    The GWT Desinger is not working on Ubuntu 12.10. It worked on Ubuntu 12.04. I installed the Eclipse Plugin as described on the GWT Homepate If I want to open the Design-View (for an xml-GWT-File), Eclipse crashes (prompt closing of the application). I found this two workarounds for which are for 12.04 (but on 12.04 i did not need this to get it working - it worked out of the box for me). I tried them on my 12.10 Ubuntu but they are not working. But I have to say that I can't find the "Use WebKit for rendering GWT UI (if available)"-Flag. What can I do to get the GWT Designer working? I tested it successfully again on a 12.04 Ubuntu VMware image. If I don't get a solution, I have to downgrade my Ubuntu to 12.04 again.

  • Is imposing the same code format for all developers a good idea?

    We are considering to impose a single standard code format in our project (auto format with save actions in Eclipse). The reason is that currently there is a big difference in the code formats used by several (10) developers which makes it harder for one developer to work on the code of another developer. The same Java file sometimes uses 3 different formats. So I believe the advantage is clear (readability = productivity) but would it be a good idea to impose this? And if not, why? UPDATE We all use Eclipse and everyone is aware of the plan. There already is a code format used by most but it is not enforced since some prefer to stick to their own code format. Because of the above reasons some would prefer to enforce it.

  • Building a Store Locator ASP.NET Application Using Google Maps API

    The past couple of projects I've been working on have included the use of the Google Maps API and geocoding service in websites for various reasons. I decided to tie together some of the lessons learned, build an ASP.NETstore locator demo, and write about it on 4Guys. Last week I published the first article in what I think will be a three-part series: Building a Store Locator ASP.NET Application Using Google Maps (Part 1). Part 1 walks through creating a demo where a user can type in an address and any stores within a (roughly) 15 mile area will be displayed in a grid.The article begins with a look at the database used to power the store locator (namely, a single table that contains one row for every location, with each location storing its store number, address, and, most important, latitude and longitude coordinates) and then turns to usingGoogle's geocoding service to translatea user-entered address into latitude and longitude coordinates. The latitude and longitude coordinates are used to find nearby stores, which are then displayed in a grid. Part 2 looks at enhancing the search results to include a map with markers indicating the position of each nearby store location. The Google Maps API, along with a bit of client-side script and server-side logic, make this actually pretty straightforward and easy to implement. Here's a screen shot of the improved store locator results. Part 3, which I plan on publishing next week, looks at how to enhance the map by using information windows to display address information when clicking a marker. Additionally, I'll show how to use custom icons for the markers so that instead of having the same marker for each nearby location the markers will be images numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on, which will correspond to a number assigned to each search result in the grid. The idea here is that by numbering the search results in the grid and the markers on the map visitors will quickly be able to see what marker corresponds to what search result. This article and demo has been a lot of fun to write and create, and I hope you enjoy reading it, too.     Hi all, I'm trying to get Subclipse working in Eclipse Galeilo, and to do that I have to install the JavaHL library. I installed the library using sudo apt-get install libsvn-java, but the eclipse.ini file has to be modified to take in the new library as an argument. First change to the ini file was -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/jni/, which produced the errors "no libsvnjavahl-1 in java.library.path" "incompatible javahl library loaded. 1.3.x or later required." according to the install printout, version 1.6.12 was installed. So, I added libsvnjavahl-1.so to the file path above, and produced the following errors: "no libsvnjavahl-1 in java.library.path" "no svnjavahl-1 in java.library.path" "no svnjavahl in java.library.path" What's going on here?

My question is, since there is no HTML response from server side, can the MV* Javascript Frameworks like Angular / Backbone / Ember take care of complete Front-end, right from generating HTML page with CSS?

    When people refer to an architecture that involves a single service API that all clients talk to (a client can be an iPad app, etc), what is the "client" for the web app -- is it A) the web browser itself. Thus, the entire app is written in html/css/javascript and ajax calls to the service are made to fetch data and changes are made through javascript or B) you have an MVC-like stack on a server, only instead of the controllers calling to the model layer directly, they call to the service API which return models that are used to render the traditional views or C) something else?

  • How can I tell if a user came to a page via a Google Adwords PPC campaign?

    I have a form with a hidden "Came from Adwords" field that will be marked true (via javascript) if the user came from a PPC campaign and will stay false if not. That way, when the user submits the form, we will have each submission stored with info about whether that submission came from adwords or not, all without the user knowing. How can I fetch this info? I know that Google sets a cookie called Conversion whenever you click a PPC link to a page, but the cookie's content is just random alphanumeric characters. Is there something in the Analytics/Adwords API that will let me test for this? Do I have to resort to adding ?ref=adwords or something onto the PPC URLs so that I can test that way?

    Hi all, I have a database of cities (in both the US and the rest of the world). The database entries are simple text strings. Currently the database contains even small cities (population 10,000). I wish to use a larger scale database instead, by assigning the cities into larger geographical\metropolitan areas. An example can be the Metropolitan areas in Google's AdWords API: http://code.google.com/intl/iw-IL/apis/adwords/docs/developer/adwords_api_us_metros.html but I have no problem using other databases instead. I'd be grateful for any advice on how this can be performed using existing databases\APIs!

  • GMap in iframe gets off-center

    I have a Google Map (API 2) that used to work fine as a standalone page. However, when I load the map page within an iframe (with Thickbox), the map gets off-center: normally it's centered over Germany and in the iframe it centers on Iran, instead. How to make the map center correctly? My guesses: The problem can result from the iframe loading time. I guess, that the script calculates window size basing on the iframe size when it's still loading. It's strange since I load the map when the document is ready. $(document).ready(function() { setupSearchForm(); setupMap(); setupResults(); }); For instance, when I refresh the already loaded iframe the center comes back to Germany.   • Change Gmail message routing on individual mailboxes

    We are using dual delivery for one of our Google Apps doamins and need to be able to disable mail delivery to the Gmail account. You can manually update the settings on a per user basis through the Admin interface by unchecking the box next to "Google Apps Email" in the Email routing section. From the Google Apps API documentation for the python library it does not appear that I programmatically disable the email routing for "Google Apps Email" on a per user basis. Does anyone know if it's possible? The only routing related method I can find is at the Domain level and not the user level. gdata.apps.adminsettings.service Thank you!
