  • How does overlayViewTouched notification work in the MoviePlayer sample code

    - by Jonathan
Hi, I have a question regarding the MoviePlayer sample code provided by apple. I don't understand how the overlayViewTouch notification works. The NSlog message I added to it does not get sent when I touch the view (not button). // post the "overlayViewTouch" notification and will send // the overlayViewTouches: message - (void)overlayViewTouches:(NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"overlay view touched"); // Handle touches to the overlay view (MyOverlayView) here... } I can, however, get the NSlog notification if I place it in -(void)touchesBegan in "MyOverlayView.m". Which makes me think it is recognizing touches but not sending a notification. // Handle any touches to the overlay view - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch* touch = [touches anyObject]; if (touch.phase == UITouchPhaseBegan) { NSLog(@"overlay touched(from touchesBegan") // IMPORTANT: // Touches to the overlay view are being handled using // two different techniques as described here: // // 1. Touches to the overlay view (not in the button) // // On touches to the view we will post a notification // "overlayViewTouch". MyMovieViewController is registered // as an observer for this notification, and the // overlayViewTouches: method in MyMovieViewController // will be called. // // 2. Touches to the button // // Touches to the button in this same view will // trigger the MyMovieViewController overlayViewButtonPress: // action method instead. NSNotificationCenter *nc = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter]; [nc postNotificationName:OverlayViewTouchNotification object:nil]; } } Can anyone shed light on what I am missing or doing wrong? Thank you.

  • Why is my app running

    - by John Smith
I have compiled my iPhone app with setting (Device, Release). I install it on the test machine and it runs with no problem. Here's the problem. The app is linked to a C++ library. The compilation on the simulator has no errors. However the device compilation produces 568 errors, mostly about different visibilities w.r.t AppDelegate.o. They all look like: QL::Error::~Error()has different visibility (default) in /QL/build/Release-iphoneos/libQLLibrary.a(abcd.o) and (hidden) in /Programming/ObjC/Second/build/Second.build/Release-iphoneos/FG.build/Objects-normal/armv6/AppDelegate.o Why is this, and how can I stop the errors anyway?

  • webViewDidFinishLoad exception

    - by Nava Carmon
Hi, I have a screen with a webView in my navigation controller stack and when I navigate from this view back to a previous before the page completely loaded I get a EXCEPTION_BAD_ACCESS. Seems, that the view with a webView being released before it comes to webViewDidFinishLoad function. My question is how to overcome this problem? I don't expect from the user to wait till the page loads... The code is very simple: - (void) viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:storeUrl]; //URL Requst Object NSURLRequest *requestObj = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; //Load the request in the UIWebView. [browser loadRequest:requestObj]; } TIA

  • iPhone: NSAlert Delegate Method Never Called

    - by Marco
Hello, I have implemented an NSAlert but the delegate method didDissmissWithButton is never called. This code evokes the NSAlert: NSString *title = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Keine Internetverbindung"]; NSString *alertMessage = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Es konnte keine Verbindung zu www.sip.de aufgebaut werden!"]; NSString *ok = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Ok"]; UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:title message:alertMessage delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:ok otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; and this is the NSAlert delegate method: - (void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDisMissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex{ exit(3); } The method is never called, what is my mistake?

  • What is a good way to animate UIViews inside UITableViewCell after a callback?

    - by erotsppa
We couldn't find a way to animate UIViews inside a UITableCell as an action from a callback. Suppose in a scenario where you click on a button on the UITableViewCell and it fires off an asynchronous action to download a picture. Suppose further that when the picture is downloaded we want a UIView in the cell to animate the picture to give user a visual feedback that something new is about to be presented. We couldn't find a way to track down the UIVIew to invoke beginAnimation on because the original cell that the user clicked on might now be used for another row due to the nature of cells being reused when you scroll up and down in the table. In other words we can't keep a pointer to that UITableViewCell. We need to find another way to target the cell and animate it if that row is visible and don't animate if the row is scrolled out of range.

  • Asynchronous Image loading in certain custom UITableViewCells

    - by Dan
So, I'm sure that this issue has been brought up before, but I haven't quite seen a solution for my specific problem. What I'm doing is loading a group of custom UITableViewCell's that are drawn using Loren Brichter's solution, each cell has some content, an icon (representing the user) that is asynchronously loaded into it, and a few other things. Eventually, I'm hoping to add support for images. Not every cell has an image, so in the creation of the cell, it determines if an image is required to be loaded and drawn into the cell. My problem is that I don't know how I can do that while keeping the image loaded asynchronously - with not every cell having the need to load an image (like needed with the icon) I'm not sure how to keep it in order when an cell is thrown off screen and re-rendered when the user scrolls over it. Each cell draws it content from an NSArray containing a custom object called FeedItem. All I'm really looking for is some sort of solution or idea to help me because right now I am at a loss. Thanks guys, I will appreciate the help.

