• Access Edit Mode Values of BindingSource Control

  I have a BindingSource control (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.bindingsource.aspx) with a datasource of a (single) Linq object. If I change any of the properties of the underlying Linq-to-Sql object then all the other changes on the bound controls on the form are lost. Does anyone now why and how I work around it? I don't want to call EndEdit because this will commit the changes to the underlying object. I think this might be because my underlying object linq-to-sql object does not implement IEditableObject so the potental new values for the object fields are sort of stored in the forms controls. Can anyone either clarify what is going on and/or suggest a work around. Thanks!

• Loop over a file and write the next line if a condition is met

  Having a hard time fixing this or finding any good hints about it. I'm trying to loop over one file, modify each line slightly, and then loop over a different file. If the line in the second file starts with the line from the first then the following line in the second file should be written to a third file. !/usr/bin/env python with open('ids.txt', 'rU') as f: with open('seqres.txt', 'rU') as g: for id in f: id=id.lower()[0:4]+'_'+id[4] with open(id + '.fasta', 'w') as h: for line in g: if line.startswith(''+ id): h.write(g.next()) All the correct files appear, but they are empty. Yes, I am sure the if has true cases. :-) "seqres.txt" has lines with an ID number in a certain format, each followed by a line with data. The "ids.txt" has lines with the ID numbers of interest in a different format. I want each line of data with an interesting ID number in its own file. • JQuery Scrollable List Dissapears if scrolled IE7

This functions as expected in all browsers apart from IE7, where if I scroll the list to choose a time lower down in the list, the list dissapears.. • Determing Python version at runtime

  The problem I'm having is that I've written code that depends on features in python2.6 so I'm trying to build a check that will produce a useful error if someone tries to run it on a machine with python lower than 2.6. The code I put in to check for the specific version and match it should work fine but the problem I have is the interpreter on a 2.4 machine reads the file and sees a "finally" at the end of my try loop and errors out before it gets far enough into execution for my if statement to handle the version mismatch. Other than changing the magic line to specifically look for /usr/bin/python2.6 is there a way python can handle this sort of thing?

I have a 2 row ListView (bound to a textbox) with the names Scott Guthrie and Jon Skeet in it. I am trying to select "Scott Guthrie" in the ListView and have it populate the TextBox. • Wicket Drag and drop functionality for adding an image

  I'm making a wicket app that can manage some options for a cashdesk app. One of the options is to change the image of a selected Product. The user(manager) can choose from the already present images in the database (SQL) when this option is selected, or add a new image if the desired image is not present. Don't mention the test names and awesome images (it's still in test-fase) I prefer to see the adding of an image achieved by Drag and Drop html5 demo [dnd-upload] (From the desktop into the browser) I'm currently using Wicket-6.2.0 and wicket-dnd 0.5.0 and i can't seem to get this working! All examples I can find are from wicket 2.x or lower. It is possible to use drag and drop in Wicket-6.2, but how do I achieve this? There seems to be some DraggableBehavior in wicket? Any help is welcome! [UPDATE] Upgraded to wicket-dnd 0.6

• DesignMode with Controls

  Has anyone found a useful solution to the DesignMode problem when developing controls? The issue is that if you nest controls then DesignMode only works for the first level. The second and lower levels DesignMode will always return FALSE. The standard hack has been to look at the name of the process that is running and if it is "DevEnv.EXE" then it must be studio thus DesignMode is really TRUE. The problem with that is looking for the ProcessName works its way around through the registry and other strange parts with the end result that the user might not have the required rights to see the process name. In addition this strange route is very slow. So we have had to pile additional hacks to use a singleton and if an error is thrown when asking for the process name then assume that DesignMode is FALSE. A nice clean way to determine DesignMode is in order. Acually getting Microsoft to fix it internally to the framework would be even better!

Now I want to edit the entry. I've been using a generic function: def generic_edit(request, modelname, object_id): modelname = modelname.lower() form_class = form_dict[modelname] return update_object(request, form_class = form_class, object_id = object_id, template_name = 'createdit.html' ) but this pulls in all the info except the many-to-many selections saved to this object. I think I need to do something similar to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1700202/editing-both-sides-of-m2m-in-admin-page, but I haven't figured it out. How do I use the generic update_object to edit the other side of many-to-many link?

