• samsung netbook OS for clean install

  Hello - I recently had a problem with a corrupted registry on a samsung N120. When all else failed i reformatted the drive. However having bought the machine with windows home ed pre-installed, I didn't have original windows disck for the clean install. So I managed to install another edition of windows XP (PRO this time). Now windows opens, but several key functions are missing. e.g.: screen resolution - will not allow me any but 800x600 resolution native buttons - such as the fn + screen brightness is not working at all. Any suggestions please? ? Is there a way to get the samsung OS online (since I do have the manufacturer's/installed product key)? thanks PS: It has been my intention to install ubuntu, but i need to know i will not lose functions like screen brightness, volume, and the trackpad's scrolling function. I'd be happy to bypass the windows option if i was sure to have full keyboard/samsung functionality

• Gradle: Make a 3rd party jar available to local gradle repository

  Hi, currently, I'm testing Gradle as an alternative to Maven. In my projects, there are some 3rd party jars, which aren't available in any (Maven) repositories. My problem is now, how could I manage it to install these jars into my local .gradle repository. (If it's possible, I don't want to use the local Maven repository, because Gradle should run independently.) At the moment, I get a lot of exceptions because of missing jars. In Maven, it's quite simple by running the install command. However, my Google search for something similar to the Maven install command wasn't successful. Has anybody an idea? • Change the install directory for an OSX Package

  It drives me nuts that every time I download a binary to run on OSX that it wants to install in system directories. ~/Applications is a perfectly fine place to install and doesn't require blindly authenticating somebody else's binary. Is there a way to change the install directory for packages? On a few I've been able to open the package and edit the plist to install it elsewhere, but that doesn't work universally. I install from source when I can, but it isn't always an option. Is there a good way to force the installer to use ~/Applications?

• How to install Nokogiri as a Macruby gem?

  The latest MacRuby release notes (v0.6) state that the authors have managed to get this release working with the SQLite and Nokogiri gems. However when I run sudo macgem install nokogiri I get the following errors: ERROR: Error installing nokogiri: extconf failed: and then a bunch of paths followed by: libxml2 is missing. try 'port install libxml2' or 'yum install libxml2' /Library/Frameworks/MacRuby.framework/Versions/0.6/usr/lib/ruby/Gems/1.9.0/gems/nokogiri-1.4.1/ext/nokogiri/extconf.rb:1:in `<main>': libxml2 is missing. try 'port install libxml2' or 'yum install libxml2' (SystemExit) Anyone knows how to get this working? • Recommendations for secure business collaboration tools

  I'm searching for a secure and easy way for business partners to collaboratively edit and exchange documents, share calendars, create schedules, and assign tasks. I speculate that the ideal collaboration environment or work-flow would actually involve several technologies and services. My co-workers and I have tried a variety of things from Google Apps to Wiki's, but nothing feels very fluid or complete. I suppose defining what we need and our constraints is probably in order: collaboratively edit basic text documents and spreadsheets exchange documents like flow-charts, graphs, and files generated by our other desktop applications, but not source code assign tasks to each other and ourselves and track the history of those tasks easily see when relevant documents have been modified since last viewing and ability to easily push notifications to relevant workers (a clean front page that shows updates would probably suffice) provide limited access to contract workers and guests users if a remote user system is compromised (keystroke logger or other spyware) we don't want the criminal to be able to gain access to all business documents (processes, trade-secrets, customer lists, etc.) simply because they gained access to a single Google account (or whatever web service) Cannot be a difficult to administer VPN infrastructure Cannot cost more than $100 per month (yeah, money is tight) Needs to support up to 25 users We can host our own web applications, but it must be low maintenance solution

• Help Email Account Management among multiple users

  So I preface this with saying this may belong in IT Security, not too sure feel free to move. Currently we have an email account [email protected] - hosted via google apps (as is all our email). We had an incident where we had to terminate an employee. This employee however had the password for this account as we have 20-30 people utilizing it at any given point to manage customer emails etc. Thinking on this I feel there must be a better way to manage access. With Google you can associate upto 10 email accounts to another the problem is we have more like 20-30 people going. We were evaluating tools such as SalesForce and Assistly where people have their own login credentials and then the system contains the appropriate smtp information for the [email protected] email address to send emails from it rather than a users personal account. Aside from those options does anyone have any other thoughts? One suggestion floated was moving everyone to desktop clients and saving the PW info there so they could only login from their physical workstation but we may have situations where we'd like employees to work remotely. Does anyone have experience with this sort of system where ~20-30 people are responding from one email box and how to manage security and access?

