• Why are the custom campaign parameters in Google Analytics so long?

    - by Baumr
Adding several Google Analytics custom campaign parameters can make URLs very long. For example, in Google's own examples: http://www.example.com/?utm_campaign=spring&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=exampleblog http://www.example.com/?utm_campaign=spring&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter1 http://www.example.com/?utm_campaign=spring&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter1&utm_content=toplink Is there shorter alternatives that GA will pick up?

  • Sync Google Calendar with SharePoint Calendar

    - by dataintegration
The ADO.NET Providers for Google and SharePoint make it easy to retrieve and update data in both Google's web services and SharePoint. This article shows how the SQL interface to data makes it easy to build applications that need to move data from one source to another. The application described here is a demo Windows application that synchronizes calendar events between Google and SharePoint, but the RSSBus Providers can be used to achieve integrations on both the .NET and the Java platforms, including more sophisticated features like full automation. Getting the Events Step 1: Google accounts can have several calendars. Obtain a list of a user's Google Calendars by issuing a query to the Calendars table. For example: SELECT * FROM Calendars. Step 2: In order to get a list of the events from a given Google Calendar, issue a query to the CalendarEvents table while specifying the CalendarId from the Calendars table. The resulting events can be further filtered by using the StartDateTime or EndDateTime columns. For example: SELECT * FROM CalendarEvents WHERE (CalendarId = '[email protected].google.com') AND (StartDateTime >= '1/1/2012') AND (StartDateTime <= '2/1/2012') Step 3: SharePoint stores data in Lists. There are various types of lists, e.g., document lists and calendar lists. A SharePoint account can have several lists of the same type. To find all the calendar lists in SharePoint, use the ListLists stored procedure and inspect the BaseTemplate column. Step 4: The SharePoint data provider models each SharPoint list as a table. Get the events in a particular calendar by querying the table with the same name as the list. The events may be filtered further by specifying the EventDate or EndDate columns. For example: SELECT * FROM Calendar WHERE (EventDate >= '1/1/2012') AND (EventDate <= '2/1/2012') Synchronizing the Events Synchronizing the events is a simple process. Once the events from Google and SharePoint are available they can be compared and synchronized based on user preference. The sample application does this based on user input, but it is easy to create one that does the synchronization automatically. The INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE statements available in both data providers makes it easy to create, update, or delete events as needed. Pre-Built Demo Application The executable for the demo application can be downloaded here. Note that this demo is built using BETA builds of the ADO.NET Provider for Google V2 and ADO.NET Provider for SharePoint V2, and will expire in 2013. Source Code You can download the full source of the demo application here. You will need the Google ADO.NET Data Provider V2 and the SharePoint ADO.NET Data Provider V2, which can be obtained here.

  • Can a site recover by itself after dropping google page rank for 404 errors?

    - by Jeff
Recently redid a website and changed the directory / URL structure. I did some .htaccess redirects for the main landing pages - however when reviewing web master tools received 404 errors for the rest of the changed URLs and noticed that Google dropped my site from the #1 position to around the 5th page. I corrected all the 404s by providing redirects in the .htaccess, resubmitted the site map and tested the google crawl bot. Will my page regain its rank by itself - or am I going to have to put some time into like I originally did?

    - by Ubuntuser
Now, that Adobe has stopped issuing new releases for Linux desktops, the only option for users is to use Google Chrome, for those who want to use the latest Flash updates. I use Chromium. Is there any way to get Chromium use the Flash from Google Chrome? The reason I as this question is that I have noticed both these browsers run in the background, so technically, the browsers' plugins are available to use.

  • How to track site visitors across several browser sessions or computers using Google Analytics?

    - by Craig
If a site visitor clears cookies, uses various browsers or computers then Google Analytics will have a hard time detecting them as being by the same user. However since 95% of the site content is only available when logged in, so I should be able to identify multiple visits as the same user so long as they log in. How can I identify to Google that the visits are by the same user? (without breaking the Terms and Conditions)

  • Since Google reduces the value of links alongside nofollow links, what is an alternative?