• Converting IPv4 or IPv6 address to a long for comparisons

  In order to check if an IPv4 or IPv6 address is within a certain range, I've got code that takes an IPv4 address, turns that into a long, then does that same conversion on the upper/lower bound of the subnet, then checks to see if the long is between those values. • iPhone + alternative to drop downs

  Hello, I am developing native iPhone app. I have one requirement that, there are 5 drop downs in the screen, where user will select each value and based on that there will be a graph generated on screen. Also the drop downs are cascading, meaning that depending on value selected in upper drop down, the values in lower drop downs will change. If it was a web app than, I had no problem as we have drop downs available. But it is a native iPhone app and we don't have drop down in iPhone SDK. Comments = _Model.GetComments(id), }) ....... ..... return Json(jsonData, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } _Model.GetComments(id) will return a ClientComments Object which has a few properties say CommentID, FirstName, MiddleName etc., which will be bound to each row in the grid Now in my jqgrid I need to build a tool tip based on Comments column properties and for that I need to use the properties of my Comments in JQGrid for each row. May I know How I can manipulate Comment's properties for each row? Any help would be appreciated. I tried in my javascript that for each row rowObject.Comments.FirstName and it did not work.

• Calculating Length Based on Sensor Data

  I've got an IR sensor which writes its current information to a token which I then interpret in a C# application. That's all good -- no problems there, heres my code: SetLabelText(tokens [1],label_sensorValue); sensorreading = Int32.Parse(tokens[0]); sensordistance = (mathfunctionhere); Great. So the further away the IR sensor is from an object, the lower the sensor reading (as less light is reflected back and received by the sensor). My problem is in interpreting that length. I can go ahead and get lets say "110" as a value when an object is 5 inches away, and then "70" as a value when an object is 6 inches away. Now I want to be able to calculate the distance of an object using these constants for any length. Any ideas?

  Working on a WPF application, I started working on a custom ControlTemplate. I reached the point where I need to change some control properties when an event occurs. For this purpose, there are Setter elements. Seems all good, but I cannot use them inside EventTrigger elements. For example, if a simple Trigger, that can be bound to control properties, is used then Setter elements can be used inside. However, I do not want to bind to a property change but rather to an event. Is there a way to do this in pure XAML or will I have to work in the code-behind?

• Are frameworks using byte-code generation creating leaky abstractions?

  My point is, if you don't understand the abstraction of a framework, you can still decompile it and understand it, because you know the language e.g. Java. However, when byte-code generation happens, you have to understand even a lower level - JVM level byte-codes. I am really affraid of using any of such frameworks, which are many. Most of the time I think the reason for byte-code generation is simply lack of language features such as metaprogramming. Do you agree? What is your opinion and argument? How do you take over the problem with leaky abstractions in those frameworks?

  Hello, I have a link inside a label. The problem is, when user clicks 'back' after having read the terms, the checkbox is unchecked, because when they clicked on the link they also unchecked the box at the same time, since the link is inside a label. <input type="checkbox" id="terms" name="terms" checked="checked" /> <label for="terms">I agree to be bound by the <a href="/terms">Terms</a></label> How can I prevent the checkbox from being checked when link is clicked? Tried doing event.preventDefault() on label click, but that doesn't prevent checkbox from being checked/unchecked. I could just take out the link from inside a label (which means more CSS styling). But now I'm curious whether the above is possible.

• MATLAB fill area between lines

  I'm trying to do something similar to what's outlined in this post: MATLAB, Filling in the area between two sets of data, lines in one figure but running into a roadblock. I'm trying to shade the area of a graph that represents the mean +/- standard deviation. The variable definitions are a bit complicated but it boils down to this code, and when plotted without shading, I get the screenshot below: x = linspace(0, 100, 101)'; mean = torqueRnormMean(:,1); meanPlusSTD = torqueRnormMean(:,1) + torqueRnormStd(:,1); meanMinusSTD = torqueRnormMean(:,1) - torqueRnormStd(:,1); plot(x, mean, 'k', 'LineWidth', 2) plot(x, meanPlusSTD, 'k--') plot(x, meanMinusSTD, 'k--') But when I try to implement shading just on the lower half of the graph (between mean and meanMinusSTD) by adding the code below, I get a plot that looks like this: fill( [x fliplr(x)], [mean fliplr(meanMinusSTD)], 'y', 'LineStyle','--'); It's obviously not shading the correct area of the graph, and new near-horizontal lines are being created close to 0 that are messing with the shading. Any thoughts? I'm stumped.