• Bounce backs from web-generated e-mails are missing

  We use Google Apps to host my company's mail. On our website, we send some e-mails on behalf of our users. In those e-mails we include lines like this: Return-Path: <[email protected]> Sender: <[email protected]> Sending the messages works great (passes SPF tests), but in the case that the message is sent TO an invalid e-mail address, we expect to get a bounce back message sent to "[email protected]". That message never arrives. (If we send an e-mail manually from within the gmail interface to the same bad e-mail, the message does arrive). We used to receive the bounce back messages as expected, but it seems like they are always quietly blocked now (not in spam or anything). Is there a new policy that blocks bounce backs when the "From" does not match the "Return-Path" or something? We would really like to get these bounce-backs to verify the delivery of the messages. Is there any way to prevent them from being blocked?! Thank you!

• Email bouncing sent from Google

  I'm hoping someone here has an idea of where to look next. We have a domain we support which has email sent to it from one particular user bounce with the following message: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 Unrouteable address (state 14). We only have reports of bouncing form this one particular user (who is someone we don't support - except they'd like to be able to contact our customer and we're trying to figure out if the problem is on our end). Many people can successfully send to this domain and the user who is getting bounce messages can send to other domains that we support (so it's clearly something specific with the princetonscoop.com domain and not our setup in general). I've reviewed the MX records multiple times and the server logs don't show a connection which generates this error (in fact this error is not one that our mail server would ever return). So it appears that google is contacting a different mail server for some reason. I have tested sending from my gmail account and that works. I believe the sender is using a google-apps account (the account they are using is from their own domain, not a gmail account). Any ideas on what might be happening here or what to test/investigate next? Thanks.

• How do I stop postfix from handling my mail?

  Here's the situation: I have a domain, let's say domain.com. That domain has Google Apps for Business enabled, so all mail delivered to @domain.com will end up at Google (MX records point to Google). I have a PHP script at domain.com that I use to send mail to myself. But when the PHP script tries to send mail to [email protected], Postfix at that server decides that the recipient is a local user (because the address matches the domain Postfix itself is at), and tries to deliver the mail locally. But inevitably fails as the mailbox cannot be found. How can I instruct Postfix to not try to handle locally any emails to @domain.com and just send them forward so Google can pick them up? I have already removed $myhostname from mydestination field in Postfix's main.cf file, and I have restarted Postfix but Postfix still tries to deliver the mail locally. • Work from home on an iPad?

  The situation: My wife has a 13" MacBook Pro that she uses for email, Facebook, web surfing, and working from home. I'm about to buy us our first iPad. My wife's brother's computer just went belly-up, and she's contemplating giving him her MacBook and just using the iPad. The question is whether or not this is possible or realistic. Obviously, the iPad is well-suited for the email/web/Facebook tasks, but the working-from-home thing is an absolute must -- if the iPad can't handle that, it's a deal-breaker. For my wife, working from home means two things: Accessing her workplace computer's Windows Vista desktop, which she currently does via Remote Desktop. Editing Office documents locally, which she currently syncs via Dropbox. Being able to edit documents locally is important, because sometimes she will download documents and edit them when she doesn't have network access (e.g. on the subway). I'm more than happy to get a keyboard dock for her, so typing won't be an issue. Are there any iPad apps she can use to access her work computer and edit her work files? Thanks for any suggestions!

• Where to put the SPF TXT record?

  I've set up Google apps for my domain: I've registered the domain with Google by adding the CNAME Google asked and I've apparently succesfully setup the MX Google mail servers. So far I haven't yet a dedicated server: I'm just having a domain at a registrar. Now I want to activate SPF and I'm confused. In the following short webpage: http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=178723 it is written that I must add a TXT record containing: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all Where should I enter this? Should this go in the zone (?) file, like I did for the CNAME and the MX records? So far I have something like this: @ 10800 IN A 217.42.42.42 @ 10800 IN MX 5 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. @ 10800 IN MX 5 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. @ 10800 IN MX 3 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. @ 10800 IN MX 3 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. @ 10800 IN MX 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. google8a70835987f31e34 10800 IN CNAME google.com. • Strange problem with Google Mail and IMAP on Outlook 2007