  • Compile error when trying to _debug_ a Visual Stuio integration project

    - by Rune FS
I'm currently working on a Visual Studio integration project for VS2010 (a custom highlighter) I'm using Irony and the LanguageServiceTemplate from this Code project article. However that template is build for 2008 and the changes made in VS2010 when it comes to integrating breaks the template. When I try to compile I get the following error: Source.extension.vsixmanifest file not found in project. If a file with this name is present in the project, make sure the build action is set to "None". Any ides of what I can do to fix it?

  • UISlider returns two Touch Up Inside events, why does that happen?

    - by willc2
I have a slider that I'm using to set a float value somewhere. I connect Value Changed to a method in my viewController. That part works fine. I need to know when the user starts touching the control but not necessarily every single instant that the slider changes (I receive the Value Changed events for that). So I connected a Touch Up Inside event to another method in the viewController. The problem it, that method gets called twice when the user touches the UISlider control. WTF? It doesn't work that way with UIButtons or other touch events like Touch Down. I can work around it, I think, but it seems like a bug in the way the slider control handles touches. Does anybody know why it happens? BTW: the double touch event happens even when Touch Up Inside is the only connected event.

  • Send SMS from iPhone app

    - by Ali
I wanted to design an app that would send SMS messages to your contacts from within the app in the background. However, I cannot seem to find any tutorials on it and the Apple Docs arent anyhelp. I have also read somewhere that it is outright impossible. But if so, how does the app, iDistress manage to do it? It send text messages from preselected contacts with a custom message : http://www.buzapp.com/idistress.html Check out the screencast. Thanks.

  • sqlite3 no insert is done after --> insert into --> SQLITE_DONE

    - by Fra
Hi all, I'm trying to insert some data in a table using sqlite3 on an iphone... All the error codes I get from the various steps indicate that the operation should have been successful, but in fact, the table remains empty...I think I'm missing something... here the code: sqlite3 *database = nil; NSString *dbPath = [[[ NSBundle mainBundle ] resourcePath ] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"placemarks.sql"]; if(sqlite3_open([dbPath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK){ sqlite3_stmt *insert_statement = nil; //where int pk, varchar name, varchar description, blob picture static char *sql = "INSERT INTO placemarks (pk, name, description, picture) VALUES(99,'nnnooooo','dddooooo', '');"; if (sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &insert_statement, NULL) != SQLITE_OK) { NSAssert1(0, @"Error: failed to prepare statement with message '%s'.", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } int success = sqlite3_step(insert_statement); int finalized = sqlite3_finalize(insert_statement); NSLog(@"success: %i finalized: %i",success, finalized); NSAssert1(101, @"Error: failed to insert into the database with message '%s'.", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); sqlit3_step returns 101, so SQLITE_DONE, which should be ok.. If I execute the sql statement in the command line it works properly... anyone has an idea? could it be that there's a problem in writing the placemarks.sql because it's in the resources folder? rgds Fra

  • Problems removing a " from a string

    - by Graeme
Hi, I have a string that ends with a " (quotation mark) that I want to get rid of. However, because XCode usually requires you to enter the text you wish to remove using stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString in @"texttoremove" format, you can't use the quotation marks in the space as it thinks you are closing the text. Any ideas on how I can do it? Thanks.

  • Can MFMailComposeViewController attach an XML doc to an HTML message?

    - by Luther Baker
I am creating an email in MFMaiilComposeViewController and if I simply create some html snippets and assign them to the message body - all is well. The resulting email (in GMail and Yahoo) looks like the original HTML I sent. [mailMan_ setMessageBody:body isHTML:YES]; On the other hand, if I also include an XML attachment, my email reader renders everything as plain text … including, the XML inlined. IE: my mail client (GMail, Yahoo) shows the raw HTHML and XML tags - including html tags that I didn't supply - ie: the html, head, body tags the iPhone provides around the content: NSData *opmlData = [[NSData alloc] initWithData:[opml dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; NSString *fileName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f.opml", [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]]; [mailMan_ addAttachmentData:opmlData mimeType:@"text/xml" fileName:fileName]; I pop3'd the mails to see what was happening and found that WITHOUT an attachment, the resulting html section of the email contains this block: --0-1682099714-1273329398=:59784 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii <html><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div><h2 style="b while on the other hand, WITH the XML attachment, the iPhone is sending this: --0-881105825-1273328091=:50337 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii <html><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"><div><h2 style="bac Notice the difference? Look at the Content-Type … text/html vs text/plain. It looks like when I include an XML attachment, the iPhone is errantly tagging the HTML version of the body as plain text! Just to clarify, technically, both with and without the attachment, the iPhone also includes this: --0-881105825-1273328091=:50337 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Notebook Carpentry Bathroom floor tile Bathroom wall tile Scrape thinset But this obviously isn't where the problem lies. Am I doing something wrong? What must I do to actually "attach" XML without the iPhone labeling the entire HTML body as plain text. I tried reversing the assignments (attachment first and then body) but no luck. For what it's worth, the email looks perfect from the iPhone's sending interface. Indeed, the HTML renders correctly and the attachment looks like a little icon at the bottom of the message. This problem has more to do with what the iPhone is actually sending.