  Hey there, I'm trying to avoid the use of the Role Provider and Membership Provider since its way too clumsy in my opinion, and therefore I'm trying to making my own "version" which is less clumsy and more manageable/flexible. Now is my question.. is there an alternative to the Role Provider which is decent? (I know that I can do custom Role provier, membership provider etc.) By more manageable/flexible I mean that I'm limited to use the Roles static class and not implement directly into my service layer which interact with the database context, instead I'm bound to use the Roles static class which has its own database context etc, also the table names is awful.. • How to create Master/Detail view with two datagrids in ColdFusion

  In Coldfusion, I have Master and Detail data that I need to display in two separate cfgrids; like the typical Customers/Orders scenario. My cfgrids are bound to cfc functions which populate the cfgrids. In my current dataset, only one Customer has Orders and when I click on this record in the Master datagrid the Detail datagrid displays the related records. But when I click on a record in the Master datagrid that has no related detail records, the Detail datagrid does not refresh but maintains display of the previous data. Also the search icon within the datagrid's control panel indicates it is searching for values rather than displaying the Refresh icon. Can you please show me how to establish Master and Detail cfgrids where I can see Orders of Customers as I navigate through the Master datagrid? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Maklar

  Consider this code (type names genericised for the purposes of example): // Bound to ListBox.ItemsSource _items = new ObservableCollection<Item>(); // ...Items are added here ... // Specify custom IComparer for this collection view _itemsView = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(_items) ((ListCollectionView)_itemsView).CustomSort = new ItemComparer(); When I set CustomSort, the collection is sorted as I expect. However I require the data to re-sort itself at runtime in response to the changing of the properties on Item. The Item class derives from INotifyPropertyChanged and I know that the property fires correctly as my data template updates the values on screen, only the sorting logic is not being called. I have also tried raising INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged passing an empty string, to see if a generic notification would cause the sorting to be initiated. No bananas. EDIT In response to Kent's suggestion I thought I'd point out that sorting the items using this has the same result, namely that the collection sorts once but does not re-sort as the data changes: _itemsView.SortDescriptions.Add( new SortDescription("PropertyName", ListSortDirection.Ascending));

• ItemsControl that loads items one by one asynchronously.

  Hey Guys, I am creating a custom DataGrid by deriving the traditional tookit based WPF DataGrid. I want a functionality in the grid to load items one by one asynchronously, wherein as soon as ItemsSource is changed i.e. a new collection is Set to the ItemsSource property or the bound collection is Changed dues to items that rae added, moved or removed (wherein the notifications comes to the data grid when the underlying source implements INotifyCollectionChanged such as ObservableCollection). This is because even with virtualising stackpanel underneath the datagrid takes time to load (2-3 seconds delay) to load the data rows when it has several columns and some are template based. With above behavior that delay would "appear" to have reduced giving datagrid a feel that it has the data and is responsive enough to load it. How can I achieve it? Thx Vinit.

  Hey folks, I'm working in Silverlight, trying to figure out how to set a grid cell font color based on the contents of the cell. I have an ObservableCollection bound to a DataGrid, and my items implement INotifyPropertyChanged so the grid updates as I change the values; it's all working perfectly, including letting me sort items and keep the sorting while I update the underlying items. I know I can use the LoadingRow event to change colors, but the only way I can get the event to fire is by changing the grids datasource, in which case my sorting goes out the window. So, what I really want is a way to either 1) loop the rows in the datagrid, find the cell I need, and change it's color or 2) implement a custom column that I can use to dynamically set the color. The problem is how to actually do either of those things :) All suggestions welcome.

• Processes sharing cores on Ubuntu system

  My coworkers and I share an 8-core server running Ubuntu for our batch processes. I tend to run 4 processes at a time, each of which consumes 100% CPU per core when nothing else is running. When a coworker runs his processes (typically about 4 at a time), his also get 100% per. However, when both of us run ours (he always goes first), his still get 100% and mine seem to divide the remaining processing power and linger in the 10-40% range. I even reniced his process to a lower value and it did not change. What are the issues that may cause this?

However any other fields will throw a javascript error. I'm wondering the best way to test to see if datepicker has already been initialized on that field.

  Suppose I have a C(++) function taking an integer, and it is bound to (C)python with python api, so I can call it from python: import c_module c_module.f(10) now, I want to parallelize it. The problem is: how does the GIL work in this case? Suppose I have a queue of numbers to be processed, and some workers (threading.Thread) working in parallel, each of them calling c_module.f(number) where number is taken from a queue. The difference with the usual case, when GIL lock the interpreter, is that now you don't need the interpreter to evaluate c_module.f because it is compiled. So the question is: in this case the processing is really parallel?