    - by SharkTheDark
Since 2009, Google counts nofollow links also as outgoing links, and thus reduces the value of the other links. What are some alternatives to stop Google counting outside links from my page? If I make links appear on my page source like this: Link Name and then in JavaScript replace span with a tag and replace hrefs with href for every span tag that has link="true". Will this help?

  • Injecting jQuery into a page fails when using Google AJAX Libraries API

    - by jakemcgraw
I'd like to inject jQuery into a page using the Google AJAX Libraries API, I've come up with the following solution: http://my-domain.com/inject-jquery.js: ;((function(){ // Call this function once jQuery is available var func = function() { jQuery("body").prepend('
jQuery Rocks!
'); }; // Detect if page is already using jQuery if (!window.jQuery) { var done = false; var head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0]; var script = document.createElement("script"); script.src = "http://www.google.com/jsapi"; script.onload = script.onreadystatechange = function(){ // Once Google AJAX Libraries API is loaded ... if (!done && (!this.readyState || this.readyState == "loaded" || this.readyState == "complete")) { done = true; // ... load jQuery ... window.google.load("jquery", "1", {callback:function(){ jQuery.noConflict(); // ... jQuery available, fire function. func(); }}); // Prevent IE memory leaking script.onload = script.onreadystatechange = null; head.removeChild(script); } } // Load Google AJAX Libraries API head.appendChild(script); // Page already using jQuery, fire function } else { func(); } })()); The script would then be included in a page on a separate domain: http://some-other-domain.com/page.html:

This is my page

This is my page.

In Firefox 3 I get the following error: Module: 'jquery' must be loaded before DOM onLoad! jsapi (line 16) The error appears to be specific to the Google AJAX Libraries API, as I've seen others use a jQuery bookmarklet to inject jQuery into the current page. My question: Is there a method for injecting the Google AJAX Libraries API / jQuery into a page regardless of the onload/onready state?

  • Parsing google feed with linq to xml

Hi I'm trying to parse XML feed that I get via Google Contacts API with LINQ 2 XML. That's what feed looks like:

My Contacts

Contact name

<gd:email rel="http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#other" address="[email protected]" primary="true" />

I've tried a number of things with linq 2 sql, but they didn't work. Even this simple code snipped doesn't work: using (FileStream stream = File.OpenRead("response.xml")) { XmlReader reader = XmlReader.Create(stream); XDocument doc = XDocument.Load(reader); XElement feed = doc.Element("feed"); if (feed == null) { Console.WriteLine("feed not found"); } XElement id = doc.Element("id"); if (id == null) { Console.WriteLine("id is null"); } } Problem is that both id and feed are null here. What wrong am I doing?

  • Google Code + SVN or GitHub + Git

    - by Nazgulled
Let me start by telling you that I never used anything besides SVN and I'm also a Windows user. I have a couple of simple projects that are open-source, others are on there way when I'm happy enough to release their source code but either way, I was thinking of using Google Code and SVN to share the source code of my projects instead of providing a link to the source on my website. This as always been a pain cause I had to update the binaries and the code every time I released a new version. This would also help me out to have a backup of my code some where instead of just my local machine (I used to have a local Subversion server running). What I want from a service like this is very simple... I just want a place to store my source code that people can download if they want, allows me to control revisions and provide a simple and easy issue system so people can submit bugs and stuff like that. I guess both of them have this. But I don't want to host any binaries in their websites, I want this to be hosted on my website so I can control download statistics with my own scripts, I also don't have the need for wiki pages as I prefer to have all the documentation in my own website. Does anyone of this services provide a way to "disable" features like wiki and downloads and don't show them at all for my project(s)? Now, I'm sure there are lots of pros and cons about using Google Code with SVN and GitHub with Git (of course) but here's what it's important for me on each one and why I like them: Google Code: As with any Google page, the complexity is almost non-existent Everyone (or almost) as a Google account and this is nice if people want to report problems using the issues system GitHub: May (or may not) be a little more complex (not a problem for me though) than Google's pages but... ...has a much prettier interface than Google's service It needs people to be registered on GitHub to post about issues I like the fact that with Git, you have your own revisions locally (can I use TortoiseGit for this or?) Basically that's it, not much I know... What other, most common, pros and cons can you tell me about each site/software? Keep in mind that my projects are simple, I'm probably the only one who will ever develop these projects on these repositories (or maybe not, for now I will)

