  • Adding to App Paths for 'Run' as a non-admin

    - by Cooper
Is there a way to add a new App Path (for adding commands to Start-Run) without needing Admin? With admin, you can add an App Path to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths. I tried adding one under HKCU with no effect. I've added a new (user-writable) location to my user's PATH environment variable which lets me launch things from Start-Run, but the nerd in me still wants to know about the App Paths.

  • Reset push notification settings for app

    - by hanno
I am developing an app with push notifications. To check all possible ways of user interaction, I'd like to test my app when a user declines to have push notifications enabled for my app during the first start. The dialog (initiated by registerForRemoteNotificationTypes), however, appears only once per app. How do I reset the iPhone OS's memory of my app. Deleting the app and reinstalling doesn't help.

  • iPhone: launch image for tab app?

    - by Karsten Silz
I have a tab-based iPhone app where I want to increase the perceived start-up speed with a launch image. As defined by the iPhone HIG, the launch image is a screenshot of your app (called Default.png) that is displayed immediately and looks very similar to the app's first screen (e.g., the screenshot of an empty table when the app displays a table first). Now the problem with a tab-based app is that users can rearrange the order of tabs so that any of the tabs may be the first tab to show upon launch. I think I read somewhere that you can't change the Default.png programmatically in your app, but I couldn't find that in the HIG (and the "Clock" app seems to do exactly that - having one launch image per tab). So, how do provide a launch image for a tab-based app?

  • IPhone app with SSL client certs

    - by Pavel Georgiev
I'm building an iphone app that needs to access a web service over https using client certificates. If I put the client cert (in pkcs12 format) in the app bundle, I'm able to load it into the app and make the https call (largely thanks to stackoverflow.com). However, I need a way to distribute the app without any certs and leave it to the user to provide his own certificate. I thought I would just do that by instructing the user to import the certificate in iphone's profiles (settings-general-profiles), which is what you get by opening a .p12 file in Mail.app and then I would access that item in my app. I would expect that the certificates in profiles are available through the keychain API, but I guess I'm wrong on that. 1) Is there a way to access a certificate that I've already loaded in iphone's profile in my app? 2) What other options I have for loading a user specified certificate in my app? The only thing I can come up with is providing some interface where the user can give an URL to his .p12 cerificate, which I can then load into the app's keychain for later use, but thats not exactly user-friednly. I'm looking for something that would allow the user to put the cert on phone (email it to himself) and then load it in my app.

  • Using the WF rules engine without workflow in production - implementation experiences

    - by Josh E
I'm designing an application for a type of case management system that has a big requirement for customizable, flexible business rules. I'm planning on using the WF Rules Engine without workflow (see: here, among other examples and such). One of the points my client brought up (justifiably so!) is whether there are extant examples of using the rules engine for a business rules engine without workflow. My question, of course is: Has anyone used the WF Rules engine sans workflow in a production application before, and what were your experiences?

  • Offline iOS web app: loads my manifest, but doesn't work offline

    - by Ken
I'm writing a web app to be used offline on iOS. I've created a manifest, am serving it up as text/cache-manifest, and it usually works fine, when running inside Safari. If I add it as an app to my home screen, then turn on Airplane mode, it can't open the app at all -- I get an error and it offers to close the app. (I thought this was the entire purpose of an offline app!) When I load the app a first time when online, I can see in my logs that it's requesting every page listed in the manifest. If I turn off Airplane mode, and load the app, I can see the first file it's requesting is my main.html file (which is both listed in the manifest, and has the manifest=... attribute). It then requests the manifest, and all my other files, getting 200's for all (and 304's for anything requested a second time during this load). When I load the page in Chrome, and click around, the logs show the only thing it's trying to reach on the server is "/favicon.ico" (which is a 404, and which I don't think iOS Safari tries to load, anyway). All of the files listed in the manifest are valid and served without error. The Chrome inspector lists, under "APPLICATION CACHE", all the cached files I've listed which I expect. The entire set of files is about 50 KB, way under any limit on offline resources that I've found. Is this supposed to work, i.e., am I supposed to be able to create an offline iOS app using only HTML/CSS/JS? And where do I go about figuring out why it's failing to work offline? (Related but doesn't sound quite the same to me, since it's about Safari and not a standalone app: "Can't get a web app to work offline on iPod")

