  • OpenOffice - make autocorrect keep the original letter case

    I use OpenOffice to write in about 5 languages, using the US keyboard only. I therefore make extensive use of the autocorrect feature to add accents and the like automatically. The problem is that OpenOffice insists on ignoring the letter case I use, and instead it always uses that which I used when setting up the autocorrect. For example, now when I type, in French, "D'apres", it gets converted to "d’après" instead of "D’après". Is there a way to tell OpenOffice not to change the letter case?

  • Get XMMS2 to call outside script on automatic playlist advance?

    Is there a way to get XMMS2 to call an outside script when it advances in a playlist - either automatically or via manual intervention (e.g. xmms2 next)? The goal is to have balloons pop up on my desktop to tell me what new song has started playing, and I really, really don't want to write a background daemon that polls 'xmms2 info' or 'xmms2 current' if there's a way to get it to issue the callback.     Is there a way to prevent Windows from going into sleep mode while running a program on the command line or with cygwin? Ideally, I'm hoping for something that could be used like: nosleep myscript.sh Background Sometimes I start up long-running jobs like a manual backup or large file transfers and I've found that Windows often goes to sleep before these finish. I'd like to be able to start up the command and prevent sleep mode while the command is running, but have it automatically work again once the command has completed.

  • What's the best way I can import/display lyrics for iTunes on a mac?

    I'm currently using iClip Lyrics, but apparently it's being discontinued. It can't import lyrics from certain lyrics sites (such as wikia) because they've used some javascript/iframe mix to make copy/pasting difficult. I was wondering if there were other options that are better at importing lyrics automatically as well as displaying lyrics. Bonus points for solutions that handle unicode encoded characters too, since a good portion of my music library is asian.

  • Timezone reset on Amazon AMI update

    I have a server set up through Amazon AWS. It's Amazon's RHEL-based AMI. When I initially booted up the machine, I set the proper timezone by creating a symlink: ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Los_Angeles /etc/localtime This works just fine, but whenever Amazon provides an update to their AMI the timezone automatically reverts to UTC. Is there a way around this or does it have to be manually set after each update?

  • Rsync: windows 7, synology: login error and permission denied error

    Good day to all of you all, I'm running into strange/stupid errors, and I hope anybody would be so kind to help me out. I have to admit, I am by no means a guru, so please bear with me :-) Situation: -Synology NAS (runs Linux), and Windows 7 desktop (1 normal/restricted user Lisa and 1 admin user). - Data from W7 desktop to be rsynced to synology: /volume1/home/Lisa/Backup - Rsync command: c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -avz /cygdrive/e/Lisa/ [email protected]:/volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup - I've set up ssh per these two threads: a. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/102 b. http://www.cesareriva.com/archives/112 Now the horrors begin: - root is allowed to run the rsync succesfully, however, he doesn't login automatically (so I can not use rsync in W7 batchscripts, which is of course required). - Lisa is allowed to login automatically but he can not succesfully finish the rsync command because of permission errors: rsync change dir /volume1/homes/Lisa/Backup failed: permissions denied. This happens for each and every file and subdir rsync tries to create. However, the main directory (Backup) is created. When I try to copy files from windows explorer to the directory 'Backup' using the very same user Lisa everything goes smoothly. So, obviously, there is a permission problem somewhere; either my rsync-command isn't correct, or the folder permissions for homes/Lisa aren't correct (but, then again, Windows 7 copies files to that folder without any problems, so that does make me believe the homes/Lisa-permissions don't appear to be the problem). I also tried adding: --chmod=Dugo+x --chmod=ugo+r which I found somewhere on the web, to the rsync-command, but this didn't solve any problem and gave the exact errors. Would anybody please please help me on how to fix this? I am utterly frustrated about this, because I have been trying for 1 month to get everything to work and it simply doesn't work. I bought the big Synology to end the horrors of 20 external USB-disks for once and for all (we have many pictures and home vids of our deceased dogs and want to watch these, the horrors being 'what material is on what disk'). I'll gladly return the favour of somebody helping me out by buying you a nice beer (paypal), if you could end my misery. I am not extremely skilled on Linux (not at all :-( ) so if you could give an extra word when possible so I understand what to do, I'd be very grateful.     I've recently been moving our instances to EBS instances (CentOS) and still have a bit of confusion on what's happening when I "stop" and instance. I have some of my services with runlevels 345 on but when I start a stopped instance the services don't start. What's actually happening when I issue a stop command to the instance, and how do I get my services to start automatically when I start the instance up again?

  • Excel 2007 | Remove blank fields from pivot tables

    Every time I create a pivot table (available for all Excel versions) I get one or several blank fields. How can I get rid of them? One workaround I used was to select the blank field, right click | Filter | Hide Selected Items. This can solve my problem but I need to do it manually... Is there a way to automatically hide/exclude the blanks?

From Firefox, if I give something to search in the Google search box in the browser, it is automatically taking me to google.de, and is returning results which is of no use for me. Is there any chance, that I can change the default to google.com or google.co.in or google.co.uk, something like that which gives me English results?

    I am using Apple's Mobile Me and am looking for a program that I can leave running on a Unix server somewhere that will monitor the IMAP INBOX and automatically copy all incoming messages to another mailbox (call it Archive). I've tried implementing this myself in python with imaplib2 and the IDLE command and have found that my connection keeps getting disconnected. Is there any off-the-shelf open source software that I can use to do this?

    Hi I need to control a Windows 7 PC via VNC from a Mac in an office LAN. Since the IPs are dynamically assigned, I'd like the PC to appear in my "Places" and in the automatically detected nearby servers in VNC client I'm using -- both of which require the PC to advertise its VNC server via Samba (right?). I tried installing ultravnc, which works when I access it directly by IP, but it doesn't seem to advertise itself in the network. Any ideas?

    On my Windows Vista PC, there is always an instance of "GoogleUpdate.exe" running. I find this annoying, so I'd like to make sure it doesn't start automatically. This proves to be not so easy, as I have tried these solutions: I disabled the "Google updateservice" service I removed the registry section "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Google Update" None of these worked. The registry section is simply re-added. Does anyone know the trick to avoid GoogleUpdate.exe to be started after booting the system?

  • Remote Desktop and Num Lock

    Whenever I log into my Windows 7 desktop from my Windows 7 laptop using RDC, the Num Lock is enabled on the host computer and it is not disabled after disconnecting. What can I do to stop the Num Lock from being enabled or automatically disable it at the end of the session? (I do not know if this happens only on Windows 7 and have no way of checking, so I went with the generic windows tag)