  I work for a small non-profit organization. We have about 35 administrative employees who use e-mail. We're on a Windows network with a domain. Everyone is running XP Pro and Office 2007 with all updates/patches. We used to use POP3 mail through a local provider. However, we recently signed-up for a free Google Apps account, and we switched to IMAP mail through Google. Everyone uses Outlook 2007 as the client. For about ten days, everything was working fine. Yesterday afternoon, we suddenly developed a strange and annoying problem. Every time you send an e-mail message, a copy of your outgoing message shows up in your inbox. It's as if you're adding your own address to the CC: line of every message. Nothing has changed on our end. I was hoping that the problem was a temporary glitch that would resolve itself, but here we are about 24 hours later, and it's still happening. I searched Twitter, and there were a handful of vague messages about issues with Google mail and IMAP, but I didn't see any references to this specific problem. Any thoughts on what's going on here and how to fix it?

  I just want to know how other people set up their MX-entries for mail accounts used with google apps. I work at a local web-hosting firm and we get a lot of tickets from clients who want to set up these settings. I just set them up something like: example.com. 14400 IN MX 10 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 10 ASPMX4.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 15 ASPMX5.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 15 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. example.com. 14400 IN MX 30 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM. I see another firm (rival one) who sets up way more MX-records ? Roughly, around 10-15 entries. Am I doing something wrong ? More is better in this case ? Is there a secret that I'm not on too ?

• I have bought a custom domain and am using it with Gmail. All My mail is being sent as spam. What can I do?

  A while ago, I purchased my own custom domains for my websites. Before I moved them to Gmail, I just created the e-mails in my CPanel at Bluehost.com and worked from there. When the setup was like that, I could send and receive e-mail fine, and it wouldn't be marked as spam. Now I have moved these custom domains to send and receive e-mails at Gmail using Google apps. I have done everything. I have marked the domains as "Authorized" and I believe that should be enough for the mail I send with these custom e-mails is not send as spam. If it matters, I have configured my iPhone to use these custom domains with it and I'm sending all the e-mail from it. What can I do? I started doing all this today but apparently the DNS changes have already taken place. Is there something I have to do, or is it a matter of waiting 48 hours for my mail to not be marked as spam by other providers yet? EDIT: If I send mail via Gmail itself, the mail is delivered fine. If I use my iPhone however, it gets marked as spam.

I did have the express edition installed on the machine previously but uninstalled it to upgrade to the full version, I wish I hadn't now. Can anyone kindly offer any advice or point me in the right direction to stop me going insane with this? Any advice will be appreciated. I have created the symlink, and when I navigate to the folder .../opt/utorrent-server-v3_0 I can see the utserver file. But when I run the command utserver -settingspath /opt/utorrent-server-v3_0/ Therefore I cannot open the localhost:8080/gui/... Any ideas what might be the problem and how to proceed?

  Does anybody know what to do about this? Machine is a 2008 Core 2 Duo iMac with 4GB RAM. (And 64bit Debian 7 boots OK, but I've not tried installing under the latest version of VirtualBox as I have just upgraded VBox today.) VirtualBox 4.3, upon trying to boot a machine with the Ubuntu 13.10 (64bit) iso (with the VM configured for Ubuntu 64bit) crashes, with the following information: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu64.   Can't get the pulseaudio daemon to start on Ubuntu 11.1. I followed the instructions on the PulseAudio headdless server installation post but when I run: $pulseaudio -D I get: E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. and in syslog: pulseaudio[3042]: [pulseaudio] server-lookup.c: Unable to contact D-Bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11 Any suggestions?   Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit installed DVD-RW recorder PATA as SCSI. My DVD-RW recorder is in /dev/sr0 as SCSI. I opened Disk Management and my IDE PATA drive is installed as SCSI. I can't use this drive because it hangs computer (I need press reset button on CPU to back to Ubuntu). What do I do for the drive back to function with the correct drive (IDE mode)? With the first kernel version of the Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit was all functioning. Help me please.

  I must be missing something obvious but I'm not sure what. I've created a blank C++ metro app and I've just added a model that I will bind to in my UI however I'm getting a range of compiler warnings related to xamltypeinfo.g.cpp and I'm not sure what I've missed.