  • Authenticating GTK app to run with root permissions

    - by Thomas Tempelmann
I have a UI app (uses GTK) for Linux that requires to be run as root (it reads and writes /dev/disk*). Instead of requiring the user to open a root shell or use "sudo" manually every time when he launches my app, I wonder if the app can use some OS-provided API to ask the user to relaunch the app with root permissions. (Note: gtk app's can't use "setuid" mode, so that's not an option here.) The advantage here would be an easier workflow: The user could, from his default user account, double click my app from the desktop, and the app then would relaunch itself with root permission after been authenticated by the API/OS. I ask this because OS X offers exactly this: An app can ask the OS to launch an executable with root permissions - the OS (and not the app) then asks the user to input his credentials, verifies them and then launches the target as desired. I wonder if there's something similar for Linux (Ubuntu, e.g.) Update: The app is a remote operated disk repair tool for the unsavvy Linux user, and those Linux noobs won't have much understanding of using sudo or even changing their user's group memberships, especially if their disk just started acting up and they're freaking out. That's why I seek a solution that avoids technicalities like this.

  • Which Workflow Engine do you recommend?

    - by Glenn
I am kicking around the idea of using a workflow engine on this upcoming project. We know that there is a lot of caveats with using a workflow engine and we have a lot of development experience in many platforms so we would be willing to let the choice of workflow engine take precedence over our favorite toolset or developer IDE. We are more interested in internal workflow (i.e. petri net for easily changeable ERP purposes without involving additional coder time) than external workflow (i.e. aggregating SOAP calls into a transaction aware, higher level SOA). Which workflow engine would you recommend? We have superficially looked at offerings by Oracle, Microsoft, and some open source stuff too. It's all very overwhelming so please respond only if you have real life experience with implementing internal workflow.

  • What are the restrictions for the name of an application when submitting to App Store ?

    - by Patrick
Hello, I have just finished my application for iPhone. I would like to know if it is possible to use the word iPhone in the name of the application. For example, can I name my application iPhonesque ? And for the icon, can I use graphics related to Apple like a Mac Windows (with the three buttons, red, yellow and green) on snow leopard background ? Thank you very much for your answers.

  • Where do I attach the StoreKit delegate and observer in a Cocos2d App?

    - by Jeff B
I have figured out how all of the StoreKit stuff works and have actually tested working code... however, I have a problem. I made my "store" layer/scene the SKProductsRequestDelegate. Is this the correct thing to do? I get the initial product info like so: SKProductsRequest *productRequest = [[SKProductsRequest alloc] initWithProductIdentifiers: productIDs]; [productRequest setDelegate: self]; [productRequest start]; The problem is that if I transition to a new scene when a request is in progress, the current layer is retained by the productRequest. This means that touches on my new scene/layer are handled by both the new layer and the old layer. I could cancel the productRequest when leaving the scene, but: I do not know if it is in progress at that point. I cannot release it because it may or may not have been released by the request delegates. There has got to be a better way to do this. I could make the delegate a class external to the current layer, but then I do not know how to easily update the layer with the product information when the handler is called.

  • Help with why my app crashed?

