi, This is not a specific bug, its more about not knowing how to do something. I've an NSTextView and I need to paint the background of specific ranges of text when the user clicks on a specific part of the text view. I've tried this but I just get erratic behaviour in the sense that sometimes text loses the foreground color or the background doesn't span the whole range: NSLayoutManager *layoutManager = [myTextView layoutManager]; [layoutManager removeTemporaryAttribute:NSBackgroundColorAttributeName forCharacterRange:range]; [[myTextView layoutManager] setTemporaryAttributes:attributes forCharacterRange:range]; For the sake of simplicity assume that range is always a valid string (it is in my testing environment).

• Java swing examples - Ants running around a world getting food from piles?

  I haven't done any swing programming in a while, so I'm looking for some GUI examples that are at least close to what I'm trying to do. The gui that I'll need to be representing is small nodes (let's say ants) travelling around collecting food from food piles (which just means small nodes travelling to bigger nodes). Once the node (ant) takes a piece of food, the pile shrinks a bit and the ant takes it back home (to ANOTHER circle). This SOUNDS pretty trivial, but all of the boilerplate involved in setting up a java GUI just makes little logical sense to me, and the GUI is such a small piece of my project. Any examples that would be great for this style of project would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