  • ListAdapter to modify the datasource (which is an arraylist)

    - by dusker
Hi Everyone, here's a problem that i've run into lately: I have a listview with a custom adapter class, the adapter takes in a listview and populates the listview with elements from it. Now, i'd like to have a button on each row of a listview to remove the item from it. How should i approach this problem? Is there a way to remotely trigger a method in the activity class and call notifydatachanged() method on the adapter to refresh the listview? thanks in advance for your help and some code snippets if possible best regards peter

  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal received

    - by Hector Ramos
When deploying the application to the device, the program will quit after a few cycles with the following error: Program received signal: "EXC_BAD_ACCESS". The program runs without any issue on the iPhone simulator, it will also debug and run as long as I step through the instructions one at a time. As soon as I let it run again, I will hit the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal. In this particular case, it happened to be an error in the accelerometer code. It would not execute within the simulator, which is why it did not throw any errors. However, it would execute once deployed to the device. Most of the answers to this question deal with the general EXC_BAD_ACCESS error, so I will leave this open as a catch-all for the dreaded Bad Access error. EXC_BAD_ACCESS is typically thrown as the result of an illegal memory access. You can find more information in the answers below. Have you encountered the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal before, and how did you deal with it?

  • Drawing triangle/arrow on a line with CGContext

    - by Pete
    Hi, I am using the framework of route-me for working with locations. In this code the path between two markers(points) will be drawn as a line. My Question: "What code should I add if I want to add an arrow in the middle(or top) of the line, so that it points the direction" Thanks - (void)drawInContext:(CGContextRef)theContext { renderedScale = [contents metersPerPixel]; float scale = 1.0f / [contents metersPerPixel]; float scaledLineWidth = lineWidth; if(!scaleLineWidth) { scaledLineWidth *= renderedScale; } //NSLog(@"line width = %f, content scale = %f", scaledLineWidth, renderedScale); CGContextScaleCTM(theContext, scale, scale); CGContextBeginPath(theContext); CGContextAddPath(theContext, path); CGContextSetLineWidth(theContext, scaledLineWidth); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(theContext, [lineColor CGColor]); CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(theContext, [fillColor CGColor]); // according to Apple's documentation, DrawPath closes the path if it's a filled style, so a call to ClosePath isn't necessary CGContextDrawPath(theContext, drawingMode); }

  • The accossoryView of a UITableViewCell disappears after the visible view is changed

    - by Luca
Hi! I'm experiencing this strange situation. I have a UITableView where, when the user selects a cell, a long (network) process begins. So, I performed this in a background thread and I placed (in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath) a UIActivityIndicatorView as the accessory view. This is what I wrote: UITableViewCell* cell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; UIActivityIndicatorView* activityView = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite]; cell.accessoryView = activityView; [activityView startAnimating]; [activityView release]; everything seems to work correctly, except that, if during a loading process (when the indicator is animated), I switch the view using a UITabBar, when I go back to the UITableView, the UIActivityIndicatorView that should still be there has disappeared. Any idea of what I did wrong? Thanks!

  • wsimport and Android or any other ProxyGenerator for android?

    - by Shoaib Shaikh
I am currently developing an Android app i previously developed for IPhone. My Backend is built using WCF service with basichttpEndpoint, i also enabled RESTful methods for better support with other Mobile platforms as well. Now i want to access my existing WCF service(SOAP/REST endpoint) on Android but i need some good ProxyGenerator to consume my services. I just google around for some solution and i found wsimport and wsdl2java(Axis) are two options in java domain. But i am still unable to find any solution related to Android. Can anyone suggest me the best practice in such scenario?

  • [NSFetchedResultsController sections] returns nil?

    - by Chris
Hi Everyone, I am trying to resolve this for days at this stage and I'm hoping you can help. I have two ViewControllers which query two different tables from the same database using Core Data. The first ViewController is opened with the app and displays fine. The second is called from within the first ViewController, using a pretty standard fetch setup: - (NSFetchedResultsController *)fetchedClients { // Set up the fetched results controller if needed. if (fetchedClients == nil) { // Create the fetch request for the entity. NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; // Edit the entity name as appropriate. NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Clients" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; // Edit the sort key as appropriate. NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"clientsName" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; // Edit the section name key path and cache name if appropriate. // nil for section name key path means "no sections". NSFetchedResultsController *aFetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:nil cacheName:@"Root"]; aFetchedResultsController.delegate = self; self.fetchedClients = aFetchedResultsController; [aFetchedResultsController release]; [fetchRequest release]; [sortDescriptor release]; [sortDescriptors release]; } return fetchedClients; } When I call [self.fetchedClients sections], I get a nil (0x0) return. I have examined the database using an external application to ensure data exists in the "Clients" table. Can anyone think of a reason why [self.fetchedClients sections] would return nil? Many thanks for any help you can provide. Regards, Chris