    - by Moshe
I'm writing an iPad app that is a "kiosk" app. The iPad should be hanging on the wall and the app should just run. I did a test, starting the app last night (Friday, December 31) and letting it run. This morning, when I woke up, it was not running. I just checked the iPad's console and I can't figure out why it crashed. The iPad was plugged in and so the battery is not the issued. I did disable the idleTimer in my application delegate. The app was seen running as late as midnight last night. I would like to note that my app acts as a Bluetooth server through Game Kit and large portion of the console output is occupied by bluetooth status messages. When I opened the iPad, the app was paused and there was a system alert which prompted me to check an "Expiring Provisioning Profile". I tapped "dismiss" and the alert went away. The app crashed about a second after I dismissed the system alert. Any ideas how I can diagnose this problem? Why would my app crash? Here is my iPad's Console log, as copied from Xcode's organizer. Edit: A bit of Googling lead me to this site which says that alert views cause the app to lose focus. Could that be involved? What can I do to fix the problem? EDIT2: My Crash log describes the situation as: Application Specific Information: appname failed to resume in time Elapsed total CPU time (seconds): 10.010 (user 8.070, system 1.940), 100% CPU Elapsed application CPU time (seconds): 9.470, 95% CPU

    - by Jaume
    I have an activity that I force keyboard to appears using, InputMethodManager inputMethodManager=(InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); inputMethodManager.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.SHOW_FORCED, 0); keyboard appears properly and also obscured when needed. If the activity never shows keyboard or shows it without start editing text, it is finished with no errors but if you just write one single character or more, app will crash. How to solve it? thank you. method used to finish activity, boto_back.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View arg0) { InputMethodManager inputMethodManager=(InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE); inputMethodManager.toggleSoftInput(InputMethodManager.HIDE_IMPLICIT_ONLY, 0); finish(); } }); @Override public void onDestroy() { if (adMob != null) { // Destroy the AdView. adMob.destroy(); } super.onDestroy(); } logcat, 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.TabBar_iOSActivity}: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.webPush}: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2693) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2711) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread.java:121) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:976) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:130) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3701) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:507) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:866) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:624) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to destroy activity {com.xxxx.xxxx/com.xxxx.projecte1.webPush}: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2693) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2603) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.LocalActivityManager.dispatchDestroy(LocalActivityManager.java:622) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityGroup.onDestroy(ActivityGroup.java:85) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at com.xxxx.projecte1.TabBar_iOSActivity.onDestroy(TabBar_iOSActivity.java:417) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): at android.app.ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(ActivityThread.java:2680) 07-07 19:04:25.191: E/AndroidRuntime(8443): ... 11 more

  • iPhone app store approval - coredata design change

    - by satyam
I created an app, uploaded to app store and approved by app store as well. Its ready for download. The app is based on coredata. Now I changed the design of the app to add new functionality. Changes include addition of new attributes to current entities, deletion of few entities etc. Now, if I upload the app to app store, does it approve or not? Do I have to put and Note saying that "Please uninstall old version and install new version?" Will my app be approved first of all or not.

  • Ember-App-Kit: How to execute code only in release mode?

    - by Dominik Schmidt
I have created an error handler as described here: http://emberjs.com/guides/understanding-ember/debugging/#toc_implement-a-code-ember-onerror-code-hook-to-log-all-errors-in-production But this code is not only executed in production mode but also in normal debug builds which floods my server logs. I know that Ember.debug() calls and alike are being filtered out for production builds, but I couldn't find out where/how that is implemented and if that same mechanism could be used to make my code only fire in production code.

  • disable download of my paid app in Android

    - by Boy
I have a paid app in the store which will remove the ads in another app when it is installed on that device. Now I want to remove this 'remove ads' app, as I want to have an in-app payement for this for instance (or maybe I just keep the ads version only). But the problem is, if I unpublish the app, people who bought it will not be able to download it again when they get a new phone or reset their phone. How to I keep the app in the Play Store, but prevent people from buying it? Is this possible? My backup plan is: make the app cost 10.000 euro's and put in the message that this app should not be bought anymore. But I don't like that...

  • Why do enterprise app programmers get higher salaries than web programmers

    - by jpartogi
I am an enterprise app programmer, mainly using Java, but now I want to move into web programming and build websites that are visited by millions of users. But what is surprising to me is that the salary level is so much different. A Java programmer seems to get a higher salary than a web programmer. Why is this so? Is it perceived that Java/enterprise applications are more difficult, thus the programmers get a higher salary?