  • Google and Bing Map APIs Compared

    - by SGWellens
At one of the local golf courses I frequent, there is an open grass field next to the course. It is about eight acres in size and mowed regularly. It is permissible to hit golf balls there—you bring and shag our own balls. My golf colleagues and I spend hours there practicing, chatting and in general just wasting time. One of the guys brings Ginger, the amazing, incredible, wonder dog. Ginger is a Portuguese Pointer. She chases squirrels, begs for snacks and supervises us closely to make sure we don't misbehave. Anyway, I decided to make a dedicated web page to measure distances on the field in yards using online mapping services. I started with Google maps and then did the same application with Bing maps. It is a good way to become familiar with the APIs. Here are images of the final two maps: Google: Bing: To start with online mapping services, you need to visit the respective websites and get a developers key. I pared the code down to the minimum to make it easier to compare the APIs. Google maps required this CSS (or it wouldn't work): html { height: 100%; } body { height: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } Here is how the map scripts are included. Google requires the developer Key when loading the JavaScript, Bing requires it when the map object is created: Google: Bing: Note: I use jQuery to manipulate the DOM elements which may be overkill, but I may add more stuff to this application and I didn't want to have to add it later. Plus, I really like jQuery. Here is how the maps are created: Common Code (the same for both Google and Bing Maps): Bing: Note: I use jQuery to manipulate the DOM elements which may be overkill, but I may add more stuff to this application and I didn't want to have to add it later. Plus, I really like jQuery. Here is how the maps are created: Common Code (the same for both Google and Bing Maps): var gTheMap; var gMarker1; var gMarker2; $(document).ready(DocLoaded); function DocLoaded() { // golf course coordinates var StartLat = 44.924254; var StartLng = -93.366859; // what element to display the map in var mapdiv = $("#map_div")[0]; Google: // where on earth the map should display var StartPoint = new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng); // create the map gTheMap = new google.maps.Map(mapdiv, { center: StartPoint, zoom: 18, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE }); // place two markers marker1 = PlaceMarker(new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng + .0001)); marker2 = PlaceMarker(new google.maps.LatLng(StartLat, StartLng - .0001)); DragEnd(null); } Bing: // where on earth the map should display var StartPoint = new Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng); // create the map gTheMap = new Microsoft.Maps.Map(mapdiv, { credentials: 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX', center: StartPoint, zoom: 18, mapTypeId: Microsoft.Maps.MapTypeId.aerial }); // place two markers marker1 = PlaceMarker(new Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng + .0001)); marker2 = PlaceMarker(new Microsoft.Maps.Location(StartLat, StartLng - .0001)); DragEnd(null); } Note: In the Bing documentation, mapTypeId: was missing from the list of options even though the sample code included it. Note: When creating the Bing map, use the developer Key for the credentials property. I immediately place two markers/pins on the map which is simpler that creating them on the fly with mouse clicks (as I first tried). The markers/pins are draggable and I capture the DragEnd event to calculate and display the distance in yards and draw a line when the user finishes dragging. • n900 - SIP - Google Voice - DTMF

    - by Walter White
Hi all, I've been using Google Voice on my n900 and it works reasonably well, but DTMF tones do not work whatsoever. According to this page, it is fixed and has been for quite some time. https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5505 Has anyone had any luck with SIP on the n900 and DTMF tones? An earlier version of Skype on the n900 didn't support DTMF, but that was fixed. I would have thought this bug would have been fixed for some time now. Thanks, Walter

  • Firefox/Google Chrome extension to darken pages & reduce eye strain

    - by megafish
Is there an extension or add-on like Stylish which lets you easily toggle back and forth between affected (Stylish) and standard (or untainted) view? I've tried changing colors in Firefox (Settings Content Colors) but there is no quick toggle between the states. Firefox or Google Chrome, whichever one has the extension. Doesn't matter since I'll switch to using that as my primary development browser.
